I used to love this place but its quality has been going downhill in the last two years after they have been acquired by a private equity group. Two examples of shady pricing practices they use lately: 1. Buy 1 get 1 free. well a lot of times the price is hugely inflated during B1G1 so the net price are even higher. 2. Digital coupons. They have been using digital coupon on more and more of their sales. This is a total waste of time. What's more, they separately similar sales items into many different coupons, so you thought you clipped the coupon, but in reality it was for a different flavor so it is not applicable!!! needlessly to say, I will stop shopping at this supermarket and advise you to do so too. read more

I used love shopping at this particular Tony's until the last 5 shopping trips. You have to check your receipts due to errors on their end. You are told the sale prices will come up at the end. Guess what not true. My last shopping trip I had to stand at the customer service desk for 17 minutes to get the prices corrected. Over $15.00 worth of errors. A. They need to correct pricing throughout the store to reflect what is at checkout (I get errors happen, but it's out of hand here) B. When you see a line at customer service desk (get additional help up there). C. Check your gourmet cheese section for dates. I purchased cheese that was to expire within 2 days of my purchase. I get everyone is short handed but these issues shouldn't fall on the consumer. I see plenty of the employees standing around up front not doing anything especially "customer service employees". read more

Great grocery store carrying many different items. Super produce department and love the sale prices each week. Employees are friendly and interested in helping you find items or get a right price for a sale item. It is hard to find "good help" in our current time but somehow Tony's managed to get the best of the best. Hats off especially to Jeff the manager and All the gals and guys who man the self checkout area.....sometimes helping out 6 people at a time. **RACIST** With a FULL cart ready for checkout NO CASHIERS open @8am. Asked Front desk for assistance and was told cashiers will be arriving at 8:30am. So I went to self checkout with my $300 worth cart. Then comes a Caucasian customer (with half full cart) to ask them to help check him out. Tony's Manager gets a cashier out to charge the Caucasian customer @ 8:10am. When I confronted manager his response was "todays my first day." This is beyond unprofessional this is Racism. read more

Very disappointing. I've bought fresh grated cheese here several times, only to find mold in it when I got home or just a few days later when the expiration date was a good couple weeks out. My last visit (and I do mean my last) I purchased a stick of Kerrygold garlic herb Irish butter (quite expensive) only to throw it out the same day because it was rancid. Bagged fruit, potatoes, and even onions will always yield a third of rot. I typically leave $300 to $400 on groceries here but I'm so frustrated with the money I literally throw away days after my purchase. I know I can take these items back to the store, but I don't have the time or energy to run back-and-forth to return things so consistently. The meat at the butcher shop was tough poorly cut, full of fat and seemed it was frozen for years. Poor quality meats at regular prices. I didnt go to a discount store so I suspected I would have received good quality since Tony's is a local shop that caters to their community. It's a shame that I could of went out to Gibson's for filet mignon at the same price if you include my time, fuel charge with utilities. Next time I will try Walmart. I should mention I didnt get this straight from the package but went to the butcher behind the counter. It was cut as if it was for farm animals like it was torn. I have been a Jewel-Osco girl most of my life. However, as of late Jewel has gotten extremely expensive and their produce kind of sucks. I cook a lot with jalapeño's, and habenero's and Serrano peppers and Jewel does not have them all the time. Tony's produce is excellent and plentiful. There is no contest between Jewel and Tony's when it comes to produce. Tony's meat department is flipping amazing. Not only that, but they have products like quail eggs!!!!!! The only disappointment is their water selection. They carry LaCroix - but not all the flavors and no Perrier I am so happy that I have found an alternative to Jewel. We are saving money and getting quality as well. read more

The produce and deli selection (excellent variety--they always have watercress, celriac, fennel bulb, gai lan, fresh figs, 3 different proscuitto's and many ethnic foods and prdouce choices I don't buy but others clearly do..) but customer service is IN THE TOILET. The management is clearly not training these people. Today, (not for the first time) neither the check-out clerk nor bagger greeted me but just continued their private conversation while the bagger willy-nilly dropped produce in the bags I'd brought and paid no attention to putting heavier items on the bottom or distributing the weight among bags, nor filled them, but gave me double plastic instead, which I expressly bring bags to avoid. When I complained, neither apologized and the bagger just walked away. If you management guys occasionally stopped by Trader Joe's you'd see what customer service can be. If it weren't for your produce and deli, I'd never darken your doors again.... read more

Great food selection and very good workers at this location. The deli department has very good staff and they really try to help everyone with the same care. They have deals here that cannot be beat, so we shop here weekly. You can look up items online and make your shopping list too, we do this so that not as many extras fall into the cart. If they do not have some items they can order these for future visits, in some cases. Try them you cannot go wrong!!! read more

I have going to Tony's for years but always forget to leave a review. Yesterday I went for a few things for the week. Couldn't find an item I needed. I was helped by a very nice man in the meat department. Can't recall his name. Later at the register I was created with a smile and a very professional and friendly attitude. His name was Lee. First, we purchased a fair amount of groceries a couple of days ago at Tony's. Our mistake is that we threw away the receipt and had no proof of purchase. My wife now is going to eat the the Jello Cheesecake desert that we bought but before she opened the container she saw that the expiration date was more then a month old. Now all the products in that package are not good as well and expired! If and when we shop there again, we shall always check expiration dates of all products so we don't have to throw things out. That being said, we have learned that we must keep our receipts to prove that we purchased the item because I surely would have driven back for a refund. read more

I was a Dominick's shopper for over 15 years and was sad to see them go, especially this Countryside location. I was never impressed with the Tony's at 87th and Harlem but what they've done here is amazing. Practically the same experience I've gotten at some Mariano's but at lower prices. While prices here are similar to the Dominick's before it, I'd say the increased service, selection, and appearance makes things here a nice value. Organic produce is in one large organized and well priced area that makes things quite easy. Other produce items often have some great sales and are more aggressive on low every day pricing than other local stores. The bakery section here is simply awesome. Hand made Italian, Hispanic, Polish, and traditional American pastries just to mention a few. Many come in multiple sizes and flavors. The cake and cupcake selection is pretty sweet as well. There in a small gelato and coffee bar. Seating area is small, but on my visits even at peak times I haven't see it at capacity. Nice restrooms are located next to this area (same place where they've been for many years). The wine area is nice but be cautious as higher priced wines are on top right at eye level and the less expensive stuff is hard to see all the way at the bottom shelf. I've tried a number of different wines here and have been impressed with the price/quality ratio. My newest favorite Pino Noir from the Russian River Valley near Sonoma, California is just $8.99. Also a walk-in cooler for cold beer and single serve bottled beverages like hard cider or wine coolers. The most impressive area for me was the two very long international aisles with clearly marked areas for countries or regions and some very reasonable prices as well. Tony's has accomplished what many stores only strive to do. This is a great five star location! Dairy, meat, household goods, and soda/water sections are pretty much average with other grocery stores. read more

My wife and I buy tons of groceries from Tony's every week. We usually get great service from everyone there but today was the worst. David is the worst cashier we've ever encountered! He ignored us when we spoke to him. We asked for double bags and he continued to ignore us. It must've been how we looked because the couple before us was given service with a smile. Tony's ROCKS Way better than Dominick's ever was - at least since before the Safeway era. Amazing selection of imports and ethnic foodstuffs. Staff busy keeping stocked. I've had them help recommend and point out alternatives. Have had over the top service from the folks in florist dept, produce, deli. Personally cannot comment on butcher, fish dept from personal experience. Believe produce better off at worst on par with jewel and marianos offerings in the area. Bakers are about equal. Never found lack of cashiers - short checkout times. Manager on top of things at this location. read more

Reason for 2 stars is because they were out of 80 percent of the frozen sale items on a Friday.manager just moving sale signs off the practically empty sale cases.customer service had to wait 15 minutes to get a refund (thus while questioning me about the sale items pictured in the ad)..I just wanted a refund...products returned..money back simple transaction..went to bridge view location instead (they had product in stock quick checkout)..need better management that cares at this location. read more

I highly recommend Tony's curbside pickup service. Their website is easy to navigate and pick out what you want. Not all the items you see online are actually available, but they have been very good about making appropriate substitutions especially when I leave detailed notes. When something is unclear, they have been good about calling to make sure I don't miss something really important. Their produce selection is quite good and substantially cheaper than Jewel or Mariano's. Unlike Mariano's, their pickup operation is very well organized. I have never waited longer than 5 minutes after arriving texting for service from the parking lot. I buy meats in bulk at costco, so I can't really testify to their meat selection. read more

This was previously a one-star review of their curbside pickup. Yes, it was a disaster but when I went back to the store to have this mess straightened out (wrong products, wrong prices, missing items etc) the clerk at the desk could not have been more accommodating or understanding. The total was amended and I was more than satisfied. New employees were at the bottom of this and I cannot let a bad review hurt a good business. I have shopped for YEARS with Tony's and really this was the only time I have had an issue. So I erased my bad review with one that will encourage others to shop here. Ok, let me just start by saying that, I like Tonys Fresh Market, it always looks very clean and well organized. I stop there at least 3 times a week. It's either in the morning before, I get to work or after I get off of work. So, today I stopped by to pick up a few items to take home. I know that the MANDATORY indoor mask requirement has been mandated throughout Illinois, not just in some counties. I saw at least 6 people walk into the store without a mask. There is a sign at the door by the way. I hate to say this but, we can all guess which "race" was not wearing one because it's the same wherever you go and see someone without a mask . I keep walking thru the store and, I run into a manager well, he tells me he's one of the managers (VAL). I asked him if it was mandatory for patrons to wear masks? he said well we are in cook county and yes, it is. He then said if, we see someone who's not wearing one we offer them a mask. He then goes on to tell me, I just think some people aren't aware of the mandate yet. I was blown away and yet, I never heard one announcement through the PA system notifying us of the mandated mask-wearing indoors vaccinated or not! " AND "This is why we're back to wearing masks again due to those people who refuse to protect others from themselves.......I'm going to go in there without my mask tomorrow and I'm sure I'll be told to please wear one ok, now guess what race I am? lol!!!! So, It should be pretty easy, but it seems like grocery stores are struggling nowadays to provide a nice, fresh experience to customers and this is definitely the case here! This particular location has steadily spiraled down in service and in some cases quality. I have been shopping here for the better part of 3 years and I have noticed a steady decline. The last straw for me was when I was actually and purposefully insulted by a cashier and she had no shame about it whatsoever. The manager seemed quite unhappy to hear about her antics but at that point, there was pretty much nowhere else to go. I was behind someone in line and I was with my young son. As his order was completing (was all bagged up) his buddy came along with 5 or six more items. In this case, the thing to do because the line was pretty short was to tell the 2nd guy that he should get in line, and she would get to him. Instead, she full-on let this person go right in front of me and start an entirely independent order separate from the first customer! (friend of the first guy) After the guys left it was finally my turn! I calmly said to her that she should not have let the other gentleman cut in front of me, and she knew that it was improper. She then went on to say that if she thought it was improper that I should tell her manager. Then she went on to say that if I am an impatient person that I should go to the self-checkout lane! That was it for me! *side note (they discontinued the 15 items or less with a human checker in favor of self check out lanes) If you do that, at least have nice humans. Plus, if you are already short-staffed, your cashiers will have to go help train people to use the machine! Other lowlights of this store: Small hand baskets are not near entrances usually. It took them 3 months to actually order some when I asked about them. Hot food containers are nearly impossible to close. They routinely pop open in your grocery bags, spilling delicious, hot food on packaged goods! Yum!! Have you ever had lemon salmon with rice on your wonder bread wrapper? The hot food bucket has a plastic lid that expands once it is filled with hot food. That means the lid will not stay on! Tony's has really good hot food, but they are not showing it respect when customers have to retrieve it out of the bottom of their grocery bags. They need better packaging, bottom line. Just do what the other stores do!!! High turnover, disgruntled employees, not the most conscientious or thoughtful cashier staff, and only 2 of five baggers that actually bag your stuff without damage. Shameful! Several general managers in 3 years and none of them have figured it out yet. Day-old food in deli is sometimes not up to snuff. Sometimes you can buy a ready to eat item that is still frozen. Sometimes you can buy yesterday's stuff but it is dried out from the hot food table. Fresh made or packed is very good, but again the containers are wonky. Customers like to go to a store where it is a good balance of good value and good service. I guess if you are looking for low prices and bad service this place might be okay, but I strive for better for my family. Other stores have problems too, but it seems they pay more attention to feedback and try harder to get it right. This review should not come as a shock to Tony's corporate office as I sent them an email several months ago when I started to notice the severe dip in quality. They had someone from their office contact me and ask a lot of questions, but all they had to do was read my lengthy email. They said they would read it again and talk to the management, but then the young woman called me back again wanting me to rehash it all over again. Sadly I did not have time to go over it all again. I would not be writing this review if it were not for my experience with this cashier. The manager looked like he was going to speak to her, but at this point, it is a long line of disappointments and I will no longer return. Their attrition rate must be atrocious! read more
