The server was great. Very pleasant. The Cod was outstanding. Salads were great. The sangria was the way to start.

Impeccable service! We were waited on by Matthew and he was wonderfully attentive, friendly, and made our experience top notch. He is a gem at Tonno. Food was incredible! The best bolognese I've had in years. The halibut special was amazing - a wonderful medley of fall flavors and I would highly recommend. For appetizers, the calamari was great. Two individuals at our table split dishes (tagliatelle and halibut) and our server had them plated on two separate dishes for each person, which made it much easier to share - loved that attention to detail and great service. The restaurant had a great vibe and was super lively. When you are looking for a dinner restaurant in downtown Gloucester, I would highly recommend Tonno!

Ah, Tonno which translates to Tuna in Italian. I bet you did not know that lol! Another restaurant we dined while on vacation. I wish I had better news for this one but I will say my Nebbiolo wine was superb and I did enjoy the salad. Oh and the ambiance was also quite nice! Overall, this Italian restaurant is no North End, but I heard their head Chef left to open up a nearby restaurant so some locals mentioned the quality went down. I guess we'll see! We wanted to like it here, but after ordering their Chicken Parmigiana and having to send it back because it was overcooked...Mama Mia! My grandmother would be very upset! And don't get me started on the sauce. I mean c'mon how hard can it be. Ugh! The only could thing to come out of this was the service, which was quite impeccable and it was quite busy for a Monday night. I probably would give them another shot if we're ever done here again, but hopefully their Chef knows how to cook by then. We can only hope!

The wife was away tonight so off to Tonnos. Sat at the bar for $1.00 oysters (24) and the grilled octopus which was spectacular. My vodka martini was made perfectly as always. All my new friends at the bar were also commenting on how good their meals were. The tuna steak looked pretty good too. Highly recommend Tonnos in Gloucester

Food is always amazing. The staff is fantastic fantastic. I'm blanking on the names but there are two servers/ bartenders who are incredible. Ambience is dim and the crowd is lively but orderly. We sat at the bar and had a great time, the drinks are delicious and they serve one of the crispest Maine lunch beers I've had in a while. The food is of course impeccable. Previous visits have seen salads, mushroom risotto, ricotta, arancini, among others. Always great, will be back.

Went here for the first time last night, AMAZING food and specials, our server was so nice and knowledgeable, they had a lobster ravioli special for $40 and I cannot get over how many there were and huge, I was expecting a tiny portion, such an insanely good value.

Everything was a treat! Ken our waiter so very polite , knowledgeable and pleasant. Not to mention delightful and sweetly cute. The food outstanding but we were full after the antipasto which was enormous. The bread fresh and my veal delicious as was husband's salmon. We had to choke down our cannolis because we were so full but couldn't leave without trying one or two but worth every bite! The wine we ordered was from Multipuciano, Italy which was a favorite spot to enjoy while we were in Italy. All in all what a treat. We shall return

Had an excellent experience and birthday dinner at Tonno last night! We wanted to eat on the earlier side and arrived around 5pm so we were seated right away and it was very quiet Our waitress was lovely but I unfortunately don't remember her name. She gave us a lot of time to look through the menu and make decisions. They have a decent sized menu and options for daily specials as well The complimentary focaccia and oil they bring you is delicious. My partner had an espresso martini I forgot to get a photo of but she loved it and I had the Italian 75 spritz which was nice also For food she got the chicken parm. She said it was one of the best she's had. The piece of chicken was gigantic, the sauce was flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly though we agreed for both our dishes they could've included more pasta I chose one of the specials, the lobster and butternut squash with rigatoni. It was absolutely delicious! The lobster was fresh and they give you a decent amount and the butternut squash was so flavorful. I would 100% get this dish again and I'll probably be thinking about it for awhile We didn't get dessert because we had cupcakes waiting for us back home. Overall it was a wonderful experience with delicious food and attentive, friendly service!

Visited this spot on a work trip and was excited to try all the seafood here! The seafood platter appetizer was a hit for my team as it offered various arrangements of seafood that we could try without having to order too many dishes. The seafood was fresh and tasty. However I didn't like the clam it was too fishy. Our host who was a local recommended the pumpkin latte and oh my, it was delicious!! So creamy and sweet, perfect for the fall. The rest of the food was delicious and the vibes and employees were great too.

What a great spot! Was visiting family and they suggested we all go there as it's one of their favorite places! I can see why. The building itself is pretty cool. Right on a main drag with a small parking area, street parking and a lot across the street. The decor is nice and comfortable, the wait staff and bartenders are wonderful, engaging and knowledgeable. We ordered : Cocktails and Wine 3 flatbread pizzas Chicken parm Veal saltimboca An assortment of seafood bar bites ( my cousin made himself a customized platter) Raw oysters, broiled oysters, tuna tar tar on a type of taco). He said it was all amazing. I tried the broiled oyster and it was melt in your mouth delicious. I will order some next time for sure! Yes there def will be a next time! Check it out if you are in Gloucester Ma. We are for sure going back. Bonus. You can purchase pistachio martinis that are already bottled to go! Yes we did.

Hungry and with no time for deeper research, we decided to try Causeway Restaurant after seeing its high Yelp rating. The restaurant shares a small front parking lot with White Farms Ice Cream, but fortunately, we easily found parking in the back. Our first impression was that the place feels quite outdated. The tables are packed very closely together, making it difficult to get to your seat or even visit the bathroom without accidentally brushing against other diners. There's also only one bathroom for the entire restaurant, and it could definitely use some refreshing. The biggest issue during our visit was the heat. It was 86°F outside, and unfortunately, the air conditioning wasn't working. The restaurant was very hot, and I genuinely felt bad for the staff who had to cook and serve in those conditions. We also felt like the cutlery, dishes, and glasses were a little outdated and could use a refresh. Updating these small details would make the overall experience feel even nicer. On the positive side, Causeway is BYOB, which is a nice option. According to the menu, they charge $1 per glass for beer and wine setup. The menu prices are comparable to those at much fancier seafood restaurants. We ordered cheeseburgers from the kids' menu (ours were supposed to be medium but came out a little burnt), as well as smelt and fish-and-shrimp platters. The seafood itself was fresh, although we felt it could have used a little more seasoning and salt. The absolute best part of our experience was the service. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. Our server was especially attentive and wonderful with the kids. We even noticed how warmly she greeted regular customers and treated them almost like family. That kind of hospitality really stands out. Overall, I think Causeway has a lot of potential. The fresh seafood and excellent staff are a great foundation, but the restaurant would benefit significantly from some renovations, better spacing between tables, a refreshed bathroom, and working air conditioning. With those improvements, the fairly high menu prices would feel much more justified.

Don't get me wrong, our waitress was polite, but every time we mentioned something, there just wasn't any follow-through. I had asked for extra bread and a new napkin and they never arrived. I also wasn't offered fresh pepper and had to ask for Parmesan cheese, which made things feel a little off. I ordered the Linguine ai Frutti di Mare with clams, calamari, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and a lobster tail. The seafood itself was cooked pretty well, but the pasta was heavily overcooked, which was such a bummer because we come here at least twice a year and usually look forward to it. Afterward, I asked if the pasta was homemade and was told you have to specifically request that. I feel like that's something that should be mentioned upfront when ordering. Also, I forgot to mention they add radishes to the salad and no one asked about allergies. As someone who considers a well-constructed savory cocktail one of life's finer pursuits, I was genuinely excited. The hostess was lovely, warm even, but informed me that without a dinner reservation, the bar wouldn't be available until 9 pm. I was not welcome to simply sit and have a drink. I asked -- politely, I'd like to think -- whether an exception might be made. I was only in town for the weekend and promised that I could be in and out in twenty minutes but the answer was an unambiguous 'no'. There's something particularly unwelcoming about turning away a solo guest who has sought you out specifically for something only your restaurant offers. I came because Carmine does something nobody else does, at least nowhere I've found. And I was unceremoniously turned away with nothing to show for it. I understand the math. A Saturday evening at a restaurant like this lives and dies by full dinner covers, and a solo drinker nursing a cocktail for twenty minutes does not move the needle. But hospitality, real hospitality, has never been purely a numbers exercise. The irony is that I adore this restaurant. The food is spectacular, full stop. Had I possessed a second stomach, I would have happily demolished the Tonno Royale Spaghettini without a moment's hesitation. Carmine has earned genuine loyalty from me as a diner. But a Spicy Sicilian remains, for now, on my list of unfinished business -- and that is a small, specific disappointment I wasn't expecting to leave with.
