Very impressed with Mimi and her assistant Aki's professional and friendly work demeanor. You seriously won't regret sitting at this salon for hours getting your nails pampered and properly manicured. No foreign language smack talking here, HUGE plus! If I had to find a con, it wouldn't be because of the service but rather because of the gel material & process. It takes quite a long time but it's super important to clean and prep the nails properly before the gel is actually painted on. Good to know that even at 9pm, Mimi and Aki do not cut corners and use only sanitary equipment paired with imported Japanese gel and real Swarovski crystals - the good stuff. I have been using yelp for years now yet have never bothered with writting reviews. The fact that I am writting one now should speak for itself. I called Mimi a month back and set up an appointment. I was catching a flight that night and my husband and I were running short on time so i had to call and change my appointment. She was so sweet and very understanding and more than willing to work with me to set up another appointment. When i finally did make it to my appointment i was on time but could not find any street parking. She then called me and told me they had their own parking! What a relief. I'm not the best with directions and ended up somewhere completely different but she was so sweet and helpful she even met me outside and led me directly to the parking structure. When we finally made it inside, mimi was very helpful with helping me pick out a light color as I'm in the military. What amazed me was how comfortable she made me feel while i was in her salon. I love how she cares about her clients as well as their nails. Mimi uses the most natural products in her salon and you can definitely tell she cares about nail care and her clients. She loves eductaing her clients on gel and how acrylic can be damaging to ones nail. She was truly one of the sweetest people I have met thus far. She found out how much I love japanese food and even wrote down a couple of japanese restaurant's to try out (which I did today) and loved. I felt so comfortable in her salon and I didnt feel rushed at all. She took her time with my nails and I really loved that. I felt as though I made a friend in the process. Mimi's professionalism is amazing and her salon is clean, cozy, and very well organized. My nails turned out GREAT and although they were only one simple color, i fell in love with her work the second she finished. Although they are my natural nails, she made them look like something out of a magazine! I can not wait to go back and get them done with a design next time I go on leave. Some people seem to think her prices are over the top, but you have to understand this isnt your typical nail salon. She creates art on your nails, not the traditional french tip or flower designs you find at every other nail salon. She also uses the best products and takes her time with her work. In reality her prices are very reasonable. Mimi's work is amazing; you can tell right away from her pictures. She is the only person i will be going to from now on for a manicure. HI. I am NEVER the person to sit down and type out a review no matter how mad i am, but this woman deserves this. I have never had such a horrible nail experience and i didnt even get to start my appointment today. I went to Mimi about a month ago and although the nails were expensive i liked her designs and her choice of more healthy options. The experience was nice and pleasant so i decided to sign up for her VIP service, BAD IDEA. First off, if you cancell, its a $25 fee and she charges you that if youre 10-15 mins late too. Today i had an appointment to get my old nails off at 11am and showed up 10 mins early. She wasnt even there yet and didnt let me know she was still stuck in traffic and at least 15 mins away. i texted HER because she never answered me from the day before and she said she was stuck in traffic. Which is fine, things happen, but wouldve been nice to know. So i ask if i should go get a drink or wait and she said it would only be another 10 mins so i said id wait. Then she texts and says she still has to set up, so assuming that meant it would be a while longer i asked again if i should wait or if she was going to give me a new appointment time so she said "go get a drink if you want..." So i replied: "Mimi, you let me know what to do since i dont know how long you need" and her response was "come back at 11.30". Okay, so now my appointment is moved. I started to walk away and our conversation turned rude. She called me a 'little girl' and 'a rude client'. I told her she should NEVER speak to a client that way, since im 22 and far from being 'little'. Her 'im above you attitude' was random and uncalled for. So i asked for my money back (the $10 for VIP signup) since i didnt want to deal with her anymore and she said I OWED HER MONEY! This is ridiculous for two reasons: 1. I paid (with tip) $120 to get my gel nails last time. 2. SHE DIDNT DO ANYTHING TODAY. She said she "gave me a 15% discount last time (on $120?? i dont think so lol) and wanted that money that i now 'owe her'. Then she continues with the most insane part. SHE SAID SHE WOULD REPORT ME TO THE POLICE IF I DIDNT GIVE HER MONEY. So i obviously decided my $10 was not worth ever seeing this rude and inconsiderate woman again. SO I PAID $130 for my nails to be done ONCE and i still cant get them off. DO NOT GIVE HER YOUR CARD INFO. I am so thankful i didnt because i KNOW she wouldve taken that 'extra' 15% anyways. This is my favorite place to visit when I come to San Diego. Mimi has created a safe haven for her clients to be themselves. I like to call it the Pink Pussy Palace because it's so feminine and the perfect place for us to be open and to talk about anything. Mimi makes me feel like a celebrity every time I come in. She has a private suite with complimentary drinks and food and I can control what I want to watch and listen to.
