We have taken our fleet of five vehicles to Devonshire for over five years now. Majority of repairs have been done correctly and priced fair. The last three have been miserable. We took vehicle for antifreeze leak. They did what they deemed to repair that. It was $1400. Now a problem with a "vehicle reset" has arisen. Another $500 to dealership. My problem with this is, if you can't fix it tell me up front not after I paid you $1400 to have to spend another $500. I spoke with Tim and he said it wasn't their issue. I was referred by a family member & given the phone number. The first call was fine, told me to drop the car off in the morning, didn't take any info from me. Weather got bad & I couldn't make it before work. Called again to ask if I could bring it after work. The man I spoke to was incredibly rude, & laughed at me when I asked if I could bring it this evening. I'll find someone else who at the bare minimum treats people with respect. read more

My husband and I spent over $10,000 on having three of our vehicles fixed here. One of our vehicles needed 4 new tires and an alignment. The alignment wasn't right so we returned the car for further repair. We received the car back with two really bad worn out old tires on the front where our new tires were. I feel we were scammed. I do not trust them anymore. read more

DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE!! I took my 2010 ford fusion in for a broken water pump. they charged me 500$, did not even replace the belt tensioner, slapped on a water pump & main serpentine drive belt and said it was fixed. Made it about 20 miles before it broke down again because of the belt tensioner (same problem). When i contacted them about backing up their work, they said it was a "coincidence" that it broke just 20 miles down the road and REFUSED TO MAKE IT RIGHT!! This place is crooked and i'm out 500$ for no improvement on my car! read more

I took my work van in for a spark plug change the other day. Tim gave me a good estimate on the time and labor involved for the repair. He found out once he got things apart the the plugs required new boots, but called before he moved on which I appreciated. Got things wrapped in in reasonable time and did a good job and gave me a good report of their finding. The guys here seem honest honest and fair. Not that I look forward to more vehicle repairs, but I DO look forward to their awesome service down the road! read more

The shop we previously used for our family and business vehicles just closed due to owner retirement, so we tried Devonshire. A simple oil change turned out to be too complicated. We won't be bringing our other family/business vehicles here. Upon returning my Scion XB the day after a simple oil change (3-quart synthetic blend + 1-quart customer-supplied $16 additive), due to finding that it had been overfilled by AT LEAST a quart (AT LEAST a full quart, or 25%, over the 4-quart capacity - creating a risk of serious engine damage), the shop owner made excuses for the tech by stating how difficult it was to see the oil on the dipstick (I had no problem seeing it, that's why I brought the car back in. I suspect the tech didn't even check the dipstick); and he grumbled a begrudging, "Sorry" as the sum total of his concern (annoyance) before turning his back and walking away while I was still trying to address the concerns. I pressed for something more than the forced "Sorry" as I expressed concern about the wasted additive, wasted time (I watched the snail-pace effort on my car from the shop window as I waited -- it took almost as long for casual shuffling around the shop and draining of the extra quart as it did to do the full oil change and headlight change the day before), and about the charge for 3 quarts of synthetic blend being the same as the 5-quarts posted on their rate board, and about how the handling of a simple oil change and my concern/complaint made for a bad first impression. He turned his back and walked away grumbling instead of showing that it mattered by actually addressing the concerns and making some effort to make it right with some adjustment/credit. I asked who else I could talk to about it ... and he said, "I'm the one. I'm Bud." I asked, "You're the owner?". I was surprised, based on his I-don't-care attitude, to learn that he is the owner. He, then again, just walked away and shrugged it off. There are plenty of other shops around for our business and our referrals. read more

Dropped my truck off and they found the first problem and called me before anything was done. Only thing is I had a bad fuel pump so they weren't able to run a full diagnostic. Said it was gonna be 7-800 bucks. Got my truck towed and replaced it myself for about $250 for the new fuel pump assembly. read more

We've been taking our automobiles to Tom's Devonshire for more than twenty years. They've always done a great job. Their rates are reasonable and they are highly skilled mechanics. They even do actual repairs (rather than the remove and replace method so often employed nowadays). Anyway, they've earned our complete trust. read more

Super fast and friendly. My alternator died on Wednesday night and they had it fixed up by 1pm the next day.

These guys are awesome! Fast service and great workmanship. Fix a tire leak in 10 minutes and was cheaper then the big box stores. Will be back for the any future issues. read more

Im concerned with the lack of customer service I received, after paying over $900 in hopes to work out some problems with my vehicle I pulled off the lot and immediately noticed that the very problem I took it there for in the first place was not addressed there was no way they pulled it out of their garage for me to pick up without realizing that my car was not getting any power the mechanic then gave me a couple suggestions and told me to have a nice day after paying almost $1,000 for them to put my old power steering pump back on my vehicle and a few new rusted lines I am not happy and this isn't over. read more

As a car guy, 2 things really get to me. 1. I obsess about the quality of work done to my car. I care about performance and reliability, and I know what to look for to see whether or not someone did a good job or not. After taking my Focus RS to Tom's Devonshire Automotive (TDA), they performed better than I could have hoped and were more knowledgeable than any other shop I've been to. Service was impeccable and they didn't waste any of my time. 2. Car guys generally know how much something should cost, whether its an oil change (which anyone can google to see competitive pricing) or more complicated tasks like fixing your vehicle or installing aftermarket products. In all my dealings with TDA, they have been more than fair in pricing. The best I've seen in Indy or anywhere else for that matter. Such a relief to have a mechanic I trust and respect. read more

I'm so relieved to finally find a decent auto place in Indy. It's even in a nice neighborhood where I grew up as a kid, which made it that much better. If you look through my other reviews I've posted for other auto places, you'll see I've really been through the ringer with finding a mechanic in this town. I recommend this place to everyone, especially women. They're a teensy bit more expensive, but HOLY HECK they're worth it because they get things fixed right the first time AND they do it quickly, usually by the next day. The first time I took my car there, they miraculously fixed all the problems I had with my dashboard lights without me even asking them. Keep in mind I asked Skillman off Shadeland Ave. to fix the airbag light at least twice and they never could fix it. The battery I purchased from Skillman, one of the multiple times I had to take it back after their mistakes, was spewing battery acid and stopped working 3 months later; I'll post that sooner or later under their review section. Also, Tom's Devonshire acted like it was no big deal to replace the back window when I was ready; I wouldn't have to hunt down the glass because they would find it for me. Ray Skillman Mazda told me I'd have to find it in a junkyard myself. My mother who also kept going to Skillman for years (because it's where she bought her car) is now going to Tom's Devonshire because of how they fixed my car when no one else could do so. I brought my car in at 8:45 am on a Saturday morning. I told one of the mechanics everything I wanted done and went next door to Kroger to work. I waited and waited and waited and never heard anything. Finally, on my lunch break at 1:00 pm (they close at 3:00 pm on Saturday) I stopped by to see what was going on. My car was still parked outside...much to my surprise! I asked one of the guys why my car wasn't being worked on and he said the guy who was supposed to work on it had to leave. I never received a call about this. They completely ignored me and never even apologized. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH POOR SERVICE IN MY LIFE...AND I HAVE OWNED A LOT OF CARS!!!!! They never called me once about my car. It is so odd. No one is minding the store over there at all. I will never go back. read more

Car broke down on the highway just outside Binford and we were able to limp into the area, where the Maaco people suggested Tom's Devonshire as a reliable shop. The folks at Tom's looked at the car quickly, gave us a reasonable quote and fixed the problem within a couple of hours. We were thrilled by their helpfulness, quick work, and decent prices. We were able to get back on the road quickly -- and the car runs better than it has in years and gets better mileage than it has in years. How this place has not been shut down yet is beyond me. If I could give it zero stars I absolutely would. I created a yelp account just to write a review on this place. My experience was HORRIBLE. My car died and had to be towed to the nearest place which just so happen to be them. Turns out my transfer case had to be replaced. They fixed it and after I picked it up, I noticed two other major problems with my car that were not there before I dropped it off. I took it back a second time and they charged me 800$ because a wheel bearing was apparently loose. I picked it up and the problem was not even a little bit resolved. When I took it back a third time and they wanted to charge be another 800$ because apparently another wheel bearing was loose. Finally I learned my lesson and took it somewhere else. They told me that Toms Devonshire Automotive were the ones that caused all of the new problems that my car was having. Which by the way, cost be 1200$ to get fixed. When they were attempting to repair the transfer case the first time, they put everything back together incorrectly breaking multiple car parts in the process. When confronted about this issue and asked for money back they declined. Their customer service was terrible and they were condescending. I realize I am a young female who does not know anything about cars but I expect to be treated the same as anyone else. Please people, do not take your cars to this place. I am reporting them to the BBB as well as taking them to small claims court. read more
