This is a very good Chinese restaurant in central Alabama. The service of the food was great, but the food was not up to its expectation. The portions of the food are large, but the fried rice was good as I can remember. The Szechuan Chicken was not as spicy. I like how the food was served with real dishes and eating utensils when dining in. Never had ordered take-out, but the seating was convenient for customers wishing to take out Chinese. Really great hidden gem. We stopped here on our drive back home and we were looking for a quick stop near gas. It didn't look busy but there was a steady stream of people in & out. I got the sesame chicken and husband got the chicken Lo mein. We each ordered a hot & sour soup and they were fantastic! We haven't had orange or sesame chicken that good in a long time. The people were friendly and it looks to be family owned and operated. There is a small cash discount too- I think we got about $2 off but overall, dinner for 2 under $20. I eat here a lot. Very fast preparing the food. I usually get Sesame Chicken or Cashew Chicken and enjoy both tremendously. From memory, this location has been here for many years. Employees are very businesslike. One particular gentleman will take an order at counter, grab phone and take order and direct something with the cooks all at the same time. I was driving through AL and stopped at a hotel near this gem. I had the shrimp lo mein and it was honestly the best I have ever eaten. They used high-quality shrimp and there was plenty of it. Some of the best Chinese I have had in quite a while. I stayed in Montgomery, AL as a means to evacuate hurricane Michael and ordered take out during my stay. It was an enormous amount. 1 order fed two people so I had plenty of left over for the next day! We ordered, fried wings and chicken friend rice, & shrimp fried rice with sweet and sour shrimp. If there was a way to give 0 stars, I would. I arrived 30 minutes after I placed my order and there were 2 people in line in front of me. While I was waiting in line 2 more customers walked up and then the cashier just starts calling out random order numbers that were ready. I was confused so I walked up to the window and asked if order #164 was ready yet and he completely ignored me and kept calling out other orders (170-185) that had been placed well after mine. So I was patient and just assumed that maybe mine wasn't ready yet. After 10 mins of watching all of these customers come and go I finally got a chance to ask about my order again only to be told to wait until he's done with the other customers. I was so embarrassed/mad that I decided to leave without my food. While I was otw home I couldn't get over the fact that he completely disregarded me and my time and didn't care what I had to think about it. So I turned around and when I got there and asked for the 3rd time if my order was ready, he tried to ignore me again!!! However, this time I demanded his attention! He then asked if I had paid yet and I told him "No, I haven't because you have completely ignored me 3 different times that I have tried to pay". His response was to read me the total for my order. So I paid and then he gives me the bag that was literally directly beside the register. The bag had been sitting there the entire 30+ mins I had been waiting for him to call my number or at least acknowledge me when I asked 3 times!! I have never in my life experienced such disgusting customer service and I will never spend another dollar at this place. It's food my kid will eat. It's in a good location, the wait time isn't too long. I can actually order, then go next door to the Publix to to get a short list of shopping done and pick it up fast once I'm done. I don't eat here often, but the staff is friendly and I've never had a problem with my order. As junk food goes, and yes American style Chinese food is junk food, you could always do worse. When I first ate here I did not like their food. I decided to give them another shot. I think they may have hired new cooks or something because now they are top notch! Their Shrimp fried rice, Orange chicken and General Tso's.... Yeaaaaa boyyyyy!!!!!! Only complaint is from my personal experience. They have their kids sometimes taking orders and they mess up. I ordered some Orange Chicken and General Tso's (of course). I told him I wanted the Dinner which is all meat not the combo. The combo comes with a lot of meat on top so when I looked at the container it looked correct. Then when I got home and started to prepare my plate that's when I noticed the rice on the bottom. I did not complain because I enjoy their food and they did not charge me for a dinner. This is one of those small strip-mall, bowling alley-narrow eateries that would be really easy to overlook if you didn't know it was there. It's minutes from where I live but I only found out by a recommendation from someone who has been there. This is how Top China has gained a very large loyal customer base- word-of-mouth praise. On my first visit, I learned why. Again, the place is small with very few seats for dine-in. It's a pleasant enough place to eat in but there's always a lot of people there- mostly for takeout. Even at it's busiest, the staff is always very friendly and eager to serve. The kitchen is in view of the counter where you order and pay so you can see the skilled staff cook and package orders in a flurry of activity. The takeout is packaged very well and it's easy to take home, open up and start eating. The food is always hot, fresh, and abundant. They really pile on the portions and it is delicious. I usually get the honey chicken and/or the sweet and sour chicken which comes with a HEAP of fried rice. Pedestrian fare, I know but it is delicious and after I stuff myself there's always enough left for a whole 'nother meal. As if this all wasn't good enough, Top China is one of the least expensive places to eat. FAST service, huge portions, high-quality delicious food and very reasonable price. The food was made fresh to order (we walked in and ordered) and was ready in about 15 minutes. No Joke, this place has to be the busiest restaurant in the river region. There was a new order placed ever 30 seconds, either by phone or by someone else walking in. (to me, this was a good sign!). The restaurant is more like a waiting room with chairs lining the room for you to wait for your order, but there are tables if you chose to eat here. We got 2 combo dinners (General Tso's and Sesame Chicken -adventurous i know!), and an order of pan fried won tons. Our total was right at $20. Once we got home we discovered what a great deal this truly was. I had enough for supper, lunch, supper, lunch (and was full at each meal). My husband had enough for a huge supper and huge lunch. In town for a get away and Sunday night we opted to try here. Got the corn nuggets as an app, since not many Chinese joints have them. Then, my standard "go-to" is general Tso's chicken. I generally like mine spicy, but ordered it regular. My partner got the sesame chicken. Mine was pretty good, some of the sesame chicken had a crust that was VERY crispy. I love this restaurant! When I'm in the mood for some Chinese food this is where I come! I love their food. If you go you have to try the honey chicken and pork rice . The lemonade is soooo good and sweet. The service is pretty quick. Many people call in but they still get orders out in a timely fashion. I know I may sound crazy but you can tell that the meat they cook with is real chicken , pork, and beef. I ordered some Shrimp Fried Rice, Gen Tso's Chicken and House Egg Foo Young. Needless to say food is excellent. Quality of the food is better than some fancier sit down restaurants I've been to in California. You can tell the difference in quality with the shrimp in the fried rice. They use the larger fresh shrimps rather than the tiny frozen ones you get in most restaurants. Would definitely hit this place up again before I leave Montgomery. read more

This is my 3rd and last time visiting Top China! I was told that this was the best place to get Chinese food. This is the 2nd time that they have gotton my order wrong! I call to place my order over the phone because I literally live 13 miles away (That's 26 miles round trip). This time I order honey chicken wings and shrimp fried rice with a order of crab rangoons. He even repeated order! It's my fault I should have checked my order before driving all the way home, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that they got it correct this time. Atmosphere is lacking but the food is legit! Singapore noodles were outrageously tasty with very healthy portions of meat and seafood. Steamed dumplings and egg rolls did not disappoint.
