This branch just opened up in our neighborhood and it's great! We got the Khao Soi and Pad See Ew. Both had bold amazing flavors. The chicken in Khao Soi was disappointing since we expected pieces rather than the whole pieces and they weren't as flavorful as the broth they were in. Wish it was a little more spicy but nothing that couldn't fixed with some chili oil! The take out notification was quick to come thru and it was ready for pick up within 15 mins for us! We used to have a few favorite Thai restaurants, but they either closed or transfer ownership thru out the years. In an attempt to find our favorite Thai food, we went online and found Khao Yai Thai Kitchen with good reviews. We drove 20 minutes to the Progress Ridge area and found parking right away. The store front was small but there was plenty of seating in the back. We were greeted by two servers and they took our order right away. There were so many selections on their menu and everything looked delicious. We ended up getting the deep fried tofu appetizer, the pineapple fried rice, the pork pad see ewe and a brownie with coconut ice cream. Every dish was served quickly and perfectly cooked. It came in a smaller container and was barely half full! $16 for what we ordered and received was ridiculous. Not normal as we order this often and it was shockingly almost a half order. Tried Khao Yai Thai Kitchen and wow... this place does not hold back on flavor. Everything tasted fresh, bold, and truly Thai. The crispy pork stir-fry is -- perfectly crunchy, super savory, and easily the best in the area (my husband is obsessed). Pad Krapow was done right with fragrant basil and a legit crispy fried egg, and the fish Pad Cha had that unmistakable Thai herb aroma with a nice spicy kick. If you're into real Thai food and not the watered-down stuff, this spot is a must. We're already planning our next visit. read more

This review is for the Hillsboro location that recently opened. I ate there five times, ordering two different items each time. There wasn't a single item I enjoyed. They very much missed the mark with "Thai Spicy" levels as none of them had any heat. I also ordered Pad Thai with shrimp and the shrimp were definitely past their prime. I didn't get sick, but expected to. There are 4 better Thai restaurants locally, even thogh the decor isn't as nice as Khao Yai Thai Kitchen. The ONLY bright side for me was the lovely Maria at the bar who tried her hardest to make the food work for me. read more

Okay so let me start by saying the FOOD is amazing. Every time I go, the food is phenomenal. It has rich flavor. It's fresh. The veggies are phenomenal. We ALL know that lately you're getting less food on the plate and paying more. It's happening everywhere. We definitely got less. Especially with my Miang Kham. It used to be MORE and now it isn't. But the food is still delicious. The service is about 2 stars. It's just never more than okay or meh. I wanted another glass of wine, it took forever to get someone's attention. I was craving Thai food. I had a pet sit that I said I would be there at 1:30 in the Progress Ridge area and I was an hour early. So I drove in the parking lot where New Seasons is to see what restaurants were there. I found Khao Yai Thai Kitchen! When I first entered, the dining area was in an L shape, so it didn't appear to have a lot of space. But it was really clean. Happy to see that the seats are padded. I was seated at a 2 top, and a carafe of water and a glass was promptly brought out. I looked at the menu, it was a little confusing at first. The V shaped leaf denoted that it was vegan. I only saw a couple dishes that had this. I saw on another dish that it could be made vegan by request. It didn't say that next to the dish that I was thinking of ordering. One of my favorite Thai dishes is the Pad Kee Mao. When the server asked if I was ready, I asked if the Pad Kee Mao could be veganized, and he said yes. So that is what I ordered. I got the medium spice level. It was really piping hot when he brought it to my table.. just the way I like it! The flavor was really good, and it tasted fresh. The spice level was spicy enough that my nose began to run, but it wasn't overwhelming. Service was really good with the server checking in with me throughout the meal. He topped my water off with the carafe on the table. I liked the convenience of the carafe, but never thought to pour water in my glass. I have intended to try this place all the 4 years we've been in Oregon, but just haven't, and after not so great and super expensive Thai I just kind of gave up on it here. Friday, we decided to get takeout and were near progress ridge, and decided to pop into the shopping center to see if anything sounded good. Alas, there's a new wing stop so just husband was sold. So I thought finally, let's try this Thai place! Got my obligatory pumpkin curry and beef, and mango sticky rice. Both were very good. The curry, very flavorful, albeit in need of a little salt, but that's ok - we don't eat a lot of salt and takeout sometimes doesn't feel so great because it has a lot. The mango sticky rice - good, black rice a little al dente for me but a-ok. Fast forward to today - on my way home from a nail appointment and my husband and I are texting about dinner plans and he asks where are you - I say progress ridge, and he says what do you want? I said maybe Thai but I know you don't want that- want wing stop? Sure enough he looks at the website and says I want to try the Khao Soi and the sweet potato appetizer. What?! This guy has never once had Thai with me in 19 years! So, I decided to try something different and got the massaman curry, and the pad se ew noodles as well with shrimp. So I ordered everything pretty sure he wouldn't like it (but I would) and Khao Yai folks - HE LOVED IT. For me, never tried that kind of curry and may never get anything else.... Sooooooo delicious, roti, amazing. Pad se ew noodles - great. Didn't need them but they'll make a great lunch or second dinner. I have driven past this establishment many times wondering if it's good. Finally my wife and I did a quick dinner date here. It was fantastic! The food was so delicious and had that delicious Smokey flavor. The Pad See Ewe and Pad Khee Mao had the perfect ratios of sauce, meat, and veggies. The staff were also really good. We keep trying to find great Thai food. It should not be difficult, but it is. We know of one good place, but we're not so sure about their health practices, so we cast about and tried this one. Thai food should not be bland, especially when one orders it spicy. This was bland--it's that simple. The service was fine; friendly, prompt. The ambience was, well...nothing wrong with it, but nothing immersive. I do give them a ton of credit for cleanliness. I've been in places where I've said "if your bathrooms get any filthier you will need to open a gas station," and that would be totally out of line here. Hair nets, clean floors, all good that way. In the end, it all comes down to the food, and this was not bad but not special. It was just another Portland average Thai place, no more and no less. We'll keep looking. read more

We used to have a regular Thai spot in Cedar Hills, but unfortunately it went downhill. We've eaten here a couple of times now--even picking it for our traditional Christmas Eve takeout in 2025--and it's quickly become a favorite. The food is hot, fresh, and well-seasoned, and they offer gluten-free options, which is essential for our family due to Celiac disease. It's also much closer than the place we used to frequent. Crispy chicken was really good and flavorful. pretty fire however drunken noodle was a bit disappointing and lackluster where some of the wide noodles were not coated with sauce or stifried evenly. Beef was overcooked and some pieces of noodle was more stiff than others and stuck together where was some were a bit more thoroughly cooked and soft. Would not order this again. Pricing wise it's more pricey than quality's worth which was a bit disappointing since there's been good reviews and rating. The flavoring and sauce in the chicken was heavier and so the left over sauce from that we poured it onto the noodles that were more white or coloring is less dark compared to the other pieces. I went there for lunch and got there at 2:33pm. I saw the sign that said they closed at 3pm (before opening again for dinner). I thought I still had enough time, but felt rushed to order from the server. He said the kitchen closed in 10 minutes. I didn't want to feel rushed or not welcomed which I did as soon as I walked in. I told him I'd just leave since they were closing soon. They should just close at 2;30 if it's an annoyance to serve anyone after that. A new Thai spot in Progress Ridge area. Inside is small but cozy. They got bar seatings by their kitchen to observe some live cooking with your meal but also a few tables towards the back of the place. The smells and sounds of cooking permeate the place, adding to the ambience. I'm generally pretty picky when it comes to Thai food and I think they did a really good job here! The Som Tum Thai was nice and spicy (eventhough we ordered medium so be aware!). Papaya was crispy, dressing was refreshing. Think this was my favorite dish of the meal. The Crispy Basil Chicken was also a fun dish. Not traditionally Thai but still tasty. The chicken pieces were indeed crispy, some of the smaller ones may have been too crispy making them dry but, all in all, a pretty good dish. I like that it wasn't overly sweet eventhough it's a more Americanized dish and they're very generous with the protein portion. We tried the Khao Soi with Beef as well. Again, tons of beef slices in the dish. They're a tad chewy for my liking though. The curry was also too thick for Khao Soi, imo, but flavors were good. Noodles were also nice. Would get spicy or extra spicy on this one for a more authentic taste. Staffs were all very friendly and hardworking, checking in frequently. This is a neighborhood favorite and my husband and I like to go out on Friday nights after a long week of work. I ordered something new, the steak salad with extra steak. I felt like it needed more greens and the steak was served room temperature almost cold. I liked the salad dressing flavor, a good acidic. I am glad I tried it but probably wouldn't order it again. My husband ordered his standard, massaman curry with tofu with rice and a side of roti. This entree always scores a 10/10. The flavors are rich, deep, a little sweet and so aromatic. We also decided to try a new dessert, sticky rice with mango and mango ice cream. This is my new favorite - it reminds me of a Filipino dessert that I grew up eating.
