Dr. Petros is fantastic, but my experiences with Dr. Toma have been extremely negative. During my most recent visit, a technician began polishing my teeth before removing the plaque. When I questioned this, Dr. Toma stepped in and started doing the cleaning himself. It was unusually painful, nothing like the thorough and gentle cleanings I've always received from the hygienists at this office. He repeatedly hit my gums with the electric scaler, and when they bled, he suggested it was due to inflammation--despite the fact that I floss daily and never have bleeding at home. The entire cleaning was rushed and lasted about 14 minutes. Water was spraying everywhere, and the experience felt chaotic and honestly traumatic. I have veneers, and he commented that he "wouldn't be surprised" if they fell out soon because they were at the end of their lifespan--right after he had been pushing and pulling on them hard enough that it felt like they could come loose. This was already a rescheduled appointment because my original visit two weeks earlier wasn't honored--I showed up and was told I'd have to wait over an hour. Even at this new appointment, I waited 30 minutes, and the hygienist still wasn't available. This wasn't my first issue, either. Years ago, Dr. Toma attempted to make a crown for me and got it wrong on three separate visits. Eventually, Dr. Petros stepped in, fixed the problem, and even refunded my co-pay for the inconvenience. read more

The lady at the front is very nice and helpful. I appreciate that she's proactive in following up on details related to coverage/approval of procedure. That's a breath of fresh air from my experiences with other offices. Dr. Toma has great bedside manner. He is calm, professional and made the procedure painless. For someone who gets nervous before any kind of procedure - whether it's a cosmetic treatment, medical/dental treatment, I felt fully relaxed and had full confidence/trust in letting any fears go. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Never had a doctor's office threaten me! I went for my first appointment for a cleaning and x-rays. My appointment was scheduled for 1130. I was standing outside the building, looking for their office and calling them but they don't pick up the phone to tell me where to go. I finally found the office around 11:35. The dentist finally saw me at 1pm, a wait of 90 minutes. The aid that did the x-rays was rushing to get to lunch and kept shoving the piece of plastic in my mouth and cut up the roof and bottom of my mouth because she wasn't being careful. Dentist was pretty nice and took her time with me, but overall horrible first impression. They desperately need to hire more staff if they're going to see so many patients. Also this office has no privacy. It's one big room where you could hear everything going on with everybody else. Update: Upon leaving this initial review, their office saw it and called me to refuse further treatment. They threatened me and asked me to change the review. If I didn't do so they "would not feel comfortable treating me." I said if the next appointment goes well I would consider amending it, but I'm not going to be bullied into changing my bad review. I had came to this dentist for a check up and I needed a root canal because I have a hole in my tooth and I also had some cavities. And needed a cleaning. They said that they needed to wait for Insurance to approve the root canal and the cleaning but as time passed the hole in my tooth started to get worse and start hurting and deteriorating, and I called them and asked them if they could contact Insurance for me and tell them it's an emergency and see if they could fix it faster because I was in a lot of pain and they said help yes they set me up an appointment for the next day at 10 AM. I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes. And then when they took me back, they acted like they didn't know what to do and asked me if I wanted the tooth just taken out. Didn't check my root canal or give me options to keep. And the way they were asking me questions seemed like they didn't check my chart at all. And they said they were going to temporarily fix it when I had just got it temporarily fixed and that doesn't work for my tooth. It just comes right out. I explained that to them. It was very inconsiderate of them to schedule me an appointment and have me waiting forever, even if it was emergency appointment if they couldn't take me that day, they should not have suggested me an appointment for 10 AM on that day, especially if they weren't able to send in my root canal as an emergency. Wasted my time on top of making me pay for a baby sitter. I'm so disappointed with the experience. I don't even want to come back here again. It doesn't seem like anybody really knows what what's going there. read more

Worst worst worst. After they charged me 5k cash for braces and made my teeth worse now they make excuse to not see me or work on my medical dental treatment. And now have to go see another Orthodontics to fix my teeth for another 7k to put my smile back together. Don't recommend this to no one who's looking for dental work. I hate leaving reviews but this place made me If I could rate this place ZERO star I would they left me with an uneven occlusal plane, no space for an implant that was inteded to be placed after spending 5k on braces to open space. and my midline was way off... read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Toma's for a year now, and met Dr. Petros this past week in his absence when I dislodged a crown while flossing. It was a Friday and they managed to squeeze me in without delay. Each time I have been to their Clairemont office I've been treated with the utmost kindness by the dentists and their staff. After having experienced some very questionable behavior at a different dental practice in San Diego, it was refreshing to be back in the hands of professionals. From the front desk, to dental assistant, to dentists, everything runs smoothly. I never thought I'd write that I enjoy going to a dentist, but I do. I have been to two other amazing dentists, unfortunately my insurance doesn't carry them, so I had to go with a dentist recommendation by my insurance...no biggie, it's sometimes easier than hunting one down. Anyway, he has good reviews and I'm going to second some of those reviews! His staff are super kind and friendly. He is thorough and kind. He even complimented how well my teeth were worked on. I liked taking care of my teeth, and am so glad that I am continuing to do so! Mouth is in shape and all cleaned! Only giving one star because it's required by Yelp. In November 2019 and October 2020 I contacted this dental office and scheduled a cleaning. I still have not received a cleaning from this practice. Each time the receptionist set my appointment, the hygienist was off the schedule. I forgave the first incident as mistake, but twice? Unprofessional. No apologies, just an offer to reschedule when the hygienist was in the office. Ironically, I assumed the proper team member would be in the office at the time of my present appointment. Every staff member was in a rush. I walked in and received a partial greeting from the receptionist. She was on the phone and signaled me grab a worksheet from her and check the boxes. After reviewing the sheet I realized it was their COVID info sheet. They do not take your temperature which I also find strange seeing as most places require it. Just check no in the box and you're free to go. Typically when a receptionist is assisting another guest, they acknowledge your wait and offer a greeting. Not in this case. However, she did seem friendly when she properly greeted the next patient. As she spoke with them I couldn't help but overhear the doctor coaching their staff not to disclose pricing to another patient. I am not aware of the nature of the conversation to make any judgement, but the conversation certainly made me feel uncomfortable. My x rays and examine took about 4 minutes. The doctor told me who to schedule with exited. I asked the assistant why I wasn't getting my cleaning and that's when she informed me the appropriate staff member was unavailable. Not sure why the general dentist was unable to fill in for her. They were more interested in persuading me to learn about bleaching than actually discussing my oral health. The thought of a $250-$450 investment in whitening with this practice makes me nervous. I do not trust them and I will never return. I politely asked to be provided with my record and I have contacted a much more reputable practice. Moral of the story: I do NOT recommend. I highly suggest looking into other practices. Best experience I've ever had with a dentist! I had a lot of bad experiences in the past with dentists, I was afraid to go back. 5 years later; last year I was looking deep on yelp for a place that struck me as an office I could trust. Horrible experience. At first, they booked us for only xrays but told me they would do xrays and cleanings. When my husband and I showed up and got xray done, we asked them what about cleaning? They said we have to come back for it because hygienists only come twice a week. What kind of dental office cant clean every day? Then we go back for cleaning and the hygienists are horrible. So rough and did not do a good job. On top of this all, outdated equipment (worn patient chairs), administrative difficulty, and old patient rooms. read more

My husband and I selected Dr. Petros' office because the office accepted both of our insurance plans, was close to home, and had great reviews. This practice does not disappoint. The office is so incredibly friendly, and is always willing to work with you on whatever you need--Whether it be working with your schedule, your billing, anything. It is always clean, and I don't think we have ever waited more than 5 minutes for our appointments. Dr. Petros is also incredible. He is a kind, no nonsense kind of guy--Which I appreciate so much in a dentist. I am slightly terrified of dentists (Having had tons of work done as a kid, I'm kind of scarred) but he always explains everything he is doing, and makes sure you are comfortable with it. I have had to have a lot of work done in the last few months, and if there is anything that Dr. Petros can save, he does so. He is also aware of how much work he is doing in a single appointment, and makes it so that each appointment isn't too overwhelming. The staff is very helpful, friendly and kind. The office itself is willing to work with you and make arrangements. The doctors and assistants are very understanding and gentle, which is really important for a wimp like me, haha. I've had my wisdom teeth removed, cavities filled, deep and regular cleanings. Dr. Toma is such an amazing, honest and caring dentist. I had to have alot of work done because another dentist messed up my teeth years ago. And he has made sure that I am comfortable with the procedure and Reyna always works out a payment plan for me when my insurance (Delta Dental) are not doing what they should do to get proper coverage. I got my tooth pulled out in December and out of no where came the pain. Petros saw me the same day and attempted to schedule me to see a root canal specialist. Due to me being pregnant I couldn't take pain meds and by the next day I couldn't handle it anymore, I called Petros first thing in the morning and was able to see him the same day to get my tooth pulled (which was upon my request).
