This is a great place. They offer a discount card, but they will tell you if you don't need it (it's not a hard sell, in other words). For a while, I entertained the notion of taking my big grumpy cat out for walks. I looked at their harnesses and asked them, "What size would you recommend for a 20 lb. cat?" They said just bring him in and they'd do a fitting. I tried to explain that this cat is not going to put up with that, but they acted like it was no big deal. Very sweet. For a puppy with grain allergies, Tomlinson's is absolutely the only place to find food at a good price. With multiple brand options you're able to find at least a few flavors and a price that works for you. As a college student I can't exactly afford the sometimes jacked up prices of grain-free food at other major pet stores. Tomlinson's is a fantastic little pet feed store. They offer a discount club for a small annual fee, and it is completely worth it. All of their food seems to be great quality and they offer a lot of natural solutions. I buy a very specific brand of cat food that I've found to be cheaper at Tomlinson's than at Bark N Purr. The staff is friendly, and they have a really amazing cat that lives in the store. I do wish they had better hours, but I understand that they are locally owned and can't necessarily stay open as late as other stores. I completely recommend this store. read more

Me and my dog love this place! She loves the attention and the yummy treats the employees give her. The thing I like most about Tomlinson's is that they have a variety of mid to high quality kibble and lots of treat/food dispensing toys. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It also doesn't hurt that they have baskets of free dog/cat food sample scattered around the store (limit 2). Absolutely love the customer service. I'm not quite a regular but my mother and me have punches food and toys for our huskies. Corey, has great understanding on pet food. My mother who speaks predominately Spanish, her English isn't so great. However my mother has gone in and spoken to Corey regarding Zignature, with no problem and always talks about te great customer service. Very happy that my mom has a store that she feel comfortable and that the staff is always to friendly and patient. Had a great first experience here - young lady really took the time with me to discuss my dog's needs and my concerns, and made several great recommendations - including the tip that it would be fine to buy much cheaper canned pumpkin at the grocery store instead of from them. I found this place after we moved into town, because they are one of the few retailers that sell Honest Kitchen brand dog food. But honestly, I would probably shop here regardless, because every time I come in, the staff is so nice and friendly. It's also rarely busy, so it never takes longer than 5 minutes to get in and out. Great local pet store. I like to support the local businesses and this is one example of a great store to support in your community. The staff is already friendly and willing to assist. So, if you are a fan of the store why would you only give it three stores. In my mind, if I go back then I obviously like it, hence the 5 stars. Tomlinson's has a great selection of premium pet food! I love going here to buy dog food and treats for my food allergic-dog. Going through food elimination trials to figure out what exactly he's allergic to was a huge ordeal....and the selection at Tomlinson's helped me navigate through that rough patch. I'm especially a fan of their buffalo/bison knuckle bones and their selection of raw food. If you become a member, the food prices are also very comparable to the big retailers. The only downside to Tomlinson's is the limited selection and the relatively high prices of toys and other items. But to be fair, they are a feed store so I just go to Petco or Petsmart for toys, bedding, etc. Tomlinson's customer for life :) read more

Tomlinson's is an Austin gem for the pet owner. They have the best customer service of any pet store in town. As soon as I walk in the door I am always greeted and offered assistance. On my last visit I took in my dog who had just had his neuter surgery to buy a cone to go around his head to prevent licking of his incision. They helped as my dog tried on several cones to find the exact right size. Tomlinson's also has a great selection of fine quality dog toys that are not available at the big national stores. read more

Tomlinson's is a neat pet store. They have unique animal toys, food and products. Their bird room is fun to visit too. The prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for. I buy my bird food here because its fresh and I can buy it in any quantity I need. They offer the highest quality food for pets. I would actually give 4 1/2 stars, but that is not an option :) Really, this store is wonderful, and I am so glad we have this source of quality pet food in Austin - the chain stores just cannot compete in terms of selection and price. The only reason I would dock half a star is that there has been a lot of rearrangement in the store over the last year, year and a half, and it can be a little confusing to find what I want. That said, the selection remains outstanding, and I do like the new layout (read: please keep this one!). They did discontinue carrying my cat's favorite soft food flavor - not the brand, just the flavor - but they explained that it was slow selling, so I can't fault them for the fact that my cat just has unusual tastes ;) read more

I absolutely love this store and so does my dog! The staff here is incredibly helpful and I've never found myself in need of something that this shop doesn't have. They carry my dog's food, Acana, which is hard to find, as well as all her favorite treats. Additionally, I feel like I can trust the quality of the products that I buy at Tomlinson's, as they really put a lot of thought into the integrity of the products they carry. With their ever expanding list of locations, I'm lucky to have a Tomlinson's near me wherever I am. read more

This place has a great selection and friendly staff. The prices aren't always quite as low as at the 'big box' stores (though on some things they're lower!). The quality of products is universally awesome. They don't stock anything I would call 'crap.' The food is nice, the toys are awesome. They've got a lot of really nice Starmark puzzle toys, which my dog and I love. They also have an adorable parrot who beeps like the scanner for the till, which is hilarious. Their price on NuLo cat food actually beats a lot of the online pricing, especially if you have their membership. I LOVE their membership program. I save so much on my dog food and I love supporting a smaller business and a smaller chain than something like Petsmart. read more

I've been a customer at Tomlinson's for 20 years, and I'm pained to say I'm breaking up with them. I'm a bird person, and for 20 years, Tomlinson's has had great birds, great bird supplies, and most important, great bird people working there. In the past 2 years, they've changed: almost no birds, vastly reduced bird products, and no more bird people. Very disappointing. Whassup with that, Tomlinson's pet and BIRD store? Excellent pet store. This is my favorite location even though it's smaller and a little further from my house but I generally recommend Tomlinson's as a pet store. They have a great selection and well-informed employees that can be very helpful, I think they even get continuous training or something. There's a great loyalty program that includes discounts to make it more affordable and I like that they are supportive of and give-back to so many of the animal welfare groups and charities in the area. It's really popular these days to tout that a business is "local" but Tomlinson's really feels like it's part of the community and has been for a long time (I used to come to this location with my mom when I was in elementary school). Also they are very generous with their return policy and customer service in general. They were especially helpful this past spring when my dog developed pancreatitis and needed a whole diet over-haul, going over labels with me and helping me find supplements, appropriate new treats, etc. I had done a lot of research on my own and was very impressed with their knowledge base. They were also very kind and nice as I was pretty stressed out about my dog being sick and I appreciated that. read more

I really want to like this store since they are local. However, they stopped carrying our dog's formula of dry dog food. Mind you, they still carry the brand, just not the high energy formula that our very active dog requires. We've gone in on at least four different occassions letting them know that we really, really want to purchase our expensive dog food there, but it falls on deaf ears. They can special order it, but that will take a minimum of three days (frankly, I don't plan far enough in advance to keep enough food on hand to do that--plus who wants to make two trips to the store to order and pick up?) I mentioned to them that Petco always has the brand/formula and they are cheaper. But I've always ended with "WE WANT TO BUY IT FROM YOUR STORE". I went in over the weekend and decided that was my last time to try with them. read more

I stopped by today to get some dog food. The person who helped me (not sure of her name) was very helpful, and the store has a good variety of high quality foods and treats. The prices looked very reasonable to me, although it may vary by product. I bought a large bag of Acana grain-free dog food, and the price was much lower than what I've paid elsewhere. The treats I got seemed to be about on par with what I've seen elsewhere. Also, they have a membership plan where you pay a nominal annual fee and get 10% off everything. I've been a pet club member here for almost 5 years. For awhile, I had some concern about the staff - not all of them have been that friendly in the past and sometimes I felt more like they were doing me a favor by serving me when I came in rather than me being treated as one of their good, dedicated customers. However, over the last year or so (maybe a bit longer) I've seen great changes with the staff. They are so much more friendly. They are helpful. They are knowledgeable. And I love that when I bring my dogs in, they always come up to them and say hello. Not only that but I really love when they help me carry my purchased items to my car after I pay. This is so helpful when you have two dogs AND all their food/treats to manage. I'm definitely a fan. Their products are great. And if you happen to get a product that your animal doesn't love, they will exchange the product for you - no questions asked, no judgement made. Thanks Thomlinson's!
