Been here many times. Just a breakfast place in a bad part of town. Our server was not great. Very short with us. Coffee was the worst I've ever had.... It was so weak we thought we were drinking tea. The meal was just ok. Too many really good breakfast places to choose from that I won't need to drive across town anymore. It's more a neighborhood place. They are very friendly to those they know. Waited forever to get our bill that's how much we were ignored. Let's just say that if you come to Columbus you must give Tommy's Diner a try. It's the nostalgia for us. My husband decided this is where we will go to for some coffee and breakfast. The place is so cute. I love about it. I had a ham and cheese omelet and my husband got the hotcakes with bacon. The coffee was flowing. Our server was awesome. She made sure our cups stayed full. My only issue was my toast was cold with the butter on it. But it was still edible. And my husband did not care for the hotcakes. There was something about the texture that did not sit well with him. So he ate my toast. Overall it was ok. We will go back I am sure. There are definitely more pluses than minuses. read more

First time in Columbus Ohio on my way from Cedar Point to Kings Island made a pit stop in Columbus Ohio looking for a good place to eat. I heard great reviews about this place and I loved every minute of Tommy's Diner. It's like going back to the 1950s. I had the Franklinton Burger with fries mixed with curly fries and a root beer float. Not only the food was great but the waitress Roxy was amazing she is such a sweetheart and knows how to make everyone feel like thier at home. Saw this place in Triple D, so I had to give it a try. The Greek lasagne they had in the show was not available, but the baklava cheesecake was. They also had an Italian beef as a special, and as a Chicago guy, I was really looking forward to it. Well, apparently Tommy's never been to Chicago. Don't get me wrong, it was a tasty sandwich, but not at all what a Chicago Italian beef is. Shredded beef rather than sliced, banana peppers rather than giardiniera, had cheese rather than as jus, and the bread was a pressed sandwich rather like a Cuban rather than an Italian roll. Came with fries that were nothing special, like you would get from Orida in the frozen section of the supermarket. We also had the turkey club, which was very well done on 3 layers, and their sweet potato fries which were outstanding. Then there was the baklava cheesecake. Holy moly was that good! Worth the price of admission. Came in on a Wednesday at 1:00 and the place was packed. Sat at the bar, which surprisingly had enough leg room for my 6'6" frame. Waitress was fast and friendly. It appeared everyone on the staff was enjoying their job, which is a big deal to me in this piss poor age of customer service. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken salad which was listed on the special board. It was amazing! The chicken was crispy, tender, and steaming hot. It was also a generous portion of chicken. This salad puts the same named salad from O'Charley's to shame. My husband enjoyed his omelette. Our server was attentive to all of our dining needs. Counters and booths, walls covered in decades of memorabilia. Busy diner atmosphere, lots of activity and talking. A beautiful spring day led me to have a club sandwich, fries and a Coke. Traveling for a celiac can be a challenge but Tommy's had great reviews in "find me gluten free". The place was "packed" which is a good sign of quality food. Charming and old school. Staff knew how to hustle, server was fast, friendly and knowledgeable. Established protocols to avoid cross contamination which for a celiac is very important. Bottom Line: A must experience if you visit Columbus. We definitely will be back on our next trip. read more

This isn't going to be a helpful review of the food but I can tell you that diners are supposed to open at 5 AM or 6 AM. They open up at 6:30. I waited for half an hour with a half a dozen other people was the first one in the door waited a solid five minutes didn't get an acknowledgment, a menu, a glass of water or even a good morning. It looked like the staff didn't wanna be there and it looked like the place is really going downhill since the last time I was there, it's really disappointing. The inside reminds you of a retro diner, which you don't get to see much in Columbus so it's appreciated. Service is normally chill and quick without them bothering you too much. I lived in Columbus for twenty years and would drive by Tommy's Diner and think I should try that sometime. Last week I was visiting some friends in Cols. and they mentioned they had been there. We went back and had breakfast. It was such an enjoyable experience. Not a very big place but the inside is lined with all kinds of photos and travel stuff on the walls. I spent a short time just looking around. The menu had everything from breakfast, sandwiches and dinners available. The prices are very reasonable and the service was outstanding. Tommy's Diner has been featured on Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives. Also they have been voted best roadside diner by USA Today magazine. I can't begin to say enough good about this place. read more

I typically do a search online to seek out the best this or that and my sister was coming to visit so I wanted to know the best diner in Columbus, and Tommy's popped up. I was really excited to dine here. I know this is a Columbus staple and I've heard other people talk about it. It's a quirky little place. The decor is nice and what I've come to expect from mom and pop eateries. Unfortunately that's about where the experience end. Our server was a young lady. She didn't tell us what her name was. She was a little bit rude and offputting, but being it was a birthday celebration my sister and I decided to make the best of it. I asked the girl what the diner was known for and she said she didn't know but she would ask. I don't think she actually asked anybody because she never disclosed or suggested any particular meal that we should try. I opted for the Belgian waffle aside of bacon and a scrambled egg and my sister got the French toast aside of bacon and scrambled egg. I will admit that the Belgian waffle was was fluffy and had a decent texture. The bacon was not cooked enough to my liking, and it had an off taste to it. Nonetheless, the dining experience wasn't as pleasant as I was hoping for it to be neither our meals were photo worthy, which was very disappointing as always please visit your local dining areas and support small business. One thing is always look to see if anywhere has been of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. BANGGG QUITE a few stand outs here: 1.) The country fried steak. Not just coated in a flour and fried. The breading was seasoned unbelievably well and the steak wasn't just a thin pounded cut to where you only get breading 2.) The gravy. Best gravy I've ever had. 3.) The biscuits. PHENOMENAL crunch on the outside and still moist in the middle. 4.) The Hollandaise sauce. Also best I've ever had. Beyond creamy with a slight extra vinegar taste to it 5.) Baklava cheesecake. Need I say more. The inside was set up like a 60s diner and awesome. It was 12:30 when we got there. Able to be seated but still packed. Our waitress was fucking awesome. Service was fast, and our server was great, so I had high hopes (The lovely server is the reason why I am not giving 1 star) But the food? Absolutely terrible. I genuinely wish we'd just gone to Subway. We both ordered omelets - I got bacon and cheese, my husband got ham and cheese. He had the potatoes and toast, and I went with the beef veggie soup. First off, have you ever seen an omelet without cheese inside? They just threw the cheese on top, leaving the inside dry and lifeless. My bacon was overcooked and so crispy it felt like chewing on bark, with zero flavor. His potatoes were borderline burnt, and as for the soup... I bet the hospital soups are way better. I don't get it. How does a place this busy serve food this bad? It honestly made me wonder if the Columbus food scene is that bleak, or if we just hit a really off day. This was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time, and I regret wasting my time and money here. Oh well, they can't all be winners. read more

Its a bit further from the main hubbub of Columbus, a little east in Franklinton but has parking and great food and ambiance. Once you walk in you get that old school diner feel with memorabilia all over and red leather seating. I came here early morning, like 6AM, and it definitely does fill up as it gets later though. I ordered country fried steak cause my southern self needed fried foods and gravy. Food was great and prices were fair for the amount of food given. The staff were all very nice and came by to check if we needed refills of our coffee. Overall, definitely a great place for a chill lowkey breakfast! read more

I always get the eggs benedict when I'm here and it never disappoints! Free refills on coffee, fair prices and the wait to be seated is never long regardless of how busy they stay. The menu is actually quite large and in addition, they have specials posted on the wall in case you'd like something with a little more zest! Haven't been since I was a kid and loved it then! I decided to order breakfast while in town. It has been a decade. Used to go after church every Sunday with my grandma Marge who was a long time regular. I was blown away with how flavorful and presentable my dish came in a take away box. Once I dug in I quickly realized this might be the best eggs Benedict I've ever had! That is an honest opinion and makes great since why the community loves this place! So sad to hear of Tommy's passing in recent years but so happy Tommy's people are keeping up beautiful like he would appreciate.
