Quiet on this rainy night another customer comes in putting their umbrella down as they enter. I was greeted after I entered by the friendly wait staff. Letting me guide myself to a seat that I may like. I was delivered water in a carafe. Flowers at the table. Gives a feeling of your neighborhood spot. Am I in NYC. I've heard mention of Rama Thai and am so glad that I finally suggested to a friend we try it out. We chose a great time as well, around the 5ish zone. It started getting pretty packed around 6pm...on a Tuesday. There is a reason as their food is delicious. Great portions for great prices and the service is wonderful too. It can be a touch slow just because they don't have a ton of people working. We took so much home! We wanted to try a lot of things. My friend is Italian and loves the spicy whereas, I am a wuss! Everything was amazing! Moo Ping Kati, shrimp salad rolls, chicken satay, spicy eggplant - this was spicy for me but still delicious, and snow crab fried rice. One warning - the parking lot and there are no ADA spots. There is the street with parking next to the restaurant which I plan to use next time. When I parked, there was a Lexus parked nearly sideways, in almost two parking spaces so I parked far over and was against the line. The lot was empty almost when we got there but the spaces are VERY small. People kept parking super close to me and those spaces are already ridiculously small but also everyone anymore needs to drive vehicles which can also be a house. Someone in a mini parked so close that I had to get into the car from the passenger side...I genuinely question how they got out of their car. It is a good thing that I am part spidermonkey. I'm so glad we found this place! The atmosphere is cool and fresh, good music, and super clean. Our server was attentive and sweet! She always made sure our drinks were full and that we enjoyed the food. We were never in need of anything or looking around for service, but not in an overbearing way. The food! SO good! Crab puffs had a ton of filling and weren't overcooked. Spring rolls had great seasoning on the inside you didnt even need to dip them into sauce. Mango curry with tofu was just the right amount of heat with being too much and definitely not sweet. Pad thai with beef was savory and delicious And the tom yum noodle soup special was AWESOME! This was our first time in trying Rama. The place was packed when we arrived with a couple tables just finishing up. We were greeted and seated with only a few minutes wait. They promptly took our drink and appetizer order. The sweet potato curry puffs were good and the salad rolls with shrimp were super fresh. They were served with warm peanut sauce. The table ordered snow crab fried rice, panang curry and pork belly bao buns. Overall great meal and we will come back again to try different things. The pork belly in the bao bun was not soft or easy to bite and it was $3 for an extra peanut sauce which I felt was a bit steep for the little tiny cup. The Thai iced tea was delicious. I went on a dinner date with my friends and we picked this spot and wow the interior is stunning! The owner clearly paid attention to detail in the decor. Our server was friendly and recommend to pick the spice level accordingly since they use Thai level spice. We ordered: *Crispy chicken basil- we all really like the breading that they use to fry this chicken with, super crunchy but a bit too salty for my liking I ended up only taking 2 bites of this. *Tofu spicy eggplant- must order don't underestimate eggplant! They seasoned this so well it was both savory and spicy and slightly sweet and I love that there were tons of veggies in this dish. *Pad see ew- the dish itself is sweet and salty and has a slightly charred taste and the wide noodle had a good chew to it as well. *Sea food tom yum- also another perfect dish to eat with hot white rice, the soup has a good combo of spicy, sour, and sweet. There was a good amount of sea food in here too. *Som tum Thai- I wished we asked the staff to make this papaya salad little spicier but I definitely will be ordering this again next time! My favorite was the tofu spicy eggplant; it was perfectly seasoned and paired so well with the hot white rice. The seafood tom yum was spicy and sour with seafood was also delicious. I've been wanting to try here after seeing all the pretty food pictures and great reviews and I really enjoyed my dining experience here! We came right at opening on a Saturday at 12pm and had our choice of seating. It's not a big place but it's bright and clean and welcoming. The parking lot is small (and the spaces are small too!) but there is free street parking on the side too. We were greeted and seated right away with a highchair. I took my toddler to the fun animal jungle wallpaper decorated bathroom and came back to water and a closed-lid cup for my toddler! I can't tell you how much I appreciate that gesture without asking - that is next level service. The food lived up to all the pictures and the reviews for sure! I would definitely recommend the sweet potato curry puff to share as the appetizer - this worked out well for my vegetarian friend. It came with a refreshing vinegar sauce with cucumber on the side. I got the Khao Soy with chicken it was flavorful and creamy, even with level 1 spice you can still taste the spice a little bit (don't judge it was so I can share with my toddler) my friend got the spicy eggplant and it came with jasmine rice with level 3 spice and it was that sneaky spice that is also flavorful. Now the star of the show is the mango sticky rice. It looked so pretty with the purple rice topped with condensed milk and half of a perfectly ripe mango. When I passed by recently, I noticed it had been completely remodeled, so we decided to pay it a visit. The newly renovated restaurant looks very different from its previous iteration. It's now modern, cute and whimsical, with updated furniture and a splash of teal at the bar area. It used to be a very dark space, but the refresh made everything bright and airy. Finally found my new favorite Thai place! The pad se ew is saucy and flavorful. The yellow curry is packed with seasoning. Generous serving sizes and affordable prices. I've been here a few times and there is never a wait. The parking lot is small and it can be hard to find a spot but the food is great! The interior is well decorated and the staff are kind. They recognized me the 2nd or 3rd time I visited. One thing I noticed is that when I went with a group our dishes came out sporadically so some of us had to wait quite some time before eating. I recently came here with my family and although I've known about this place for quite some time, this was our very first dining experience. I wasn't expecting to walk into a modern space, but apparently it is now under new ownership and now has a new vibe after undergoing renovations. We ordered a few dishes and they all did not disappoint. Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, and Crispy Chicken Basil, which was everyone's favorite. It still held its crisp texture under all the sweet and savory sauce. We were asked our preference of spice level which for me was mild, but if you like it spicy, you can adjust it to your liking. Portions were just right for a party of 3. Service and staff were polite, friendly, and welcoming. Easily one of the best if not best Thai restaurants in the Portland area. Not only do the classic Thai staples such as pad Thai and green curry taste extra special here, they offer a variety of dishes not found elsewhere. This is the kind of Thai I'd expect to find on the streets of Bangkok. Every bite is filled with flavor and authenticity. Starters: sweet potato puff and spring rolls are excellent. Perfectly crisped, fillings that are bursting out flavor and portion, and the vinegary sauce on the side gives each bite a delectable OOMPH. Thom Yum soup has layers of flavor: tart, tangy, a little fishy. Too much onion for my taste, felt like every bite was full of it. Could skip it honestly. PAD THAI. You can taste the touch of the wok on every noodle, and I loved the judicious use of tamarind. This is not the typical ketchup containing nonsense at so many other Thai restaurants. This tastes like the real deal. The Snow Crab Fried rice was probably my favorite dish. Generous chunks of crab meat infuse the rice with a wonderful seafood flavor. Another highlight: Thai eggplant. Used in both green curry and in the spicy eggplant curry, they cooked it perfectly. Thick, a little chewy, and seasoned just right so you can still appreciate the eggplant flavor. I've been to Rama Thai twice in the past month and it's not lost any luster. It's a smaller restaurant so you get a much more intimate feel under the warm lighting and cheery Thai music in the background. The servers are always smiling and don't bat an eye at every and all requests. We remained well hydrated and were brought many napkins upon each request. I can't wait until my next visit! read more

Rama Thai has a new look! They recently renovated and changed ownership and it looks beautiful inside. I love the trendy and minimal vibe with the light woods and sage green theme, it adds a much needed brightness to the space. The owner greeted us as we came in and explained their menu to us; Northern Thai cuisine with Lao Esan specialties. She suggested that we try some items from each menu, so that is what we did. To start with drinks, we got the Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade, Thai Iced Tea, and a Mango Slushy mocktail. All of them were amazing, especially the Mango Slushy, it's certainly more of a treat plus it's dairy free! As for the Lao food, we tried the Som Tum Lao, Lao Sausage, and Esan Sausage. The som tum was refreshing and spicy, I loved the fishiness in the dish. Although I didn't try the sausages, the accompanying sauces were so flavorful. We also tried the Chicken Satay, Pad Kee Mao, Ka Prow Kai Yeow Ma (ground chicken with preserved eggs), and Ka Na Moo Krob (Chinese broccoli with crispy pork belly). My favorite was the Ka Prow Kai Yeow Ma, it was my first time trying preserved eggs and I love the deep fermented flavor of them. I normally don't get desserts at restaurants but the ones I had here were so worth it! The Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango was so creamy and I love the addition of ube. The Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream was delicious too, the added touch of caramel was divine. I am craving everything from here all over again, I will be coming back! read more

I have been going to Rama Thai for over 7 years and it keeps getting better and better. Under new ownership in the last couple years the food has more flavor and the service is even better. The new remodel is huge improvements and is a place I would want to stay out late or have a nice lunch. The bar/ drink menu looks so good. We ordered a good amount to share between the four of us. Some of the items we ordered were the pork Larb, Lao sausages, grilled pork skewers, BBQ chicken, Tom Yum Soup, Pad Kee Mao, Pad Woon Sen, and mango sticiky rice. The food came out pretty quickly, and everything tasted wonderful. Their medium spice level is actually on the spicier side, which I like. i've been here once before the remodel and once after and i love the new refresh look inside, super modern! we met the new owners of 1 year of the restaurant and they were super nice to everyone and making sure everyone was happy and enjoying their food! i've always ordered take out from rama thai getting the same thing, beef pad thai substituted with wide rice noodle, ordered the same thing in person and its still the best pad thai ive had (10/10)! this time around i also got their massaman curry, chicken wings, and their king's slushie 7.5/10. ive only had the massaman curry one other time at another restaurant so im not entirely sure how its suppose to taste - the curry here was a bit watery and the potatoes had a certain taste to it and the veggies seem to not be cooked completely. 7/10 the wings????? big thick juicy crunchy bangin sauce 10/10!!!! read more

I called and ordered takeout. Pad Thai, salad rolls, and an order of spring rolls. I'm pregnant and that's all I've been looking forward to and I drove 20 minutes to go get it. I didn't think I'd have to do their job for them and make sure everything was in the bag since it was on the receipt taped to the bag and I paid for it all. I drove all the way home and was so excited to eat only to open the bag and see the spring rolls were missing. The crab was flavorful, and they didn't skimp on the amount of crab. The rice was light and fluffy. Pad Thai: This was on the sweeter side so it caught me off guard at first (more used to a tangy flavor), but after a few bites, I honestly didn't mind! Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango: Yummy dessert! I loved the purple rice edition ~ gave the rice a deeper, earthier flavor. Thai Iced Tea: Solid!! I'd definitely come back and check out a few other things on their menu.
