I just realized that I have never written a review of this place! It great! The food is amazing and just as good as you would expect from a top tier steakhouse. The atmosphere is beautiful and somewhat eccentric as is the owner. The steak is obviously the star of the star of the show but the Blue Crab Bisque was excellent and I really want that again. I loved the seasoned oyster crackers. I enjoyed the Lobster Thermidor as well but I probably won't get it again. There are other dishes that I like better. Man where to start - this could take awhile. Booked a reservation here for 8:30 on Friday night. In searching for steakhouses in KY, this one came up several times and boasted being a top 100 American steakhouses etc. We parked across the street and walked in, quickly sat and addressed by the waiter's helper - young guy who was obviously faded. Do you I don't care. Taller waiter in the sport jacket and a little shaggier hair. Ordered the crab bisque to start, along with the table bread. The soup was very good - in a bowl too a large portion but the flavor was very very good. I ordered an old fashioned and an iced tea and they never came out. When waiter asked what he could get for us I mentioned the drinks. Then he brought them out. For my entree I went with the barrel filet (12oz) and ordered it medium. My bud ordered the petit filet medium. My steak came out more medium well, in parts well, and hers came out medium rare, in some places rare. So the waiter come back and she points out it's under cooked and he skeptically furrows his brow and cocks his head and says uh let me show the manager. Comes back and says "the manager confirmed it's undercooked." So let me get this straight - we need to throw a challenge flag to the manager to confirm a customer's dissatisfaction ? Had he said no that's medium I would have pointed to mine and said okay how about this one? Manager comes over - very nice and apologizes. If you have STEAK in your name - you better cook it properly. They sent it back and recooked it - still came out pink so hell with it. (Apologies I forgot to take a picture of the steaks I was flustered and angered) Along with our Jekyll and Hyde steaks we added the Mac and cheese and Brussel sprouts. They were fine. I asked the waiter asst for sweetener packets - then watched him do a little bit of everything before returning for something else and I had to remind him. I got the carrot cake for dessert which was very good - and I had to take half of it boxed up for later. Then the check comes, and waiter says the desserts and non-alcoholic drinks are free due to the issues. I provide card and the waiter comes back with his furrowed brow and cocked head saying my card didn't go thru. The card I use-- never declines. Ever. I ask him to try again, which he does on another computer and VOILA! it works. To add further upset, this man CIRCLES THE ORIGINAL TOTAL TO MAKE SURE I KNOW WHAT IT WAS TO TIP HIM OFF THAT ---- Like I'm 23 and have never been to a nice place like this? The bill was $329 and he thinks what? I'm going to stiff him on the tip? Crazy work. Two stars only bc the dessert and soup was good and the manager was a nice guy. read more

My server Mason was absolutely wonderful! We had a party of 10 celebrating my daughter's graduation and from the moment we walked in the door we were well taken care of. The service was impeccable, the music - while a bit loud, was so good! We sat in the covered patio area, and our party was given menu's with congratulating my daughter by name (we kept a few as memorabilia). Appetizers were raw oysters, meatballs, Million Dollar Bacon, and some I can't remember but they were all delicious. We ordered several cuts of steak and all I heard from my party was how perfectly cooked they were! One person ordered sushi, and another orders the surf and turf and had a huge lobster! I had the petite filet which was cooked to perfection. The crust was too salty for my taste but it was cooked so well I didn't care! We ordered shareable asparagus, mushroom, Brussel sprouts, Parmesan fries, macaroni and cheese, and one or two other sides. The sauce for the Brussels was delicious - I wish they were sliced then fried instead of whole but they were good. The asparagus was superb. The mushrooms were good too. They even brought my grad a congratulations cupcake as a surprise! They boxed up our food, and we each got a reusable tote to go! Will be back again for sure. read more

All I can say is wow. Jeff Ruby's knocked it out of the park for a special celebration. The service was like no other- we had a fun young waiter lean into our shenanigans to create a super and memorable fun night for us. The petite filet was cooked to perfection- paired with the horseradish cream crown, it melts in your mouth. Each appetizer and side were noteworthy, but I highly recommend the Wagyu Meatball. We thoroughly enjoyed the band inside, especially from the patio, since it let us hear each other while still getting the ambient music. read more

Wow! I cannot say enough positive things about this place. From the entrance, to the searing, to the bar area with live music. They really thought about everything. The service was attentive and knowledgeable. I went in on a whim for an espresso martini and the burger. The espresso martini was one of the best I've had in a while. So if that's your thing, get it! I also tried the watermelon mint margarita which was very refreshing, but again the martini stole the show. The burger was very good paired with fries. I'm not sure what kind of Mayo comes with it, but I literally dipped my fries in it. Both of my friends had the steak which was so soft and tasteful. The Mac n cheese and asparagus were also very good. Lastly, we shared the chocolate espresso cake and it was amazing. The slice was so big we shared it among 4 people! We arrived on a Saturday night with reservations. Expensive but worth it. Beautiful decor with multiple chandeliers and really old French posters in the room we were in. The sourdough bread and the truffle butter was unexpectedly good. The Crab Rangoon sushi roll was our appetizer, on the side a spicy chili sauce, with a Soy sauce and an option to mix with Wasabi and a ginger finish. Crazy good. I had the Petite Filet with a Bearnaise sauce and a jelly bacon jam on the side. I like sauce options so both are highly recommended. We ordered the Mac and Cheese and Mushroom side and along with Asparagus side all excellent. We topped it off with a Crème Brûlée all excellent. My wife and I visited Jeff Ruby's for our 35th wedding anniversary. It was an excellent choice for our celebration. The valets were quick and attentive and so was the hostess. We were seated after a short wait and the server promptly arrived with menus that said happy 35th anniversary. Nice touch. We started with shrimp cocktail and oysters which were excellent. She had the 8 ounce fillet and declared it to be awesome. I had the 14 ounce NY strip and it was one of the best steaks that I have ever had in my life. We each had a small salad and then we split the creamed spinach and a baked potato which was huge. The sides were fantastic. Our drinks were fabulous as well. Service was outstanding throughout the evening. The restaurant itself had hints of art deco and old French posters on the walls. Lots of crystal and drapery along the walls and a massive chandelier in the center of the room. All in all, it was an awesome experience and worth the hefty price tag. We will be back. read more

If we could give our experience 6 stars we would. Made reservations couple weeks prior to Opening Day at Keeneland and was able to secure 8:15 Table for two. We were celebrating a big birthday, so decided to go Big. We were seated at a nice table opposite the bar where live band was performing. Sushi was good / not great but drinks were the star of the early dinner. Shelby, Dalen and Bennett were all super friendly and attentive and very accommodating. We both had filets with sautéed mushrooms, asparagus and loaded baked potatoes. Melt in your mouth goodness, the photos do not do the proteins justice. After dinner we were escorted to a waiting high top to catch the last set of the house band. All this made for a memorable dining experience; this will be part of our regular rotation when visiting Lexington. read more

For our 42nd anniversary my wife and I wanted to do something extra special to celebrate. We decided to go to Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse in Downtown Lexington. We both were aware of the reputation of the place- we've heard rave reviews from our friends in the past. So we placed reservations for 6:30 on a Wednesday night. The experience was amazing from the time we arrived until the time we left. The valet at the door greeted us and even asked if we were there for a special occasion. We said yes and he congratulated us and even took our photo in front of the restaurant. We were seated immediately in the dining room which was very ornate and beautiful. We were welcomed by Jayden, our servers assistant. He was personable and provided some recommendations for menu items he liked best. Throughout the evening he was on point with whatever the table required. Cleaning off unnecessary dishes, raking crumbs from the linen tablecloth or filling our water glasses. Our server was Aiden ( yes, Jayden and Aiden) and she was fabulous. She informed us about menu items, made helpful suggestions and answered any questions we had. She and Jayden both asked if we had been to Jeff Ruby's before and if we were celebrating anything. They were extremely gracious and made our evening special. The food is wonderful, the selections range from awesome seafood to Choice beef steaks. Of course there are many amazing appetizers and salads too but we ordered the NY strip steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and a very delicious macaroni and cheese. Sides are served family style so you can share with others in your party. Yes, it is expensive, but well worth the price. We both had the best steaks we have ever had and the experience left us planning to return for our next special occasion. The entire experience. WOW. We stopped in late at 10 PM on a Saturday night after a concert. Jeff Ruby had a swing band that was absolutely out of this world on the large piano at the center bar. We chose to sit at the high top in the bar area and the service was excellent. We tried the crab Rangoon sushi, the potatoes Anna, a philosophic roll, the glazed pork belly and had the bread with mushroom butter. Each item had rich flavor and portions were shareable. This made you reminisce about an old speak easy. The atmosphere was fun, people were dressed up. I plan to schedule anniversary dinner here for a special event again. read more

The asparagus didn't have much flavor, the fries were so salty couldn't really eat them, and the Brussels were delicious, favorite item we had. We played a game with Sophie of name that artist with the piano player as she would pass through the evening. She and her server helper were awesome. This might be a hot take, but Jeff Ruby's just didn't live up to the hype for me. Don't get me wrong--it wasn't bad by any means. Service was quick and reliable, food came out in a timely manner, and our needs were met. But for all the buzz, glitz, and glam that surrounds this place, I expected something extraordinary. What I got was... fine. Nothing here blew me away, and honestly, I've had similar experiences at Applebee's or Longhorn Steakhouse for a fraction of the price. (Or dare I say Carson's, Tony's or Distilled for better experiences and tastes that are more cost effective). Let's start with the positives. The ambiance was gorgeous. The place is beautifully decorated, impeccably clean, and the live music added a nice touch. We started with a guy playing the piano during dinner, which was lovely, and then Honeychild (a fantastic local band) kicked in. Their casual attire did feel a little out of sync with the rest of the "fine dining" vibe, but it wasn't a dealbreaker--just an observation. The food, though? Big portions, sure, but the price-to-flavor ratio didn't add up. My wife and I love sharing plates to try a bit of everything, so we gave a lot of items a go: - The Father and the Pope Sushi Roll: Good, but wouldn't be my "go-to" if i came here often. - Crispy Pork Wings: Probably the smallest portion sized item we had, but also the best thing we had, but at $26 for four pieces? I'd rather grab the Sweet & Spicy Rib Entree that comes with one side and a salad from Carson's for $30. - Freddie Salad: It's LITERALLY just a BHG's Lexingtonian Salad. - French Onion Soup: I've had better cups from TGI Fridays. - Lobster Gnocchi: Should be renamed "Pork Belly" Gnocchi--not much lobster. - Brussel Sprouts: A highlight! Probably some of the best in town. Oddly enough, the cocktails were the stars of the night. We tried the Chenin Blanc, Ruby Slipper and Off the Vine, all of which were well-priced and VERY delicious. The most personable and memorable interaction? That would be Dalen (apologies if I'm spelling your name wrong--"Day-Lin"). He wasn't even our server, but he stood out for being friendly and attentive in a way that elevated the experience. Would I go back? Probably not. Would I suggest it to others? Not really. For the price and the reputation, I expected something more memorable, but it was just... okay. If you love glitzy, over-the-top steakhouses, maybe it's for you. As for me, I'll stick to places that focus less on the glam and more on the wow factor when it comes to food. read more

Ventured out on a Thursday night to show downtown Lexington off to our guests and were able to get in at Ruby's. The whole restaurant gives luxury--especially nestled between two hotels with valet, velvet-like seating and chandeliers! We had a fantastic experience--every single thing we ordered was a good portion and very good. The kitchen took a while but it was a busy night. I enjoyed my lamb chops and the shared sides of Brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and fingerling potatoes. Everyone else got steaks and salmon that were also good. We finished with The Wildcat Cake which is MASSIVE but I wasn't the biggest fan of the texture--reminded me of a blueberry muffin rather than cake. Otherwise, a lovely experience for $400. First time to visit Jeff Ruby's definitely will not be our last. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and thought we would try Jeff Ruby's to celebrate. From the moment that we walk in you could tell this place was special. Once we arrived we were seated within 5 minutes. The atmosphere was incredible, with the pianist playing softly as soon as you walk in to the welcoming atmosphere in the dining room. Once we were seated we were immediately served with water and bread. Our waiter (Kazmen) arrived shortly after. He asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and we shared that it was our anniversary and our first time to Jeff Ruby's. He shared the entire menu with us from memory, very impressed, made several recommendations. We started off with a couple of cocktails, an old fashioned and watermelon mint margarita, both were excellent. For the appetizer we had the Ruby roll, excellent recommendation from Kazmen. I had the 12oz barrel cut filet and my wife 8oz. The steaks were two of the best ever, very tender with great sear and flavor. For our sides we went with the mashed potatoes and Brussels, both were excellent. The food was phenomenal as well as the service! Kazmen did an excellent job! Midway through the meal the manager (John) came by and wished us a happy anniversary and ask how everything was. The attention to detail in everything is truly amazing! Long weekend in Lexington to visit the Bourbon trail. Lucky us, it also happened to be ScareFest weekend which gave us a lot to look at around town! We were staying at the Marriott downtown and had trouble locking down dinner reservations along the way, but this magical place opened up and we grabbed it. The best part is that it is literally next door to the hotel. The next best part is that it has a really fun interior centered around Jeff Rubys awards with a horse racing theme and a giant grand piano on a stage in the bar area. It's very very loud inside, we chose (well not by choice, it's all they had) an outdoor table but it was cool so they had the tent over it with the most unnecessary powerful heaters made by man. We immediately asked to move and the table next to us had done the same so they just turned them off, hooray for customer service. The number of waiters in the restaurant is boggling. I wasn't entirely sure the whole time who was my actual waiter but I think that might have impacted our experience a bit. We had to ask for lots of things (like forks and spoons), but we survived. They had a good (and pricey) wine list and a great selection of drinks! The big let down for us was the lack of sushi. The website says there is a celebrated sushi chef onsite and the special selections looked so good, I know it's weird to expect this at a steakhouse but we actually got excited, but when we arrived we were told they "don't do sushi really on the weekends".., what? So we sadly pivoted. I ordered the kale salad, thankfully one of our waiters told me I just want half not whole and when it arrived even half was huge. It was good but it felt like it was missing the dressing. I had the lobster tail for my main, it was delicious, I had creamed spinach on the side which was good but so over the top rich, I only had a few bites. Overall, it was a fun experience, I would like a do over. Hopefully when the sushi chef is back. read more

I have been to this location many times for several special occasions, but unfortunately I've noticed a decline in the food quality lately. The atmosphere and service keeps the 3 stars, but after sending back two steaks on my last two visits, I just cannot recommend them as I had previously. If you want a great steak, may need to try elsewhere. If you want to enjoy some live music and a couple of drinks at the bar, then it's still a great option. read more

We ordered a few apps for the table and a variety of sides to share with everyone's individual entrees (they are large portions). The managers Molly & Zack & the service at the Lexington location of Jeff Ruby's was exceptional. We could not get a reservation after a week of trying. Traveled from out of state for the Bocelli concert at the Rupp Arena. Walked on and was seated at the elegant half circle bar. Amelia the bar tender served us dinner and drinks & the rest of the full capacity seated guests at the bar. Her professional, calm, collected soft foot print through the stress of the busy hours was impressive. The food was exceptional - the sour dough bread, mushroom truffle butter, perfectly prepared sea bass & salmon to elegant chocolate cake - piece of the rock from Gibraltar, large tall portion.
