I understand that this is a chain, so I wasn't expecting much from the food other than corporate standards, but there are a couple things this chain is known for that disappointed. I stood alone 10 minutes waiting to be seated at a dirty table, while the staff was standing around talking. The service didn't improve throughout, as my server was pretty rude and basically ignored me, not even offering a drink refill. The ambience was old timers at the early bird special, unless you were the girl from the morning shift who stopped in on her day off and had everyone working there parade by to say hello, a status other patrons were not afforded. read more

Stopped by here on a road drip up the East Coast. We didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised by the staff and the food. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I ended up ordering the Country Fried Steak and am typically critical of this dish because I have high expectations. Let me tell you, this was a top tier Country Fried Steak - not an award I give out often. My whole group enjoyed their meals, but mine makes me want to return the next time I'm passing though. I hope that anyone worried about coming here based on some past reviews give it a chance like we did. We almost didn't go to this place when we were driving through the area based on some of the reviews, but wanted to try something we didn't have back home. We had a really good experience. It was very quiet we were seated immediately. Our server was very attentive and all 5 of us enjoyed our food. I especially enjoyed the salad bar. We're really glad we stopped here. read more

Being from Eastern/Central PA, Eat N' Park is a new experience as we usually have Denny's or Perkins, along with many local family establishments. Stopped in here for a late breakfast and was quickly seated as it was not crowded. Interior feels old and could use some upgrades. They have a different breakfast/lunch menu, with the lunch menu not having the full breakfast. Ordered a breakfast combo with eggs, bacon, French toast, and hash browns that arrived quickly. Bacon was the highlight of the meal, it was excellent, and the French toast was good. Hash browns were ok, but the eggs were flavorless. Sodas were small but refills were available. Friends who were separately eating here had to wait for the salad bar that opened almost a half hour late. Service here is better than the food in general. If this is what's available to you, it's ok as its edible, but I've had better. read more

Traveling for work and decided to play it safe by having supper at Eat'n Park. Service was friendly and attentive. Iesha waited on me and she checked on me frequently. The salad bar was well-stocked and clean. I enjoyed my whale of a cod supper. The potato soup was malfunctioning this evening. It looked like brown water with brown potato chunks and they whisked it away and brought out more. The chili was normal looking and tasted fine. read more

I grew up going to these establishments while visiting family, so I will admit that my view is slightly skewed. First off the pies are awesome. If you can get one to take home do it. As for the food, your getting decent diner food but with super friendly service who will bring you a new soda or "pop" if you know your stuff l, before yours is empty. (Seriously don't called it a soda it's like freaking nails on a chalkboard). The salad bar is always a good bet. Breakfast is always the best thing here no matter what time of day. Just think of it as a gourmet Denny's because the food has taste and the staff is actually friendly and welcoming. read more

We decided to stop here for a late lunch. The restaurant was not very busy. We were seated quickly and our drink order was taken and brought to the table. They had a brunch buffet that was ending at 2pm. I should've known better than order the buffet but assumed since there was still 30 minutes left that it would still be stocked. Waitresses took much longer than I would have expected to come and take our order. My spouse ordered a meal from the menu. Both were horrible. The waitress refilled his coffee at the end of our meal. Just not a good experience. I took a plate from the buffet bar and didn't realize: that it had a saltine cracker from the previous person. So definitely not cleaning the dishes well enough. I also witnessed an employee grabbing a latte cup from a dirty table and mumbling that he needed to clean it because he needed it for an order that he just took. I wonder if it actually went thru the dishwasher or just got rinsed. I definitely will not go back. Even the smiley cookies so horrible that our 3 year old grandchild took a bite and wouldn't eat it. Amazing service at this spot. From the moment we walked in it was a swift process and that's saying something. Especially since this was during the dinner time rush. Our waitress was spectacular and on point. She didn't miss a thing which was nice. Food is on par for all the other EnPs out there. Their new deal where you can order one of the new menu items with the salad bar is quite the deal for under $10. I mean, who could pass up the salad bar? The kid's menu is quite the deal for the little ones too. Pick from around six different entrees and even more sides that range from the ordinary (French fries) to the healthy (broccoli or grapes). read more

They only had 1 server working, who we seen 3 times, once to bring a side, bring our check and bring my card back, the greeter did everything else. My plate had hardened mashed potatoes and green leafy stuff on it, I got banana fosters waffles. The manager was yelling at the staff and making them clean around customers. Regional chain family restaurant doing strongest business for breakfast. They offer a breakfast buffet with everything you could want for about $8. My daughter liked the biscuits and gravy from the buffet. Good breakfast Meat lovers omelette was pretty good, nice big portion. The only cheese available is American. Being from Eastern Pennsylvania, I never heard of Eat and Park before but my Western PA friends swear by them. I was initially interested in salad bar, but I also was read a listing of pies so that justified the stop on. Our party arrived in time to have Sunday brunch and at that time the Salad bar was somewhat truncated but had additional hot breakfast and lunch items. I sampled most of the offerings and made sure to leave room for pie. The food is basic, not overly sophisticated but good, similar to good quality diner food. And the pie...just outstanding in terms if variety and quality, almost worth the stop all by itself. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful and the price was right too. Overall, I am fan, and a fan of this location based on how clean, efficient and well run this busy location was. Next time I am in the area rest assured I will stop by. read more

Eat'n Park's service is probably the worst in the area. We went there for dinner one afternoon, and everything was running smooth until our waitress decided to take her lunch or break or whatever. She told us that another waitress would assist us, but then we suddenly felt like an outpost at the South Pole--waiting and waiting and waiting for drinks to be filled, our check, etc. After 30 minutes we flagged down another waitress, who got into a hushed shouting match with other waitresses in the back (we still heard them) over who was supposed to be waiting on us. We've ordered their food to go as well, and the service there isn't great either. They've forgotten things, messed up the orders, and at one point we were charged for a dinner that we didn't even order! Food's OK--not great--but with service like that, it's best to go across the street to Denny's. read more

I had my first experience at an Eat'n Park today. Even though I was originally bothered that the restaurant was not called Park'n Eat, I decided this was the best place to cure my hangover from a weekend of tailgating at Penn State. The place reminded me of a mix of Denny's and Marie Calendar (fast diner with a trademark for selling pies?). They had a decent looking brunch buffet, but I opted for something off the Eat Smart menu since I was starting the beginning of my detox and attempting to make responsible eating choices again. I'm a huge fan of menus where healthy options are offered and the nutritional content is shown so this was a big plus for me. I got the scrammbler, which was an egg sandwich made with egg beaters and canadian bacon and came with a side of fruit. I thought the food and portions were pretty good, but the value was great. Coffee and breakfast came to a total of $8. Although I don't visit Pennsylvania often, I'm a new fan of Eat'n Park and will probably eat here again the next time I visit and I'm hungover. read more

I had to go to Altoona on business one afternoon, but before my meeting, I had to stop and get some lunch. Thanks to my railfan husband, I've been to Altoona numerous times. And I can tell ya, there ain't a lot of dining options in Downtown Altoona. Eat'n Park to the rescue! Eat'n Park is good but not great food, steady but unspectacular (except of course for their coffee--which is excellent). You won't remember it tomorrow, but it'll do the job today. Plus, I used to play in a band, so I know pretty much every Eat'n Park in Southwestern PA! So I did have a decent cup of chicken noodle soup, BLT, and coffee here. Then on to my meeting. read more

Honestly, what do you expect from a Denny's type dinner. I normally only go to Eat'n Park when I am on the road and just want a salad. The salad bar is normally decent with fresh veggies, fruit, and ok soups. The salad bar was as expected although the chili had burnt meat in it which ruined the flavor and is unacceptable. For some reason this time I ordered there rigatoni and sausage w/ salad bar. I have no idea what I was thinking ordering off the menu. The rigatoni was terrible. Sausage had no flavor and the sauce was straight up ragu (or cheaper). My advice if you choose to go to Eat'n Park avoid the menu and stick to the salad bar. read more

First off the waitress got my husband drink wrong then never came back and told us that our food would be right out. When it did come out it was 20 mins later or maybe longer.The syrup had a fill on the top meaning is sat for awhile on the plate before it came out to us. She only came by twice to see how we were doing. When asking for a glass of water she forgot twice to bring it to us. It took a very long time to get our check. Friend and I came in here after a long travel Warner Road for some pie! Waitress says you guys look tired. We replied yes we are we've just been traveling we just wanted some pie. My family and I just had dinner there on Mother's Day, and I would suggest anyone to avoid it at all costs. First the salad bar only had about 5 veggie options on it. My wife chose the sole and when it came out, it smelled very fishy and tasted even more fishy. I doubt that it was fresh. My wife actually got sick on it. The store didn't seem very clean and the servers could be heard making unpleasant comments under their breath since we had a large party. We were with friends from Pitt and they said that we had to try Eat'n Park. Not because we were going to be blown away but more because we needed to experience the Pitt staple. We went with a group of 5 and I would say the experience was what I would have expected. The buffet was decent, the price was right, and the ambiance was exactly what I would have expected. Ordered a meal that we've had at other Eat n Park's, the Ranch Chicken Primavera. Served here without the sauce, and the piece of chicken small, and not the buttermilk dipped chicken as advertised. I don't understand some of the poor reviews. I had a very good experience there. I was in PA a few nights ago and was having an awful day with a screwed up hotel reservation and just downright misery because of the cold. On Wednesday night, I went there to get a warm cup of coffee for $1. Since I had a long day ahead the next day and had limited options for breakfast and lunch due to a crazy schedule, I had to think ahead. I learned that I could order both in the morning... The next morning, I did just that. I was able to get a nice breakfast sandwich (egg and ham), fruit cup, and coffee for $7. I also ordered a turkey club and chili for lunch for $11. I called 10 minutes ahead and when I got there, the food was ready and everything was perfect. The place even adds a smiley face cookie to every order. I thought the service was very good. My trip to Altoona was a total pain but Eat'n Park made it a little more pleasant. It's a nice diner and I would recommend checking it out. The next time I'm in PA, I would stop in one of these places for a meal. read more

Note: This review is about the Eat N Park located on 2600 Plank Rd, Altoona. Stopped here for lunch on a Tuesday in early August while visiting Altoona. I have eaten before at different Eat N Park restaurants and remember getting good service and decent food at a reasonable price. Not at this one. There were not many customers. My wife and I were seated and placed our orders within 3 minutes of arriving. My wife ordered the salad and soup bar, I ordered a cheese burger with tomato & lettuce and a cup of chicken noodle soup. At that point the food server disappeared. My wife helped herself to the soup and salad bar and I waited for the cup of soup. Finally, after about 10 minutes, what was supposed to be a cup of chicken noodle soup arrived. In reality it was an overflowing cup of inedible wet noodles. No broth, no chicken. I just pushed it aside. It did not look anything like the picture on the website. After about 20 minutes I was informed by the food server that my cheese burger "got stuck in the machine" and broke apart. It would take a little longer while another burger is cooked. Ten or so minutes later the cheese burger arrived, without the lettuce & tomato. When I informed the food server that lettuce & tomato were missing I was told it was "under the burger" and therefore cannot be seen (I'm not making this up). Of course there was nothing there. At that point the food server disappeared again. After two bites of the cheese burger the bottom 1/4 of it fell out of the roll. Upon inspection, I discovered that the burger was made up of two sections. The section that fell out of the roll had grill marks. The larger section had none, indicating that the two sections were from two different burgers. Now I began feeling a little sick, not knowing where the different sections came from (were they portions of returned food?). Of course the food server had disappeared again and after about 5 minutes I took the cheese burger and went in search of the manager. Once again, I was told, this time by the manager, that the "burger got caught in the machine" and was patched back together with only one part getting grilled. I showed him that the sections did not match and were obviously from two different burgers. He did not dispute this and removed my meal from the bill. This whole unpleasant ordeal took over 40 minutes of my time. I have never before encountered such poor service, bad food and incompetence in a restaurant. After 45 minutes of wasted time I left the Eat N Park and went to McDonalds where the service was fast and the cheese burger did not fall apart. read more

This was the first time that I visited this Eat n Park, is wasn't busy so I figured that everything should be fine. I couldn't have been more wrong. No one seemed to care about what they were doing. My waiter was the best thing about this experience. The salad bar didn't have much on it and the most important thing about a salad bar is the lettuce. The iceberg lettuce was practically empty during the entire time that I was there. Someone was even puttering around the salad bar wiping things and didn't even bother with the salad stuff. Don't waste your time going here (or they will). I went here yesterday with a group of 7 to get some Sunday brunch. They had a decent amount of customers, but not what I would consider extremely busy as there were empty tables and the wait to get a table was brief. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences that I've ever had and only the third time I have ever walked out. We waited quite some time to be acknowledged by our waitress and she said she'd be back to help us because she needed to put in an order from another table. We were seated at our table for at least 27 minutes before she even asked for our drink order! My friends all got the buffet, but it didn't look that impressive and I'm not a huge buffet fan. So my boyfriend and I made the mistake of ordering off of the menu. I ordered a strawberry lemonade and he ordered a raspberry lemonade. They were incredibly too sweet and we eventually had to ask for a cup of water to water down our lemonades! My friend commented that she had ordered the strawberry lemonade in the past and would never get it again. She also commented that her family had problems with slow service here in the past. 30 minutes after placing our orders, we still did not have our food. At this point, I couldn't take it anymore and was on a time constraint, so my boyfriend and I left. They still charged my friends for our drinks, which at that point, should have been taken off of the check and that created a point of contention between my friends and me. Never again. I was so disappointed when we got in the car and noticed a Cracker Barrel across the street, but had to settle for McDonald's because so much of our time had been wasted PARKED at Eat'n Park. read more

I am an IUP graduate and loved Eat'n Park during undergrad and graduate school. I recently attended PSU family weekend with my nephew on Altoona's campus and was amazed at how well this chain still brings home good food. The location, near a Cracker Barrel and highway, was clean and the food taste like home! However, what really made the visit special was the hospitality I received from Robin (pink shirt) and Darlene. They were extremely polite and professional and displayed customer service at its finest. I ordered a simple egg and bacon scrambler with toast, a decaf hot tea, a box of blueberry muffins and two slices of pie. They were so sweet I even purchased a shirt and mug. Everything and I do mean everything was delicious - I couldn't have done better myself. Thank you for blessing me with kindness and leaving a remnant of love for Altoona! I always went to eat n park on plank road Altoona, Pa because their cod was to die for. Well....let me tell you I gave it 1star.... because fist I ordered the cod, it came out so full of pinko bread crumbs looked like they dumped it on them after the fish was made, n burnt them. The fish was cold the bread crumbs were burnt. Finished me from going back there. My daughter ordered the hamburger with tomatoes n lettuce n it was supposed to have a egg on it. That waitress came out put it down n left. She asked for mayonnaise she was more worried in getting the check to us before any of the food was put on the table. 4 times my daughter asked for the mayo then I said I a stern voice she still hasn't gotten her mayo.she finally quit talking n went n got it. I said to her this isn't what she ordered ..I said the Egg was missing.the bun was burnt black n so she took it back they threw on the egg but by then the burger was cold. Worse ever time. It's usually good .but if they are teaching the people to cook make them eat the burnt n cold stuff first. I bet they don't burn it again.
