We wouldn't hire this guy again if he was the last contractor on the planet. 7 months to complete a 150 square foot addition. Worst customer service ever. When we questioned him about not showing up, he said " oh.. my bad.. I forgot." We let him know that wasn't acceptable. His reply: " You know what? You're lucky I even called you back." Seriously? Good God! All of these people had the exact same horrible experience that we just had! Avoid this business like the plague! Ultimately, the work got done. The job involved building a covered patio, building a BBQ, replacing three doors and two gates, building a retaining wall in the back, and some additional relatively minor work. All of this took nine whole months to complete! The quality was good overall. The crew is knowledgeable and nice; unfortunately, they work for the world's absolute worst boss who makes them all look bad. Like other people have pointed out, the contract terms are horrible and put the customers at huge financial risk. Huge gobs of money are collected up front, and then they disappear to work on the numerous other jobs that they have, and you have no inkling of when they'll be back. I was afraid the whole time that my money might be used to fund other jobs and that I'll be left in a lurch if there's any financial mismanagement or if something happens to the owner. You should only be forced to pay a reasonable down payment to get the work started, but we estimated at some point that we had paid at least 65% to 75% of the money for maybe 25% to 30% of the work. If you ask Greg Aliano once about when he will continue the work, he sends you a screenshot of a huge list of jobs showing that you are on the bottom. If you dare to ask him a second or third time (because you have no idea when he will be back), he will chastise you in the rudest fashion. If you dare to ask about specific details of work in progress (because you may have a concern about potential issues), he will insult you. He told me (for example) that I complain too much and that I'm not a normal person. He was downright nasty to my wife for just asking what his schedule is (and we have the texts to prove it). Greg is extremely aggressive when it's time to collecting money (that won't be earned for a very long time). He once sent his supervisor INTO MY BACKYARD on a Friday evening to collect a payment, and they also texted me the next day on Saturday about it. This was unbelievable given how much money they had already collected without doing commensurate work (not to mention that it's trespassing and harassment). At some point, I got fed up with the money requests, and I ended up writing two post-dated checks that should have been cashed only when certain things happened. Even though I explained to Greg what I was doing and why, he went ahead and cashed both (BIG) checks early anyway. I WOULD CAUTION everyone against putting any stock in these awards that Top Construction has supposedly been given. At some point, in the middle of our frustration, Greg sent me a text supposedly showing that he had just been selected two years in a row for the "Best of Santa Clarita Awards." When he showed up a couple of days later, he showed me the graphic of the award again (on his phone) and told me, "I just wanted you to know who you are dealing with." I could not believe the nerve of this guy! He practically held our money for ransom, insulted both me and my wife, and he had the nerve to tell me that we're lucky that he's working with us! Given that he had the worst customer service we had ever experienced in our lives, we couldn't believe that the City of Santa Clarita would give him this award. Guess what? They DIDN'T give him the award. I googled it, and only two things came up--the awards given by the SCV Signal, and the ones given by the Chamber of Commerce. I called the Signal to ask how Top Construction could possibly be given the award, and they did some research and told me that 1) they hadn't given him the award (they gave it to a different contractor) and 2) that it looks like a scam. I then googled the SCV Chamber of Commerce, and he's not on their list of recipients either. Who gave this supposed award that they tout on their website??? If it's an actual person or organization, how is it possible that Top Construction could have earned it given all of these one-star reviews on Yelp??? Seems pretty fishy. Lastly, there is the matter of the port-a-potty. Greg left this eyesore in my driveway for many, many months because the work wasn't getting done. At some point, we noticed that our USPS mailman was using it daily on his route without even asking our permission, so our house had become a public restroom. The potty was eventually hauled away because the lease had expired (or whatever the reason was), so when the workers actually came to do work, they used our bathroom in our house because they had nowhere else to go! I feel bad for the workers, but no one should EVER EVER EVER hire Top Construction! read more

Greg and his crew are awesome. We've used them for two separate jobs over the 15 years we've owned our home. The first was converting a third car garage into an attached office in our house. The second was remodeling our kitchen/living area as well as other "face-lift" things we needed done. Their work is excellent. Their prices are fair. Their crew is considerate and nice. When I need a contractor for work, they're the first people I call. There was one time we had another contractor who supposedly "specialized" in patio covers put ours in. Boy I regret that. The blokes didn't even use galvanized bolts! Should have called Greg. I sincerely cannot recommend them high enough for whatever job you need done. Greg is a rip off artist so be careful! Don't let his fake charm fool you like I did. DO NOT agree to his illegal and ridiculous payment schedule. If you still decide to use him, read the contract carefully. His contract will state the money is due as soon as he "STARTS" each phase of the project. Foundation, framing, roof, plumbing, electric etc. That is not how things are supposed to work. Per the California state contractors licensing board, he is supposed to only collect a deposit to get started, 10% or $1000 Max. Not $18,000 like he had me pay him before he even started. Go to the CSLB website and make sure to look at their sample contracts. He also does very vague contracts. They are supposed to be extremely detailed as far as the job description goes. He is only supposed to get paid as the work is COMPLETED, not started. What he will do to you is make you think he's not going to be collecting money for phase 2 until phase 1 is done. But once you get going on the project you realize he will do about a half a day's work on phase 1 and then he will immediately tell you he "started" phase 2 by dropping off some lumber on the same day so you now owe him for two phases of the project even though no phase is even close to being done so for me that was another $18,000 for a total of $36k! Then a few days later, he will "start" on phase 3 and ask you to pay another $18,000 for phase 3!! All of the sudden you will have paid him 80% of what you owe him for the entire job even though he's less than 15% finished with the entire project! Total BS! He does this so he has you in a position where you have overpaid him so he can start on other people's jobs while you sit around in a torn up home and wonder why he's no longer showing up to work on yours. He then will get around to you whenever he feels like it which is not very often. Meanwhile, he's spending all your money to buy supplies for someone else's job. Any timeline he gives you for completion of the project is a lie. He went 3 months over the date he gave me and then he still refused to properly complete the job. He will also find ways to suck extra money out of you. About 3 weeks in, he called me and asked me about a specific part of the job and whether or not I wanted him to complete it. I said no. I did not want to pay the extra money for it unnecessarily. He agreed it was unnecessary. The next day he apparently changed his mind and had his worker do the work anyway without even talking to me again first. When I asked him why he didn't follow through with the agreement, he just said he thought it over again and decided it needed to be done so I needed to pay him an extra $1800 for it. No matter how hard I tried I could not convince him of his wrongdoing in this case. He got annoyed with me for even questioning it. I even asked if he would at least allow me to just pay him the extra $1800 upon completion of the project since I was already so far ahead of the work with my payments and he refused. He knew he had me over a barrel because he could just walk off the job at that point or he could continue to delay the project. On top of that, we didn't want a disgruntled contractor coming to the house for the next several months and having to deal with him on all those issues that would inevitably come up. Why would he go back on his agreement? Because he is a rip off artist! At that point in the project I had paid him 80% and he had only completed about 25% of the work. He said he wouldn't continue until I paid him the extra $1800. Just remember, when he comes to give you the initial estimate, Greg will say, "my price is my price." Once he gets you to sign on the dotted line, he has you where he wants you and you're screwed! He will suddenly realize all of the necessary things he needs to do to bring the project to code and expect you to pay extra for all of it. He also pretends not to know what a change order is. What makes me even more angry is a neighbor of mine who recommended him didn't act surprised at all when I explain all the problems I was having. He said he experienced similar problems but in the end he was satisfied with the work. I sure wish he would've told me about it all before I hired "Top Construction." In the end, the overall quality of work was about a 7.5 out of 10. Not bad but not great either. We have some electrical issues, his tile guy was horrible and there were some details like using extra caulking to fill in where they measured moldings wrong. Definitely not worth all the stress and hassle! I recommend you stay away! read more

BEWARE!!!! The contractor Greg did not meet my expectations, after assessing my property; he stated her was going to email my estimate. Five days later, after the assessment; I found no estimate emailed. I, then emailed Greg asking if he sent the estimate; he quickly responded that he had "too many projects, and could not do the work at this time". My free estimate was not attached to his email, nor was it ever sent to me, after his email. I would like to know why he wasted our time; I told him of the extensive work my property needed in advance initially over the phone. Greg could have told me then, that he was too busy instead of making an appointment with me. Greg also told me I needed a totally brand new roof, and he simple stated his "eyeballed" assessment, without ever physically checking the actual roof. BEWARE!!!! Top Construction is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. BBB states " Business started: 03/07/1995 Licensing, Bonding or Registration. This company is in an industry that may require licensing, bonding or registration in order to lawfully do business. BBB encourages you to check with the appropriate agency to be certain any requirements are currently being met." Top Construction is not BBB Accredited. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. To be accredited by BBB, a business must apply for accreditation and BBB must determine that the business meets BBB accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. I completely agree with the 2 negative reviews recently left for Top Construction. I had the same experience with Greg unfortunately. We hired him for a large project that took very long to complete because as soon as he would start a project and collect the money for that phase-he disappeared for weeks at a time, blaming the weather, sick employees, etc, yet he would post about starting new projects on Facebook in the meantime. At one point my house was a complete mess and I told him that I would not be paying money to start any new phases until at least one project was completed-he then threatened to not return to my house and leave the work as is. He tried to make a deal with me by creating a payment plan-I said no, that's what the original contract is for. He was furious that I called him out on this and then said he wasn't going to argue with me further and would immediately call the subcontractors to cancel the work planned for the following day. I told him if he did that-I would see him in court. I have all of these text messages saved in case anyone is curious to see what Greg is actually like to work with. He puts you in a position where you feel trapped and powerless unless you continue to pay for projects that are no where near being completed. I would never recommend this company to anyone and actually cringe when I see his truck around town because I know that some other poor family is going to deal with what we went through and all of the anxiety that he caused us. The one bright side in this experience was that his workers are actually great guys. It is not their fault that they have to follow his orders and just show up where they're instructed. We had been trying for MONTHS to get this done and from first visit Top Construction did what they said they were going to do - excellent communication, stayed on the time line - worked on the weekend (as to not disrupt our team during the week) and they were very professional.
