The saving grace of this place were the very sweet servers. Great personalities and very friendly. There were 3 sushi chefs but it took a while for the food to come out.... When I finally got my roll with salmon and orange pieces, it was refreshing, but they totally forgot about my yellow tail avocado roll... I was already finished with my main roll when somebody asked if I got my yellow tail avocado roll yet. By the time I got it, it wad ugly, uneven, and hard to eat because the seaweed was pretty chewy.... The wait staff is excellent, but the wait itself wasn't great for a restaurant that wasn't packed...

Nailed it yet again!! A few new items and I just can't get enough of this sushi deliciousness. The owner was filling in that night at the bar and very kind as well as super attentive. Total win all the way around!

I was in the area, decided to Yelp for some food and this sushi spot popped out and I'm happy it did. The spot has very delicious specialty rolls. I tried an albacore special roll and a chef's special salmon crispy onion roll. Both were extremely delicious, with Albacore special roll having something that looks like black truffle on top and Chef's salmon roll having delicious diced tomatoes as one of the ingredients, while being topped with a mountain of warm crispy onions with a drop of sweet sauce. Unique and phenomenal flavor profile for those rolls. The spot itself has that standard sushi spot design full of dark yellow wood finishes, as I recall. The service is very friendly, made me feel welcome. Will definitely be back to try some more unique stuff!

This place is delicious! Will definitely be going again. They had a great selection of sushi. We tried so many different kinds. My favorite being the white salmon! Their garlic edamame has officially become my favorite! It seems like it's marinated then fried? Hard to tell but it was amazing. Service was great. Waiters recommended cold sake and we ended up getter an extra bottle! It was called Kurosawa. Brother got a beer. The glass was sooo cold, the foam froze on the rim. He liked it. Ambiance was nice. They had a tank with live shrimp! To eat.. I didn't do it, they were too cute!

The service at this restaurant is incredible. Thanks to a cool and awesome server we had named Pat or Patrick. He was attentive, made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make it the best dining experience we ever had. Fast, fun and with a smile is the way he rolls. He works everyday except Tuesday. So if you want the best service and a great attitude come in and ask for Patrick! Also make sure to leave a BIG TIP because he deserves it! The music at the restaurant was nice also. The food was great. Came out quickly. Red snapper was delicious. Salmon skin salad was good, udon was really good, scallop cut roll was okay but we didn't like the spicy mayo they used. Blue crab hand roll presentation was lacking but tasted pretty good.

WOW!!! This roll is mouthwatering good! The customer service is always incredible and the food is top notch! I used to swear by Ken of Japan... but this place is a whole different level and is my new favorite!

I think we found our new sushi, establishment. Since O2 closed we have been trying various spots. We arrived around 7pm., the restaurant was busy. We walked in and were seated immediately. We sat at on the tables in the front of the restaurant, so I can't really say how big the restaurant was. There is a sushi bar. They have Sapporo, on tap, served in frozen schooners. My wife had a Chardonnay. No sake this time but they do offer it. We started with the yellowtail appetizer with yuzu and spicy tuna on crispy rice. The yellowtail was 4 pieces so everyone had a piece. The yellowtail was thinly sliced with yuzu sauce and scallions on top. The fish was fresh and tasty. The spicy tuna was 6 pieces, it was a solid dish. Next we ordered kampachi and mackerel sushi. Both fishes were fresh and had great flavor. The size of the sushi was a perfect one bite piece. Off the special board we ordered the triple belly special. It was 3 pieces each of yellowtail, toro, and salmon belly. The presentation was nice, the sashimi pieces were large, two bite size. Now we moved onto rolls. Salmon crunch roll was good, 8 good size pieces. The 911 roll was served with a chili oil, on the side. Great heat and flavor. Now we decide we have enough room for 1 more piece of sushi so we opted for the wagyu special. Tender torched pieces of wagyu on top of sushi rice wrapped in nori topped with caviar and pickled wasabi. It was truly a gift , wrapped with a bow. The meal was pricey but it was worth it. We swill definitely return and try more specials.

Service is good, restaurant is very clean. I visited during lunch, ordered beef teriyaki Bento Box. It was so good. Vegetable tempura is one of the best.

    The best date night beer.

Once again, amazing!! Theirs no other place in Simi that makes better sushi or has better customer service. Tomadachi is simply the best!!

We came here last night, my family had a variety of sushi, yellow tail sashimi, sweet shrimp and a few rolls. Place was clean and organized and the food was delicious. One of the best sushi we had ever had. However the service was not the best, no one check on us on refills, or if we needed anything. Every time we needed something we had to wave at the waitress or go get it ourselves.

Hidden gem of Simi Valley. Their sushi was top notch. Quality of freshness was something to behold for. The flavor was outstanding. The combination of ingredients was well balanced. Their service was superb and it added to our overall experience. Inside is simple and clean. The chefs were kind and accommodating. Service was great!

Ask the Community - Tomodachi Sushi - Simi Valley

Is this the same tomodachi that was in westwood near ucla many years ago?

Nope, every Tomodachi is independently owned and unaffiliated from one another!

Is there all you can eat here, if not any recommended spots?

They do not (at this time) offer all you can eat. The quality of the fish at this restaurant is OUTSTANDING! It's not a place you'd want to just gorge out at, it's more of a family friendly high quality sushi place. Highly recommend it.

Do you offer all you can eat?

No, but the quality of the fish speaks for itself :)

We tried the Red Dragon roll, California hand roll with soy paper, Albacore delight sushi and a Bento box with Teriyaki chicken sashimi. The items we tried were all good, however, service was a bit slow. Staff were all nice, but seemed to be very busy since this sushi spot had AYCE sushi also. Overall, if you are not in a rush and want some good sushi, come check this spot out.

I came to Hikari Sushi with my sister and a friend, and when my sister's roll was brought to the table, there was a fly sitting directly on the sushi. We immediately pointed it out to the waitress. Instead of apologizing, she casually told us that there are "always flies in the restaurant," as if that somehow made the situation acceptable. She did replace the roll, but brought out an entirely different roll than the one my sister originally ordered. When my sister politely explained that it wasn't the correct item, the waitress argued with her and insisted that she "should have been more specific" because there are multiple versions of a Dragon Roll. Rather than simply acknowledging the mistake and correcting it, she continued debating with the customer before eventually bringing the correct order. As frustrating as the experience itself was, what happened afterward was even more disappointing. My sister left a review describing exactly what occurred, and instead of taking responsibility or apologizing, the owner publicly claimed that the fly landed on the roll before it reached our table and that the waitress had already replaced it before it was served. That is simply not what happened. The roll with the fly was served directly to our table. How would we see the fly if the roll was never served to us?? Makes absolutely no sense. We all saw it. Otherwise, there would've been nothing for us to point out. Everyone makes mistakes. A fly can get into a restaurant despite a business's best efforts. What determines good customer service is how those mistakes are handled. In this case, there was no genuine apology, unnecessary arguing with a customer over an incorrect replacement order, and then a public response that completely contradicted what we personally experienced instead of accepting responsibility. The lack of accountability was far more disappointing than the original mistake. I hope the restaurant takes customer concerns more seriously in the future and understands that honesty and accountability go a long way toward rebuilding trust.

This reservation took a full year to secure and I would gladly wait another year to experience it again. The hardest reservation in Ventura County? Without a doubt. Worth it? YES doesn't even begin to cover it. Dining at Sushi Tanaka is an experience in itself, especially in the presence of a legend like Chef Sei Tanaka. He is warm yet serious, focused yet playful and his dishes speak volumes. Every bite is layered with personality and skill. On the night we came in, my dearest friend Leslie and I had the entire restaurant to ourselves. I can't explain how we had an entire seating to just us but it was magical and intimate. We dinned on 18 courses, each one a surprise more delicious than the last. You just sit back and the chef chooses each bite for you. We've never had octopus so impossibly tender it melted in our mouths. Ice cold sake, warm fish soup, literally I could go on and on about this meal. Choosing favorites feels almost wrong because every course was exceptional, but if forced, the Santa Barbara uni on wagyu, Japanese scallop, Sea bream, and Toro with uni were some of the most impressive and unforgettable bites I've ever had. Never did I imagine that the best sushi I've ever experienced in Ventura County would be found in Simi Valley, but here we are. What an absolute treasure this city holds. I truly hope everyone gets the opportunity to support and experience this extraordinary omakase at least once in their life.

It's centrally located and a large parking lot anchored by a Target and Trader Joe's. Service is always friendly and no rush environment makes lingering over dishes and conversation a breeze. Over the years, especially post C-19, some of the cute touches have disappeared (no more complimentary edamame or fanned out sliced apple w/a dollop of peanut butter and a splash of Hershey chocolate sauce), but the food is still solid and satisfying. This visit we went family style and shared teriyaki chicken, which had a nice char on it and wasn't drowned in sugary sauce, so very nice and a decent portion. The Sexy Mango Roll, with shrimp tempura inside and sushi shrimp & avocado in the top. The Salmon Roll w/spicy tuna & krab inside and Dynamite(served in a bowl, not as a roll). I was most excited about the Dynamite because I try to keep low carb. The baked scallop, shrimp, crab & mushroom w/massago & eel sauce was good, but then the dish took a left turn when what I call "The Birds Eye Medley" was added although it's not a part of the description. I can only imagine the corn, green beans, carrot & peas are filler. It was a turn off. I'm eating at a sushi restaurant, not a Golden Corral. The frozen "medley" aside, everything was good, we had enough to eat and, most importantly, a comfortable booth to sit in and visit for a few hours. Cheers! "CC"

There was not that many people in the restaurant, maybe our table and no more than 2-3 other tables at the restaurant were taken? The server was polite and due to minimal customers in the restaurant, the service was easily accessible to us as needed (considering the fact that the time was a bit unusual at the time of ordering, so that was probably why customers were at a low). 2. The ambiance was comfortable. They had two tvs in the building in their main dining area, both of which had FIFA playing. This being my second time coming back, the first time I came was back in October, they had sports games on their tv at the time too. If you are a sports fan, may want to consider coming to watch a game 3. Pricing would be the biggest reason why I'd dock my rating. For what you're getting and what's worth the price, they're slightly steep for what you're paying. 4. No bad notes regarding their food. Their bugolgi has a lot of flavor. Their sashimi was really delicious based on chefs choice, and the other rolls were all made with a good balance of flavor and good quality of fish overall
