OK, here we go.....I dislike writing negative reviews, but this was my honest experience. It was my first time eating here (four ppl total). What started out as a positive experience quickly went downhill due to the unacceptable time it took to actually eat. I can't really blame the staff for that as this seems like an ongoing issue after reading the reviews on Yelp and other platforms. I'm very hesitant to return. They do have solid sandwiches here and an extensive menu with plenty of options for everyone and ample portions, too. We came here simply because my mom wanted a BLT and I saw a friend's picture on FB of the BLT she and her mom ate here. The amount of bacon in The LTD (their version of the BLT) was ridiculous in a good way, but shouldn't have taken an hour for my mom to get it and eat. My steak wrap (TR7) was very tasty and recommended by my server along with the tater tots. The sauces added a nice dimension. My brother had the double country fried steak plate with mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of green beans and he said it was good and plenty. Overall, the food was pretty good and the atmosphere was adorable with a clever car themed menu and decor. Plenty of seating. However, management may need to address the execution of service and be more aware of the customers. We were there for an hour before we received any of our food except for my sister's chili and although our waitress kept apologizing about the wait, a simple explanation of WHY it was taking so long for our food while other customers at tables who came after us, ordered after us and were served way before us (they actually finished eating and even got their bill) would have gone a long way. I now understand others' utter frustration dining here. It's not a matter of being short staffed when other tables mentioned were served and finished with their lunch. It's a matter of awareness. What a shame because I wanted to like this place. read more

I was a big fan of the old Tom & Betty's when they were off Roosevelt Blvd. I made it my mission to try everything at least once. Being car people, we could relate well. This visit did not have that same appeal. The brown gravy tasted like it came out of a can and nothing that we received had freshly prepared flavor to it. We finally made it to Tom & Betty's In Orange park ( J'Ville) Area. It's a nice car themed restaurant tucked away in a nice strip mall section. The restaurant is clean, well lighted and has a friendly atmosphere. Dawn ordered the "Toronado" roast beef and cheese hoagie with chips, and I had the bowl of potato soup and a beef patty. Everything was great and seasoned well. Rachel, our server was kind, very patient, and her service was above exceptional. The price was reasonable and I would definitely come back again! read more

Last time I was at T&B's was when they were located at the old Roosevelt mall location. It was pretty good then, but that's been a long time ago. Dropped in today for nostalgia's sake, but overall, it was not what I remembered. I guess you can't go back. Everything was just ok. It was seat yourself when we walked in, but the table we found was dirty. Moved to the bar area, and our table there was dirty, too. Guess I will clean it myself. I came here for lunch because it was on the way to an appointment I had and had never been before. I like trying new places. What I noticed upon entering was that it wasn't overly busy for a lunch time so I felt comfortable that I'd have time to order and eat to get to my appointment two miles away that was an hour and a half later. Mistake! My drink order was taken by my server and took forever to come being brought out by the other of the two servers working today. What should have clued me in to just have a soda was that she was the only one running and was apologizing to all her tables about the wait. Hearing this I decided to play it safe and go with the build your own sandwich (sub, turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and spicy mustard) option with fries which surely wouldn't take long to throw together....mistake #2. I waited so long that I asked if I could change the order to a "to go order". The server said I could but brought it out on a regular plate and brought a box with it, "just in case I had time to eat some before I had to go." While there is ketchup on the table, don't look for any salt and pepper and I dared not ask because it could take another ten minutes I didn't have. I packaged up my meal and asked for the check. I would normally have left this with a two star review due to the poor service and mediocre food BUT the menu says the sub is $13.99 while I was charged $14.49. The real stickler for me was the reduced bill charge if you pay in cash. No where on the receipt does it say it's due to a credit card fee that they have to pay for card transactions. Instead showing the correct total with a percentage off the total for cash payments. I wanted to like this place as it's convenient to home, but the poor service, mediocre food (go to Publix for your sub it's much better) over charging your menu prices without warning and then offering a discount if you pay in cash assures that I'll never step foot in this establishment again. This is a part of Jacksonville history and resilience as this is there 3rd location in the city! The Menu is so very well done too - the food is well curated and it took us forever to actually order as the server Lindsay was patient with us as she explained each item of the menu slowly so we could comprehend how good it would be - I love her! I ended us getting a Mustang but not on a bun - actually in a wrap - its god a cajin sauce that its very wonderful and when paired with red wine ( or three ) hits the spot! Our second and last visit. Last time i gave 3 stars and this is about the same or maybe 2. Was just told they are out of chili and have been out all week. Wtf. I ordered something that says it comes 2 sides. Then was told that the menu is wrong and that is not in the right spot. Again what?? Great, friendly, local restaurant with a long Jacksonville history. Family owned and they are always present to greet you. Different venues throughout the week from trivia, karaoke to live music on weekends. Fridays are military appreciation days. Comfort food and sandwiches. The Benz is my favorite. read more

We tried a cheeseburger which was huge, juicy loaded with fresh pickles, lettuce and tomatoes! The fries were the best! My hubby had a Reuben today, loaded with corned beef and sauerkraut...and plenty of those amazing fries! Yummm! Oh and don't forget their fresh brewed iced tea! The best in town! Good food and some Bingo! The sandwiches we ordered were good size, big enough to share. But, the star of dinner was the deep fried salad peppers! A large portion for 3 of us to share served with a small side of ranch dressing. The serving of Ranch wasn't proportional with the salad peppers so we had to ask for more. That's the downside of this meal, because we were charged for that extra serving. I realize it wasn't much but either make the customer aware of the charge or just serve a little more ranch with the appetizer. read more

Let me start by saying the service was great. And that's where it ends. We arrived at 5:30 on a Friday night. The server started by listing all the items they were out of (potato salad, pasta salad, potato soup, chili was going to take a while). We ordered drinks on happy hour then were told what we had ordered wasn't included in happy hour. Food arrived fairly quickly but very overcook. (Wings and roast beef sandwich). At 6:30 we were then told that our table was reserved and the people were waiting and we would need to leave. There was nothing posted anywhere that this evening was a special event or that reservations were required after a certain time. We were not told when we were seated of any of this. We weren't finished with our drinks or food. Finally the GM came over and told us that people had to pay $10 a person to see this band - which there was still nothing advertising the band or any type of special event - and that she could try to find us a seat at the bar if she could but there were four of us and we would not be able to sit together - at this point we were so frustrated that we wouldn't have stayed anyway. I couldn't tell you the name of the band or why they were so good because they never told us. They just told us that they were sorry but we would have to leave. They had plenty of signs outside advertising the events they have on the reg such as bingo twice a week and happy hour etc. etc. but nothing about a special event. And the fact that we weren't told while we were seated that we would have to leave in an hour was also incredibly unprofessional. This is not the same Tom and Betty's that used to be at Roosevelt. I don't know who owns this place but it's a good thing they have regulars. Because they certainly aren't encouraging anymore patrons to become regulars. It's a shame because they have a potential to be a good local bar but we obviously won't be returning. read more

I stopped in T&B with a friend for just a drink and to see the new place on a recent Friday night. For those familiar with the 17 location that was well loved, you'll feel at home. The car themed decor came with, though it's definitely a different staff. The band playing was okay, and the small number of patrons were enjoying them. But the lights were way up and the crowd was sparse, making the atmosphere feel a bit sad at 10pm on a weekend night. The beer selection is limited, but my draft was $3 so can't complain about that. I'll likely be back during the day for a sandwich when nearby, but not looking like a place I'd meet friends these days. read more

I had one for a free appetizers up to $ 9.99, Its only good for 30 days and i was in my 30 days. . I know soup is an appetizers so I ordered it and a soda. I ordered nothing else that's all I wanted since I just cooked and ate dinner at home. I usually will get French fries to eat while playing Bingo but not this time. When it came time to pay bill I was told soup ain't an appetizers. I asked the waitress then what is an appetizer on their menu and she couldn't tell me. Very disappointing, microwavable bacon used on their version of a BLT the LTD, just awful and expensive $12.99. Urban Bean is close which serves a very good BLT with bacon cooked properly in a frying pan or on a grill for a lower price. Suspect other food at Tom and Betty's is also lousy. Lots of old white people in the place not a diverse crowd, but that is Clay County, scared white people. They accept mediocrity, perfect place for them to eat. read more

She was kind and hardworking but was overwhelmed. She was responsible for bussing, waitressing, cleanliness, bar, and tendering the tabs. In my opinion she was left high and dry by management. Cheese was NOT melted but overall the flavor was good.My husband got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and a cup of soup but potato salad came out instead. They were "sorry" but only tried to fix it at the end once we were done. My first at the new location and I was very happy, its close by my house also which is a plus. The place is so cute and its a friendly family atmosphere. They have several events during the week happening and a seperated "Spirits" area. I brought the family group and Megan our server knocked it out of the park with service. They were out of wings that night and my husband wanted them things (Boo Hoo) but he was pleased with his Large sized Ruben. I had the burger with kettle chips and it was great. The Baked Potato Soup was actually just white gravy, potatoes and some toppings. Now don't get me wrong I can eat white gravy out of a bowl, but that's not what a potato soup is. Also, the server (waiter) delivered our order and ignored us the rest of the night. It was not very busy, so that was no excuse. Used to be a great place but our visit today was troubling. Not so much the quality of the food , but the nickel-and-diming that goes on with the cost. Had the bronco burger(menu price 12.99) but the bill said 14.99. We split the burger as it is huge but was informed an extra plate would be $1.29. Got the gps add-on which included BBQ sauce but we couldn't find any on the burger. Was told it was "drizzled" on, whatever that means. Asked for some more sauce.....and was charged extra! It was later removed after we complained however. All in all a less than satisfying visit which is sad considering the long history T and B has. Cute little diner tucked away in a strip mall area, Tom & Betty's is right off Park Ave. We found this little place as we were taking a class 3 doors down, so we had lunch! From my understanding, this is their 3rd location... Typical diner atmosphere, decorated with tons of license plates and parts from cars. Super cute idea and I am sure it attracts many "car" people. The menu is also full of car terminology....so brush up and be prepared on having a roaring good meal. The diner itself is fairly good sized, with plenty of tables and bar seating and even a few tables outside. The bar has many domestic beers but ask, because they have beer not listed. They also serve wine. Service is average but friendly. We sat outside, so I had to go in to remind someone that we were there and needed to be served...but after that...service was great! I ordered the fried pickles and the Alfa Romero....aka the Hot Italian. (I mean who doesn't love a hot Italian?) This sub came with: Salami, pepperoni, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, with Italian dressing....side with a salad. This was super! I believe the banana peppers really uplifted the taste! The fried pickles are some of the best that I have had in awhile...thick crinkled cut chips lightly battered and crispy, not soggy....dipped in ranch...yum! So I got an online order from here. I wasn't sure sure of where to pick up my food. I saw a waitress and asked and she told me bar. No bartender was there, so I awkwardly stood around for 5 minutes. Nobody came to the bar or asked why I was just standing there. I saw a to-go box at the end of bar, which had my name on it so I took it and left. Staff doesn't seem eager to help. Nobody working there was wearing a mask, I get the covid numbers are way down but the pandemic isn't over. Food was honestly whatever. It was bar food nothing blew my mind, it was all kinda meh. But one of my Mozzarella sticks had uncooked breading. One star- meh food, bad communication during service, and no masks. read more

Stopped by for a bite and my husband and I told the waitress we were going to share a burger and an order of cheese sticks. When our food came the burger was cut in half and she gave us 2 plates, we were like oh ok. There were notes on the table about extra charge for using psymrnts other than cash. When the bill came we noticed we were charged for them cutting the burger in half and 2 plates (reusable). First we were never asked if we wanted it cut or never told there was a charge to cut it in half. Food was just ok..we will not be back because we feel we were nickel and dimed. I had the lunch soup & sandwich, the potato soup was not hot and taste bad. I sent that back and got thrift chili. It was better but. Still not good. They would be better off buying premodern soup from Sam's Club. Then I took a bite of my sandwich it had no flavor, the bread was stall. For a place that has a reputation for their sandwiches they are not living up to there reputation. I did not eat the sandwich so I ate the bad chili! Don't waste your time or money at Tom & Betty's they are living off the reputation of years in the past. We went there for a late lunch. They had two servers and it wasn't very busy. The server we had was super rude. She would yell across the restaurant that they had no soups because the truck didn't come. They both ran around in a panic the entire time we were there. It made me feel very uncomfortable and not relaxed at all. It was my day off from my job and wanted to experience a nice relaxing lunch. It was awful. The food took sooooo long. I had to wait forever to get mayonnaise for my sandwich. When I finally caught the waitress, she was in a hurry and seemed very agitated. I understand there is a shortage in help and I understand being busy as well. I myself have been a waitresses and have been extremely busy but there is no excuse for rudeness. You are there to serve customers and make it a great experience regardless of what's happening in the background of the business. We almost left because we were so uncomfortable. There are too many restaurants to have to deal with this type of service. Do better! Maybe a change of front staff is what you need. This is not the first time dealing with this waitress and frankly, I won't settle anymore. She won't change as this is her personality. read more

Very slow service to get food even when place is almost empty. Ordered a salad, nothing to cook on it. It's now been 25 minutes and was just told they are working on it now. There was a table with 3 people and another with 6 people. That's it. Must have 1 person in the kitchen. I was also here couple months ago and same slow service. Loaded fries my other side were great when they arrived later. The excuse was they were busy. Well that's not my problem nor really a problem but a blessing. Came out for a car show because the weather was so great. Stayed for happy hour and had the cheese sticks and the MAC. It's a nice portion for both orders and tasted very good!!! Kaitlynn does a hell of a job bartending with a great personality(Her laugh is infectious). She is very attentive and keeps the glass full! I'll definitely be back. read more

okay so.. i gave them a 1/5 on opening day so i decided i'll give it another chance and i gotta say they got it together now. i enjoyed the food, i am a total meatloaf fanatic lol, i love meatloaf and the fact they had a meatloaf sandwich on the menu... i had to get it. never heard of anything like that before and it was really good! not my first choice in local restaurants and it's not as good as the one that was on roosevelt a while ago, but it is a good place to stop by every once in a while! read more
