    Black Garlic Classic Ramen

I just moved to Portland, and this is the first place I've eaten out since the move. It was absolutely delicious and everything I needed after a long day of moving. I will definitely be back!

If you're looking for incredible comfort food, Noodle and Tea is an absolute must-visit. The ramen here is outstanding--the noodles have the perfect texture and the broth is rich and deeply flavorful. Pair your meal with their excellent Thai tea for the ultimate experience. The service is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Highly recommend!

Classic tonkotsu ramen. Tempura shrimp. Yum.

2 big order monitors. Options clearly laid out. I wanted takeout. Classic ramen tonkotsu was creamy, very tasty. Tempura shrimp was excellent. Would definitely try rest of their menu. Portions and prices are very good. Especially compared to many places that are getting outrageous in pricing. Posted on the walls, youre asked to bus your own tables, self-service, so they can keep their prices low. Hot sauce, shichimi togarashi, water, etc all there. Service was very welcoming and polite. Lady offered water as I waited. Place has ambiance and is very clean. Menu has enough options for everyone, even a vegetarian ramen. Side dishes are plenty to choose from. Couple of rice and meat dishes. Opened only 8 weeks. Everyone needs to keep this eatery going. Great food at fair prices. No gouging here. You can also customize and build your own ramen. Eat here, get takeout! Places like this deserve to do well.

Definitely check this place out! We came for the frozen thai tea and had a delicious dinner - the classic ramen and chicken karaage bowl were both great. This restaurant is a self service model, but the staff were attentive and kind. It's also well lit and had fun background music. We'll be adding this to our restaurant short list!

This place is honestly amazing! It's right around the corner from my house, and we finally tried it tonight for the first time. It's a very family-friendly spot--while they don't have a dedicated kids' menu, the portions are perfect for sharing. Between the 'build-your-own' options and the reasonably priced appetizers, everyone was happy. The flavor was outstanding, the food arrived quickly, and the service was incredible. We will definitely be back soon!

Appetizers and main menu items look great!

I'm so glad we tried this new ramen spot because it's an absolute gem. The noodles have that perfect, satisfying chew that makes every bite feel intentional, and each bowl is beautifully prepared and presented. The broth is incredibly flavorful--rich without being heavy, and layered in a way that makes you want to savor every spoonful. Their boba tea is also a standout: refreshing, balanced, and not overly sweet, which is surprisingly hard to find. Add in the incredible pricing and the genuinely welcoming owners, and you've got a place that feels like it's going to become a neighborhood favorite fast. Highly recommend.

Each bowl we explored showed depth, balance, and technique, from the richness of the broth to the precision in every topping. Even the non-ramen dishes held their own, thoughtfully executed and full of character. What stood out most was consistency--every dish hitting the mark, every drink complementing the meal perfectly. It's clear there's intention and skill behind every plate that leaves the kitchen. Respect to the chef and the entire team for turning out food that speaks for itself. Cheers The Dutchman

I ordered the red miso, and there was sugar snap peas and asparagus, which is unusual. The individual ingredients themselves were fine but as a whole, it didn't taste like miso or spicy ramen. The overload of vegetables didn't seem to belong in a typical miso ramen dish (my go-to order) and rendered the broth quite bland. My husband ordered the black shoyu ramen, which was pretty one-note. Ota Tofu is one of my favorite spots in Portland for their amazingly fresh tofu, and it's right across from this ramen shop. Sadly, the tofu they used here was fried to a crisp, lost most of its flavor and had an unpleasant, sharp texture.

We tried the pho, which had a rich, flavorful broth with plenty of fresh herbs. The sugar cane shrimp was delicious, generously portioned, and beautifully presented. When I arrived, there was a line out the door, which is always a good sign. Fortunately, it moved quickly. The process is simple: order at the counter, grab your own utensils and water, and then they'll seat you. I ordered the papaya salad and the beef pho. The portions were very generous, and both dishes were delicious. The beef in the pho was sliced a little thicker than I expected, but there was plenty of it, and the broth was flavorful. The papaya salad was the standout--fresh, crisp, and packed with flavor. I highly recommend ordering it. The restaurant also has a cool, funky vibe that adds to the experience. If you're looking for great Vietnamese food in Portland, Luc Lac is absolutely worth the wait.

If you're not downtown, they also have a smaller location on the east side! To start I got the takoyaki, or fried octopus balls. It was crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, with a tender and chewy piece of octopus, topped with a sweet sauce and fish flakes. Yum!! For my main, I wanted to try one of their broth-less udons and chose one of the specials, the Mentaiko kama-tama Udon--house-made flat udon noodles tossed in and onion oil, bonito, and soy dashi sauce. The noodles are topped with Men-taiko (spicy Tarako caviar), soft egg, tobiko, tempura puffs, green onions, and nori. I also added ikura (as recommended). I've never had flat udon noodles or broth-less udon but I'm forever changed. The minimal broth allows the toppings to be the stars of the show, and here was no exception. The flavors were complex, but balanced, and the variety of textures kept me coming back for another bite. The soy dashi sauce was full of umami and a subtle spicy kick, the fish eggs added pops of saltiness, and the tempura puffs and green onions added some crunch and offset the richness from the other toppings. The house-made noodles also made a huge difference, they were chewy but tender, and soaked up the soy dashi perfectly. I could not recommend Shigezo Izakaya enough!

Generous meat portion and it's cooked well. The broths were piping hot and flavorful too. We also tried the Fried Squid Legs and Tsukune. Again, both were delicious and made fresh. Nothing to complain here, we'll definitely be back.

The kitchen brings out steaming bowls incredibly fast, filled with rich broths and excellent toppings with an efficient, straightforward dining style. Tonkotsu Shoyu (4/5): A deeply comforting and classic bowl of ramen. They offer a generous portion of perfectly cooked noodles paired with plenty of fresh vegetables like spinach, green onions, and mushrooms. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly yolky, but the dish would've been elevated even further with a slightly more generous serving of chashu pork. Tonkotsu Red (5/5): A unique variation for those who love a bit of heat. It shares the same chewy noodle and vegetable foundation as the Shoyu, but has a spicy broth that builds and ramps up the more you slurp. The heat was a distinct, subtle numbing sensation reminding me of Sichuan peppercorns, creating an incredibly flavorful and unique twist on a traditional tonkotsu base. Logistics Tip: This is a fast and casual self-service setup where you walk right up to the counter upon entering to order from the menu displayed on the wall.
