Travelling back to Chicago from Spring Break in Florida. We were looking for a local breakfast joint not too far off the highway that wasn't named Cracker Barrel or Waffle House. Glad we did. Had a great donut and dining adventure at Tommy's! Made an impromptu stop traveling south to Florida and was not disappointed. Tommy's has a fantastic 1/2 pound burger, but more importantly the most amazing maple bacon donut EVER, which was eaten later in the day and would have been phenomenal first thing in the morning. The maple was thick like icing and the bacon was candied and smoked. Both unique and delicious. Definitely a candidate for Donut Explorers 2019 Donut-of-the-Year! Tommy's food is very good. I especially love their toasted almond chicken salad. Their donuts are also really good and their Macon Burger Week burger was amazing. However, nothing about to Tommy's is "easy" for the patron. And if you're an introvert, you're sure to feel anxiety here. The menus are essentially hidden by the register, so you can't even begin to figure out what you want until you are at the register. I either feel rushed to decide when I get to the front, or I have to bother others by cutting in front to grab a menu. Why not put them by the door, or near where the line usually starts? They don't put prices on the items in their refrigerator cases. Instead, I believe there is a master list of prices but last time I was there I couldn't find it, so I opted to not get anything. My other option would be to get something out, wait in line, ask the person at the register, and then if the price didn't fit in my budget I'd have to cut through the line to put it back. Awkward. If you're coming for donuts, just hope that it's not too busy. When there is a wait, patrons tend to stand in front of the display case (because there is no other place to stand near the front without being in the way of the staff). Because people are standing in front of the display case, it's difficult to see which donut you want without asking people to move - another way I feel like I'm troubling those around me by needing basic stuff (like seeing their donut options). They have entirely too many large tables, and not enough small tables. This is a cafe and donut shop. It's not a family-style dinner spot. I recommend replacing those large tables with 2-tops that you can push together if needed. Last time I had to eat standing up. I'm a huge supporter of local business (we almost never eat at chains). However, I'd hope that those businesses would in turn give their best. A few minor organization changes would make this place shine (even more than it already is). read more

Fresh off the road from a motorcycle road trip I was greeted with great customer at the register. We, the person traveling with me, asked a few questions about items on the menu and landed our decision on the Big Bubba burger. In addition I got a maple bacon donut. The wait time for my food was less than 10 min from order to the table. When the food arrived it was hot! The burger was delicious and remained hot from the time I got it until the time I finished it. I also had the potato salad (home made) and it as well was damn good. The owner, Tommy, was present in the shop and spoke to us and although he's of tall stature he was extremely polite and courteous. All-in-all I enjoyed my meal, the atmosphere and the customer service. If ever in Macon again, this is the spot to eat. read more

Came in here on national donut day. Around lunch time you'd think there would be a crowd... but I was the only one there at the time. Walked in, was not greeted, walked to the counter to look at what they had... still not greeted. After about a minute of being in the store i was asked if i knew what i wanted. Hello to you too! Told her it was my first time there... usually people would say welcome and suggest different things to new customers. Nope. I go ahead and decided to order a few donuts anyways and take them hope for my wife and I to enjoy. Being donut day, we recieved one for free, which I thought was nice. The donuts were just okay. Nothing to really rave about. I'm hoping the service changes a bit because I was really turned off by it. However, I will come back to try the other pastries they had. read more

The black woman they have up front should be in the back. She was very quick to tell out she was the General Manager and how things have always been which is a lie. I've visited this restaurant quite frequently whenever I pass through and never saw her, maybe that was a good thing. She made she avoided the counter after being smart with me and when I said I was ready to order she yells out "I'm waiting for you"! Let me start with their location...very convenient just off from I-475 exit 5 not even a mile away from the exit. Service is good but can be a lot better...it seems like its the cashier's first day...not so familiar yet with the menu...the table need some wipping...there's still crumbs and cups left on it. Speaking of coffee cups..there's mugs on the wall but they give your coffee in a disposable cups even when you sit and eat there. Now the food...its good the only thing is I got mine cold. So when Tommy ask if everything's ok...They got me a new one...and I really appriciate that. ....they also ask if you need refill for coffee....then they take your cup and fill it with coffee...it will be practical if they just bring the pot and pour fresh coffee. The fridge on the side kinda ruin the whole vibe of the place.... But please don't take this as negative review...these are things they can improve on but over all the food is good...and the donuts maaaaaan....you gotta try it. They are really friendly too....we'll be back for sure. read more

We found Tommy's on yelp as we were evacuating south Florida escaping hurricane Irma. So glad we did!! We were greeted by friendly staff who promptly took our orders. We tried a couple of plates of biscuits and gravy served up with breakfast casserole full of eggs, cheese, and delicious sausage. We cleaned our plates. My daughter tried the chocolate sprinkle donut- I stole a bite- it was delicious. My son tried the corn beef hash- also yummy and he wiped the plate clean. It was served with a fried egg and buttered toast. The best part about this local hot spot is the good old southern hospitality. Tommy chatted us up and there were some other evacuees joining the discussion. We were wished well and sent off on our journey with a handshake and a smile. We will definitely be back! read more

It was pretty hard to find a donut place in Macon. I'm used to one being on every corner in California. I was excited to read about this one on Yelp until I went there. When we walked in at 7:30 am, barely a word was said by the lady behind the counter even though I thought my wife and I were pretty chipper and friendly when we greeted her. I ordered a devils food chocolate and a lemon donut. My wife ordered a caramel and a sprinkle donut. These all tasted like day old donuts and were very dry. Finished eating the devils food donut and could only make it half-way through the lemon donut. Same with my wife as she just couldn't down the last half of the caramel donut. There was a Krispy a Kreme down the road from where we were staying but I can get those anywhere. I wanted to experience local donut "cuisine." However, based on my experience, I would not go back. Other reviews are saying these are the best donuts in town. I'm not sure what they are comparing them to, but these may have been the worst donuts I've ever had. read more

I was traveling to Macon for a meeting and had about a half hour to kill. I saw this little restaurant in a strip mall and thought I'd stop in and get a cup of coffee. It was advertised as a bakery, and I thought it probably had those commercial type baked goods with no taste. OMG what a surprise!!!!! First of all, they had an awesome menu to choose from and so many HOMEBAKED goods it was hard to make a selection. My business partner and I settled on a croissant that we thought we'd share. Well, that didn't work....we each ordered an additional one because they were so light and fluffy and absolutely delicious. The service was amazing; everyone was so friendly and courteous. We even had the pleasure of meeting Tommy; and boy were we surprised to learn that he was the baker, chef and owner!!!! I will be traveling to Macon often and will make sure I leave early enough to stop by Tommy's!
