Had a fun, casual lunch date at CHOBOP AYCE Sushi! We went with the Premium menu, and there were so many options to choose from! We started with the seaweed salad and yakitori, which were both tasty and made great appetizers. As nigiri lovers, we were excited to try all the different selections. My favorites were definitely the toro and yellowtail, and the uni was sweet and delicious! One thing I really appreciated was the fish-to-rice ratio. The nigiri had a small amount of rice, so you could really enjoy the fish without feeling too full too quickly. The fresh rolls were also yummy, with a good amount of fish and nicely balanced seasoning. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for good AYCE sushi at a great price. I kept seeing Chobop circulating on social media as this new premium AYCE sushi spot with good quality and fast service, so obviously I eventually had to see for myself. I invited a couple friends and made them come right when they opened so we could properly attack this menu lol. There are different tiers, and we went with **Premium** because that's where you get the nigiri, carpaccio, sashimi and some of the higher-end items. Some premium items like bluefin toro, uni and sweet shrimp are limited to one per person, but there's still A LOT you can order. And we ordered a lot. We tried the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and octopus carpaccios. They were okay across the board. Nothing bad, but none of them really stood out either. The menu can be a little confusing. Some things are ordered through the QR code, miso soup you have to ask for separately, and there are a bunch of rules and different sections to figure out. I did appreciate that some rolls are available as four pieces instead of committing to eight. I'm not a huge roll person anyway, and the rolls were probably one of the weaker parts for me. My nostalgic order is always a Philly roll because I love cream cheese, and there was barely any cream cheese in it. They also use mustard-based sauces on several things, and as someone who HATES mustard... why are we doing this? Where I'd focus next time is the **nigiri and simpler items**. We tried a ton of those along with salmon belly, baked mussels, crispy tuna, udon, miso and more. The salmon belly was way fattier and larger than I expected -- more like an actual grilled belly portion than sushi -- so ordering three was definitely our mistake. We were cutting fat off trying to survive by the end lol. One thing I wish they did better was tell us what they were dropping off. We ordered so much that when plates started coming out, we couldn't always tell what was what. Service itself was attentive, but food came out at an interesting pace. We'd think we were almost done and then suddenly another wave would appear. Afterward I calculated what everything would've cost à la carte, and **we absolutely got our money's worth** with Premium. Would I come back? Probably. I'd order completely differently now that I understand the menu -- less experimenting with all the sauced items and rolls, and more stacking up the nigiri and things I actually liked. We came on a Saturday afternoon and were seated as soon as we arrived. Parking wasn't an issue it's in a plaza. The restaurant was a decent size, with a variety of tables and booths, including a few tables near the bar. Our waitress brought us a menu along with a paper order sheet for the sushi. There were both à la carte and AYCE options, and we chose the AYCE option, which was $38.95 per person on the weekend. For the side dishes, they use a QR code menu. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a five-minute wait between orders, although I believe you can order multiple items at once. Side dishes were just ok. I did feel that the service was on the slower side, especially since the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. It took around 20-30 minutes for our first order to come out. As for the sushi, it was good overall. The fish-to-rice ratio was decent, and I appreciated that they didn't overload the sushi with rice. The portions felt well-balanced, making it easy to enjoy the fish without feeling like I was mostly eating rice. My favorites were probably the uni, yellowtail, and bluefin tuna toro nigiri. I have to say that the food was very average. I came during a time when it wasn't as busy in between lunch and dinner and Service could be a bit slow. David really made a difference and was there for me after a new girl (grace) was training so he assisted and picked up the pace. The Sushi and selections were just OK. I did mostly nigiri. The Sushi wasn't great. It wasn't bad. It was just very average. I had to get them to warm up the eel as I like my ear warmer but once we got on track, it was good. I also enjoyed the salmon. I came here for dinner and there was a small wait before I got seated. They only offer premium ayce for dinner. I ordered different appetizers and nigiri. My favorites was shishito peppers, yellowtail nigiri, and the bluefin tuna toro. The cut for each fish was inconsistent for the nigiris. Some pieces were smaller than the others. Came by Chobop to try out a new AYCE sushi place, since I had heard good things about this place before it became AYCE. We came for a late lunch and were seated promptly. The menu is a QR code, with the same ordering style as X-fish (through phone for non-nigiri items). Nigiri ordering was with pen/paper with some specialty items with limited order quantities per person. The rice ratio was great for AYCE - the smallest nub of rice for a regular slice of fish. There were several options for salmon, which is what I typically come for - including salmon belly, torched, cajun torched, etc. The torched salmon was just a bit over-torched so it was basically half-cooked salmon. Quality of fish was decent, but some flavors or toppings (carpaccio, torched, garlic on edamame, etc) fell short compared to other similar spots. I wanted to update my review since they changed their name and menu. Chobop is a sushi spot that offers and AYCE and al la carte menu. I came in for lunch during the weekday with one other person and we got seated right away. It was busy but not crazy. They ask you right away what type of menu you prefer. For AYCE they had the classic or premium option. The premium had more items such has eel and mussels. We went with their classic. I found their sushi to be of good quality for the price. We enjoyed their salmon and yellowtail nigiri which both tasted fatty. I liked that they had no rice rolls which were all good. I also liked that they came out as 4 rolls instead of the 8 that you normally get. The classic menu also included ramen. We got their spicy ramen which was good but I hated that it had a ridiculous amount of ramen noodles in there. I ate half the noodles and it felt never ending. They even had ice cream at the end (matcha and vanilla). Service was excellent. They kept checking on us. I did hate that they forgot some of our items on our first round. I think you get 3 rounds and you can order through them or mark the paper. The inside is very large and great for small or large groups. Came on a Tuesday at 12:30pm and we were seated almost immediately. First thing we noticed when we sat down was how sticky the table was, and the strong bleach smell. The server immediately came up to us, went over the AYCE options, and we chose the classic one. We were given a piece of paper to order sushi/nigiri/rolls, and appetizers are ordered through a qr code through your phone. We gave our order around 12:40pm, and we received our first appetizer (2pcs of tempura) at 1pm. 15 mins after that we got the rest of our orders. Waiting 35 mins for the first round is diabolic considering there's a 90 min limit for the AYCE. We didn't even order a lot. Our second round, again, took a while to come out so we didn't bother ordering a third round. Fish-to-rice ratio was decent, try the seared salmon nigiri, the Pepper Me Crazy roll, & skip the scallops nigiri (not fresh). Been wanting to try this spot for so long now and came for a dinner with a party of 4. There was a wait and you do have to come in person since it's a paper waitlist. We waited about 30 min. We went for the AYCE which actually had pretty quality fish but I would say the experience is a bit underwhelming. They limit the amount you can order at a time which shouldn't be as much of a problem if the wait wasn't so long between rounds. We would eat our order which all came out on 1 plate and then have to wait a while before placing another due to how busy it would get. Between those rounds we did try to order via the online menu but those also had a wait. We also noticed some pieces would be missing when they came out. I do however want to include that the fish is definitely fresh and high quality. The rice-fish ratio is great and a lot better than you'd expect for AYCE. You have the option to order a la carte or do the "all you can eat". I have previously given them a long detailed review. So, I'm not gonna go deep into it this time. I had made a reservation yesterday as they prefer you do for parties of 8+ We arrived at 11:30am which is the time that they open. There is lots of parking out front. Our table was ready and we were seated right away. We were the first party in the restaurant. The space is nice, modern and casual. The food is amazing. It is always ultra fresh and well presented and the service is excellent. When you opt for "all you can eat", You get 3 rounds of ordering. But we ate so much that we were stuffed and we stopped at round 2. We started with a miso soup. Then we ordered all kinds of appetizers followed by rolls, nigiri, sashimi and so much more. We ended with a tasty matcha ice cream. My favorite items were the shrimp pops, baked mussels, crunchy roll and tuna sashimi. But everything was really good. I Love how their nigiri comes with half of the rice compared to other places. So you get more fish and less rice. Especially when you are doing an all you can eat. It goes a ling way as you don't want to fill up on rice. The all you can eat option is $38.95 per person plus tax and gratuity. The gratuity is automatically added for large parties. The baked and crunchy roll was soggy and cold The fish on top of the fresh roll was dry and tough The soy paper roll felt like it was thawed after being frozen. My boyfriend and I had three rounds of sushi, two rounds of nigiri, and one appetizer. We were extremely full afterwards, so there was no way we could have their ice cream too. Some rolls were better than others. Our favorites were the Costa Mesa roll and the Lucky 7. We weren't crazy about the deep fried rolls. We ordered a little bit of everything but our favorite was the Cajun torched salmon. I also really liked their scallops! They have capped options for toro and carpaccio options. This place was so great and definitely is deserving of a 5 star review. The main reason why I enjoyed this AYCE so much is because there was barely any rice in the sashimi!!! The sushi had very little rice, which I actually liked because it let the fish stand out more. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Chobop! We ordered the premium AYCE menu and I must say, it's a pretty good dupe to X Fish Izakaya. Their nigiris aren't packed with rice and the fish quality was good. The torched salmon belly and scallop nigiris were our favorite and I would say a must order. They were fatty and fresh. My only critique with the nigiris is that the fish pieces came out a bit lukewarm. Their appetizers were mediocre except for the Agedashi tofu and their vegetable tempura. The tofu was bouncy and chewy, pretty good! Service was excellent. Although there was only one worker covering for a bit, we still received our orders quickly and they were as attentive as they could be. As far as I know for the premium AYCE menu, they give a free scoop of choice of matcha or vanilla ice cream at the end of your meal. The restaurant is mid sized and can seat a decent amount of people, though it gets packed during peak dining hours so if you have a larger party, I would recommend coming earlier. Plenty of parking out in front and to the side in a lot with other shared businesses. TLDR: would recommend, nigiris aren't packed with rice and fish quality is good. Appetizers are mediocre. We told her that our premium nigiri from the 1st round hasn't come out. She said she understands, but they are on last call, so that I can order right now. 15 minutes later, half of the order premium nigiri came out with the 2-round order, but we are still missing the second half of the premium. First off, the service was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and prompt. In regard to the food, overall a 3. Got the Premium AYCE. There's a 90 minute time limit with a maximum of 3 rounds. For the first round, there's a limit of 10 pieces for the non- sushi rolls and 16 pieces for the sushi rolls. For the Kitchen Menu items, you'll scan a provided QR code to order. When you eat the sushi, you do get some seafood flavor but you also get a watery flavor while you chew. Also, some of the rice grains were tough. The amount of rice is small but so were the size of the fish. I wanted to take myself out and dine alone for lunch on my birthday, and I chose this place because all the reviews and photos looked really good and people were raving about the premium menu. I got that menu for myself and was expecting high quality cuts like the ones I saw for other people who ordered from the premium menu. I have been to a lot of AYCE sushi restaurants and this one made me feel like I was scammed. Although the fish to rice ratio was good, the quality that was served to me was just did not live up to the reviews at all. When I ordered salmon BELLY, they just brought out normal salmon every single time I ordered it. For the bluefin tuna, mine looked nothing like other people's cuts and tasted really weird. It was hard and salty like it was a piece of smoked tuna. Lastly, I have no idea they served me minced "toro" when all the other people in the reviews who got the premium menu got premium cuts of nigiri. It felt like they were trying to hide that they were serving me fish of lesser quality. I am a really avid sushi eater so I know what is good and what isn't and this experience completely ruined my birthday lunch. I don't know if it's because I dined solo and they thought I didn't know my way around sushi, but as of now I would not recommend this restaurant at all. This is probably the best AYCE sushi spot I've been to in OC. We came on a Friday night at 7PM as party of 2 and were seated right away, but it was a full house.
