Sushi is always fresh and cold. They get more exotic type fish than your typical sushi. It goes get crowded so come early. The rolls are HUGE. They always give you free miso to start.

    Very good presentations too

The food is still amazing and the service is excellent. We go in there almost once a week,, if you're a complainer and don't give them five stars you're not happy with anything in life!!

We went there around 7:45PM. Please was clean, we were greeted promptly. The employees were very friendly, stopped by our table three times to ask if we needed anything. The sushi were fresh, I forgot the names, but the sushis we had were very pretty , and delicious ! We will definitely go back there anytime we come to Simi Valley.

This ramen place is so unique with special favors like TRUFFLE ramen!!…read more I got that one and as a truffle lover wow it was AMAZING!! And I came from chino hills which has alot of good ramen places. We also had chicken katsu curry and karaage which were both perfection. This was such a gold find considering the limited asian options in this county. I already know I'll be a regular here cuz it was mouth watering delicious. PS the server we had was just SUCH a vibe!!! Hope i get him again next time!

Unfortunately, the ramen didn't meet my expectations. The tonkotsu broth looked rich and creamy, but it lacked the depth of flavor and seasoning I normally expect from this style of ramen. The chashu pork was also dry and tougher than it should have been, instead of being tender and melt in your mouth. The noodles and soft boiled egg were good, and the presentation was nice, but the broth and pork are the stars of a ramen bowl, and they fell short during my visit. It may have just been an off day, so I'd be willing to give them another try in the future. I hope they can improve the consistency because the staff was welcoming, and I'd love to have a better experience next time.

The food was just so-so, and maybe I just chose wrong? The name "California Bowl" to me doesn't suggest a particular type of Asian cuisine, so I was confused about there not being dumplings. The only kind they really have are the shape of potstickers, but they are only fully fried. I ended ordering the Shrimp Udon, and it was just okay. Challenging to eat without getting broth everywhere, actually. DH and I did share an order of the fried dumplings and they were too well cooked for my preference. DH wasn't in the mood for sushi, but I think that would have been a better choice here that the noodles. I'd personally like more vegetables as part of the offerings. The restaurant was clean. Service was okay, if on the austere side. I was still craving the food from my new local favorite place when we left after our short visit to California Bowl.

It's been around forever and they are very generous with their portion sizes for the price. Their gyoza sauce is delicious, it's sweet and very addictive. My only complaint is that the man at the front isn't very friendly and always seems very reluctant when I ask for extra gyoza sauce. I've mentioned multiple times that I'm willing to pay for additional sauce, but he still begrudgingly gives it to me. It does make me hesitate to go in as often because I feel like I have to practically beg for enough sauce to fully enjoy my meal. Aside from that, everyone else has always been very nice and polite. Overall, it's a great restaurant with delicious food.

This reservation took a full year to secure and I would gladly wait another year to experience it again. The hardest reservation in Ventura County? Without a doubt. Worth it? YES doesn't even begin to cover it. Dining at Sushi Tanaka is an experience in itself, especially in the presence of a legend like Chef Sei Tanaka. He is warm yet serious, focused yet playful and his dishes speak volumes. Every bite is layered with personality and skill. On the night we came in, my dearest friend Leslie and I had the entire restaurant to ourselves. I can't explain how we had an entire seating to just us but it was magical and intimate. We dinned on 18 courses, each one a surprise more delicious than the last. You just sit back and the chef chooses each bite for you. We've never had octopus so impossibly tender it melted in our mouths. Ice cold sake, warm fish soup, literally I could go on and on about this meal. Choosing favorites feels almost wrong because every course was exceptional, but if forced, the Santa Barbara uni on wagyu, Japanese scallop, Sea bream, and Toro with uni were some of the most impressive and unforgettable bites I've ever had. Never did I imagine that the best sushi I've ever experienced in Ventura County would be found in Simi Valley, but here we are. What an absolute treasure this city holds. I truly hope everyone gets the opportunity to support and experience this extraordinary omakase at least once in their life.

This is worth the coins, gas and time. When you get there it is the one sushi chef and whoever else has a reservation. The night was filled with delicious kanpachi, salmon, uni, oyster, caviar, scallop, nigiri, tuna and so much more. It was a couple of hours of endless sushi, sashimi, salad and even some miso soup. It is not an easy reservation to get but totally worth it about $100 or more per person but it's alot of food. So make sure to make room. Great for a dat or a group of friends. The chef is so patient, kind and he explains every dish. He also has a nice playlist of blues music playing throughout our dinner. It helps to take you into a different place. 10 out of 10 i recommend.
