Pricing is obviously higher than if you did it yourself or took your brass to a generic metal shining shop, but the quality of the work here is higher too. This place is absolutely amazing. I have a beloved 2-light desk lamp that I love. But it was ugly (sorry, I didn't think to take a "before" photo). But it had lots of pits, and very little "gold" color was left, just lots and lots of dark corrosion marks. It had gotten too ugly to put out anymore. Over a long period of time I looked for a replacement lamp. None matched my original. I decided to purchase a similar lamp made by Stiffel on Lamps Plus. What a mess of a lamp! The two columns holding each bulb were not the same height. There was mismatched color at the base. The shade was not level. Stiffel used to be a good name but no longer. Terrible quality for a higher-priced lamp. I found Top Brass on Yelp, and despite the long drive, brought it down to see if they could repair it. They went above and beyond what I ever expected! My photo just shows the "after," which is disappointing because the difference is like night and day. It looks absolutely BRAND NEW, and what they did to repair it will last forever. It is not an inexpensive process, but I am so glad I bit the bullet and did it. It gives me so much pleasure to look at and use this lamp on my desk every day. I contacted Gail a few weeks ago and we went over what I needed. Brass bathroom fixtures refinished. My brass was somewhere between 30 and 40 years old. Never really maintained. The original coating if there was any was not very good. Gail told me that they did a great job and no one had ever been unhappy with there work. I was hoping that it would come out pretty good but was very aware of what bad shape my fixtures were in. well I got them back this morning and unless they sent me brand new ones, which I am positive are not available, they did an incredible job. We recently had an entry double door refinished which I had damaged SEVERELY trying to polish the brass locksets. The doors looked new. I took the locksets to Top Brass and within a few days, we had beautifully refinished, restored locksets. The owner actually strips, degreases, polishes and clear coats the items to preserve the brass with instructions on how to care for your restored item (aerosol type Pledge furniture polish) and at what I felt was a reasonable price. I highly recommend Top Brass. The back story is when the door was fixed (another review) and the thought of replacing the locksets was a dilemma. I had tried over the years but the size was not to be found. I was armed with a list of hardware stores both in San Diego and Riverside Counties. I read the reviews of one and was just not up to dealing with a place that would be quite expensive and reviewed for less than stellar service IF they could even find the locksets and probably at a very expensive price for new ones. Previously several years ago I had thought of replating them and the place I had found was out of business. Not wanting to deal with the above, I did some research and found Top Brass's website. The minute I called, I KNEW I had found the right place! I was still leery since the locksets were in very bad condition. Also, this place seemed "out of the way" to me. But I was prepared to go to the ends of the earth to get my project completed. It was totally worth the drive, and was actually fairly freeway accessible from any part of San Diego -- 94 for the south, I-8 for the center, and I-125/I-52 for the north. Coming from Tierrasanta it was less than 25 minutes. I loved meeting the owner and talking to her. She is the only one doing the work the way she does it. I am planning to get estimates for a brass lamp I have, as well as a teacart I have had for 45 years. I have all kinds of ideas. She told me she even did a brass headboard someone picked up at a flea market. I trust the owner and her expertise. The locksets look brand NEW. My husband did have some trouble reinstalling them as the lock was very sticky. He used WD-40 and kept working the key until finally it was smooth. Top Brass did an excellent job refinishing a brass piece that has been in my family for a very long time. It had gotten damaged from salt exposure, so it was pitted. Plus it had been banged around and was a bit warped. Top Brass managed to bring this piece back pretty close to brand new! They were professional and prompt in their service. I have been looking for a company that cleans and restores (polishes) brass and copper items. I went to "Yelp" for "help" and found the Top Brass Company listed just a mile from home.I read the reviews listed on the Yelp site and was very impressed with what I read. I called Gail (owner-manager) and was very impressed with her knowledge of how to restore brass and copper items. My project was a old 21/2 gallon Soda-Acid Fire Extinguisher that needed to be restored. I took the extinguisher in to her shop where she explained in detail what they would do to restore it. A few days later i picked up the extinguisher and at first thought it belonged to someone else, it was that well done. I will be taking other valued items to her from now on. The price charged was very fair i thought, do to the amount of work that needed to be done to restore the item properly. My husband and I bought a copper tray while we were in Istanbul on our honeymoon. The tray was made in Iran in approximately 1850. (There is a signature and date engraved on the back.) I adopted the tray once at home as our "Ottoman Cheese Plate" for entertaining. I decided to look around Yelp to see if I could find somebody to restore it. I found Top Brass. They did an incredible job. They made our beautiful, historic tray...magnificent. It glows and shines unlike I thought it could. The proprietor of Top Brass was even able to give me some insight into the tray's history. It was used to cook food over a fire and then to serve the food. Everybody ate off the tray like you do at an Ethiopian restaurant. The copper tray was coated in tin to protect the food from the toxic copper. Amazingly, she was able to remove all of the grit on the back of the tray and substantially all of the tin on the tray. Top Brass takes a lot of pride in their craft.
