The produce is often outdated. This was mentioned to management BUT there were no long-term changes. As a customer - you need to check the dates for yourself. The customer service is average. Jerry and Carol are excellent when it comes to customer service but they are the rare employees. This store has really gone down in the last couple of years when it comes to customer service. We stopped today at Tom Thumb on Carrier Parkway in Grand Prairie, Texas. This is a great store with a huge selection of everything. You can imagine from flowers to a wonderful pharmacy and lab on site, plus groceries galore. And so many extras, even including housekeeping, household goods and personal care items for every member of the family. We stopped specifically to shop in the floral shop so that we could purchase some fresh cut flowers to take to my grandparents grave in the national cemetery in the DFW area. I visited the store a couple of times recently, as the store is convenient. Tonight, I stopped by to pick up some baking pumpkins. There were a lot of pumpkins that were shriveled or moldy and should've been thrown away last week. When I got to the self checkout register, the pumpkins didn't ring up as expected. This was about 5 minutes before the store closed and instead of the attendant apologizing and offering to adjust the price (the adjustment would've been about $1 or less), she proceeds to tell me that I picked up the wrong pumpkins and offered to walk me to where the pumpkins that were being sold for the price I mentioned, which didn't even seem to be in the same area. The price was clearly posted and the shipping container included dozens of the same pumpkins I selected, but were apparently put in the wrong place. Extremely poor customer service, especially for a grocer that seems to sell the same items that other grocers sell for 2, 3 or even 4 dollars. Last week, I picked up some donut holes and they were stale. It seems like with Tom Thumb's inflated prices and many people struggling to afford groceries, the items in the store aren't selling through as fast as they used to. I'll definitely consider shopping elsewhere whenever possible to avoid experiences like the one I had tonight. read more

Very disappointing experience on 12/31/25 after shopping at this store for over 20 years. Holiday items clearly marked 50% off rang up at full price. When I asked, the cashier laughed, and didn't attempt to help. Due to the long line I suggested removing the items instead of checking the price. I later discovered I was still charged full price anyway as items weren't all removed. When I called the store, I waited 15 minutes only to be told to "just bring everything back," including items I never received. No apology, no concern. This is the closest store to my house so I wish I really enjoyed shopping there so I wouldn't have to drive so far but every time I go in there it's so weird. It's super annoying. It's super anxiety causing as soon as you walk in. This is only a comment on this store post pandemic announcement. I was here the day after. Everywhere is reporting empty shelves. The employees here were amazing. Yes there were empty shelves but everywhere you looked they were hustling to get them restocked. They opened a box of the elusive toilet paper and announced it over the intercom. Every department was working to get everyone everything they needed. And they were very friendly about it. The store had a lovely air of normalcy while people were panic shopping. I don't shop here at all because there are stores closer to me to choose from but tonight, 2 i came for 3.99lb NY Strip steak and the guy in the meat market walks out and says, "yeah" which means How can i help. I point to what looks like the steaks bc it's not priced and he's said, "yeah that's them but i have to buy a value pack". I asked what a a value pack & he said there 4 together and he only has two. Today did it for me, I've shopped at Tom Thumb for over 12 years now. I knew it was changing once they closed the Albertson's on Carrier. The selection have gone way down, shelves empty, fruit molded or rotten. But this was the straw that broke the Campbell back. They had someone signing autographs and the lines were long. I asked the girl that was checking me out, excuse me can I ask you a question, she said yes, I said who is the person thats signing the autographs, she said I don't know (Liar), all employees are briefed when someone important is visiting your place of employment. I called to inquire about getting a vehicle registration sticker on 6/30 and was told they were available anytime until closing at 9 PM. I had hours to get there but decided to stop on the way to the airport before closing, only to find out they stop issuing at 8 PM. I've wasted over an hour at this store either waiting on a manager or someone in the floral section to finally get here or help me. I waited 30 minutes for the florist to get in late. I then arrive at the store a few days later to pick up my flowers and no one seems to know where they are. We're still waiting to hear from the florist as we speak to see if she made them or not. I will update this post IF they find my flowers, but they still deserve one star for this service. Update: my flowers weren't there, the manager let me choose a pre-made arraignment free of charge and was very apologetic. Had a problem with the personnel in grocery delivery/curb-side pick up. They would not refund the charges for a grocery order, which I had to cancel, due to transmission problems. I phoned @ 8:35 A.M. the morning of my scheduled pick-up time, which was 1:00 P.M. After going round and round with them, lady got snippy and stated "How Could You Be Charged, If You Didn't Pick Up Your Order." This was my 4th time of calling them. I called the store and asked for the Manager. I spoke to Ms. Sandy Gonzalez. Very courteous and professional. She corrected the problem in roughly 30 minutes. Because of this Lady, I will give the store 5 Stars, and opposed to the 1 Star, I had planned. read more

This is a great store that is clean, well stocked, and the difference maker is the staff. Two individuals in particular: 1) Mr George- he does it all from bagging to carts to customer service. He refused to let my pregnant "at the time" Wife carry out her groceries and that meant a lot to me that he was willing to go above and beyond to help her. 2) Sydney- she is my flower girl. Any and all floral needs and she will help. She has saved me on Valentine's Day, birthdays and can help any special occasion. I find it interesting that the art of being a butcher is dying. It's a sad cultural loss. Now, mind you have had two really negative experiences with butchers and both have been at Tom Thumbs. For the purposes of this I'll only focus on this location. I wasn't there when my wife asked the butcher to cut up a whole chicken. I didn't hear first hand the sound of his annoyance at the request of his threat of additional costs associated with the request. All of that I heard from my understandably frustrated spouse. No, what I experienced was the meal itself. Pieces of chicken cut into unrecognizable shapes with pieces of bone made small and unavoidable for the mouth and throat. Each served with my exasperated wife saying, "I'm pretty sure that's a thigh." The sad thing is that it made a great recipe an adventure of disappointments. It made me long for those days gone by or for the chance to travel with Anthony Bourdain to lands where butchers care about their work and strive for excellence. Since my original review a year and a half ago, this Tom Thumb has undergone a serious decline in customer service. As someone who frequents this store at least once a week, I should know. Depending on who your cashier is, you will probably get rushed through the line and discounted items will not be scanned and coupons will not be tripled or doubled, depending on the amount. Then you will have to go to customer service to have your discount refunded. My most horrific experience was at the pharmacy with Meoshia. I had flu-like symptoms and had been exposed to anywhere from 10-15 people with the flu, so I was prescribed Tamiflu. When I went to drop off my prescription, I had a question about another medication I take so I asked. Instead of listening to what I was saying Meoshia just talked over me and tried to tell me about a medication I've been taking for years. Rude. Since I'm not frequently at the pharmacy, I forgot to update my new insurance information. Instead of asking politely if my insurance information had changed, Meoshia asked quite abruptly. Then when I drove up to the window to pay, she took over the transaction from the pharmacy tech and inquired how I planned on paying for my medication. She basically said she hoped that I had a flex card. Excuse me? I don't understand why my method of payment for my prescriptions is any business of the pharmacy manager on duty unless she was offering to pay for it herself. That was totally out of line for her to see my insurance information and my occupation and make assumptions, not to mention completely unprofessional. I reported Meoshia's behavior to the manager on duty and he took my number down. I never received a phone call to follow up. You can certainly tell that this store is suffering with the impending takeover by Albertson's because the decline in the quality of customer service is abysmal. read more

OMG they have automatic electronic coupons! I don't even need to clip coupons, they automatically put it on there for you! My last trip there saved me $3! And I love that all their meats and vegetables are always so fresh! New to the area and was expecting a great experience with Tom Thumb. This store is horrible. The produce was awful and rotting. The bagged salads were out of date and disgusting. The entire store was dirty and not stocked at all. The ice cream section had frost all over the top shelf of product, looked like it had been sitting there for years. Pretty good store, definitely one of my favorite grocery store. Love all of the baked goodies (specially the cheesecake). Always clean and organized. I've never had a problem there. The only complaint I have is, there is one cashier that comes off as very racist (I have somewhat of an ethnic last name and she refuses to say it or looks at me weird). She acts like she is superior and I absolutely HATE the fact that she throws the groceries around as she scans them. I am paying for them, I wish she would show more respect and stop slamming my groceries around. I avoid her lane as much as possible. Other than that I really like this place. read more
