We had a most delifghtful experience Memorial Day Weekend. Owner greeted us and gave us a perfect table overlooking the harbor. Food and service were outstanding. It is the best location in Gloucester we have gone there for many years and this new ownership seems to be the best yet! We enjoyed very specially prepared mussels with the french bread and then the white clam pizza and the best iceberg lettuce with a very unique special dressing. Never had food like this anywhere and we are fussy New Yorkers! The wait staff was very friendly, accommodating and professional. Can't wait to go back! read more

First time writing a review on any restaurant , but my experience at 51 surly warrens it . I was told that it was over priced , but wanted to see what they had done with the old Studio , a real favorite of mine . I ordered the Gazpacho , and Cucumber Salad . The Gazpacho was V8 juice , with olive oil on top , the cucumber was just that a cucumber , cut in chunks with a smear of not sure what it was on the plate . I asked for some break , and was told it was already in the Gazpacho as a thickener . My date did get a salad which was quite good . At the end of the meal I asked if I could see the manager , he came over in a huff and asked me my problem . I said I was a bit confused about my salad , and Gazpacho , he quickly told me that he was in the culinary business in 8 different countries , and that's how it's done . I told him I'd be ashamed to serve theses items at this price , and he replied that he sleeps very well with his Shame ! Not sure if the GM , and the owner are the same person , but first of all dress a little more appropriately if you feel as though you're running such an up scaled restaurant . I think by the number of people in the restaurant on a sunny day , late June speaks volumes . Your day are numbered ! read more

Beautiful ocean view restaurant! 51 Rocky Neck is located on the water in Gloucester overlooking the harbor. We came here for my husband's birthday. We shared a salad to start and for entrees I ordered their Scallops which were cooked to perfection but the sauce they were in was a bit much. My husband had their burger which was also good. Service wasn't great or attentive and since it was my husband's birthday you would think they would do something nice for him but they didn't. We did have a nice table on the water but that was all. We ended up going someplace else for dessert but we did enjoy our dinner with a view! read more

My wife and I just got up from our anniversary dinner there. She gave them a heads up that would be coming in and they set aside an incredible table and the chef made us unique appetizers that were not on the menu to help celebrate our anniversary. One was lamb and the other one was a delicious shrimp appetizer. We absolutely loved our dinner and the attention we were given. We'll definitely go back there again. read more

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The patio has wonderful views and is incredibly nice. Absolutely no complaints there! Service was friendly but very slow and inattentive. I wanted to love this place but it fell short and at an expensive price. The dishes come at a hefty price and fall short with flavors, sides, and portions. The one star was purely for the niceness of the staff. The food was absolutely horrible. Salt is their only spice. The mussels tasted as if they were cooked in harbor water. The chicken sandwich was two small chicken tenders in oil drenched bread with a garl(icky) sauce. My wife literally ate two bites. My burger (I know it's hard to mess up a burger) tasted old, maybe freezer burned. One and done for us, we are locals. Oh did I mention, it was also expensive and the beer selection minimal. First visit to to this newcomer which is in the rocky neck section of Gloucester which was originally the studio restaurant. Beautiful do over of the inside and outdoor deck. Staff was friendly and attentive the food just average unfortunately. Ordered the lamb chops which were closer to medium than the medium rare I ordered.the plating was kinda sloppy with tzatziki sauce,mint apple sauce and mushy overcooked Brussels (not crispy as advertised)the mortadella sandwich was on point and the oysters fresh and cold. I think if we return we'll stick to a few small plates and a drink. 150$ for two with no alcoholic beverages. A little steep.parking is not easy in the summer, taking the water taxi is recommended. read more

This restaurant is situated in part of Gloucester's large harbor, and it is very quaint. Walking to it from the public parking lot, you pass beautiful houses and art galleries. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the host. Very handsome, too. The bar is very large and busy. The dining area is lovely. The walls are adorned with a vast collection of beautiful art. The ladies' room has stunning nautical wallpaper, too. Our server was great. I had the Sicilian Cod, and my husband had the Chicken Martini. Both entrees were well portioned and delicious. He also ordered a side of fries, which were very ordinary and sparse and shouldn't cost $8.00. After seeing a review from Taste of Massachusetts we had to try for ourselves, 51 Rocky Neck did not disappoint.... The monkey paw , my Thai with dark rum and honey was delicious, The upscale twist on home made sandwiches was one of the best eats we've had in a while, the mortadella sandwich and with mustard was mouth watering, the crispy crust on the egg salad sandwich was amazing really enjoyed the potato salad definitely made fresh . My favorite was the Barada berry salad with arugula and sea salt. We held the pepper on my preference and it was absolutely perfect, definitely worth the 2 Hour drive. Some restaurant notes it is handicapped accessible inside and out , the staff was on point, well staffed, holding doors and being timely with drinks and food, all with a genuine smile. not sure how to do, but there was also a water taxi available. be mindful parking is tight reservations highly recommended can't wait to go back to try more of the dinners. read more

As many others are saying: totally beautiful inside and out. The vibe is welcoming and fresh with a stunning outdoor seating area, beautiful views of the water inside, a gorgeous bar and lots of natural light. Staff was friendly and attentive but food fell short for me. Husband said his chicken sandwich was good but not great. My salad was eh and for $22 I would have preferred to see tuna that didn't look like someone forked it from a can. The lettuce was probably 2 large slices of bib under all of the toppings. It really just lacked flavor. Even my aperol spritz was kind of bland and watered down. Not that punchy taste you get with aperol usually. I'm all for giving multiple shots but it seems like this is the one area most other Yelpers are let down by... read more

The 51 is located in Rocky neck along the inner Gloucester harbor. The outdoor area offers amazing panoramic views. We sat at the outside bar. The staff is young, well trained, friendly and look smart in their 51 attire. The cocktails are expertly made. The halibut in the coconut broth was 5/5. I ordered the tuna Niscoise which I loved. The frito misto is quite different. It has minimal batter. The fried sage leaves elevate the dish. We loved it. The place is not cheap but for a similar cost of other Gloucester restaurants , this may be my favorite. read more

What can I say? The chef is talented and the service was excellent. (Tuesday at 6pm) Nice vibe and eclectic mellow music. An excellent date night. The rib eye was to die for. When you find yourself looking up seasoning like Furikake that comes on the wedge salad and tastes amazing, it's a golden discovery. I wish them success and will be back. read more

Beyond disappointing. I won't go into a long diatribe, as I own (ironically) a local tourism business and don't have enough time or energy for negativity. But I will state this: I have been going to "The Studio" (yes, that what we locals call it still!) my entire adult life. I have brought family members, friends, clients (lots of them - and I tell everybody that I come in contact with to go there). I've had friends throw both an engagement party and a birthday party for me, and I have organized parties for others at The Studio. I have gone to The Studio to enjoy musician friends playing music. We dock our boat there to have lunch/dinner. My problem now: The "Manager/Owner" As hard as I've tried to be friendly, conversational, explain what I do as a local destination tour operator, the owner/manager just doesn't get it. Apparently, the owner/manager fails to realize that he is actually in what we like to call, the Hospitality Industry. This was the final nail in the proverbial coffin: Yesterday my friend and I got overcharged for a cocktail. The female bartender was rude. It did rain and so all bartenders were inside - five total and yet we still weren't waited on.) My friend and I made a joke of it and explained what we wanted. The details are too long (as you can see, this also is way too long already!) but we were charged $22.50 each for a drink that was not what we ordered. She eventually talked to the manager (since we needed her to do that or we weren't leaving) and he couldn't care less. Could not care less. Hospitality - according to data from Oxford Languages - is a noun meaning, "the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers." Thankfully, the remainder of Rocky Neck is still as special, and warm-hearted as ever. And I am grateful for that. read more

Ambiance was great and server was super nice. Food was extremely mediocre and expensive. $50 for a lobster roll that was basically lobster on bread, no flavor. Worst restaurant experience my husband and I ever had . The outdoor patio looked lovely but we had heard that it might rain so decided to stay inside. Most of the attention was spent on the outdoor crowd which was fine. But no one was there to manage the room when three horribly intoxicated women came in and were sat near us. Even that wasn't that big a deal until they started to get aggressive with us for no apparent reason. No manager or anyone was there to intervene. It ruined our evening because we had to deal with these intoxicated ladies ( and I use that word loosely) by ourselves. My husband is actually one of Boston's best chefs and we have our own food segment in the news. We would never come back to such a poorly managed place. Not to mention the food was mediocre at best. And way too expensive $49 for dry halibut! Yuck! Also we called to complain and no one cared to get back to us. Probably afraid we wanted another meal ...no thanks. We live in Glosta and have made sure we told all our friends that this was not worth going to ever! read more
