Black cod was moist and flavorful, mixed tempura was a good sized portion, crispy and fresh tasting. The popcorn lobster roll was a fun combo of sushi roll and crispy lobster bite topping. I've been coming to Tomodachi Sushi for a few years now and it's hands down my favorite sushi spot. The service is excellent! Very friendly, very attentive and very welcoming. I've truly never had a bad roll or a negative experience here. My go-to favorites are the Simi Roll (with goma sauce on the side), the Piano Roll, the Dynamite Roll, and the Spicy Shrimp Hand Rolls. The saving grace of this place were the very sweet servers. Great personalities and very friendly. There were 3 sushi chefs but it took a while for the food to come out.... When I finally got my roll with salmon and orange pieces, it was refreshing, but they totally forgot about my yellow tail avocado roll... I was already finished with my main roll when somebody asked if I got my yellow tail avocado roll yet. By the time I got it, it wad ugly, uneven, and hard to eat because the seaweed was pretty chewy.... I was in the area, decided to Yelp for some food and this sushi spot popped out and I'm happy it did. The spot has very delicious specialty rolls. I tried an albacore special roll and a chef's special salmon crispy onion roll. Both were extremely delicious, with Albacore special roll having something that looks like black truffle on top and Chef's salmon roll having delicious diced tomatoes as one of the ingredients, while being topped with a mountain of warm crispy onions with a drop of sweet sauce. Unique and phenomenal flavor profile for those rolls. The spot itself has that standard sushi spot design full of dark yellow wood finishes, as I recall. The service is very friendly, made me feel welcome. Will definitely be back to try some more unique stuff! read more

Their garlic edamame has officially become my favorite! It seems like it's marinated then fried? Hard to tell but it was amazing. Service was great. The service at this restaurant is incredible. Thanks to a cool and awesome server we had named Pat or Patrick. He was attentive, made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make it the best dining experience we ever had. Fast, fun and with a smile is the way he rolls. He works everyday except Tuesday. So if you want the best service and a great attitude come in and ask for Patrick! Also make sure to leave a BIG TIP because he deserves it! The music at the restaurant was nice also. The food was great. Came out quickly. Red snapper was delicious. Salmon skin salad was good, udon was really good, scallop cut roll was okay but we didn't like the spicy mayo they used. I think we found our new sushi, establishment. Since O2 closed we have been trying various spots. We arrived around 7pm., the restaurant was busy. We walked in and were seated immediately. We sat at on the tables in the front of the restaurant, so I can't really say how big the restaurant was. There is a sushi bar. They have Sapporo, on tap, served in frozen schooners. My wife had a Chardonnay. No sake this time but they do offer it. We started with the yellowtail appetizer with yuzu and spicy tuna on crispy rice. The yellowtail was 4 pieces so everyone had a piece. The yellowtail was thinly sliced with yuzu sauce and scallions on top. The fish was fresh and tasty. The spicy tuna was 6 pieces, it was a solid dish. Next we ordered kampachi and mackerel sushi. Both fishes were fresh and had great flavor. The size of the sushi was a perfect one bite piece. Off the special board we ordered the triple belly special. It was 3 pieces each of yellowtail, toro, and salmon belly. The presentation was nice, the sashimi pieces were large, two bite size. Now we moved onto rolls. Salmon crunch roll was good, 8 good size pieces. The 911 roll was served with a chili oil, on the side. Great heat and flavor. Now we decide we have enough room for 1 more piece of sushi so we opted for the wagyu special. Tender torched pieces of wagyu on top of sushi rice wrapped in nori topped with caviar and pickled wasabi. It was truly a gift , wrapped with a bow. The meal was pricey but it was worth it. We enjoyed the Yellowtail Fever roll that wasn't so spicy as expected with both a fresh jalapeño and siracha, placed with expert hand. It was very busy but understandably so for a Friday night at 6:15. We were able to sit at the side of the sushi bar and have a drink while we waited for a table. We probably only waited 15 mins before we moved. We ordered the garlic edamame to start, which was delicious. For rolls, we ordered the fire salmon roll (though not loving salmon. I replaced half of it with avocado, instead), and the fantastic albacore - both were fantastic. My husband did also order some sushi and miso soup we had to ask again for and might have been forgotten but we're pretty forgiving then they handle it quickly and when it's really busy. The miso was a bit lacking and had nothing in it but broth. All in all a wonderful experience. Would recommend going especially at off hours - there were several parties waiting when we left an hour later. read more

Wow!! This place has the most fresh sushi in town. So many options to choose from that are brought in fresh daily! I absolutely loved the Jumbo Scallop sushi, Toro, and Wagyu. The sushi here is very good. I've now been to Tomodachi in Simi Valley twice in the past six weeks, and it's a great dinner spot. This restaurant is located in a shopping center along Los Angeles Ave. Don't let the shopping-center-esque exterior facade fool you. It's a solid sushi spot and it has very nice ambiance on the inside. The service is also excellent at this restaurant. The premium cut rolls are awesome. Be sure to try the mango salmon, as that one is probably our favorite. Their garlic edamame beans are very good and they've got a good selection of sake (both hot and cold sake). I came here with a few friends and I was sadly disappointed. Right when I first walked into the place, the food smelled as if it was welcoming you to the table and has you salivating for what's to come, which is normally indicative of a really fresh sushi restaurant. Our server was one of the kindest I have had and she was very gracious with us, even offering complimentary miso soup. The two biggest disappointments I have are with the food and the wait. The food was just okay. Nothing was really all that good and honestly, I felt like I had to put more teriyaki and soy sauce on the food just to get through it. The tofu was bland and the veggie roll felt rushed. So for the price point, do not think it was worth it. The biggest issue was the wait for us. It took us two hours to get our food for the table. I got the bento box, which came at a fairly normal rate, but the rest of the table ordered sushi. I usually hate eating by myself but after a few minutes I started eating due to it getting cold. I took 20 minutes to eat being as slow as I can and still no one else got their sushi. They got so hungry that they decided to order side of rice just to keep them going. Our server should have warned us it would take as long as it did and even offer more complimentary rice for those that are on the hungrier side or potentially have plans they needed to get too. Service is absolutely horrible. I was a regular customer here and the host head asked for our name and number to seat us when a table opened. We waited half an hour with 2 kids and the host chose to seat another family with the same amount of kids who checked in after us as we waited. When we checked in with the host after half an hour, he said he checked someone else in who he thought was "us." Not even a bother in the world to call the number that he asked for.
