Well Tony's Taco's is expanding operations. I usually stop at there location at the Standish exit off 75. Unfortunately they are closed on Mondays and that made me sad. I thought I had stewed up my going north Tony's taco stop. Yelp to the rescue! The Yelp app pointed out they had a Tawas location. I got the Macho Taco with beans and rice. WOW! Delicious and filling. Tony always makes the ingredients at his establishments fresh every day. He a nice man and very kind as well. This Tawas location has a classy log built design that sits in the Tawas park and just off the Tawas Pier. Everyone is welcome and you'll love the food and take out experience. read more

So let's manage expectations, it's a taco stand on the beach. Perfect for a quick bite while enjoying the day. Plastic cutlery, paper bowls, and low grade paper napkins, got it? Ok. So the food is solid, and I would recommend the elote above anything else there. However, the prices really aren't a single "$" any more. Over $6 for an ear of corn is silly, so I didn't get it this time. And having to stand around for no less than 20 minutes waiting for your tacos is just frustrating. So yes, it's good, but bring patience, because you will be waiting!! read more

Favorite Tawas spot! Barbacoa is crunchy and flavorful. Elotes are on point. Always friendly, even on busy holidays.

Great to see a restaurant like this on the beach. We're from downstate and we enjoyed the outdoor seating, view and the nice folks working here. Barbacoa was tender and not salty (the salsas are delicious if you want to flavor it up). Tamale had a good flavor too. Would definitely recommend for a good stop with young kiddos. Delicious taco stand on the beach! Everything is fresh and delicious. The salsa and guacamole is some of the best I've ever had.

We make the 2 1/2 hour trip twice every summer at least. It's a little chaotic at times but honestly I think it's just part of this place's charm. The food is amazing! There's a reason we make the drive, and we literally make the drive just for this place. It's got a great setting so you can enjoy a beach day and walk up to the taco stand for dinner. Vegan Tacos!!!! 3 street style, fresh, perfect vegan tacos. The beans, the salsa, the rice.... These tacos were better than any they had in Mexican Town in the D. The place was better in standish. A taco, nacho and side of guacamole was $15. Chips directly out of the Sams Club bag - not even toasty warm. The nacho was (as someone mentioned) stadium style with a glop of liquid "cheese". Yuck. Taco was tasty. Guac lacked flavor. The process made me super thirsty but pops were $2.25. read more

The tacos were great some of the best I've ever had. If I could change one thing it would be they need to put them in something other than styrofoam plating as they get very soggy. The Mexican street corn was off the charts and I would recommend anybody try that. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was their rice. It lacked flavor and it was a bit under cooked. They are kind of expensive but the tacos are worth it and so is the corn. read more

My family and I concur with the reviewer who said it was eh. That about sums it up, the 4/5 star ratings are very generous or perhaps their experience with Mexican food is limited. The flavors of the meats were all rather bland. We had chicken, pork and chorizo on the street tacos, chicken on a quesadilla. All the tacos came out cold. We opted to get the corn, again not sure what other people's experiences are but that was not right and it was also cold. Salsa was bland, no spice or heat even on the "hot" one. The chorizo in our tacos also had no spice. We tried the beans and rice. Tasted like a can of refried beans and the rice had minimal flavor. The prices are higher than what is listed online, I do understand the need to raise prices, the new prices were listed at the stand though not very clear. $50 for the amount of food and the quality/flavor was high. Drove by and stopped on a whim. Ordered some street tacos. It was very tasty and very reasonably priced. I could have ordered another three tacos. My wife ordered a Macho Taco which was also very good and they had a good assortment of Jarittos. We will be camping in Tawas this summer and look forward to trying more of the items on their menu. read more

Ordered 3 Asada street tacos and waited over 45 minutes for them. Everytime i asked when they would be done, I was told any minute. Not sure why it takes so long to make them. As far as the tacos, they were mediocre at best. Unfortunately, was not worth the wait. read more

The best taco salad that I've had in a long time! The meat was not greasy, chips actually tasted like real corn and the tomatoes were fresh. Because of my food allergies I always order taco salads without cheese so I notice the flavors of everything else all the more. The guacamole was excellent with nice chunks of avocados and cilantro just big enough to enjoy yet small enough to look pretty. "Eh" is all I really felt about this place. I'm surprised it's rated so well. Maybe we went on an off day, but we had four people and everyone was a little disappointed. The elote was very good but really that's it. The tostada was more iceberg than anything. The cheese in our quesadilla wasn't even melted. Macho taco was pretty lackluster. Everything was served lukewarm. Someone working there was wearing his gloves to do just about everything, leaving the building, touching door knobs, money, etc and then back to the food. The location is great and the outdoor seating is nice when you come off the beach covered in sand and you aren't really looking to go in anywhere and sit down. read more

Tony's is basically a taco stand in a park by the water. I was very pleasantly surprised that they serve authentic Mexican food. I wasn't expecting that in this area. I stopped in with friends for a snack, and then just pretty much ended up having dinner. I had a spicy shredded pork taco (in 12" tortilla), corn on the cob, and a Jarrito's lime soda. The taco hit the spot. It was made with fresh ingredients (including awesome hot pico de gallo) and had excellent flavor. The corn on the cob was coated in Mexican spices (chili powder, cayenne?) and cheese (I believe it was queso fresco). You must try the corn! My friends also enjoyed their food. The gordita looked very tasty, as did the shrimp ceviche. I'll be sure to stop at Tony's the next time I'm passing through. read more

Really good Mexican street food. Located at the stand in front of the earthen pier. This was a great stop as we rode bikes from Tawas Point out through town. Chorizo tacos were dynamite. Corn on the cob was really good but we had to wipe off a little of the mayo and spice. The kids nachos were just stadium style chips with cheese goop. Overall good food served fairly quickly. This place is in a little, unassuming beach-side shack. We drove by it one day and decided to stop in the next afternoon to try it out. I will now be a regular there. Both times I've been there I ordered the three tacos de maiz (barbacoa) and it was delicious!! They were fresh and as authentic as it gets in Michigan. My friend ordered taquitos (I think?) and another the quesadilla and both said that their meal was really good! The next time I went I ordered a corn on the cob to go with my tacos. Oh my goodness! I never knew corn could be so tasty. This will be a regular addition to my diet. The only downside is that I'm not quite sure of their hours, or if they even have regular hours. I think it is open if the weather is nice and the foot traffic in that area is good? I went down yesterday and they were closed :( BUT - went back today and loved every bite! read more
