His work was careful and innovative -- it was a really difficult repair -- and he left the place completely tidy. Dann also rebuilt our back outdoor stairs and did a tidy, solid job of it. His rates are reasonable and he's quick, a great communicator and easy to be around. We recommended Dan to a friend who needed some fairly extensive work done in her kitchen and she said his work was excellent and he was a joy to have around (she works at home).

We contacted 4 companies, and received 3 quotes. Tekline came out but never quoted. The most expensive quoter got on the roof, and wanted an absurd amount of money because he said the pitch was so steep, and then started talking about permitting (which isn't required for residential roofs). The least expensive (the top rated company here on yelp) came in at an absurdly low price after doing a once over with a drone. I know a little about material costs, and they said the job would take 3 days minimum, and unless they were paying their guys less than minimum wage, their quote made no sense. I found Orlando through a reddit discussion board, where a guy who owned a few commercial buildings said that Rivera Roofing did a good job for him and also did residential. Orlando is the owner, and he came out, climbed out on the roof and explained what was going on, what he would do, gave us a quote that made sense. We also discovered that the previous roof install did not include soffits. Instead, they had put a bunch of box vents (exhale), and then a ridge vent (also exhale), a combination that did not let proper air circulation. He suggested smart vents (inhale) and ridge vent (exhale). He also suggested Malarkey as a superior product. We went with him, and we are glad we did. When his crew pulled back the old roof, the osb wasn't properly fitted along the valleys, with all sorts of small pieces jury-rigged in to small gaps. There was also mold on the board, and really the only thing saving us from leaks and a major disaster was that the pitch of the roof was so steep. We replaced all the OSB with new plywood, redid the trim around the skylights, put in the Malarkey Windsor Architectural shingles, the new venting system, and the house looks great. The crew worked hard, and Orlando checked in at every step of the process. His nephew ran our crew and communication was great and the work seemed really thorough, as was the cleanup. We used Tekline on our previous house in Montlake, and I have to say the process and the pricing with Rivera was more to our liking.

Mark and his great crew showed up on time, did the job, and left our yard free of debris. The chimney now looks nice, and more importantly, doesn't look like it going to collapse. Dutch Masonry was affordable*, professional, and clean. I'd recommend them 100%. *masonry is expensive, but their prices were a lot more reasonable than any other bid we got.

From the first call, I knew they were different. Fully responsive. Clear communication. Two of his crew went up (three story house!) and came back down with a load of helpful images. We had Rick from solid rock handyman services install a deck railing for us in April 2023. He was…read morerecommended by our real estate agent that we have good success with their previous recommendations over the years. Rick came out and showed us photos of his work on his phone. The photos looked good and he was pleasant to talk with. We agreed to hire him to build our railing thinking we were going to receive a quality and professional job. Unfortunately that is not what we got (see photos). The railing has multiple issues from split wood to different size pieces, two different colored screws and crooked gates. I asked Rick to come out and address the issues and he did come out to take a look. He said he would raise the bottom rail to fix the issue on part of the slats but then I would have a bottom rail that is higher in some areas and not level at all, so fix one issue by causing another issue is his idea of quality work. He would fix the gate as he noted he used warped wood to build them. He came back a few weeks later on memorial day which he picked so I canceled my plans so we could finally put this project to bed.. When he showed up he didn't have all the supplies he needed and didn't even have the correct supplies at that. I told him to come back with the proper materials. He clearly has no attention to detail and is not interested in fixing the project the right way, instead trying to take any short cut possible. Later that day after he left I ended up sending an email asking for him to fix the project by starting over which he even brought up when i was showing him all the issues instead of trying to put a bandaid on everything. Or provide us a refund and we will hire someone else. Rick's response was he was not going to fix anything now. He is not returning my phone call now either. Sadly we trusted Rick and we got burned. It was a very expensive lesson learned and took us a long time to save up the money and unfortunately will cost us even more money to fix the project. With spending almost $10k on railing we thought we were getting a quality product which is disappointing that we are now out the money and will have to spend more money to fix a railing that we should not have to do. I can not recommend Rick with Solid Rock Handyman Services. The lack of attention to detail from installing split wood, to different colored screws, and warped gates that don't latch properly i would never have him do work on property again sense he does not stand behind his work. I encourage you to look for a different handyman if you are in the need for one. Rick with Solid Rock Handyman is not someone I would ever use based on our personal experience.

He quickly determined that the job I was wanting to do would require an electrician and because of that I decided to not officially do it. It was so nice of him to apologize to me, even though I felt bad I couldn't have him do the job and pay him. I will gladly think of hiring again if I need a handyman.
