Was visiting from out of town and found this place on Yelp. Had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. Happy to say they deserved all the great reviews they've received. I had their sea Bass special with their house maid angel hair pasta, along with a carafe of their house Chianti. It was excellent! My wife had the chicken parm, which was a very large portion and she loved it. Service was excellent as well, and pricing was reasonable for the quality of the food and service received. The calamari was great, crispy and flavorful, definitely a highlight, although I feel like the recipe may have changed a bit, but I could be wrong. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was polite, but every time we mentioned something, there just wasn't any follow-through. I had asked for extra bread and a new napkin and they never arrived. When my boyfriend asked for more water, she responded along the lines of she was about to do it, which came off like it was an inconvenience. I also wasn't offered fresh pepper and had to ask for Parmesan cheese, which made things feel a little off. I ordered the Linguine ai Frutti di Mare with clams, calamari, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and a lobster tail. The seafood itself was cooked pretty well, but the pasta was heavily overcooked, which was such a bummer because we come here at least twice a year and usually look forward to it. Afterward, I asked if the pasta was homemade and was told you have to specifically request that. I feel like that's something that should be mentioned upfront when ordering. Also, I forgot to mention they add radishes to the salad and no one asked about allergies. When I got mine, there was a big radish in it and I just had to hope I removed them all, which wasn't a great feeling. I don't know what changed, but overall this visit just felt a little disappointing compared to what we're used to. read more

Villaggio in Manchester was excellent from start to finish. We ordered the lasagna, eggplant rollatini, meatballs, and a chicken Caesar salad, and every dish was spot on. The lasagna was rich, hearty, and clearly homemade, the eggplant rollatini was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the meatballs were tender with great seasoning. Even the chicken Caesar salad stood out -- fresh, well-balanced, and generously portioned. You can really tell they take pride in their food. The Villaggio was one of our favorites in Manchester before we moved out of state. We came back for a weekend (after 7 years) and it was still the high quality restaurant we remembered. Everything was delicious, service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm. Another bonus was affordability. We were afraid our favorite dessert might have come off the menu but that was not the case. We highly recommend the ice cream bombes. They have 3-4 types to choose from in addition to other desserts. My wife and I went in hoping for a little Boston North End vibe without leaving Manchester's North End (live close by) on Valentine's Day Eve with reservations (yes, Villaggio, you have my phone number). The food: Mostly hit as we hoped! Chicken parm was great, marinara was excellent! The surprise was the bolognese on my partner's spaghetti side, which was a bit bland, expected the opposite - both were still great to be clear. Chicken Caesar salad was on point as much as a salad can be. ;) The service: This is the real issue. Only two of us, and about 5 seconds after giving my drink order (while my partner was still ordering her drink) and getting a initial look of disapproval when ordering water on the waitress's first pass (wanted to look at the drink menu), I asked to swap the liquor in my Olde Fashion to something she mentioned under her breath when I first ordered it (took me a minute to process it). The waitress said it was "too late" with her handheld because it's instantly sent to the bar. If that's true, that's a pretty bad system, efficiency be damned. We were within earshot of many other tables - our waitress didn't explain dishes or specials like we saw/heard other servers doing (left us feeling regretful with our food choices), and she tried to take my card before I even opened the bill... this is after telling us we had to wait 15 minutes for a second round of bread (haha, which showed up 35 minutes later - petty, but annoying). Things were bad enough with the waitress that we actually asked to box up our mains shortly after receiving them (ate less than 10% of either). This was our second visit (first was takeout, which was great) and our first time dining in. Being in Customer Service and having a history in the restaurant industry, on the way out (after paying and tipping, aka not looking for a discount), I hesitated walking out the door and turned to ask for a manager. The front-of-house host said he'd speak as the manager and responded to everything with a sarcastic "that's unfortunate" / "that's our standards" / "that's too bad" / and sent us on our way. Not big complainers, hate doing it, but this one stuck with us, especially with the high praise and relatively premium prices this restaurant seemingly gets online -- bad taste service-wise, great taste food-wise. Looking around, most of the customers are of an older demographic, and again, most of the waitstaff seemed awesome (especially compared to ours). Would absolutely get the food again. However, as someone that lives on the North End of Elm St, I would never dine in again if this is what they consider acceptable service... what more can we do besides speak up about our concerns, after settling the tab... being told that's "normal" is gross in my opinion. Working in restaurants in the past, if that's their standard, then I distrust their entire approach to service. read more

Well, that was a disappointment, to say the least. No issues with the taste of the food or the service during the meal. But ... after coming home after a tasty dinner my wife got violently ill. Am I certain beyond any doubt that it was food poisoning from the meal? No. Do I think it's overwhelmingly probable? Yes. Simply cereal for breakfast, same as always. No lunch. Nothing for dinner other than what she was served there. And nothing afterward until the unfortunate stomach rejection of all that had been placed in it. What makes me react with a 1 star is that my prior rating was 5 and so if we average, we get 3. Which is likely above what I'd give it were just the single visit with illness included but whatever - seems logical. And the reason isn't simply the food poisoning - that's something that can happen at the best of places. The problem was the response of the restaurant. My first call got someone who told me the manager wouldn't be in for five days and then simply hung up before he'd heard anything more than "could I please speak with the manager?" The next call was ignored and the third call stood up! (Sorry, Monty Python reference). The third call actually got a woman who assured me that it's impossible for my wife to have been food poisoned. The reason being that nobody else had been. When I pointed out that scallops are pretty much one to a customer she held firm. In fact she assured me that because they take such great care it's impossible to have been their fault and proceeded to relate how her child had come home with norovirus and that's what it undoubtedly was. And I'll agree the two have similar symptoms but not identical and the onset and extent of both are different. Zero issue, then a sudden upchucking a couple of hours after eating and nothing following that ... food poisoning. Then she explained to me that there was nothing they could possibly do and when I said that there certainly was, that most restaurants I know of would apologize and comp her meal, that again fell on very deaf ears. And that's basically the crux. When I go to a nice restaurant and choose that one amongst all the choices, part of the choice is always the people. How the interactions are when things go right and how they are when things go less right. And beyond my own feelings, it's not a fantastic approach to blow a customer with a serious issue off because that ensures an end to what would otherwise be a steady string of further meals and further profit for the restaurant. Even if I KNEW the customer was wrong, I'd comp their meal simply because the negative publicity from that customer does me no good and taking a small one time loss for multiple future profits is pretty much a no brainer. To start with, I didn't go to the restaurant this time, but I have in the past, it's a beautiful restaurant - but, I just recently moved back to the area, and tonight, ordered via Door Dash. I wasn't sure if it would be as good, as well, DD, and delivery. But...this is by far the best order that I have had delivered by DD since I moved to the area, and maybe ever!! To start with the delivery was much faster than the estimated time, which is much appreciated, and surprising for a Sunday night! The pictures usually never look like the real thing, but in this case, the food actually looked (and tasted) better! The chicken Pollo Parmigiana, had lots of cheesy goodness on it, the sauce was excellent, and the upgrade of linguine carbonara was perfect! It is hard to find a place that can make carbonara, and getting it through delivery is tricky. Villaggio nailed it. The eggplant Melanzana Rollatini was also incredible. Honestly, I wanted to eat the whole thing, because the filling had the perfect blend of spices, ricotta, and other cheeses, but I am saving it for the next couple of days. Some of the group had been here before, for others like me it was the first time. The place was very noisy for our first hour. The accompaniments were perfect. However, the Burata was very firm and more like store bought than the softer, creamier fresh cheese we've had before) Mains: I ordered a special, sea bass with shrimp. It was absolutely delicious. The kitchen cooks everything to order so it was no problem for them to exclude peppers from my meal. This was a surprisingly pricey dish at $48 but I don't regret it! Veal Parm: ordered by half the table, I tasted my husband's and am glad I didn't order it. Taste was good but way tougher than expected. Seafood pasta: I didn't try it but will next time. It looked fabulous and the one person in our party who ordered it was very pleased. The place may not look like much from the outside but that all changes ounce you walk through the door. Honestly this place has the best Alfredo I have had. The service takes a while but thats because it is always so packed, but also because they have fancy food. We waited a full 10 minutes without being touched at all. No water no bread. He came took our drink order and was gone. Bread drinks came then he rattled off the specials so quickly I just went with the last one. Food came out super hot then we sat and sat waiting for him to check on us NOPE sat longer and he waited in a table behind but never checked. Despite frequenting this restaurant multiple times, we recently had an experience there that caused us to NEVER return. It is unfortunate, since their food is delicious. Two weeks ago today around mid-afternoon, wife and I headed over for an early dinner. There were only three other people at the bar and one server. Two men, sitting on opposite sides of the bar, who had obviously been overserved, were yelling back and forth. They were inappropriate on a few occasions. We did the right thing by asking the bartender to ask them to please quite down. She spoke with one of the men, who began to complain to the other about our complaint. It got worse. Our server was laughing and smiling about their comments and she informed us that they were regulars. There was no doubt about that. At one point, the man to my immediate left (a fat and vile drunken reprabate, yelled back across the bar that if we didn't like their behavior, we should not show up on a Sunday afternoon. Our server said nothing to them. I requested that our food be packaged to go. When one man left, it quieted down and we stayed for dinner. We will never return, and if you're looking for a place to enjoy a comfortable good meal, stay away from Villagios on Sunday afternoon. I do plan on filing a formal complaint with the NH Liquor Commission for further investigation. read more

We were seated 10 minutes early at a beautiful candle lit dinner with fresh flowers. Our server Gabrielle was the best waitress we have ever had at any restaurant. She was incredibly sweet, caring and attentive. I was geniuenly blown away by how great she was! We tried a bunch of stuff and even tried a white chocolate raspberry martini and it was perfection.
