I ordered the Kaeng Phet Ped Yaang (duck curry) and Som Tum (papaya salad). I asked for the papaya salad mild and it still kicked my ass. The spice lingered forever! That said, it was super flavorful. The papaya had a great crisp bite, almost tangy, and the garlic and tomatoes balanced it all out nicely. I recently was in Tigard for an extended weekend, and was craving Thai food so I decided to try Tong Thai. I am so glad I did. This review is for a take out experience, not a dine in experience. I ordered online and the food was ready fairly quickly for me to pick up. When I arrived, the staff was very quick to help me and the food was delicious. We have passed by this place for years and never tried it. We are so glad we finally walked in. I have never tried green curry. I'm a red or Penang curry girl. But supposedly the green is the spiciest, so I wanted to try it. I ordered it Thai spicy because I can handle the heat. It came out decently spicy... not quite Thai spicy but hot enough. The flavor was amazing. There was a lot of liquid and not enough white rice to go with it. There was also a lot of eggplant and not a ton of meat. But, overall, it was excellent. My husband got the basil fried rice, which used to be my favorite dish but is impossible to find in Thailand. It's always served as a stir fry not as fried rice... even if you ask for it correctly Anyway, that was amazing!! He would definitely get it again. We also got spring rolls, which were pretty good. We had originally planned to find an Indian place for dinner, but that proved significantly harder than I'd thought (not open on random days, only a food truck, closed last year, etc.). At any rate, we gave up on Indian for that evening and found this place close to our hotel instead. The only caveat I'll offer is that if you are approaching from Dartmouth Street and turning left onto Pacific Highway, you need to turn such that you are in the right-most lane afterwards. You almost immediately have to enter the plaza were the Tong Thai is located. If you miss this, you get to go on an extra 5-minute drive making some U-turns to get back. The restaurant is in a fairly large plaza off towards the left end when you face it. There was plenty of parking when we visited. Inside, the layout is fairly standard, with mostly booth seating. Our server was attentive and friendly. They had the regular array of Thai dishes you find in most such restaurants. Portion sizes were large but not huge. Everyone enjoyed their dish. I think I had one of the curries and spice level was appropriate vs. my request. If I lived in the area I'd consider making this a regular dining choice. read more

The chicken in the pineapple rice was dry and the veggies - I suspect- were frozen. The salad rolls weren't bad but I like shrimp not chicken. (And the chicken was dry in this dish as well.) This place is really authentic! I loved the fish cake, it had kaffir lime leaves that made it extra fragrant and the cucumber sauce is really good. The massaman curry was creamy and thick, very delicious. The Tom yam noodle was also really good. I asked for shrimp and there were like 7 of it. Good value. The food is really good the chicken was very moist and had really good grill marks and it was a decent size chicken breast, the vegetables were cooked just right. Not too mushy or not too hard. Sorry to report that we no longer go to this restaurant. In our experience, the food has gone seriously downhill. My, former favorite, stir fried vegetables with shrimp has been consistently lacking any noticeable seasonings or sauce and the once-terrific veggie fried rice now has zero fresh veggies and is merely sprinkled with specks of cheap, frozen peas and carrots. His spicy tolerance is extremely high to the point where I think he has no tastebuds. The friendly elder gentlemen who took our order said that is way too spicy, so my boyfriend said spice level 4. At the end, he came out with the food with spice level 3. He said generally when people order spice level 4 and 5, they cannot eat it since the peppers they cook with are extremely spicy. He told me he could give us more spice if we think it wasn't enough. Spice level 3 was perfect! Well at least to my boyfriend... it was a little too spicy for me.
