So glad I found Peter--not only is he an incredible luthier, but he's also an absolute gentleman…read more I brought my Fender Strat in for some intonation issues, and Peter knew exactly what to do--and then went above and beyond. He did a full fret dress and worked out a slight heel kick so the notes wouldn't fret out. He fine-tuned the intonation, deepened the nut slots to make the first fret easier to play, cleaned out all the pots, and straightened the neck. He also adjusted the whammy bar and corrected the bridge, which had been pulling up too far. It now sits closer to the body with a gentler angle--still allows a half-step pull-up, but with better stability and improved tuning. The guitar plays so much better now--and Peter even promised I'd sound just like Stevie Ray Vaughan. I'm pretty sure by "now" he meant in about a million years. Peter works out of his home in Aina Haina. It's a little tucked away at the end of a driveway , but if you follow his texted directions, you'll find it. Although I did drive past said driveway the 1st time around LOL. Happy Shredding!!

I'm by no means an expert, and honestly,…read moredespite some experience on stage, I'd still barely call myself an intermediate guitarist, so when my acoustic's connections went on the fritz, I was at a loss for what to do. I asked one of my much more experienced and knowledgeable musician friends, and he instantly suggested BR Frets. He was then confirmed by another guitarist friend of ours who was hanging with us, saying they're hands down the most skilled people on island that they both know of, so I went ahead and made an appointment. Both friends said to expect a couple of weeks, maybe 3 depending on how busy they are, as they do get quite a bit of business, and to try and get an appointment when I can, so I did as soon as I could. I was greeted warmly by Chris, who asked me some pertinent questions, took a look at Hayley, and gave me a clear idea of what to expect; either he can fix her, which if he can, he'd try to do so that night. If he can't clean and repair the connections on my pick up, not only would they likely need to send out the pickups for diagnostic and repairs, but the cost to do so would jump up significantly, showing me how much the piece costs broadly and then factoring time and labor. Sure enough, I called the next day, as advised, and Wes said to come back on in to pick her up. I got there and spoke with Wes, who told me Chris stayed up a bit the previous night to make sure Hayley's good and ready to go, and she was back in action! They also only charged for the time and labor, which was more than fair for the quality they provided and all the relief they gave me. Definitely worth coming to them when guitar help is needed.

We had issues with communication and appt setting which was at 10 am but he didn't get my text to confirm. I am happy Dave text rhe mirning of my appt. and asked me to call him, so I called and told him I was waiting, so he had to shower etc, time was pushed back to 12, and it was not a problem. It pays to be flexible!! Dave showed up got straight to work. Removed old fan/light combo installed my new fan/light with remote control. (It's a plus!! ) In less than an hour!! My tall son had to help him hold the fan up in place to screw in. Some jobs need extra hands, no problem. Dave also replaced the broken fan blade in my living room, no charge!! Pros: Knowledgeable and very reasonable. Came with a can-do attitude. Cons: Not an issue with me, I had to clean up area. Just mentioning time and cleaning just in case someone expects more!! For me I am 100% satisfied. Especially when another company quoted me $700 to install the fan. Ridiculously shameful! Would I use Handiman Dave again.. Definitely Do I recommend Handiman Dave. 100% and he is backed by Yelp. Tell Dave Ann from Kapolei recommended him.

When I got the keys to my newly purchased condo in June 2021, I hired Dave to install a new window…read moreAC unit. He had a very good price so I went with him over a few other handymen. All I have to say is, "You get what you pay for." I'm being fair with 3 stars because he definitely did the job he was hired to do, but at the same time, with his experience, he didn't consider or suggest making the installation water tight. I do remember him commenting that there was caulking all throughout the outside wall around the AC unit. He said that was overkill and it wasn't necessary. The AC unit that was removed was bigger than the new one, so the hole left was quite big. It was good while I didn't live in the condo while I had work done, as well as it not raining as much since it was Summer. but then a few weeks ago, my wife and I started to notice water damage to our laminate flooring, which appeared to spread from the AC as the source. Top it off, a neighbor above had a fast leaking AC unit, which was also dripping water into this hole. After having hired another handyman to fix the job just this past Friday, this new handyman confirmed that the hole that was left open allowed rain to penetrate into the open section to the left of the AC, which allowed for water to pool and build up in the wall, which eventually spread beneath the floor. Quite disappointing, as anyone could imagine since now I have to hire a contractor to find flooring that will match my existing floors, rip out my newly installed expensive baseboards and the damaged flooring to fix everything because I wanted to save about $150.. I'm not in anyway trying to deter anyone from hiring Dave. I'm sure he is competent, but just think for yourself at times and question what is right and wrong. Especially if you see that something is done or set up a certain way in your home, make sure you have him fully inspect and determine if shortcuts are okay.
