The service was nice but they don't know how to make a real Chinese chicken salad. It was a regular salad (lettuce and shaved carrot) with dry sliced chicken. The prawn spring rolls were also no frills... a prawn wrapped in a spring roll. Sauces and dressing also basic. Ho hum. read more

I recently went back to Tommy's Wok for dinner and was not disappointed. My husband and I shared pork potstickers, sizzling rice chicken soup, roast duck and shitake mushrooms with baby bok choy. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. The veggie's are always fresh (I am a vegetarian) and cooked perfectly. The service is always great and they will gladly customize any dish for you, as I often prefer one vegetable over another and always want onions on all my dishes. So glad I found this place. I was staying in SF for a few days and have pretty much tried all the high end places to eat. I wanted to just find a family owned casual Chinese food place. Luckily I found this place. Upon walking in I was greeted immediately and seated. Which would of been harder if I had shown up an hour later. This place gets BUSY. I had the chefs special the night. Which was scallops, dumplings in broth with thick rice noodles water chestnuts, green beans and scallions. I also had the Kung Pow chicken and steamed white rice. Everything was DELICIOUS. The food was seasoned very well. Noodles were not over or under cooked. The broth was a light chicken broth. I would definitely order that special again if they have it on the menu or have it available when I return. Rice was cooked perfectly. Kung Pow chicken had plenty of chicken in it. Wasn't one of those places where you order this. And there's TONS of veggies and maybe like 2-3 pieces of chicken in it. Would I recommend this place? Yes! I'll definitely be returning. It's definitely not the world's best Chinese food, especially being so close to SF. It's just ai-ight. We only came here because I wanted something other than Panda Express, since hubby loves that place. He swears it's gourmet Chinese food...hubby is Caucasian btw. My last two visits ( last night the most recent) were both fabulous. The ingredients are fresh and even my vegetarian friends were happy. There is something for everyone here. My cousin and I went as we were craving chinese food. We had pork pot stickers ( yummy cilantro soy sauce) and egg rolls to start. I had moo shoo chicken and she had noodles her way. Our server was excellent and we felt well taken care of. We were too full of food for dessert but there is always next time. The other thing is you can get take out easily as well. Great Chinese food! If you can't get to the city for authentic szechuan and other sought after Chinese fair, here's your place. I have only one criticism it would be that their hot and sour soup has way too much pepper in it. Like, a lot too much :/ Items we've enjoyed; pork lettuce cups, orange chicken, Tommy's Wok Filet, chow mein, potstickers, and my very favorite is their szechuan chicken. Perfection! We've ordered takeout a couple of times, no mistakes or forgotten items, everything was as ordered. The wait service is "good" a few mishaps and long waits for our check or more water, etc..Definitely not a deal breaker for us, as they are really nice and obviously get pretty busy. We arrived on Monday night at about 8:15 p.m. The restaurant closes at 9:00 p.m., so we were conscientious of the time, although were well ahead of their closing time. We were asked where we'd like to sit and, being a chilly night, I requested to be away from the front door. After confirming a table in the back, and walking 1/2 way there, an employee/female conversed (in foreign language [not a social commentary, but for context because we did not understand what was said]) with the host, and suddenly, we were escorted around and to the front of the restaurant. No explanation, but being sensitive to the time and the somewhat awkward interaction between the host and the female, we said nothing. Unfortunately, I can't say that our experience improved. While our food was good (hot and sour soup, Singapore noodles, and the tamarind seafood), the service was gruff, seemed short-tempered. There was a glimmer of kindness, but it was short-lived. We all felt like we had done something wrong - which is not the way you want to spend a meal. So, yeah. I had heard good things about Tommy's Wok from our former neighbors, Marin locals. I have cycled by countless times and have always wanted to visit. Alas. Despite the good food, the experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and I will no longer look longingly on the restaurant and will simply cruise on by. Too bad. read more

Hot and sour soup was better than most. I look forward to dining in post Covid. The staff were very friendly under difficult circumstances for take-out. With the unfounded Chinese sentiments, I wanted to support our neighborhood Chinese restaurant. I found it a step up from Feng Nian. Many Chinese places are too oily.
