I had a breakdown over the weekend and my regular shop was booked all week (Anita Tire in River Vale) On a recommendation, I gave Tom's Automotive a call. Mark was extremely helpful over the phone and made time to take a look at my car the same day. I was afraid it would be a larger repair (catalytic converter) but he called back within 2 hours to let me know it was the spark plugs and coils. He gave me an estimate and his recommendation along with a cheaper option, in case I couldn't afford the more expensive repair. Work was done within 24 hours with great attention to detail. Mark, Tom, and the entire team were friendly, professional, and honest. In the interests of cost, I have driven pre-owned cars most of my life so I'm no stranger to the inside of an auto shop. My first time going to Tom's and overall great experience. Tom went above and beyond and even came to my house to help me jump start my car so that I can even drive to his shop to see what the underlining issues were on our BMW X3. They were very straight forward and outlined the exact issues with the car and what needed to be done. We reviewed pricing together before they started the job and they were able to get it running again properly. I've been getting my car serviced here since they opened, and before that I was going to their old location. I'll admit, I am no car buff, but I do like to take care of my things, and that includes my car. These guys are honest, trustworthy and friendly. They never tell me I need something done to my car unless I really need it. And when I did have to get something replaced, they went the extra mile and told me that the part was covered under the warranty from when I purchased the car. My car was in need of an oil change as I was severely overdue on the checkup. I had a long trip ahead me the coming weekend and so I wanted my car to be in tip-top shape before leaving. My appointment for my service checkup at the local dealership again fell through, not hearing a word from them about any confirmations whatsoever. This has happened 3 times now and this has been my place to go since I've moved into the area. I was fairly desperate to get my car fixed the same day, and so I began calling shops and asking if they can service my car. Finally, I got a hold of Tom at Tom's Automotive Specialists. Long story short, their responsiveness to my service request and speed at which they performed their service was just light years beyond what I've experienced anywhere else. No appointment necessary, oil change completed in 20 minutes, price of the service cheaper than anywhere I've brought my car to. These guys are top notch and have instantly garnered my trust and respect for their outstanding service. I'm looking forward to working with them in the future. read more

I know, it is hard to find a competent and honest car repair shop. Tried going to Toyota service center, the gas station repair shop, the auto repair franchises(midas, tds,etc), well most of them are crooks trying to sell you something you don't need. After my second visit to Tom's auto I decided to write this review. This guy is honest and will only fix what needs to be done. Service center is asking me to do some replacements that cost $760, I brought my car to Tom's and he only charged me $220 with warranty. Service center is saying that there is a leak in my oil pan, I asked Tom about it and he said "It is pretty dry down there, I don't know what they are talking about!" Keep up the good work Tom and I am sure people will be lining up to get their fix ;) read more

Brought my daughter car to Tom after a few shops refused to repair, there were so many issues, but Tom took on the challenge, was patient, thorough, explained every step, was fair and honest, and thankfully my daughter was able to take her car back to Boston and felt confident sending her. ---- CUSTOMER BEWARE !! ------------------ Let me say that Tom's shop is close to me so are very convenient to use. I have dealt with these folks on numerous occasions and I feel qualified to comment. I have no ax to grind with them and am being 100% honest with what I have experienced. 1) First off they are extermely expensive. $125 per hour of labor. If the work is done right, I guess you can say it "might" be worth it. A dealership this place is not. 2) I have caught them adding on small ticket items without me asking for it. For example, I know it sounds petty, but when my washer fluid is full (I did it less than 3 days prior), and I see a bill for $6 to fill my fluid tank, I know I am getting ripped off. I confronted them with it and they took it off the bill. I should not have to watch this so closely and it should have sent up a red flag for me. I guess I am a slow learner. 3) 2 weeks ago I had a coil in one of my cylinders go bad and my car was showing a OBD2 code. I had them change the coil out and received a bill. It was mid- $200 range to fix the issue. I paid in full for the work and never thought any more about it. 2 weeks later, I get a similar code, this time with a different cylinder. I bring it to them and later that day I receive a call from the owner stating " I think I didnt charge you for the parts (i.e. Coil/Plug), the last time you came in" This took me by surprise that he had the gall to bring this up. In essence, to me, he was calling to say I am holding your car hostage until you pay me for the mistake THEY made 2 weeks ago. Granted, it wasnt said exactly that way.... yet he was persistant about getting his $100 for the coil + plug. I said I paid it but being an honest guy, would look at my bill from last time and if it was valid, I would give him a check and be by later in the day. 4PM that same day, they call me back saying my car was ready and was I going to drop off the extra $100. I explained that I felt this was horrible customer service and should be at HIS expense. After all, if I go into a restaurant and order steak and pototo and pay my bill, then go back 2 weeks later, would the owner EVER say that they forgot to charge me for the starch??? Give me a break. Needless to say I will NEVER do business with this shop again. It would be my best advice to anyone who reads this that you avoid these less than honest people at ALL COSTS. read more

I was just there to have the heat in my car fixed. I was on my way to work when only cold air was blowing through the vents. I knew this place was around the corner from work and stopped. Tom and Marc were super helpful with fixing the heat. And my car was back on the road within a few hours even with ordering the part that day! I will be back next time my car has an issue read more
