Incredible fishing trip!!!! My wife and I decided to reward our 3 High School aged sons for a "Well Done" school year. We picked Top Gun Charters out of Key Biscayne (Miami) even though we were traveling down to Key West. Reviews, pictures and a gut feeling were all the right reasons to pick them. My sons caught a 60lb Sailfish, a 50lb Sailfish and a plus 30lb King Mackerel. Throw in 8 very large Bonito, a few broken lines and it was one hell of a fishing trip. All 3 sons who grew up fishing in Florida oceans caught their largest fish ever. Captain Dave did an unbelievable job keeping his eyes constantly on the horizon looking for birds working. The 1st mate Jose was so helpful coaching 2 of my sons while they caught their Sailfish he made it seem easy and really relaxed them to the point where they could not have enjoyed the event anymore then they did. We had an extra mate Matt and he also went above and beyond to make this a GREAT fishing trip!!! Highly Recommend!!! read more

Had a great time on their 45 foot Hatteras. Captain Albert and his first mate were outstanding, professional, and knowledgeable of where to find the fish. They didn't expect us to catch anything yet we caught one mahi-mahi, one king fish, and two tuna. It was a great day we all had a good time. read more

I have a company trip every year and it's been a running joke that I am cursed with marine fishing. Bahamas, Cabo, Puerto Rico, San Diego, and others. We picked the best reviewed companies--nadda. They asked what I wanted to catch I said "anything". I said Sailfish, but don't expect that to be realistic, particularly given my history. I hooked two, lost one. Also caught a trophy Cuda, and several Bonita! It was an absolute blast, the crew hustled to ensure fresh bait was on the line and took me a good distance to where I could catch one of my dream fish. It may never happen again, so I mounted it up to sit alongside my 500 gallon in-wall saltwater fish tank! I highly highly highly recommend these guys! I only wish I could go again before I return home to cold Indianapolis! read more

I'll start by saying that I would have gave them 5* but the boat was very messy. Now the nuts and bolts. These two guys work very hard to get you on fish. The mate was non stop on the rods. Keeping 6 sailfish baits in the water while the kings are picking you apart is a real chore. Danny busted his stones trying to keep up and I was very impressed. The captain tried very diligently to get us on fish even though the sails weren't biting. Nobody on the radio was catching one on this day, but Capt. tried many different depths and patterns. Unfortunately the bait fish were not on any of the pilings and we ended up having to go a long way before we could really get any bait in the wells. By the time we did it was 9:30 and we we were a long way from fish grounds. So we didn't get any rods in the water till about 10am on a 7am-noon trip. Not a good feeling when you are paying $960 for a half day... But, in the captains defense, we had no chance without bait. So, without me saying anything he said we would stay out an extra hour. I was very pleased that he wasn't a clock watcher as I would have had a real hard time paying him the full fare for just a little bit of fishing. They were super nice people and super knowledgeable fisherman. I was happy with the trip and would use them again. BUT, would wish that they had went out the night before and got bait (since they have a few bait well floats in the water at their dock), or bought bait from a live bait service and had it there for us to go right out at 7am. I feel like the best fishing is near dawn and we missed lots of the good fishing window. read more

Caught 4 sailfish, only requested 1. Could not be happier. This captain respects the ocean, so make sure you can align with this before stepping into the boat. I would find it statistically unlikely to take this charter and catch nothing but that is my opinion. We filled the boat. Thanks captain Nel and Riley! Simply amazing! The boat itself was very well kept, the captain and crew were all very kind an knowledgeable. We went out a few miles from the coast and they explained to us the types of fish we wanted and why they liked to fly kites and fish. We ended up catching some HUGE tuna, or at least to us newbies they seemed huge. We took photos and videos of the battle with the sea beasts and just had a blast. I would recommend them to any and all who are looking to go out fishing in Miami. read more

I took a client deep sea fishing with Top Gun. We had an outstanding experience. We caught many fish. The crew was really friendly and clearly experts in catching as opposed to fishing. The crew was clearly focused on the guests having a very good experience. The boat was clean and well stock with food and beer. The highlight was a 25 pound Amberjack. The Captain cleaned the fish for us at the dock and he gave outstanding advice on a local restaurant that prepared it for us. You can't go wrong with this charter. read more

What a great trip! I contacted Captain Nell letting him know that I would be taking my 73 year old father fishing, hoping to check off catching a bill fish on his bucket list. I have hired several fishing Captains in the past, some good some bad, some jerks some friendly, and most importantly, some going through the motions and some working hard. I have to say that the "Top Gun" crew were positive on all 3. The entire crew worked hard to get us on fish. The result...my father checked one off his list, nice sail and a couple of good sized mahi. Great experience...great boat, great crew, and solid fishing knowledge. Captain Nel and crew were awesome! We had a beautiful day out on their boat. Catching bait was just the start of a great morning of fishing. We caught 4 mahi and 2 tuna. Captain Nel filleted them and we ate the freshest tuna ever, right there on the dock! He was even kind enough to drop us off, with our catch, at Whiskey Joe's where they cooked up our catch for lunch! What an awesome experience.
