I had my rehearsal dinner here because it was a great combination of all the food I love and my husband does as well. It was awful service and my bridesmaid had to basically tell the waitress how to do her job. THe food was awful and was burnt. It's really quite sad and I recommed not going there ever again. We walked in on a Friday afternoon hoping to get some sushi. Turned out to be a bad decision ! It was slow when we walked in, the waitresses were having chit-chat session which is absolutely fine. The waitress who came to our table wanted us to quickly decide on the dish and order. She just wanted to wrap up and go back to her important gossip session. With a 1 year old it takes time to decide on something ! She kept coming back and constantly harassing, at that point, had to snap and had her wait. Talk about a New Years Eve NIGHTMARE!! Went here with 8 of us for a 7:30 pm reservation. After being told numerous times we would be seated in about 5-10 minutes, we were finally seated around 8:40 pm. We were not even seated or situated when the Waiter came over with a serious attitude ... With a rude tone asking what do you want for drinks? This theme continued after we were handed our menu's and not even having a chance to look at them, asked what we wanted. He actually sighed in disgust when we asked for a few minutes to look over the menu. He continued to be rude throughout the service, but we decided we were not going to let him ruin our evening, but the food did that for us. Although the chef was very personal, funny, and great with the kids, the food really was not good at all. I would definitely not recommend this place for a large group on a busy night. My friend and I visited the restaurant on a evening. Although there wasn't a huge crowd or people waiting, our waiter rushed us in to ordering cocktails and appetizers. The spicy tuna roll and fried calamari was excellent. However our entrees that we ordered hibachi style were terrible! Just left there. Kids eat free on Sunday's with purchase of adult meal for each kid. Food was good and waiter was attentive. Downfall was teppanyaki chef. If he was any less interesting he would have been sleeping. He went through the motions cooking our food but nothing more. He got our orders right but that's about the nicest thing I can say about him. We have been to a lot of these restaurants but this has been the most boring. No tossing food, no fun. read more

A few things: 1. Holy Chinese five spice powder, Batman! 2. How do you mess up vegetable soup? 3. Not only did they not serve it with my soup, but when I asked for red pepper for my soup they gave me actual dried chilis, not Shichimi Togarashi. Hint: If you want o make this soup better, add some salt and some sesame oil. Maybe some Mirin as well. (If you want to know what your vegetable udon soup should taste like, go to Zen on Beacon Street in Boston.) 4. Waitress was impatient and inhospitable. I'd go so far as to say she was borderline rude, and she rushed us through our meal despite half the restaurant being empty. (FYI: If you rush me, I will eat slower. One noodle at a time, with long periods of rest in between each bite. Also, you should thank Hibachi dude for your tip - he's the only reason why you got anything at all. Maybe you should try singing, "Yummy yummy".). 5. When diners enter your restaurant and you give them the choice between "Sushi Bar" and "Hibachi," you should really know how to respond when the diner asks you if it is still possible to order sushi if you sit at the Hibachi. It's a natural question to ask, and you should be prepared to answer, "Why yes, if you sit at the Hibachi, you can order anything you want." 6. The dude at the Hibachi was very cool. Who knew I could laugh so many times at someone singing, "Yummy yummy!" A Koreaphile I used to know once told me that Japanese food tastes like Korean food cooked badly. Some of the reviews here are wrong like someone said the waitress questioned her for not leaving tips, well what do you expect? If I was her, I would call you a cheap bum! Ok, I've read some of the reviews about the wait staff....I think there are some that don't look like they want to be there...maybe that's just Japanese custom...who knows. But the food is solid...the sushi is great....my only complaint is the drinks are expensive...even soda. And I swear the glasses keep getting smaller and of course no free refills so your getting charged for every shot of Soda....I went in there once in the summer...parched...I almost spent more on refills than the food. Either get bigger glasses....or at least offer free refills. But other than that complaint everything else is very good here. We've never had an issue with the waitstaff. I haven't been to a Japanese steak house since I lived near charleston, sc. This place was awesome! We came in around dinner time on a Friday night. We were welcomed& seated (with a high chair.) right away. The waitress interacted with my 17 month old, while my husband & I looked over the menu. She was very nice and quite helpful for us. Food was pretty good, in our vegetables we got bean sprouts( not used to getting those with japanese food) I was surprised with the " white sauce" I'm used to having.... It was very was very wasabi-ish flavored. I didn't ask if they have mayonaise based sauce though. The rest of the food was good. The cook was very nice with considering the children's age around the table ( the couple next to us had a daughter that was around 5, She was scared of the fire.) My sons first reaction to a little fire was scared as well. But it was nice that the cook was cool about it. I got steak and shrimp; fried rice; and veggies. My son got chicken and white rice& my husband got chicken; fried rice and veggies. We all left happy. It was a great experience. We will defiantly go again! read more

We made our first trip to Tokyo last night. We came in at about 9:oo and were seated right away by a friendly hostess. We were pleasantly surprised by the lovely warm hand towels as we sat down-great start! We enjoyed a yummy scorpion bowl and a selection of sushi to start our meal. My husband really enjoyed the spicy yellow tail and the crispy rolls. Just as we finished our sushi we were greeted by our hibachi chef who was very smiley and lively! The chef put on a great little show for the table. He made the evening fun and interactive. The other members of my party ordered the fried rice which is also prepared on the hibachi table-even though I didn't order the fried rice the chef kindly offered me a large sample portion at no charge. We all enjoyed our dinners, the steak was tender and juicy, the scallops very fresh and sweet! I ate here earlier tonight for the first time and I must say that for Hibachi, the food was pretty good. I've been to a few other Hibachi places in the area before and incorrectly assumed that I didn't like Hibachi in general, becase it seemed to all taste like a pile of salt. However, my steak and scallops at Tokyo tonight were actually pretty good. The soup and salad were pretty good too. The atmosphere on the other hand was lacking and the restroom was gross and smelly. Would I come back here again and pay full price? Maybe, maybe not; but it was my dad's birthday and he wanted to go there because they give you a free meal on your birthday. Love it here! The food is very fresh and delicious. The cooks are wonderful! They are very polite and talented in cooking. There are some that bring more humor to the table than others, but they all produce quality work. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars from me is because the staff can be forgetful and rude. I've visited a dozen times, and half the time, the staff was rushing us out the door, rushing us as we ordered, or would take 10 minutes to deliver a water. I hope everyone reads this review and stops giving Tokyo Peabody their business. I will never return. My son turned 9 years old yesterday and wanted to celebrate his birthday at Tokyo Peabody with some friends. He picked this place because he likes Hibachi steakhouses and enjoys the dessert and gong at the end that is typical when someone is celebrating a birthday there. I made a reservation 5 days in advance. We went last night; it was me, my wife, my son, and three of his friends. The main meal and chef was just o.k. (not great, but that's not why I'm pissed). After the main meal my son was excited to get dessert, hit the gong, and have us sing him happy birthday. The waitress came over and told us that the meal was over and that she was bringing the bill. I told her that we wanted dessert, to which she replied "There is no dessert, we are too busy". I asked if she was joking and she said "No, we are too busy". (So everyone knows, our meal lasted about 40 minutes and the kids were completely behaved. So it wasn't like we were taking a lot of time or causing any issues.) Tokyo Peabody just wanted to make more money. I looked at the waitress and said "It's my sons birthday, he chose this place so we could end with dessert and sing happy birthday". She then said, "Well maybe the manager will make an exception and bring him ice cream". We asked all the kids what they wanted for dessert and the waitress said "No, only ice cream for the birthday kid". So everyone reading this review is clear, the waitress first denied us dessert because they were busy, and then when we got mad she offered to let my son eat ice cream but the rest of his friends basically would have to sit and watch him. I spoke to the manager and explained the situation. He was of no help at all. We paid the bill and left furious. My sons birthday was supposed to be a great day and they ruined the ending by trying to rush us out and make an extra buck. Went to Tokyo on a Saturday night with a party of 6. We were seated right away at a comfortable table in the back of the restaurant for hibachi. Our server came right over as there was already a few people sitting at our table that had ordered. We ordered sushi to start and took a minute to look at the menu. We ordered and the meal was fantastic, food was cooked to perfection, sushi was yummy and the grill cook that we had was impressive in both skill and personality. Unfortunately we felt VERY rushed. Even though we ordered our sushi first, the sushi, ginger salad, and onion soup all came out at once. It took us the whole time our meal was being prepared to eat all off that and the food was sitting on our plates getting cold while we waited. Either way, it was delicious and we will definitely be back! But just some advice...slow it down! read more

Ok, first off, I do agree that this place has really good sushi. That's why I kept going back despite my better judgment. Otherwise, however, the ambiance is terrible and, in 4 or 5 times dining at this mall dive, my girlfriend and I did not experience friendly service once. The last time we went we arrived at around 10 on a Saturday night. Although they advertise as staying open until 11 on Saturdays, they began loudly cleaning up and rushing us about twenty minutes after we arrived. I never like to show up at closing time and be the last party, but I don't think showing up an hour before closing is unreasonable. After this experience, we vowed never to dine there again. Since the sushi is good, however, we decided to do take-out this past weekend. They couldn't even get that right, messing up our entire order. I'll never go back in any circumstance. Obviously, I don't recommend this place. But if you really, really want to try their sushi, just do take out, unless you don't mind rude service. And double check the bag before you leave. read more

My boyfriend and I came once before to this place and everything was much better than our experience tonight. We are never coming here again. Was hoping to have some good food and fun date night but didn't turn out that way!! I will drive 20-30 min away to have a better experience!! When the chef served us our food from the hibachi grill, I didn't even get a dinner portion!! My boyfriend either. I got four scallops and no rice that we ordered!! The waitress forgot about the rice and asked us if we wanted to take it to go. We were already done eating! Also my boyfriend ordered steak and scallops- got no scallops and a handful of steak!!! We payed almost $45 for what food??? Plus drinks. Ridiculous. Everyone else's plate was full and we left within 30 min or so of getting our food. We ended up getting subs at a friend's local deli because we weren't even full!!! Disgraceful. Service was not near satisfying. I understand places get busy but Customer service is important!!! Nice place, chef was good, and host was friendly. However our waitress Linda was not friendly. I felt rushed to order a drink as she was standing there and staring rather than to come back when I was ready so I just ordered a water. My friend ordered a pina colada and got a strawberry daiquiri and she told the waitress that's not what she ordered and the waitress did not take it back or get her the pina colada.
