    Pumpkin soup with star anise

Just from the name you know this place is going to be cute! It's easily missed but we saw these GIGANTIC fresh carrots in a delivery crate outside their door, which drew our curiosity. I ordered a squash soup with star anise and a carrot juice with ginger. The soup was fantastic, but much larger than I expected--enough for two people. Be careful when you ask for ginger though, you might want to let them know just a bit. As much as I love ginger, I think it almost burned a hole in my throat... Would definitely come back to try other items. A great lunch spot and good for vegetarians.

So far, I've eaten at both Toos & Roos venues in Amsterdam and I have to say that both are equally delicious. The staff there are always polite and ready to take your order and help you out. The second best thing (after the food, of course) about those two lunch cafes is the location: I the heart of Amsterdam. My only regret is that those places are not open throughout the whole day and don't serve dinner. If they did, it certainly be there!

    Quiche (small slice)

This was a delicious meal, but a little overpriced for what was delivered. I ordered the Spinach quiche for almost 10 euros, and it was a small slice. It was delicious, but because of the open kitchen view I was able to watch the chef put it into the microwave then on the plate for me. My friends ordered the sandwiches and said they were delicious. That seems like the way to go and more bang for your buck.

Toos & Roos on the Herengracht. This is a very tiny place to have lunch or brunch. You can sit outside or in. I ordered an omelet and got the ravioli. Well I pointed at what I wanted on the menu which could have been the ravioli. I dunno. The service was quick and friendly and the ravioli wasn't all that bad.

Mozzarella, tomatoes, greens, pesto on whole wheat. Yum!

Cute little place to stop for a quick bite. Had an open face sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, and some greens. Very good! My order took a while to be brought out so they brought me a free shot of their soup of the day, it was awesome! Not too expensive, good place to pop in and has outdoor seating which was great!

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. Don't make the mistake of walking past it for as long as I did!

We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!
