I came in town for work and my local coworkers raved about Cap City. We arrived for our reservation and were quickly seated. Our waitress came by and was quick and attentive for such a large party of 12. I was told the portions were large and they did not disppoint. I ordered the Cap City Meatloaf which came with garlic bread, mashed potatoes and broccoli. The meatloaf is a really good hearty portion. When I saw it I was surprised. It was a tad bit on the cold side so I was a little disappointed. The broccoli was fresh and steamed. The mashed potatoes were absolutely DELICIOUS!! This place is sooo good! We came in and it was busy so we decided to opt in for the bar area. We were greeted right away and provided drinks. We ordered the blue cheese chips and I ordered the meatloaf which seemed like everyone was ordering. The blue cheese chips came with fresh potato chips, topped with massive amounts of Alfredo sauce and blue cheese. Topped with fresh chives. I will definitely be ordering it every time. The meatloaf was massive. I tried the meatloaf alone at first. It had good flavor but was a little dry. Eating the meatloaf with the rest of the dish was the perfect balance. Ate at Cap City Olentangy Road last night. I always get their meatloaf.I do not like mushrooms but usually they are ground up so fine in the meatloaf that you cannot taste them. But last night there was actual slices and big pieces of mushrooms in the meatloaf instead of being finely ground up. I had not eaten at this Cap City location in years and I recently found the food here to have sadly gone downhill. The atmosphere and service are still fine. I ordered a margarita and was told they no longer carry Patron tequila. Strike one. The margarita they served me was lime green. It looked, and kind of tasted, like battery acid. Meatloaf entree was described on the menu as being served with "mushrooms, broccoli, and chili onion rings." I was staying at the Aloft, which was a quick 2 minute walk door-to-door from the hotel to Cap City Fine Diner and Bar. I arrived around 7pm on a Tuesday night. I was surprised to find how packed the place was! There were no available tables at the time, so I decided to take a chance on a seat at the bar. I managed to snag one of the limited seats, but the bar was pretty busy too. Service was OK. My food came out in a timely manner, but it was hard to catch a bartender's attention. That said, they were nice and friendly when I was able to make eye contact. The food at Cap City was like a cross between a diner and a pub. They offered everything like a diner (sandwiches, burgers, meatloaf, fish & chips, etc.) but elevated the dishes like a gastropub. I was going to settle on the chicken Romano, but the guest sitting next to me sold me on the Tuesday special: chicken pot pie. I guess the daily specials are the way to go, because I really enjoyed my entree. Cap City Diner: A Solid Comfort Food Meal I finally got around to trying the famous meatloaf at Cap City Diner. I opted for the Meatloaf Melt, and it was exactly the kind of hearty, satisfying meal I was hoping for. The meatloaf, which is what they're known for, was served on Texas toast and covered with plenty of melted Swiss cheese. The addition of onions and pickles cut through the richness nicely. It was genuinely delicious--a perfect comfort food sandwich. For the side, I chose the sweet potato fries. They were thin-cut, perfectly crispy, and tasted great. They made for a light, flavorful counterpart to the melt. I finished the meal with a slice of the 24K Carrot Cake. It was a robust cake, absolutely packed with good mix-ins like pineapple, walnuts, and golden raisins. The flavor was fantastic, but be warned, the cream cheese frosting is on the extremely thick side. It's almost a layer of its own! Overall, this was a fantastic, straightforward meal. Highly recommend the meatloaf and the sweet potato fries. Far as the ambience it was low lid but not dark, and although busy the noise level was low enough that you could carry on a conversation without having to raise your voice. We went to Cap City after moving in my sister to Ohio State! There was a good crowd at the time but still plenty of room for us! Visited tonight with my mom, wife, and brother for an early Mother's Day . We have been here (& the Dublin location) many times over the years and I've often gotten the veggie plate, so I'm pretty familiar with it but tonight was disappointed the plate barely had any hummus , pretty much the only source of protein nowadays (I think years ago there was some nuts in there somewhere). So, my first impression of Cap City Fine Diner and Bar is that it looks like a 1950's swanky diner. The dress code is casual. I love a good, Ole fashioned diner! During this visit, I ordered the triple-decker grilled cheese. I was very excited to try this grilled cheese sandwich. 4 cheese blends, oven roasted tomatoes, and bacon on texas toast. It was delish! I was shocked when my nephew who has lived in town for a couple years reached out and suggested that hubby and I meet him and his GF for dinner. I figured there was an ulterior motive as he's too young to take money from a trust and I'm the trustee. Regardless, I wanted to encourage this new relationship as I otherwise would only see him at family functions. He lives over UA and we are eastside near Easton. We like to eat early and I had a feeling that they would want later - given their job schedules. We landed on a Wednesday to meet up and I offered to go to their side of town - hoping for an earlier start time. I looked for restaurants and read a list off to hubby - but none of them were of interest to him. So I looked to nephew to decide. He suggested Cap City on Olentangy and I said fine. I had not been to this location in at least one - more likely two - decades. We had been to the Gahanna Cap City as it's very close to us. Nephew offered to make a reservation which was a nice thing to do. I like that reservations were possible as I really hate to wait to be seated - not that it was likely on a Wednesday night at 6:30. We were seated right away after finding parking in a somewhat confusing parking lot - it seems to share space with a long-term hotel. Anyways, the waitress greeted us right away which is a good thing. We've been ignored all too often. We ordered water as I didn't want a diet cola and caffeine so "late." Understand, I go to bed at 8:30 PM and get up bright and early. Nephew and GF got there pretty soon and their drink orders were taken. We took a minute to look over the menu - which I had already done online. Normally, I get a salad entree. However, I've recently pivoted to soup if I don't want a full meal. The steak and bean chili looked good - so I ordered it. Hubby was shocked as he hadn't encountered this new me. He got a spicy chicken sandwich. And I honestly forget what the other 2 got. It seemed pretty quick that our orders came out - but we had been talking and were in no hurry. We all dug in. My chili had a lot of steak and beans - nice and thick. However, it was only luke warm, but I didn't want to complain. It was fine for me to eat. I'm a slow eater and I didn't want to have people wait while it was heated - or wait even longer after they were done. As I turns out - they still had to wait on me to finish my chili as they ate their complete meals before I was done. And I wasn't a big talker - that didn't slow me down. I guess I just eat slow. Hubby enjoyed his meal but said it could have been spicier. The GF took home some of her leftovers so it was clearly good. And nephew ate every bit of his food. This was an excellent choice for our gathering. I was shocked when we had paid our checks and were walking out the door at 7:15 - which made me incredibly happy. I also think my hubby has a much better opinion of Cap City now. When I had suggested it - he had said NO - that it wasn't that good.
