This place has its own parking which is nice in a crowded Vancouver and the ambience inside is very relaxing. I recommend coming during happy hour time because the sushi is so much cheaper. The drinks were good because they didn't have too much sweetness. The flavors in the sushi were alright but the rolls kept falling apart with the slightest touch. The tom yum had too little flavor, it was barley sour but the lemongrass chicken pad thai stole the show. The pad Thai itself was average but the lemongrass chicken was very soft and tender, with a sour green sauce paired with another sweet peanut butter sauce drizzled on top making it a delicious combination. Thai Orchid on SW Barbur deserves more love. I ordered the gaeng mussaman and pad kee mao, and both were excellent--flavorful, balanced, and deeply satisfying on a rainy Portland night. The mussaman had real, tender beef (not the mystery stuff some places use), creamy coconut richness, and well-rounded spice. The drunken noodles hit that perfect wok-char note, full of holy basil and chili heat. You can tell someone back there is cooking from experience, not just following a script. This isn't "fancy authentic" Thai, it's honest Thai comfort food done right. Generous portions, fair pricing, and food that tastes alive. Definitely my go-to Thai spot in the neighborhood. read more

Sad to leave this review. We've gone here for years. At one time we loved the food, especially the pad thai, but there's been a steady decline, and it's gotten worse in the last two years or so. The last two times we went the food had taken a DRASTIC turn for the worse. The second time was the worst - the pad thai was burned and really salty, with none of the usual yummy balance of sweetness, saltiness, and stir fry taste. The pad phet (eggplant) seemed to be nothing but salty and hot, little or no sauce, literally five small pieces of eggplant, and all the vegetables were barely cooked. Both dishes were basically inedible. We got it to go so couldn't send it back but we would have. We unfortunately won't be going back. read more

Honestly we will drive from anywhere to get to this thai orchid. Quality of food and taste is always consistent. Absolutely delicious and hands down the best Thai restaurant that we've had in Portland. This food is very close to authentic if you know what to order, my husband and I have both been to Thailand (for a food tour) and frankly Thai Orchid brings us back. The service is soooo sweet and friendly. The gentleman I speak with (always) is always giving us amazing recommendations when we want to add something else to what we always order. He's incredibly easy to talk to and understand. He's NEVER rushing me like other restaurants when I call in an order, always patient, always asks how spicy. Had dinner and a movie and this restaurant was our dinner. It was pretty busy when we got there and there was a booth in the bar and when I asked the gentleman if he would clean it he said "ya when I get to it". I took that as a not now. So I asked the hostess upfront and she got us a table in less than five mins. We ordered Volcano and Pink Ocean. It was the right amount since we had some popcorn. I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for years now (both dine in and takeout) and really enjoyed their food. The younger Asian male server/cashier was always friendly and provided great customer service. Once when I stopped by to pick up my take out order I asked this gentleman that if I dine inside the restaurant the following time would it be possible to watch the ball game on one of their televisions. He said, "no problem." If the restaurant is open I can stop by eat and watch a ball game assuming they had the cable channel. Well, the next time I stopped in he gladly changed the channel on one of the televisions so I could watch the game while I ate. Unfortunately, when I returned about 10 days later to eat inside the restaurant and watch a ballgame an older Asian male server/cashier was working. When I informed him and the female server that I would like to dine in and if possible watch the ballgame on one of their televisions, he immediately responded "the channels are locked." It was obviously a B.S. response and it seemed he didn't want me to eat inside the restaurant so I immediately turned around and walked out. Ordered take out from here today in hopes of satiating two different cravings at once. Boyfriend got Mussman curry with chicken and I got the pho... The curry was tasty, and thankfully, they got the spice level right for him. The soup though, was definitely not pho. I'm so glad I tempered my expectations, but I was still disappointed. The beef was good, the meatballs were lean and even better than the beef, but the broth was waaay off. It comes with the usual fixings of lime, bean sprouts, and basil, but there was no star anise, no cilantro, no green onions in the broth. It really just tasted like a random beef broth with no seasonings. Broth is what makes the pho, so maybe just call it beef soup. We might get the curry again and maybe try the Pad Thai, but if I need my pho fix, I'll pass until I can get to a Vietnamese place. read more

This was a pretty poor experience. I used to go here regularly before I moved. Since coming back, we went here once a couple months ago during the day, but we went this evening and it was a disaster. We were waiting on one of the servers to be free in order to get our to go order paid for, but they were running around on damage control mode and were helping grub hub before acknowledging me multiple times. After I spoke up out of frustration, one of them came to help me. Got the order and went home. When we got home, we started eating and found pad Thai didn't taste like anything, the noodles were way overcooked. Another order was about a 5 of 10 when we asked for mild. The third dish was just okay. I am really not sure if I will return. They really need a full time host to manage the front end because it's a mess. read more
