Absolutely love this clinic, we have been coming here for years since moving to Austin. We see Dr. Hardy and she is wonderful. Very informative and kind. We recommended everyone to this clinic and my mom takes her dogs here as well. My only complaint would be the new front desk person I think her name is Kayla. It has been an awful experience trying to schedule anything with her. She has told me wrong information multiple times in regard to schedule appointments even when I asked her if she was sure cuz the info didn't sound right. It has been incredibly frustrating working with her. I wouldn't trust information coming from her and will be asking to speak to someone besides her from now on. This is my new go-to clinic. Both times I have needed urgent care for my babies, they have scheduled me same day for an appointment and it's been easy. My first appointment was after another vet clinic (looking at you ZippiVet North) cancelled an urgent appointment less than 30 minutes (8:06 am and the appointment was for 8:30 am) before the appointment times over a TEXT. Nothing told me they didn't care about my pets more than the fact that they didn't even have the decency to call or try to reschedule. I was frantic and floundering because Xander was having serious breathing issues and I'd taken off the morning to take him to the appointment. Thankfully when I called this vet, they understood my concerns and got me in around 10:30 for the first available appointment. Xander was having an allergic reaction (and couldn't even meow as a result!) to something and they got him all taken care of quickly and in a way that made me feel they cared. Our next visit was when my little one's eye swelled up and I was concerned it would become worse if left untreated. Again, I called and got an appointment for the same day (3:00 pm this time). We showed up and we're immediately provided a room. She was tested, diagnosed, and promptly received antibiotics for her and a cone to prevent further agitating it. They provided clear instructions and demonstrated how to apply the medication to her eye. Both times, I have experienced friendly and competent vets who made me feel at ease with their knowledge, professionalism, and compassion for my kitties! I'm happy to visit again and know that we're in good hands, even though it's not Allstate. Cost wise, it's pretty average for Austin and I believe I've paid around $150 at both visits including all the tests, bloodwork, medications, etc. read more

Having three different dogs with their own set of issues can be costly! Fortunately, ATX Animal Clinic is one of the few animal clinics in Austin who accepts Care Credit. In addition, for those who are looking for a clinic that allows pet parents to accompany their fur babies, ATX Animal Clinic is offering in-clinic (traditional) or curb side drop off (how most clinics are running during covid). We've seen both Dr. Rob & Dr. Hardy, Dr. Rob is our go-to vet. Dr. Rob is incredibly knowledgable and doesn't try to sell you on something you don't need. We've asked for his advice and have received consultations on multiple occasions for our kids (ie: pink eye, gingivitis/teeth cleaning, diarrhea) and he's always given us exactly what we need. He demonstrates how to use medications, and takes the time to make sure all of your questions are answered. Prices are a bit costly compared to other vets we've been to. An initial examination costs $60, compared to the average $45. Follow-ups are $30/visit, while a rabies vaccination is almost $40, compared to the average $22. ATX Animal Clinic's a terrific practice that me and my best couch-dwelling quadruped buddy really appreciate and look forward to returning to -- everyone from scheduling over the phone, reception at arrival, the wonderful vet tech, and especially Dr. Rob were PAWSOME! We went to ATX Animal Clinic, admittedly because we had a bit of a ruff experience with our (other) long-time vet practice in the days prior that left me unsettled to the extent that I needed a reset and/or second opinion -- which felt daunting in itself at first. I could whole-heartedly say to the credit of ATX, we felt in great hands from the first phone call through the entirety of the office visit. Everyone at ATX was extremely patient in processing the context behind the reason for our visit, while also understanding without judgment but a genuine sense of empathy. With that, the perspective was always constructive and pragmatic, but relatable and personable to help me learn and understand the "whys" and "hows", etc. I felt really confident everyone genuinely understood the sentiment of my priorities -- above all, with respect for care that's reasonably pragmatic and weighs risk/reward, urgency, etc. Dr. Rob's a really cool dude, we both enjoyed meeting him, and are very appreciative for his time. He was really patient, informative, friendly, and thorough (while my focus was primarily on the main issue for our visit, his approach was holistic both by way of our previous records and his first hand assessment). I've been reluctant to give a review of ATX Animal Clinic for selfish reasons. If too many people find out how great this place is, it will be impossible to get an appointment there. I've tried at least 5 vets in Travis and Williamson county. This one is far better than any of them. The staff seems to be taken care of well. Everyone is helpful and even jovial. The Doctors are great. Dr Rob is cool as hell. Everyone is cool. My experiences with them have been one of a kind and I appreciate them a lot. So, don't go to this clinic! I brought my girl in due to a lump on her and unfortunately found that it posed a serious danger. As she had just turned 17, surgery was not an option so I made the difficult decision to make a follow-up appointment a few days later to put her down. During the appointment, Dr Rob and the staff were so compassionate and empathetic, explaining each step and giving us as much time as we needed. Afterwards they offered hugs and even sent a heartfelt card. They have been there through thick and thin throughout the years, but showing that extra kindness at the end meant the world. My 10 lb dog needed dental cleaning and teeth extractions. We got consultations at two different places and both gave us inconsistent answers and we didn't feel confident in their practice. Third time is a charm. As soon as we went in we felt welcomed. The consultation was thorough, helpful and unlike other ones, we were part of the discussions and knew all the options. Their price ended up being roughly similar to the other places, but this time, I felt much more confident in the doctor and his staff. The office staff and other techs were super nice but the highest ranking medical officer who evaluated my dog rushed me out, seemed irritated, and wouldn't answer basic questions like "how do his teeth look?" because "he wouldn't let me look at them" even though my dog is extra friendly but was just a little hyper. He's 7 years old and I've never had another vet not be able to look into his mouth. I took him to his previous vet right before we moved so it had been a year since his last check up. Therefore, I had a list of questions but not an unreasonably long one. I chose this place based on the reviews so they probably have some good/great vets here, but you shouldn't have to request a specific person to get friendly, complete, competent service. And what does it say about management/ownership if they hire even one person like this? I'm one of the horde of people who's new to town so I was looking for a long term medical provider. First and last visit, I'll try somewhere else next time he needs to be seen. read more

EDIT/UPDATE: I am honestly shocked at the dangerous lack of responsibility and professionalism in Dr Rob's response. I outlined some very clear issues with standard of care, most veterinarians would work to change their protocol to reduce patient risk. Instead, Dr Rob just went into attack mode. Most of my concerns were not addressed including: 1.) Lack of a post sedation protocol- my unconscious animal was not monitored by veterinary professionals post sedation instead given to me still sedated and unresponsive, I have gone over this incident with 3 separate veterinarians who all agreed this lack of professional monitoring posed a serious risk to my cat's health, especially since my cat was not fasted prior to sedation and could have vomited and aspirated upon recovery. 2.) Denying risk of aspiration pneumonia: This is a huge red flag. If you read Plumbs, the veterinary pharmacy manual, it clearly states that field studies show that 57%-68% of cats on Dexdomitor (the sedation used in my cat) experienced vomiting. So to deny the risk you took when you placed my unfasted cat under sedation is not only irresponsible but also unscientific. It also shows the callous attitude you have towards patient health. The fact that you do not ask patients their fasted status prior to sedation because in your eyes the "risk for vomiting is low" is serious medical negligence. I brought up legitimate medical concerns, and rather than recognizing the gaps in his standard of care, Dr Rob instead insulted me and treated me with aggression. Looking through other reviews this seems to be a trend for Dr Rob. Most good reviews are from when the clinic had a previous owner. Dr Rob's response is not only unprofessional, it is dangerous. Good, competent doctors will learn from their mistakes and adjust their protocols for patient safety. Not let their egos get in the way of their patients health. -------- I was conflicted writing this review because I know the veterinary field is tough, having a family member who is one, but this clinic's standard of care was so low that I feel I have to warn others. I came in with my cat who had been sneezing a lot and lethargic. The vet said she seemed fine. I asked if there was any explanation to the sneezing and if we could do blood work/x-rays to check there isn't anything viral. She said "well most cats have viral issues,but there isn't anything you can do and no point finding out." I asked about the possibility of asthma and then she said "maybe" and consented to x Ray/blood work. I was already a little frustrated that I had to ask 3 times to do basic screening on my 7 year old cat. In the end it was good I went with my gut because the results showed my cat had asthma. Soon after taking my cat, this vet popped in and told me they had to sedate my cat. The vet didn't expand on this or educate me as to what this would entail. I trusted her and agreed to it not knowing how invasive it was, not until POST Sedated Xrays when they brought me my still unconscious cat did they give me a SEDATION WAIVER. On this waiver it asked when my cats last meal was, medications, and a list of precautions that have to be taken BEFORE sedation. Had my cat eaten a meal prior to coming in, she could have vomited under sedation and suffered from aspiration pneumonia which can be fatal. When I asked the technician about this after she told me they had forgotten about the waiver. On top of this, there was no post sedation monitoring of my pet after. My unconscious cat was left with me in the room and the tech would pop in every now and then and say "Oh good, she is still breathing" and then LEAVE. I was shocked by how irresponsible this was as I have no medical background so if my cat had a bad reaction or stopped breathing I wouldn't have known what to do. The doctor called me on the phone and briefly gave opinions about the test results which indicated my cat had asthma, but she spent most of call making excuses for not having good sedation protocol. She claims that she got my "verbal consent" and that given that this was time sensitive she didn't go through the whole procedure (aka. handing me a paper or at least asking me if my pet had eaten). Also per this vet's own recommendation we didn't need to do X-rays or bloodwork and really we were doing this out of caution so I am not sure how this was time sensitive. While my pet thankfully survived this experience I can't say that others would have. read more

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for loving Frankenstein for the short time y'all knew her. We had a long year and a half with her, between the dental abscess to bowel movement issues, we were grateful for ATX animal clinic. Today we went in not expecting/kind of expecting end of life talk for our senior cat. The amount of compassion can not be compared, everyone was extremely sympathetic, patient, and somber. When Dr Rob confirmed Frankie no longer had a quality of life, we comfortably made the decision to let her cross over. Everyone offered us support, hugs, and condolences, which meant the world to us. Frankie was a special girl and we are so glad we had her for the amount of time we did, we will continue to use ATX animal clinic because of how kind and down to earth the staff is, we even got in some jokes together today (which before anyone gets mad WE made first because that's how we cope especially because I'm a former vet tech) thank you all, expect a cookie delivery soon, as a token of our appreciation for helping our family out and giving ms Frankie the best end of life care. read more

Receptionist, Katie adamantly told me it was the Law that the vet see my dog within 365 days in order to refill flea med & heart guard via 1800petmeds. Tech, Chris called me back also stating it was the Law. It seemed odd that this was the law and after some questioning Chris called back stating the vet was backing them. Using the "law" for your reasoning is Dishonest & Unethical. Texas Administrative Code RULE §573.41 (a) It is unprofessional conduct for a licensed veterinarian to prescribe, administer, dispense, deliver, or order delivered any prescription drug without first having established a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. (No mention of days, months or years). I spoke to enforcement at the Texas Veterinary Board. They confirmed it is Not the law, nor should they be saying it is. It is only a recommendation AND the vet can renew the meds without an office visit if they want. At the time it had been 13 months since my healthy dog had been in for a check up. Just be honest guys! Important to note. Lots & lots of 5 star reviews on here are for the previous vet/owner...those about "over 4 years ago to over 8 years ago". It's been over a week since we lost our beloved dog, Latte. I called ATX one afternoon to make an appointment for Latte to be seen. He didn't eat or drink for 2+ consecutive days prior. ATX had an availability the next day and I kindly accepted that appointment. A few minutes later, they called me back to tell me they had an opening that afternoon. I felt relieved but part of me knew this was the day I refused to accept my time with my dog has come to an end. Dr. Rob was professional yet sensitive with us as we tried to understand the illnesses Latte had. Dr. Rob had to explain Latte's illnesses more than once. I mean, how could we focus with tears running down our faces? I couldn't accept that this was the unselfish thing to do to let Latte go. I wanted to fight for him. I still wonder if I fought enough for him? But Dr. Rob assured us Latte's body has lost the fight. He was in pain. Dr. Rob gave us well over 20 minutes to discuss as a family as we bear the thought that euthanasia was the best and the ethical choice to make. Please let it be known, Dr. Rob did not pressure us into making this decision. He was readily available to assess in whatever choice we made that day. With so many tears and heartbreak, we chose to let Latte go. It was one of the hardest things to do in my life. But the ATX clinic made sure Latte was comfortable as we held our dog so tight and watched him take his final breath. They say that dogs are your best friends. They are. They say dogs give unconditional love, a love that's transcendent. They do. Latte was my bud, he was the goodest boy, and he gave us unconditional love. We miss him terribly. ATX's compassion goes without saying. Sending us a small handwritten card for our loss was the kindest gesture. It goes to say they care for our furry companions. And they love what they do. I have been coming here for my pet's care for 6 years. Previously was seeing Dr.Harris and then I started seeing Dr. Rob when Dr. Harris retired. We just recently moved to the area about 6 months ago and wanted to bring my cat Louie here because of the reviews. I've brought him in before and have had okay experiences. Yesterday, I brought him in because he had three episodes over the week where he was in pain, and it seemed like his back leg was cramping. I wasn't sure if it was a cramp or a nail problem (one of his nails looked split, but the vet said it was fine). She suspected that he may have pulled a muscle and wanted to trail him on transdermal Zorbium for the weekend to see if that helped and stopped the episodes. I am extremely upset at the lack of education that was given. Whenever I administer any medication to my patients I always provide thorough, comprehensive education over the drug they are receiving. I thought that translated into the veterinary world but apparently not, at least here. The vet gave no education period other than it was transdermal and would last 72 hours. The vet techs then came in and administered and I had to be the one to ask the questions. No one, not one single person involved in Louie's care, mentioned the adverse effects that could come with this drug. Shame on me for not advocating more for him. I am now at the emergency vet with Louie because he has not used the restroom in over 24 hours (urinating) and has very poor PO intake - has been extremely restless and has not slept. I have been reviewing articles on google from vet clinics with information over this drug, and it seems like these side effects can be common (restlessness, agitation, dilated pupils). If I would've been presented with this information, I would have never wanted to choose this as an option for my sweet baby. I don't know if the vet just assumed that me and my partner would not be able to comprehend the information (we are both working professionals) or if she just didn't care. I will not be returning to this clinic during the rest of my time in Austin. read more

Our dog Penny has been to ATX Animal Clinic a few times throughout the past year or so for check-ups and a torn ACL. Dr. Rob takes time to listen to your concerns and is super knowledgeable. The front staff is prompt, friendly and helpful. They don't push procedures but rather educate you on options and let you choose without judgement. Penny has been to many veterinarian offices throughout her lifetime due to us moving, and each time she would be anxious and tired afterward. Not with ATX! We've taken our pets to ATX Animal Clinic for a few years now. We loved Dr. Harris and were sad when he retired. Dr. Robert is also an excellent vet. Like Dr. Harris, Dr. Robert doesn't insist on expensive, unnecessary tests before making a diagnosis. For example, our mini dachshund had an eye problem that Dr. Robert thought could be caused by a tumor. He examined a fluid sample and made a tentative diagnosis. For confirmation, he sent the sample to a vet friend who is an expert in the condition instead of to a costly outside lab. It turned out not to be a tumor (yet), and her eye is doing well on the medication recommended by Dr. Robert. Each member of the clinic staff is helpful, friendly, and a pleasure to deal with. I didn't have a chance to write a review after the short relationship I had with ATX Animal Clinic. We had recently made the move down from NYC, and had not received an official diagnosis for my 17 year old cat baby (except for a $3000 bill). The files transferred (more like low-light photos) were so poor and complete chicken scratch, so I'm pretty sure ATX couldn't even find a single clue except through the lab work. They graciously handled my aggressive (and hurting) cat (she did have to be sedated, gently of course), and ran labs. Gave me options, diet change options, SubQ fluids, needles, and OPTIONS (again, options!) on where I can get these cheaper so I don't have to go through them all the time. Did I mention I don't like putting needles in others? eek. They were very patient showing me how to do it (she still didn't like it, but I ended up rigging a couple velcro straps and feeding her some treats so she didn't jump everywhere). I couldn't believe the bill was so low. I felt bad it was so low that I bought extra food from them. I'm pretty sure it was under $200. We kept waiting for a surprise bill over the next weeks. Well, life happens, and she got some weird bump under her jaw that grew exponentially over a day. They got me in quick (despite Covid), and were very honest. You can't really remove a jaw bone cancer, and I truly appreciated the straightness, which is what I told them I wanted. I want kitty happy first, with a good quality of life. We scheduled her appointment to say goodbye the next morning, but forgot that she probably would like to enjoy the sun at that time so I pushed it back to close to closing time. Again, extremely gracious of them (front desk is always so kind and courteous, thank you). They waited until my husband finished work so he could say goodbye as well. They actually do give the option to administer in your presence. I guess the only thing that made me a little uncomfortable was a vet tech (Is that the proper term?) that I hadn't seen before was a little curt and rough; my cat was returned to me in a gruff manner, she was also placed in a very uncomfortable position back in her carrier with her front arms extended straight under her body. I know she's aggressive, and the other techs hadn't done that before, so maybe she was just tired of her job and used to being short and efficient. I just wished she would have maybe done that on a normal check up instead of her death check up. They took two paw prints (one was a little messy in a cute way), which my toddler held for weeks after and kissed repeatedly. I'm glad they gave two because the one he was holding is pretty crumpled. ATX even sent a card via mail. Very sweet of them, and the little gesture meant a lot. They were also very sweet to other dogs and cats coming in and out. During Covid, it was obviously very well sanitized in between each patient, including the lobby. The design of the building seems to make it easy to actually air out, so it was pretty comfortable being there as someone who takes immunosuppressants and having a toddler. read more

I almost don't want to leave a review since I can always get quick appointments and if people knew how amazing this place is, that could change, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Friendly staff who remember my pets and genuinely care about their patients. Prices are fair and reasonable with no surprises. All the vets I've seen over the years take their time with me and my cats and dogs to make sure we are comfortable and understand everything that is happening.
