Had my first Tolly-Ho in 1975 when I lived across the street in Holmes Hall (now demolished) It is almost completely digested now so I will be driving back to Lexington to get another I can't say Anything about today's food or service though from the posted photos and comments it hasn't changed. I'm not sure of the first time I visited the Ho. I'm sure that it was one very late night after roaming the campus during my freshman year as I lived within a stones throw at Holmes Hall. How many times I was there? I can't remember that fact either. What I do remember is that it's a true Lexington tradition and rightfully so. The 24 hour greasy spoon is a much better place to do some people watching than studying. On a typical Friday / Saturday / Thursday night you are likely to see any Lexingtonian than you would anywhere else in the Man O' War circle. Know what you want when it's your time to order so that you don't keep the line (which may be rowdy) waiting. It's pretty easy to just go w/ a Ho Burger and call it a day. The Ho Burger is a large patty grilled on a flat grill, served atop a large sesame seed bun with whatever toppings you desire. I like the Jalapeno's that actually provide a kick, unlike many other restaurant's pepper burgers. If burgers aren't your thing, 24 hour breakfast very well may be. Great omelettes and beer at 2AM with 250 of your closest friends, nothing better. Feel free to give them a fake name so that when they yell out your alias everyone can chuckle. Towards the rear of the counter they still operate the Ho' Store selling anything from shirts to blunt wraps. Funny to see how they still sell cigarettes, even though you can't smoke here anymore (it used to be smokier than any bar). All in all the Ho is not a dietitians best friend, but it very well could be yours. read more

They have a menu you'd find in any other diner with food as greasy as you'd expect. It's everything one could desire at 3a.m. on a saturday night. My son and I stopped in before a ball game. It was not crowded at the time. Staff was very friendly. Diner type food. I had the roast beef. It was best roast beef sandwich I have had. It was unique in that it was served with cheese and BBQ sauce. Onion Rings and fries were cooked perfect. They also have a little section behind counter which they sell OTC pharmaceuticals. Came in handy because I needed an Advil. Anyway I would recommend going here. We were there before peak crowd and were served in minutes. It was good experience. read more

Tolly Ho falls within the category of diners and I would rate it slightly above average. I've had a couple different types of their burgers, their chicken fillet sandwich and the cheesy tater tots. None were disappointing, which is good, because I've been to several places not too disimilar from Tolly Ho which have been disappointing. Judging from the other reviews a common complaint seems to be an inordinately long wait time in filling orders, some claiming to have waited close to an hour. If that had truly been the case, those customers shouldn't have been charged. I myself don't recall ever having to wait over 20 minutes or so, which I can live with. If you're in a big hurry, don't go there. I'd feel comfortable ordering just about anything on the menu. read more

Tolly Ho is a Lexington institution. Open all night, you may encounter a large number of college students, the occassional homeless person, a drag queen every so often, and a steady lunch crowd of UK workers. After decades at the corner of Limestone and Euclid Avenue, they moved a few years ago to a former dry cleaners on Broadway. The food is the same in a bigger, cleaner restaurant. Tolly Ho is where you go for a greasy hamburger with cheese and bacon fries. There are better burgers than the somewhat thin Ho-burger patty, but they are surprisingly tasty. The milk shakes are more like soft serve ice cream in a glass. Admittedly, I think the burgers at SmashBurger, 5 Guys, etc. are much better, but Tolly Ho is a special treat and tradition. read more

Awful in every way. Avoid at all costs. Rude staff who ignored everyone for at least ten minutes while they chatted and cleaned a machine together while a line piled up waiting to order. Food is hot, other than that there's not much good to say. Greasy, bland burger, what looked like crinkle cut frozen oven fries and the same rude help screaming people's names to get their order. First of all, GREAT burger. Even without the 3$ price tag. I get it every time I'm back home. I would've rated this place 5 stars based on all previous visits, but this time, after unordered the burger, the girl at the counter asked " do you want pepper jack, cheddar, or Swiss on that?" I asked since when did their burgers come with cheese? She said they don't, it's 1$ per slice extra, which would've been fine had she not asked me in a manner that indicated it was extra. The weird grab for an extra dollar left a weird taste in my mouth so I'm docking two stars. If they're short on money, they should just raise the prices a bit. I'd gladly pay 5,6$ for a burger like that. Don't need to trick the customers for an extra dollar. Maybe it was just the way the waitress worded it, but still a bit irked. The burger is definitely worthwhile, although be a bit wary in answering questions about extra options from the waitstaff. read more

This place does not offer overpriced hipster food where French toast is made with a bourbon sauce and fancy bread. And the patrons here don't go glassy-eyed whenever the word organic is mentioned. There is nothing organic about Tolly-Ho. This is authentic, good old fashioned, you-get-what-you-pay-for diner food. Where else can you go at 2:00 am and get perfectly greasy diner food, '80s arcade games, pinball machines, jukebox, and clean bathrooms? When you enter The Ho (as it is known to locals) you order at the counter. The lines can back up during high traffic times (like at the end of a UK game) but the staff works hard and the line moves fast. The menu is large so if it's your first time there, be prepared to take a few moments to gaze at all they have to offer. They are best known for things like the Ho burgers that include the Tolly-Ho, the Super-Ho, the Mega-Ho and the "big mac" like Big Tolly. Imagine walking up to the counter and ordering a Mega-Ho, fully dressed. A few years ago USA Today rated Tolly-Ho burgers as some of the best in the state. Why are the burgers so good? Well for starters they buy the meat fresh, every day, and it's never frozen. Then they top them with traditional ingredients. You do have a choice of cheeses and they will add anything they have in stock upon request. Want an egg, mushrooms and a little pancake syrup on your burger? Just ask! Tolly-Ho is also well known for its cheesy tots. Want to kick them up a notch? Just ask for chili and bacon. The Ho also has sandwiches, side items, drinks, desserts, milkshakes, and breakfast is served 24 hours a day. Make sure you read the wall board which covers the Ho-Rules and don't forget to stop by the Ho-Mart counter where you can get items like cigarettes, candy, and a handful of pharmacy items including things you may need after a long night of partying. There is no social order at Tolly-Ho, everyone who walks in is treated as part of the Ho family. Once you become a regular, you have entered a coveted position as one of the Ho's. Was in Lexington for a doctor's appointment with my husband this morning and looking forward to eating at "the Ho" again. We have always loved going there when we had a chance since I work near by but live two counties away and hardly ever get to eat a breakfast with my husband in Lexington. So out of all the places we could have picked today, we chose Tally-Ho with a big smile on our face. We walked in the door and Neil Diamond was playing on the speaker, A+. Had one person in front of us ordering and not really crowded so A+. A new person was being trained at the register so we were being patient as the employee was showing her how to take our order.Two very pleasant young ladies. At the same time another employee begins talking loudly to the new girl asking her name, wiping the counter down while "wobbling" and slurring his words. She politely answers him so he will continue on doing what he was doing and she can continue taking our order. He then continues to talk very loud about how the owner of the place lives in North Carolina and watches the employees on his phone and has to see everyone working all the time or he will text you so he always keeps a bag, rag, or broom in his hand so it looks like he is working. My husband and I go sit down and wait for our name to be called. We watch as this employee is stumbling around, clearly "medicated" or intoxicated, and begins to empty the garbage with gloves on. Then with those same gloves he takes our plates of food and transfers them from the window over to the tray, spilling the food on to the trays. He begins hollering the name on the ticket that is nowhere close to the simple name on the ticket "TROY", he is yelling "Dwall". He does not offer our drinks, I have to go back and ask for them. He then takes his gloves off and fills our drinks. He is pouring more out on the floor as he is wobbling back over to the counter and does not bother to use a napkin to clean up the cups or around them on the counter. I grab napkins and clean up the mess. We begin eating the food which is ALWAYS great! A+. The same employee is talking loudly to all the guests coming in about nonsense and stumbling everywhere. Another kitchen employee has to come out and assist him to place food on the trays because it is clear this employee is going to drop the food on the floor at some point. While all this is going on, we here a female employee yell out from the back, "SOMEONE JUST SHAVED ALL OF THEIR PUBIC HAIR IN THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM AND JUST LEFT IT THERE!" Well at that point my husband and I had enough. We left whatever was on our plates and headed for the door. As we walked out, we turned to look at each other and said "THE LAST TIME FOR THIS PLACE" It is a shame because it was always a place we loved. It has fell victim to having a shallow pool of people to hire, as most restaurants have now, because those two employees would have been fired on the spot when I was working as a server years ago. read more

I have been eating Tolly ho for several years. It's a great place to get a nice juicy hamburger and fries. However, the way they run things is a little weird . When you order your food, they write down your order, prepare the food, THEN they make you pay for it. I've seen people where they order food, and when it's time to pay for it, either their credit card doesn't go through, or they don' t have enough money, or some lame excuse. I haven't eaten Tolly Ho recently, because the past few times I have eaten there, I have gotten a tad sick. But since the food is so good, I've actually still eaten there, knowing that there's a chance I might get sick. Regardless, it's delicious, and I will continue to eat there. read more

I'm a courier and often wait up to 45min for orders regardless of size. Keep in mind this is after driving 15-20min to get there and waiting 10-15 min before I'm acknowledged and given them the order name and the service I'm driving for. This restaurant consistently fails to begin making anything until I've been there for at least 20min after they finally acknowledge me. Then when they realize they haven't started anything yet they blame me. If you order delivery from Tolly Ho, be prepared to wait 1.5hrs or more regardless of the time of day or size of your order. Your delivery orders from this restaurant may be further delayed because most drivers avoid them altogether once they realize that this is standard practice for this store. To the staff at Tolly Ho, it is your job to make the food. Delivery drivers's jobs are to pick up food and deliver it to customers. We cannot make the food for you, you need to handle that on your own. We are independent contractors and I personally run multiple delivery services so I *always* announce which service I'm picking up for. The fact that this happens consistently over 15 months of delivery driving across multiple platforms means that none of your excuses for blaming the drivers are valid. Make. The. Food. I should start by saying it was the cheddar tots that tipped the scales on deciding where to go for lunch in this unfamiliar town. The reviews of them sounded really promising. I have to say I was a little disappointed in the tots, but only if you get them plain. One of our party ordered them "Epic," with chili, bacon, cheese and jalapeños, and they were much better. I had the Philly steak sandwich, which was almost twice as much as the other items on the menu. There was lots of cheese, peppers, etc., but not quite enough steak to make this a winner. Plus, the "Ho sauce" may have been a bit much on this sandwich. It was too thick and messy to put together and pick up, so I knife-and-forked it. Not bad, but not the best. My partner had a Super Ho, with bacon, and it was a much better choice. Exactly the kind of burger I like. He also had crinkle-cut fries with cheese sauce and bacon. It was clear I'd chosen the wrong path with the Philly and the tots, and I ended up eating half of those for him. Two of our group also ordered Nutella shakes, which were thicker than a Blizzard--spoon standing straight up thick--and both said it was excellent. The service was friendly and efficient, and frankly, for what is apparently a late-night hangout, the place was spotless. Unlike another Yelper, I was not at all put off by the "no weapons" sign, and it may even be one of the reasons I'm goosing my rating. I can't give a rating just because I made bad choices. Five star dive, a staple of University of KY campus. Great burgers and breakfast items. Skipped a class or two during my time at school to eat here. Love the burgers and sandwiches and i occasionally go down for breakfast. Their omelets (especially the mushroom and cheese) are wonderful. They are a rolled omelet, much like a french omelet. The downside is that parking is problematic and late at night you are going to have to deal with drunk college students. Overall, the food is just great. read more

When my coworkers and I found out that this place delivers until midnight...game changer! It's diner food delivered, comfort food at our beckon, what more could we ask for? First night we ordered from here, I shared a banana milk shake and had a few bites of my friend's banana pancakes. The milkshake was so good and so were the pancakes. Fluffy and moist. I also had their fudge brownie sundae, the brownie was rich and topping it with ice cream and whipped topping made it even richer-my lesson:share it with a friend. The next time we ordered, I caved in and got a chili cheese dog with onions and fried mushrooms (which is now my favorite menu item) with horse radish sauce. The hotdog was a good serving size. I couldn't finish it! The fried mushrooms were plenty. I was able to share with everyone. The next time we ordered (yes, I believe we ordered from this place 2 weeks in a row) I got cheese fries. They give you a huge bag of fries but only one small dipping cup of cheese (if you order on the side), so make sure to order an extra side of cheese. I shared with my friends because it was a huge portion. Somethings I noticed when ordering and tips Make sure you look at the toppings/added items when ordering burgers, hotdogs, sandwiches etc; there could be an additional charge for them. They deliver until midnight with a delivery charge. Ask for shredded or cheese sauce when ordering chili dog. I recommend this place for everyone to try. How have I not reviewed you yet, Tolly Ho?!?! I miss ya so much! When I lived in Lex, I had only gone to the current location on Broadway, not the previous one on Limestone. From what I can surmise, all that really changed was the location. The vibe and crowd are still the same. The menu is still the same. Loved coming here, any time of day or night. It became an almost bad habit towards the end of my time living there. I felt obliged the patronize this institution as much as possible before leaving. The food is typical greasy spoon, drunken college student at 3:09am kind of food. Definitely go for the fresh squeezed limeade. You won't regret that. I do have a beef with them and that is the no refills on drinks policy. I'm a thirsty guy. Sometimes even when I order the 32oz it's not enough. Maybe I should get that checked out. Depending on what night of the week it is, you may be waiting a while to order or to even get service. Some of the newer employees don't seem to know what it means when a customer is standing at the counter waiting. All in all, it's worth it. I'd give the place more stars if the drink policy were different and if the jukebox had a larger selection and if it came with a shot of gin. Next time I'm in Kentucky, I'll definitely make the trip out to the Ho House and feel oh so disgustingly full and good. But seriously, go. If you've never been there before and are going with a group of friends, tell the staff there. read more

A friend who has been going here for 10+ years took me here for breakfast. While I won't say it's life changing, but you can get a cheap and filling meal. I'm giving 2 stars because despite the awesome greasy food Tolly Ho serves, they have never been known for speed or efficiency. I occasionally stop in after I get off work around 4am. On every occasion it has taken 30-45 minutes to get my food regardless of how big or small the crowd is. The last time that I stopped in I ordered my food and waited for an hour just to be told they had lost my ticket. Tolly Ho needs to pick up the pace or get an entirely new late night staff. read more

This Lexington hole in the wall is a must visit if you want to have a taste of the University of Kentucky Wildcat culture. This is an all purpose place, part breakfast diner (breakfast here is good and inexpensive), part pub, and part sociology experiment. I love this place, the energy, and the intersecting social strata. It's not fancy but the food is good and afforable, which is why it is a college hangout. I love to come here to write and have a bite. They must be open 24 hours because I have been here at all hours. If you want to experience "Wildcat" culture or just want to people watch, this is a fun place to grab breakfast and coffee or a beer and a burger. And if it's your first visit, be sure to mention it to the cashier when you order, that is, if you want the FULL Tally-Ho experience, otherwise, don't do it. Cheers read more
