The store is great but packed A little tight. The older lady there is always rude. I came straight from Burt's pumpkin patch and was loading things in my car around my pumpkin after checking out and spending over $300 there, and she actually walked out to my car to tell me I needed to pay for the pumpkin.... They don't even sell giant pumpkins. She asked me to see my Burt's receipt and so I asked her to show her their selection of 100 lb pumpkins and she mumbled rude things as she walked back into the store. She is always rude and dramatic so i have learned to give it back to her... love the store though I go twice A year. read more

After purchasing a few jarred items, my fiancé and I went to look at the garden decorations and found black caricatures in their outdoor items for sale. The fact that they would sell these items, supports RACISM. Please do not support this store unless they remove said caricatures. We've since thrown out the jarred items we purchased. An emergency caused my daughter to need to use their port-a-potty to clean up. They refused to allow her access and threatened to call the cops if they didn't leave. This tells me that they have no character or empathy. Both my daughter and her boyfriend were Georgia raised, and are kind and considerate human beings who would've aided anyone in need. Unlike the people at this so-called Southern business, who treated them as though they were not worthy of their port-a-potty! I am SO glad I heard about this place! I am new to Gainesville having arrived 5 weeks ago from Florida. What a fabulous little market!!! We stop here every year after a day at Oktoberfest and it's really a highlight to our day trip. We are always greeted by the friendliest people and their selection of novelty and gourmet items is insane. They stock every type of homemade jam/ jelly/ mustard you could possibly want. They have dozens of types of pickled vegetables and of course tons of fresh produce. They also carry in house ciders and jams. They have candy, pasta, jerky, sodas, you name it!! This place also keeps boiled peanuts and not to mention gorgeous pumpkins in October! It's just a really neat spot and worth checking out. read more

I visited a dear friend in the north Georgia area this weekend, and one of the highlights of my stay included a trip to The Tomato House, a little hut-like structure in the middle of nowhere offering locally grown vegetables and fruits, and an array of other goods. Pumpkins and scarecrows lined one of the outside walls, increasing my excitement over the impending explosion of fall. I stocked up on some produce for the week: acorn squash, okra, peaches and grapes. I also am stoked about the blueberry black tea I found on a shelf, packaged in a reusable collectible glass. An entire interior wall is dedicated to hot sauces, with names like Rectal Revenge, 100% Pain and such. Another room contains jellies and jams, relishes and other yummy condiments. Apple pie and peach bread teased me with their fruity moans, although I was able to resist, since my cart already was packed, with a couple of canisters of cinnamon and Herbs de Provence dangling off the edge. I love the north Georgia mountains for many reasons, and The Tomato House is now one of them. read more

Stopped here on our way to bringing my grandson to camp in the area. Found some great Apple Butter and Peach Butter. Looked at the boxed biscuit and bread mixes. ALL WAY OUT OF DATE. Mentioned to gentleman at register and he thanked me. Following week stopped in for peaches and tomatoes. All boxed items still on shelves. "Fresh Apple Bread" was moldy Lesson learned. CUTE LITTLE ROADSIDE STORE! This little tomato house is very cute and stocked to the gills with pickled vegetables, condiments and sauces. I am not really tempted by food in jars so I didn't really blink but my husband on the other hand was in heaven. They also carry some of the typical grocery store items as well, but are a bit limited due to their size. Although the produce section was small, there were some really good-looking options, (plums, cherry tomatoes, apples, tomatoes, onions, zucchini and more) at unbelievable prices. If you look closely, you will notice cute little birdhouses and gift items that are great souvenirs. The gentlemen working in the store were very sweet and helpful and we will definitely stop by again on our next visit to the area. TOMATO HOUSE FARMS If you drive just west of this little store, you will encounter a larger store, that supplies this little store. It is actually a gift shop with lots of plants, planters, garden decor, cards, clothing and more. It is very easy to miss because there is not much around the area. It is located on the north side of the road and you can't miss the large porch and plants prominently displayed out front. We stopped because we noticed the plants and wanted to see what was available. They had some really nice plants mostly for shaded areas but the prices were very reasonable. I noticed a variety of coleus that appeared to be suffering in the sun. When I mentioned that we needed sun tolerant plants and that this one did not appear to be fit for sun, the lady simply minimized my comment and stated that this plant would do well in the sun. When I asked why it was shriveled up if it was sun tolerant, she said nothing. There were no identifying tags on the plant. Since I have really good common sense and am smarter than the average bear, I did not purchase this particular plant. Later, when reading the tag on the same plant at Lowe's, it was described as a plant that needed shade. When in doubt, don't buy. Make sure that you know what you want/need and don't rely on someone whose primary interest is their own. When necessary, take time to check the item via your smartphone. This is a great place to stop as you travel to or from North Georgia. The people are nice and friendly and I really enjoyed stopping here and purchasing great plants for my garden. read more

Sadly, I can only give this cute, little family owned and operated business three stars. They carry every sort of locally grown vegetable and fruit, canned good, cider, and peanut product you could imagine. The prices are rock bottom; a big basket of honeycrisp apples for $3 and a huge cup of boiled peanuts for $2 were just two of the treasures I picked up today. The elderly gentleman who checked me out was also incredibly kind and helpful. However, their boiled peanuts were sadly just barely mediocre, and for that, I cannot award above a three star. Though they were being freshly made outside (and from bags of green peanuts they had on display), they had an uneven consistency, and several were not cooked enough. They were also almost too salty -all they way through to the tubers themselves. Maybe I would have been better to pick the cajun flavor, as this cup went in the trash still half full. read more

First and last time visiting this so called "business." We purchased some Burt's Bees products then got accused of stealing from an older lady at the register because we were looking for an unopened one as they are supposed to be sealed (she argued for us to take it up with Burt's Bees) even though they are the ones selling it. We politely gave the receipt (which is not itemized) and she continued to accuse us of stealing because her math was $0.90 off. She took our receipt and was following us to the next place saying we took things when we clearly had proof we did not. Perhaps the rudest and uncalled interaction I've experienced in awhile. We were going to get some food, but I'm sure we would have been accused of stealing that too. If you like to be harassed after purchasing their merchandise, then this is the best place to go! read more

The Tomato House is a neat little roadside store and vegetable stand. They have tons of gourd birdhouses, planter boxes, yard art, etc. They offer fresh veggies and fruit along with seasonal decor. Inside is quite crowded but interesting to look around. They have a HUGE selection of hot sauces, jams, jellies, relishes, and other jarred fruits and vegetables. My only concern was the canned goods looked old so I didn't feel comfortable in purchasing them. The same was true for many other items in the store. They just seemed awfully dusty, like they had been sitting on the shelf for years. My only other complaint was the smell. I am not sure what they were cooking in the back (perhaps frying pork skin?) but the smell was not pleasing. However, having said that, I like this place and there are treasures to be found there. read more

This is my favorite place to buy produce. Tons of local produce, the butchery has great quality meats (butcher boy is my favorite). My favorite thing though, is their wine selection. They have almost all of the local wineries wine. I buy all of my wine here vs. at the wineries. If you want high quality food, or a basket for pretty much anyone for their birthday, Christmas, etc... this is the place to go. read more

I am a local resident and choose to shop at the Tomato House for many of my fresh veggies and meats. They have a great selection of fresh meat and a butcher to cut exactly what you want. We accidentally came across the Tomato House when we were headed home from visiting North Georgia one day. They have a wonderful variety of goods and the majority of them are locally made or produced. I especially love their watermelon fudge - it is delicious! We drive up every couple of months to restock on sauces, jams, dressings, pickles, etc. Amazing assortment of pumpkins starting in mid September. Also have a larger store down the road with more gift shop things. Make sure your at the smaller house with produce. read more

Amazing regional varieties of almost anything you can put in a jar; BBQ and hot sauce (get your SEC college sauce for that next tailgate!), pickles, peppers, regional salad dressings, many flavors of cider, old time sodas . . . old time candy . . . fried pies . . . and of course, the produce.
