Visited Lulu's for the first time for a traditional pedicure and had a lovely experience. I appreciated that the staff were friendly and welcoming. They took their time, and were gentle and careful. When I have gone to other salons I have felt like the technicians are a little rough, I've been cut a few times and it definitely felt like I was being rushed through the process. Booked an appt. day of. Waited about 10 minutes while they were finishing with another client, not too bad. Small salon but the layout makes it feel spacious. The service itself was wonderful, so much attention to detail. I don't really do my nails anymore due to sports, so my nail beds were kind of wrecked. But they did a great job pampering and bringing them back to life. I chose to do regular polish and french tips on my natural nails. Very tedious if you aren't using gel or acrylics, so kudos to them! I will say that the prices match other salons for less amenities.. For example, the chairs for pedicures are regular/not massage, and the tubs are manually filled via sink and are not jetted. They did offer a heated neck warmer. Overall, convenient location and the care for detail will probably bring me back in. read more

Went here for the first time to get my nails done for my sister's wedding. I got a pedicure and hard gel manicure. The pedicure experience was unique and wonderful, especially the warm towel for the neck- nice touch! Great massage and the polish turned out great. My sister got the deluxe pedicure which included a scrub and she loved it. The star of the show was the manicure! I have not gotten hard gel before and I was so impressed by the attention to detail the nail tech had. Although this service was more expensive I definitely felt it was well worth it. The color selection they had was also extensive! I was amazed at the different gel color options. An amazing experience from start to finish, especially as it was my first time getting my nails done! I came in to get my wedding nails actually, and left feeling so happy with the outcome! - PARKING - Street parking only, but there seems to be a decent amount of spaces around the neighborhood. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Cute little corner shop, inside feels peaceful and calm. They have a front room where the manicures are, and then a back room for all the pedicure treatments. I didn't get to look in the back but seems like everyone was happy! I was seen on time with little delay. - EXPERIENCE - Janeth was my technician, and she was so great!! She took the time to look at the designs I wanted, and let me see different colors on my nails before I finalized my decision. She also made sure to keep checking in to see if I was happy with the nail shape, length, and design. She took great care to my nails, especially since I don't really take that much care of them myself. It was easygoing to talk with her about things, which made time pass fairly quickly. I was afraid of breaking a nail as I workout pretty hard lifting weights, so I opted to avoid any accidents before my wedding. I have been to Lulu's twice now for a pedicure. It's easy to find and definitely has a neighbor type of feel. They have a good color selection, and I like that you can pick the scent for your scrub. I also appreciate their loyalty program. My first time was with Linda, who I felt was great. She was friendly, but also respectful of some quiet time. It was a nice mix of conversation and relaxation. She was very detailed, and my pedicure looked perfect. The second time felt odd. I don't know the name of the woman. I chose to take anyone available, as Linda was booked during the week I wanted. I never got anything telling me who I was assigned to, and when I walked in, she just said, you are the 11:00? (or whatever time my appointment was). She never introduced herself. She seemed annoyed to be there, and when I tried to make a little conversation, she was very short with me. The pedicure was still pretty good. I just didn't feel like my overall experience was good. So far it's been a mixed experience. I have another salon I usually go to, but the woman has been out on medical leave. I will probably give Lulu's one more try since it's been a mixed experience. Bad Vibe Birthday A front desk attendant was so rude that my friend gave back her birthday gift card. The front desk was not very friendly today. Maybe someone was having a bad day? Their manners were boorish. No sign was posted *no walk-ins* or instruction given when the gift card was sold to kindly book online. That would have been fine. We would have done just that. We made the effort to go there in the middle of the week; we will not go out of our way to go there again. I am relieved to read that many others were treated rudely and without regard. I have never seen a business HOSTILE to customers - this one is. Went in and vaguely overheard conversation between nail technician and customer where she said she did not feel well, but I shrugged it off. Then I sat down and the technician told me she had been trying to get over an illness. I really did not appreciate having someone who is trying to get over an illness be assigned to me as a technician. I did hear a cough from the next room right before she said that. I really would've appreciated a phone call before I came to the salon telling me my technician was ill and letting me decide if I wanted to expose myself to illness right before the holiday trip, I am about to leave on. My nail artist was the sweetest - so patient and detailed, and everyone there was extremely welcoming and hospitable. It was truly a high end spa experience! I had another wonderful deluxe pedicure with Maki on Saturday 10/21.  She has been my go-to for over 17 years :)  All the nail techs at Lulu's are skilled at what they do and I constantly sing their praises to anyone looking for a place for nail services. However, having been a regular client for so long, I've seen major downward changes, especially related to the current owner's choice to not rehire a dedicated front desk person.  Her decision has led to a decline in both the appearance of the salon and absence of customer service before and after our services.  This is in no way the fault of the nail techs; as a matter of fact, I see them working extra hard to check in clients, deliver top-notch nail services, check out their clients, and clean/sanitize their equipment then repeat the manic cycle throughout the day. What made Lulu's different and appealing from other nail salons prior to current ownership was the ambiance of the interior and the feeling of being pampered from start to finish. During recent visits to Lulu's, I grew sad noticing how rundown the salon is becoming. It has been months since I've seen any seasonal decor or specials (you would never know Halloween or Fall is here in this salon!), the choices of polishes on the wall are often duplicates and sometimes out of order, and there is visible dust in several locations. Without at least a part-time dedicated desk person who can decorate the salon, keep polishes stocked, and handle overall upkeep (dusting, cleaning the walls, etc.), the lure of choosing this salon above others is lost without their nail techs. I hope this review spurs the owner to reinstate practices and personnel to make the salon a landmark concept again.  I will still come and see Maki every 3 weeks, but she is currently the only reason why I go there. read more

It took me three years of living in San Diego, but I finally found a nail salon I look forward to going to, that isn't a chop shop, and treats my nails meticulously! I wandered in here on a whim on a random weekday afternoon, where I decided I was going to explore South Park. The neighborhood jaunt took me through some well known staples such as lunch at Buona Forchetta, boutiquing at Thread and Seed and Gold Leaf, peeking at Communal Coffee, and perusing books at the Book Catapult. I'm so glad that they were able to add me in for a last minute manicure. That manicure lasted so long, it made it through a week of tough work including surfing!! Indeed they're so popular you definitely have to book in advance. But well worth it! Both manicurists I've had have taken so much care with my cuticles, each using a bright light to examine each digit as they work. I love it. Knew I had to come back for a pedicure which is every bit as luxurious. The salon itself is boutique like with local artists' jewelry and candles for sale, and a few select occasion cards at the checkout counter. Also, their collection of nail colors from Zoya is extensive. I am a HUGE fan. Already looking forward to my next visit. read more

I really wanted to like this place but it was not a good experience. The good. I'm all for the less toxic products and services. The place didn't smell like your typical nail salon where you can smell chemical fumes, that was awesome. One star earned for this. The bad. The technician that did my pedicure was very friendly(another star earned for this), but her skills were lacking. Everything was fine while I was at the salon, it wasn't until after I got back home that I felt like something was wrong with my big toe. I looked at it and it was very inflamed and red. I think she cut too much of the cuticle. I cleaned it up for the next few days, it eventually cleared up. I've never had anything like this happen before. She also didn't clean under my nails properly, I felt a tightness under my big toenails. I cleaned it out, sure enough, there was dead skin under my toenails. So disappointing, not worth going, I regret even going. Would not recommend for a pedicure. read more

If only , I could give it ZERO stars and continue to post this PSA for any curious potential client. Essentially: Don't go here, I saw a good mix of bad and good reviews. But, I decided to give them a chance. Scheduled a gel manicure Yesterday (around 12:50PM) for Today @11:30am. Fast forward to this morning, I woke up feeling ill. I tried my best to call the Boutique and let them know I won't be coming in. In their text confirmation, they don't provide a number to call back incase of any questions or concerns. Just the basics of what service you've scheduled and what time it's scheduled for. I've dialed the number from where I received the message and I was constantly being denied the call. Then I had to Google their number and call at least 2 more times before my call would be picked up. Martha (Manager) picked up my phone call and I tried to explain my situation as to why I'm canceling and she begins to get frustrated and raise her voice at me stating that I need to pay the Less Than 24hr Cancellation Fee. I thought that was absolutely ridiculous. But, luckily I didn't put my card information when booking for the service so they have nothing to charge me on. Their whole booking policy is making sure the client is Symptom Free & there is NOTHING stating the 24hr cancellation fee. Yet, when I'm not symptom free, they scream that they'll still charge you a $20 late cancellation fee. Martha's very vocal temper tantrum has officially ruined the only experience I will get with Lulu's Nail Spa & Boutique. Never coming back here. This reaction was from only canceling an appointment, imagine about speaking with her about other complaints or concerns... P.S. They ask for your home address as well. Don't know why they heck they would need that information anyways? Support other small nail businesses who treat you more humanely. Take care & God Bless you. read more
