Easily one of the most popular spots on Vancouver Island…read more The sun peaked out in January and everyone and their mom visited Shirley Delicious Cafe. To be honest, I completely understand why. This cafe is a step above the rest. The inside is cozy, with a cabin-esque vibe and clear ceilings in their dining room for an indoor-outdoor feel. Despite the line of 20+ people, Shirley Delicious worked like a well oiled machine. Their menu included breakfast, lunch, and even a flight of soup (which I so desperately wanted). I ordered their date pastry, a hot caramel latte, and breakfast sandwich with avo. Each item was absolutely delicious. This is also a great location to shop for island goodies. Their storefront is filled with jams, sauces, metal working artwork, etc. Can't believe they can pack so much goodness into four little walls!

This was truly an amazing find! Tucked in the forest, this cafe is definitely delicious!…read more Definitely get here early as there could be a line out the door! We lucked out, thankfully. You order and pay first, then find a seat inside or outside. Ample seating options. For drinks, they'll call your name and you pick it up at the counter, while they will bring you your entrée. We came for breakfast, so I had a croissant BLT Harvati sandwich and a latte. My friend had a vegan wrap and a latte as well. The whole indoor feels like a greenhouse once before and transformed to indoor cafe. There are tons of metal welding artwork around and many little retail shopping corners inside. My croissant did not let me know, it was so delicious! They also have a small coffee/ice cream/grab-n-go trailer outside. Overall it's a nice place for breakfast or lunch! We tried coming back again, but the power went out so we weren't able to order anything AND have cash. Guess I'll have to come back to visit!

They used my favorite-beer batter which was perfect. We were disappointed with the fact that the fish wasn't from the area. Our server admitted this and that there was some regulation that didn't allow them to serve local fish. I wasn't sure exactly why. I had hoped for locally caught halibut or rockfish or something. But for fish brought in from the great unknown, it was good. My husband got creative and tried the Buffalo Cauliflower and Karaage Chicken. Both of them looked a little strange to me...The Buffalo Cauliflower was overly spicy hot. He didn't finish it. He liked the chicken better. A big shout-out to Camryn, our server. She was delightful! We really enjoyed talking to her. She was very personable and friendly. You'll be lucky if she's your server! The atmosphere in the pub was very nice. The prices were very reasonable!

Stopped in for lunch, greeted by original rustic decor, a friendly welcome by a amiable hostess…read more Ordered the Fish and Chips, and a Caesar Salad with Salmon. The salad was with ample salmon served. Salmon was a little on the dry side on the outside but still very palatable fillet in the inside. Fish Chips was great, the fish serving was a little on the small size but still in value range. Fries was cut from fresh potatoes and plenty, a nice coleslaw side. Service was great.

The house lemonade was also top tier, which I didn't expect but definitely appreciated. Service was quick, and everyone working there was genuinely friendly without it feeling forced. The interior is simple and delicate, which made it feel calm and comfortable. Breakfast itself is pretty straightforward, but honestly... breakfast is breakfast. It was exactly what I wanted in that moment, and the overall experience is what made it stand out. Would absolutely come back.

I've read the glowing reviews, and I'm offering a contrasting opinion…read more Today, I ordered a scramble made with egg whites and a Diet Pepsi (Diet Coke is unavailable here). They had to change the syrup for my soda, which took almost 15 minutes. When my soda arrived, it wasn't diet but the sugared version. No attempt made to fix this. When my meal arrived, the scramble ordered with egg whites only had bits of egg shell. I'm not sure how they got there, but it was I little like Russian Roulette as every third bit or so contained a tiny little egg shell piece. It was off putting. The potato hash accompanying the egg shell scramble was too greasy to have. Combine this food with a slightly combative server and you get a terrible and, in my case, unforgivable experience. Zero things went well and all of them went poorly. Breakfast for 2 was 60 bucks plus tip, and it's money I've invested in learning how much I do not care for Chestnut Cottage. 0/5, do not recommend
