This place is the essential post night of drinking establishment that keeps the college kids fed and fat for cheap. The food was surprising decent and the portions weren't what I would expect for the price. When we pulled in there sat 3 police cruisers so if the cops eat there it has to be pretty good. A frequent hangout of mine when I was in college, but have not been to the new location until today. Glad to report that the food is exactly the same. I got my standard country fried ho which is amazing. And the fries are really good and plentiful. If you've never been here it's like eating at a bowling alley grill. The food on our 7/16/20 visit was just fine. No complaints. The order was accurate and flavorful. The service, however, was atrocious. I would give the service zero stars if possible. The order of two sandwiches, a hotdog, two drinks, and onion rings took 45 minutes. That would have been ok, but when we attempted to go order a dessert at the counter, no one waited on us, despite being in plain view and having been acknowledged. I will never return, so I guess it does not matter to me in the end-- we ended up spending our money at DQ-- but be warned that the service leaves a lot to the imagination and that there are far more attentive wait staff at other similar restaurants all over Lexington. read more

I highly recommend the cheese tots. They will change your life. Ok...so this isn't awe-inspiring food (had ya fooled, didn't I?). There's no telling how many times I've been to the Ho since moving to Lexington. It is always a good place to grab some cheap grub. Just keep in mind, it is just that: inexpensive, greasy food. My favorite things to get from Tolly-Ho are the breakfast sandwiches (ham/egg sandwhich) and some fries. And of course a milkshake. Great, thick milkshakes here. Stay away from the burgers. Not very great. And they don't look great by any means. There are enough other good items on the menu, don't rely on the burger. When there is a line to order, you better be prepared to wait. It can get really slow at certain times. Especially around midnight. This is also when it gets noisy. Really noisy. Servers yell the names even louder than usual. Never a pleasant sound when you want to eat. So don't go here if you are looking for peace and quiet. They aren't rude, just loud. In fact, the staff is quite friendly. I'll probably keep going to Tolly-Ho for a long time. The prices can't be beat. The food is tasty. Free wifi is always a perk. I just won't go at the busy hours. read more

This place has so much potential but the service is ABYSMAL. They have always been extremely slow even before COVID-19. I ordered ahead in drive thru 15-20 mins beforehand and I still had to wait an additional 30 MINUTES for my food. the food is pretty good. the cheese fries are a must, and the burgers are pretty good too. they also have really good breakfast sandwiches. there are two reasons i'm only giving a 3 star review. one of them being the location. it's super close to campus (perfect for students) but being that close to downtown attracts a lot of homeless people. last time i went in to eat a homeless man came in and was soliciting from people in the restaurant and when he was asked to leave it got pretty confrontational. the other reason is no matter what time you go, you are gonna wait at least 20 minutes for your food. i placed an online order for pick up and still waited 45 minutes once i was at the restaurant and it was after 2am. read more

I usually like Tolly Ho, but the last 2 times i went there on a weekday night when it wasnt even busy, the cashier was so rude. First she charged us for "joes" order, which wasnt us, and then said "i asked if you were joe." Nooo you didnt because we were paying attention the whole time... she sighs at us and charges us instead for our actual order. She didnt have my ale 8 out so i simply told her "oh i had an ale 8 too" and she goes "hold on girl dont rush me, calm down" Like I get that were around the same age and you can relate to me and stuff but dont talk to me like that. My last visit here! Rude rude rude!! They are slow, cleaned a milk shake machine and wiped walls while we waited for them to take our order! Finally took our order, interrupted me three times while I tried to tell him my order. I asked for my beer after she was asked by coworker, she said get it yourself. I waited and waited for my beer while she texted someone three times. I still don't have my beer, so I went and sat down. Still waiting. Thought we would try something different while in Lexington for breakfast, but this was not the place to go. Everything came out cold. Toast was basically bread slightly warmed to dry it out, but not actually toasted or warm. The butter put in it wasn't even melting. Tolly-Ho has some of the best burgers in lexington. Last time I visited I decided to go for the chicken tender basket and was very disappointed. It was so bland, and they give one tiny cup of bbq to eat with your chicken, and additional tiny cups will set you back 50 cents a piece. Lotsa whining on here. Look...the food is simple and cheap. It's also UK's staple for drunken eating and pinball. I loved the place back then and still love it today. It's really more a place to visit for UK alum or current students. People in Lexington have become toads on some of these food reviews. I give it 5 stars because of the nostalgia and cheap eats & beer. I appreciate that they kept prices as low as they did back then too. Definately a right of passage if you are UK student. However, I honestly only found the food here appealing as an unexperienced freshman new to the area. The employees are friendly and helpful, and if you go during the day the atmosphere is very relaxed. Despite the wide variety of the menu, I have never been completely satisfied with a meal here. Everything tastes overly greasy. I can see how this would appeal to the 2 am crowd, but not anyone else. They are open 24 hours and they get incredibly crowded after midnight with the drunk crowds, so if you go late at night, expect it to be loud and rowdy. I would probably only recommend this place for someone who has been hitting the bars all night, and even in that case, the bars probably have better quality food. read more

What can I say? Tolly-Ho is a great option when you're looking for some comfort food. I personally recommend the grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, and the chili cheese fries. The combination is out of this world. Although the place is great when you're needing some comfort food or drunk, it's less satisfying when you're sober due to the lack of healthy options. I went for breakfast after a night shift and tried an omelet, which was enormous and done tri-fold french style with toast and an excellent cup of coffee. Tolly Ho is a 24 hour institution, a rare and valuable gathering space Lexington. Between midnight and 4am, the drunks, nightowls, and third shift workers flow in for cheese fries and more beer. In the morning respectable families and old folks come in for breakfast. During the day, communities settle in: Donkey Kong and Pinball players, discussion groups, work meetings, grad students, folks who just need somewhere to sit hours after their burgers and fries are through. In the evening, depending on the day, other peculiar communities of interest arrive to eat and do their thing. On Mondays, a little professional wrestling community assembles in the backroom. Why does all this happen in such a humble place? I think it's the cheap, delicious food, the simplicity, segmentation, and flexibility of the dining space, and a unique culture that takes root oer the course of 40 years. All my friends that went to UK in the 90's used to tell me about this magical place that was open 24 hours a day and was basically THE place to go for their late night drunken stupor antics. When we were passing through Lexington, I looked it up and was excited to see that it was still there. Funny ordering system: order, sit, go back up, and then pay. The food was hot and fresh.
