We came for a late dinner and wanted some sushi, so we tried this sushi spot out that's been here for quite some time. The restaurant has a lot of seating and a large menu. We tried the Red Dragon roll, California hand roll with soy paper, Albacore delight sushi and a Bento box with Teriyaki chicken sashimi. The items we tried were all good, however, service was a bit slow. Staff were all nice, but seemed to be very busy since this sushi spot had AYCE sushi also. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel other customers should know. I came to Hikari Sushi with my sister and a friend, and when my sister's roll was brought to the table, there was a fly sitting directly on the sushi. We immediately pointed it out to the waitress. Instead of apologizing, she casually told us that there are "always flies in the restaurant," as if that somehow made the situation acceptable. She did replace the roll, but brought out an entirely different roll than the one my sister originally ordered. When my sister politely explained that it wasn't the correct item, the waitress argued with her and insisted that she "should have been more specific" because there are multiple versions of a Dragon Roll. Rather than simply acknowledging the mistake and correcting it, she continued debating with the customer before eventually bringing the correct order. As frustrating as the experience itself was, what happened afterward was even more disappointing. My sister left a review describing exactly what occurred, and instead of taking responsibility or apologizing, the owner publicly claimed that the fly landed on the roll before it reached our table and that the waitress had already replaced it before it was served. That is simply not what happened. The roll with the fly was served directly to our table. How would we see the fly if the roll was never served to us?? Makes absolutely no sense. We all saw it. Otherwise, there would've been nothing for us to point out. Everyone makes mistakes. A fly can get into a restaurant despite a business's best efforts. What determines good customer service is how those mistakes are handled. In this case, there was no genuine apology, unnecessary arguing with a customer over an incorrect replacement order, and then a public response that completely contradicted what we personally experienced instead of accepting responsibility. The lack of accountability was far more disappointing than the original mistake. I hope the restaurant takes customer concerns more seriously in the future and understands that honesty and accountability go a long way toward rebuilding trust. read more

Fish was delicious and fresh! Portion sizes were bigger than expected. The Bentley roll was phenomenal, but the bluefin tuna roll felt like it had a interesting combination. I stopped in for happy hour (2-5 PM) with my granddaughter after promising her sushi following her outing, and we found this spot on Yelp. It definitely did not disappoint. The service was excellent. Been coming here for years back when it was all you could eat, it was & is our go to sushi place, sushi never disappoints. The issue today was customer service, they must of change waitresses, they always add new ones but there is always one or two long term waitress. Today they all seem to be new. With that being said, we go at our usual time, getting there by 4:15 cause we just like to eat early & beat the 5pm rush, we order the same thing 99% of the time. Two item's usually from the happy hour menu, two from the 1/2 price & two from the premium, no reason except it just works out that way between my husband & I. Since they took the AYCE away, we don't worry about having left overs, it's never ever been a issue until tonight, the waitress was like you can't take the happy hour items home, I had three pieces my husband had two, we were in shock, total shock, never ever been told this before, she said mine was fine & but my husbands was not, so he said no biggie, she walked off, my husband ate one more piece, we had our daughter with us she was finishing up her meal, I called her back over so I could take my 3 pieces home, she was like what was that, I told her & she said oh no you cannot take that, no happy hour items. So you are telling me they rather toss it out than let you take it home, HOW SAD & WASTEFUL. We asked her what the price difference was, one item was $2 & the other was $3, I was floored. The place was packed (always a good sign) and the service was on point from the moment we walked in to the moment we paid. Super friendly staff, clean dining area, and a sushi bar if you prefer counter seating. Menu had tons of options, but we went with the Three Amigo roll, Hot Night roll, and a bento box with rice, salad, and miso soup. Everything was delicious--even the miso soup and salad. Miso came out hot (not lukewarm like some places) and full of flavor. The rolls? SO good. Fresh, thick cuts of fish that legit made me melt. I even finished my whole plate, which never happens! Not what it used to be! We used to love Hikari but something changed. The past 2 times we went the quality was not even close to as good as it has been in the past. We have been going for many years. The presentation and the poor cutting of the nigiri and rolls were bad. Some super thick pieces some paper thin. Rolls falling apart. Not sure what happened to the sushi chefs that used to be there but the ones there now do not seem like real sushi chefs. Not the same experience as before when Hikari was very authentic. No longer authentic sushi chefs and it really shows in the poor quality and presentation. Not sure we will be going back. Look elsewhere for a true authentic sushi restaurant with real sushi chefs who had the proper training and one where the quality is better. read more

I'm glad to see this restaurant getting good business. My partner and I go here as our sushi go-to spot when we don't want all you can eat and want just good quality sushi. The staff is kind and patient if we need more time on the menu. They also can help recommend items to you and can accommodate changes when possible to menu items. We usually order shrimp tempura, couple rolls, and maybe some nigiri rolls. That's plenty enough food for 2 people. It's in a shared parking lot near the supermarket. So there is plenty of parking. But now, for the last 3 weeks, we decided to give it a try again and just order online/pick up. Every single time we order the same Spicy Tuna Salad, it's never consistent! Ingredients differ every single time. One order included julienned Daikon, the following week, we ordered again, non of it was included instead got the yellow pickled cubed daikon. Following week, order didn't have the julienned daikon nor the yellow pickled cubed daikon! No replacements either! Plus, the dressing was not in cups but rather, they just dumped the dressing and mixed it onto the salad which made it all mushy!!! Disappointing!!! What's next? read more

We didn't spend too long waiting, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is great. It's comforting and popping, so you know it's worth it. Service was great too; they're fast and helpful. The owner was really sweet too and gave us free service for their new yakitori dish which comes with the original chili seasoning and spicy sweet chili sauce, both are great pairings with the chicken which was also super juicy and flavorful. I'm so disappointed! I LOVE Hikari, it's my go-to sushi place. I wasn't sure about writing a review, but since I haven't stopped thinking about my experience today, I thought I should. My visit today was awful, so many things went wrong. The roll I ordered was the Hikari dragon roll, and when it arrived, it had a fly on one of the pieces. When I let our waitress know, her response was "well, sometimes flies will get into the restaurant". When she returned with a new plate, it was a completely different roll. I let her know right away, and she instantly got combative with me saying, "there are a lot of different 'dragon' rolls so you have to be specific when ordering". I could not believe her lack of accountability, especially considering the original plate given to me (with a fly) was a Hikari dragon roll. After some time of going back and forth, she left (with the wrong roll) and came back with the roll I ordered, making sure to loudly say "this is a HIKARI DRAGON roll, okay?". All I wanted to do was leave, so my friends and I ate quickly and left soon after. I never once received an apology, or any sort of acknowledgment from our waitress. About a minute after I showed up, 2 people walked in who were greeted and were asked how many of them there were. They were immediately seated. I was not asked how big my party was until 20 minutes after I walked in. Waited another15 minutes before someone asked me what the name of my order was assuming I was there for pick up. This entire time many employees are walking by never acknowledging me except those 2 times. When a lady finally showed me to my table she said she thought I was waiting for my group to show up. I dined in as a solo diner and was sat at the Sushi bar before the dinner rush. I had an entire show right before my eyes, and I really enjoyed watching the chefs create such beautiful masterpieces. The presentation of the Unagi Don was incredible along with the Tiger Roll. Both items ordered were decent for what you can find in Simi Valley. I went to Hikari on January 31, 2025 with my husband because we were starving and craving Japanese food. I lived in Japan for 10 years, and I've been in the U.S. for about a year now -- and honestly, most of the Japanese restaurants we try don't feel authentic, so we usually don't go back. But Hikari really surprised us in the best way. We ordered garlic edamame, sashimi, gyoza (fried dumplings), and fried salmon with teriyaki sauce. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and it reminded me of the food I used to enjoy in Japan. The atmosphere has an izakaya vibe -- cozy, relaxed, and welcoming. The staff were also very kind. One lady was going around to different tables and offered us some fish (I can't remember exactly if it was yellowtail or salmon), and she told us it was "on the house" and wished us a Happy New Year. That gesture meant a lot -- we didn't expect something like that, especially at such a nice sushi restaurant. We really enjoyed our lunch, the food, and the people. First the waitress gave me dirty looks when i left her a tip for a pick up, then the eel was waayy undercooked, i even asked for it well done i tried to crisp it up in my broiler but nope it was nasty and under the eel meat was a thick piece of slimy rubbery fat. the carpaccio was edible . the golden tiger roll was disgusting. the avocado was BLACK . the Spicy mayo was a weird yellow color not "pinkish" so i didn't take a chance . I've been coming here for many years and seems that it goes thru new ownership every so often. I especially enjoyed it during the 2020 pandemic when they offered 50% off. Visited Hikari last week for a simple dinner to go ... the staff were off putting with an attitude! I did submit an order but then told them cancel it. I subsequently went to Ozen Sushi on 1st St (formerly Hai Sushi). Gee what a difference!!! The vibe is better, the plating beautiful, much cleaner, and sooooo tasty! Great place to celebrate your birthday. The owner played a loud music to celebrate our birthday event while the whole staff joined in, wow! The Dragon Roll, Eskolar, Tuna Rolls, Baked Scallops were fresh and tasted sweet and creamy; they practically melts in your mouth. The lady cashier and perhaps owner was very friendly, staff attended to our needs like family and the restaurant was a perfect place to spend dinner and celebrate too.
