What a dumb idea You must be looking for a law suit. Your carts lock in place when a customer try to roll them out the door. If the customer is not paying attention it's possible that the lock in place will cause a person to get off balance and might cause injury. I am a customer that was lucky. I wouldn't normally write a review about a grocery store, but today's experience was terribly frustrating, especially when you consider the greater competitive market. TT ran a deal of $2.97 per pound for prime brisket, normally $4.99 per pound. I normally get my briskets at HEB or Costco and now I know why. The brisket I chose was close to 18 lbs and I took it to the counter and asked them to trim some of the fat cap. I've done this at other locations without any issues whatsoever. When the butcher (who spoke very little English) finally got done, he would not print a new sticker that reflected the fact that I now had 11 lbs worth of brisket. After speaking with the manager on duty, he informed me that they could not reprice the brisket at the new weight as that basically removed their profit margin on 7lbs of fat. I will not be buying future meat from there, even if it costs me another dollar a pound, as this is not what I would call customer service designed to ensure retention. You can't train people to care. My 80 year old mother goes out of her way to shop at the Tom Thumb on Preston Forest. Faruque is a long time employee who always goes out of his way to assist my mother to lift heavy things in her basket and help load her car. He is always super nice and endearing. We are sad to hear that Faruque is retiring and moving back to India! We wish him well and are grateful of his years of great customer experience and supporting our mother! I shop at Tom Thumb regularly because it's close to my house and they carry several items I really like. I've been a customer for at least 20 years. But over the past year I have become increasingly annoyed and have left the store angry more than once, and it's all because of their use of digital coupons. When I need something quickly, I just hop in the car and go to Tom Thumb to pick it up. I see an item I want and I'm just delighted that it's on sale and at a really terrific price. But imagine my disappointment when Tom Thumb insists that I work for it. I have to pull out my device, open the app, scroll for several minutes until I find the item, and click on it. Only then will Tom Thumb reward me with a discount. I can't just pick it up and buy it at the sale price and be happy, no, Tom Thumb insists on annoying me first before they'll allow me to buy it at the sale price. Tom Thumb, why do you go out of your way to annoy your best and long time customers? Why can't you just give everyone who walks into your store the sale price? Don't you think you'll make more people happy that way instead of disappointing and annoying your customers when they have to stop what they're doing to open up another one of the dozens and dozens of apps they already have on their phones and spend several minutes scrolling to find the item? You already got me to sign up for your rewards program, and I already dutifully type in my phone number every time I check out. Why isn't that enough for you? HEB just hangs an old fashioned paper coupon near the item and you grab it and scan it and it's super easy - not at all annoying. Costco discontinued requiring their customers to remember to bring in their sales pamphlet with them to get their sale price and now every customer automatically gets the sale price at the register. Service was amazing. The store was very busy but not over crowded. I was able to find everything I needed plus some cute Christmas mugs. I did self check out and needed assistance with liquor check out item, immediately within seconds a representative came up to my check out lane and assisted me. This was an easy breezy experience for the first time at this location. I didn't have a rewards card with them so I missed out on $20.00 worth of savings but that's ok it was fun. read more

If you need a kosher butcher look no more. Our Jimmy is your man. He is rude, obnoxious, and has attitude you can not miss. I was let know he is in the store for 20 years, and I wonder how such a personality was left unnoticed! I even wonder if we can trust the kosher origin of the meat he cuts! I have loved this Tom Thumb for 30 plus years but it has taken a full nose dive. The store inside and out is filthy. Parking lot is disgusting too. These are constants at different times of the day. When the previous GM (I think Greg) was there, it was immaculate inside and out. It has been on a steep decline since. In addition to that, it hasn't felt safe there in a few years. The homeless begging continues to be a problem and they have hired some Dallas Police at various times but not enough. I just left there again and was disappointed and disgusted. Most in the neighborhood have taken their shopping to Central Market and Whole Foods for these same reasons. The 11920 Preston Road location of Tom Thumb. Don't bother to buy any of the items on the digital coupon - if you go in the afternoon, they don't have it the butcher will tell you to come in the morning. Why do you want to go the next day when you are there to buy what has been advertised? People don't have time to come another day when you should be able to buy the advertised item when you come to the store. The boneless chicken breast and dark meat were on special, but they don't have one single package. Then when you ask for a raincheck since you might not have time to get it the next day - it is not available for raincheck. So they have you come into the store with their pretend sale that they don't have. Also, usually you have to buy a big package, if not, the beef is available in a smaller package for $2 or $3 higher per pound. Also, beware, the package looks fresh and when you buy it and flip it over the backside of the meat is darker and doesn't look fresh. You won't know it since the fresh side is on top. When T bones, ribeyes are on sale, beware, they are really fatty and have large bones. If you compare pricing, Tom Thumb is usually 20% higher than any other grocery. Now that we have HEB coming into our neighborhood, we have more choices and Tom Thumb needs to be more competitive. read more

My husband and I as well as his parents shop at Tom Thumb. His parents are needing assistance in picking up their grocery order. Today my husband found out that the only way to let them know you are there is through the app. This is a problem for many. 1. elderly don't know how to work the app. 2. care givers may pick up groceries for several different clients. 3. google their phone number and call in, except you don't know how to google on your phone because you're elderly or don't know which location your at. 4. walk in and let them know you're there, then why order online for pickup. I haven't paid close attention to the times of my shopping trips, but I do believe I've noticed an uptick in the presence of at least one human cashier at all of my visits. I don't believe I've been forced to use self-checkout in the past 6 months or so; I'm not sure if that was a policy change, but I consider this aspect of the experience to have improved. A big plus is that they've also changed the self-checkout software/hardware out to something a bit more modern. It works much more smoothly and I don't get the "unexpected item in bagging area" messages as much. I still have beef with Tom Thumb's prices; I'm not sure why everything at this place needs to be so expensive. But it's crawling distance from my house, so it's often worthwhile for the convenience, which I guess is what I'm paying for. Fair enough. Given the improvements they've made, I feel less inclined to price-compare to Prime Now while I'm shopping. So that's a plus for both of us, I guess, since it was getting kind of annoying. I've been shopping here for a few years ! It's my favorite place to go to avoid large crowds and find exactly what I need . They have a very nice bakery with the best jalapeño cheese bagels! Yes, GET the bagels!! Thank me later . You can eat them alone or make a unique sandwich out of them . The price points are debatable . It may be a bit higher than your local Wal-mart, but worth it if you want to find specialty items like saffron or Asian delicacies . You also won't have the crowds . They have a pretty neat sushi bar too with freshly made rolls . I also love their huge wine selection . From low end to high. Customer service is superb! I've never come across a mean face here . Tonite, I had a bad experience @ Tom Thumb. (Just like (I did last night. ) I put in my order for on-line grocery pick-up at about noon today. I received a text from Tom Thumb, saying my order was "ready for pick-up," @ about 5:30. I went up there @ ~ 6. I called the grocery pick-up line. Every time I called it, I was sent to voice mail. After 3 or 4 times. I called the store manager. I told him my woes concerning last night & tonite's issues with Tom Thumb grocery pick up. He hung up in my face. Then, I had to GET OUT of my car, in the freezing cold rain. (And, why is it that I do on-line shopping? So I can stay in my comfortable car.). I went in & talked to 2 people who were very COLD & uncompassionate concerning my not being able to pick up groceries 2 nights in a row. Their names are Albert Lopez & a tiny woman named Melissa. I told Melissa I was going to tell her boss about how she was not helping me any; she would take phone calls in front of me, when, a few minutes earlier, whenever I would call that same number, I was sent straight to voice mail. She would also help people in their cars that had just driven up. Never mind me, who had been waiting TWO nights for my groceries. Albert Lopez was THE WORST; I showed him a text on my phone, from Tom Thumb. It said that my groceries were ready for pick-up. He said, "we only send confirmations for pick-up through e-mail." I said, "oh, Albert, I was asked whether I wanted to receive confirmations through e-mail or text. I said 'text.' " Albert said, "we'll, we only send confirmations through e/mail." He was the BIGGEST butt! Did I just "happen" to receive a text (a text, @ my request,) to receive confirmations through text. He & Melissa were the BIGGEST BUTTS to me! When all I wanted to do was get my groceries. (After waiting for them for 2 nights. Albert & Melissa's motto was NOT "the customer is always right." It was "THEY were always right." They were the 2 biggest butts to me I've ever known. When all I wanted to do was get groceries from Tom Thumb. It is because of Albert and Melissa, from tonite's night shift, that I am switching from Tom Thumb to Kroger. From flat out ignoring you to simply being rude you always feel like you are impeding on their job, which is, I thought to say, "hello, how are you and what can I get for you today?" Once they do start cutting whatever, be patient and start "War and Peace" because it's gonna take some time and they offer nothing to fill the gap other than a long stare at the scale to say, "is that ok?" PLEASE, DO NOT ask more than one item be cut. Consider yourself warned. Contrast that to Market Street... Go ahead, I won't elaborate on the difference, you see if you can tell. The butcher department is slightly better but they have taken to hiding the prices behind the glass at the very bottom behind a paper strip instead of moving it up a row. Nothing hard to fix here, just observe it and fix it, "hey customers cannot see the prices...why don't I move the tag up so they will buy stuff?" "Nah, let 'em ask. If they can find me." By far the worst attempt at home delivery I've experienced! Don't waste your time with this company and their delivery service. Three successive orders, all three were a total disaster! Two never even made it...no explanation, no record of delivery! Finally when I called customer service, I was told the orders were "still outstanding..." with no reason for why items were not delivered! I couldn't even get a response on their APP! I have shopped at Tom Thumb for years and think they have better meat and produce than some other stores in our area. Since the COVID pandemic started I have done on-line shopping with delivery to my home. They have proved to be unreliable on delivery times. Once the groceries were to be delivered between 5 - 7 PM. They arrived at 9:30 pm and only after spending much time on the on-line chat and customer service line. Tonight, once again I have been on the on-line chat (worthless) and on the phone with customer service asking when the delivery scheduled for 4 PM to 5 PM will be here. It is now 6:30 PM. I was told the driver just left the store and is in route and should be here in 30 minutes. Hopefully 7 PM when they should have been delivered by 5PM?? That is 2 hours past due. This place has started sacrificing customer service to save a buck. I've been there in the middle of the day and am unable to locate an employee. I've waited for 4+ minutes at the self checkout for an employee to punch in a code so I can leave. When you take a 30 minute lunch break, 4 minutes matters. There's never anyone at the bakery station, I was able to remove my cake from the bakery and walk into the back to grab my own Togo container. After waiting 10 minutes and 2 employees walking by, I assume it's okay to diy. The employees clearly aren't paid enough because they don't want to go that extra mile. No one really asks if you need help, no one is really there to help you anyways. No smiles, no have a good day, everyone looks like they hate being there. I ordered a grocery delivery on line last night. I picked the two hour window 8am to 10am. at 7: 45 am i got a text that my delivery was on the way. then at 8: 01 am i got a text that said my delivery was delivered at 10am? huh it was just 8am? hows that possible. my credit card has been billed over a hundred dollars. i have called the customer service center now 5 times. each time the rep says some some will call. i have yet to receive a call and its near 12noon. no groceries, no call and I am out over a hundred dollars at this point! what a joke. barry read more

The kosher section is quite extensive, with kosher salami that's not even expensive, but that's not all it's only where I begin, because they even have kosher sushi for the win! And when thanksgiving rolls around you know it's the place where kosher turkey can be found! So now you see what I'm getting at even kosher candy and you know that's a fact, cheaper prices than other kosher stores, so pick up some marshmallows and make you some s'mores! So with all the kosher action you may think you found the place to pick up nice bagels that suite your picky tastes but when it comes to that you know it's a shame the bagels in every Tomb Thumb taste the same! I have had a terrible experience with Tom Thumb. This place has had me without medicine for about a month. The pharmacy manager would only give me 1 medicine when I had 9 transferred over there. He is prejudice. There is no other reason. And, I transferred my medicine. He purposely didn't send them all. And then filled them. I told them no take it away from there let him resolve them cause he stood right in my face and lied and told me there were no more prescriptions. This is the Mesquite Texas location. This is the only occurrence thus far. I hope to never run into him again. The upside is the young pharmacist. He should be there full time. Time out for racial prejudice of any form. After shopping for an hour, the clerk at the front was so rude to us that I both my wife and I walked away and abandoned our groceries. The management at this store has the ability to get rude workers. This is the third rude worker at this store. 1. She barged in between me and my wife and started handling our groceries. 2. I moved away and sat on a chair hoping my wife could handle her. The rude lady followed me and told me I was sitting in the wrong chair. 3. I tried to leave and the automatic door was, locked to prevent more customers from coming in.
