I've been a loyal, well paying customer since Mimi opened this salon after her hiatus from the nail salon industry. I've sent many colleagues for her services as well, as she struggled in the beginning to build her clientele and get her business established. Having said this, I cannot describe my disappointment with my experience yesterday. It stemmed from a bad polish experience with "Amy". The gel was bad and it bubbled on the second day. I went back on and Amy tried to fix it with the same polish. I explained that the polish was bad, that it was bubbling, and she got angry and told me she would charge me for another color. I didn't say a word, the whole time, she's yelling at Nate, who comes over to see what is happening. He looks at the color that she's trying to fix and tells her it's no good. She throws it down and walks away. He then tries to fix the same color. I tell him to just remove it. He asks if I'm sure? At this point, I've decided I'm going to another salon to have them just paint my nails (they were filled in the day before). I've had two nail techs fight in front of me, one throw polish, and I'm ready to leave. He tells me to pick a color, to which I reply I will not pay for something I've already paid. Mimi's husband comes over and tells me to pick a color at no charge. As I'm sitting there getting my nails painted, a lady walks in and tells them she spent over $100 a couple of days ago on her nails and pedicure and her color was peeling off. Fast forward to yesterday. I walk in to get a fill in and pedicure, start to sign my name and Charlie says, "I'm sorry. No time for you today. Come back tomorrow." A girl walks in behind me and signs her name and sits down. (They have time for her). Needless to say, I went to another salon and will not be going back to Mimi's. Customer service and respect rates high with me, and unfortunately, I found out the hard way it doesn't here. read more

I tried MiMi for eyebrow waxing after a friend recommended her. The first time my eyebrows looked good, a little unbalanced but nothing that I could not live with. After my second time visiting, I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. I received severe burns to my eyelids, after speaking with MiMi about the burns twice, she did not offer an apology or a refund. I've been to many a nail salon in my lifetime and I can honestly say that my experience at Top Nails in Lexington was probably the worst ever. Most nail techs say hello or make small talk before they start working on you, the guy I got had the personality of a styrofoam cup. He was so serious and threw my hands around like he was extremely annoyed and forced to be there. If I had to guess, I'd say he really, really hates his job. I had a gel mani and ended up with polish that had so many bubbles, I had to complain over and over. He says "so what do you want to do about it?". The pedicure was below average. Mr. I'm Too Good For You, was so aggressive with his filing and trimming of cuticles, it was not enjoyable in the least. He also checked his phone several times. The massage lasted a whole minute. There was another customer complaining about how sloppy her French manicure looked The proprietor knew I hated my gel mani and made absolutely no effort to retain his customer. He immediately rang me up and had nothing to say. I don't really know how this place is in business. I definitely will not be returning. read more

I was treating my friend one day, ended up-upset about a few things, mainly there were SEVERAL acrylic nails put on CROOKED, and when I pointed it out to them, they looked at me like I was crazy!! She claimed that she saw and was gonna fix it later, which meant after polish. Which I've never seen file after polishing On top of that-the prices were very high. And I'm a consistent w/ my nails, I'm talking since high school-twice a month at least! Then to make it worse-that same friend went back on her own-and said the workers told her that she shouldn't be my friend!!! Suggesting to her that she was too good for me-because YOU didn't do your job, and I called you out on it??? I have known Mimi since I was 18!! today, my mom decided she wanted to get our nails done so we went to this salon. the staff were nice but acted as if they were in a hurry to get everyone out to get to the next customer. while getting my nails done the whole process was completely different from any other place i've been too. the nails were put on, she then started putting the acrylic on before cutting the nails then she cut them to the length i wanted, she then filed them down and buffed them but she didn't get the glue or anything from underneath the nails ( i had to when we left) and she proceeded to put the polish on. i didn't notice until i had left because of how she was holding my hand but a few of the nails don't even fit and i'll have to get another place to fix them costing me more money. go somewhere else!! you can get them done better for less. if i would have known she paid over $50 for this i would have made her go back but we were too far away. read more

I went here after a referral from a friend and can say that I will never be back. The lady that did my manicure/SNS and pedicure was rude and did a horrible job. Any nail technician should know when you ask for a manicure and pedicure that they will need to trim the cuticles, etc. Well, apparently NOT because mine look horrific. I came here for a gel manicure because my other nail salon in Hamburg wasn't open. Likely they talked about me the whole time, the service was rushed, and the workmanship pretty terrible. Because the store became busy while I was there, he rushed the manicure, convinced me not to get a gel manicure, and then talked me out of a nude polish color. I get my eye brows done here every couple of weeks and I leave so happy every time. Mimi is great and so sweet. Every time I visit, everyone is really sweet and helpful, which is why I find it weird that they have like one and a half stars. But I guess a lot of nail shops do. This is literally the only place I will ever go to get my eye brows waxed. I attached pictures. Having your eye brows waxed changes your whole face. I know a lot of people have anxiety about their eye brows and going to the best place, but I've been to a lot of places here in Lexington, and I promise Mimi has to be one of the best! I've been here 3 times now in the last couple months after switching away from the place I used to go to due to a discrimination issue with my best friend, we had explained to them our previous issues, they were welcoming and our first visit was wonderful. Our 2nd visit, the guy who did my pedi and sns was horrible, the massage hurt, he burned me more then once with the electric file, it was not good. So for the 3rd time we made sure to call ahead and get an appointment with the same guy who I had the first time, Wei. Lets start with the hygiene issue. Not once but TWICE while I was getting my pedicure, the guy next to me knocked over my guys tray of nail clippers and files onto the floor. The fact that these tools were all sitting there when I got there in the first place was enough to make me wonder if they had even been cleaned at all, after they were dropped on the floor he DID NOT clean them, the first time he dipped the nail clippers into my pedicure water, the 2nd time nothing. He used tools that had fallen onto the floor without cleaning them!!! I asked for a french manicure on my toes and french SNS on my fingers. My toes looked ok other then the fact that I had to refile them when I got home due to the sharp corners that were not filed smooth catching on my sock. I was told you cannot do french with SNS, which I KNOW for a fact is not true as I've been doing SNS on my nails for almost 4 years now and have had french done MANY times, he told me he could do it as a full set (acrylic) with french. I said NO, I do NOT want acrylic on my nails, so I opt to just have a solid color done in SNS (not what I wanted) I said I did not want my nails trimmed shorter, so he starts with the electric drill and manages to break one of my nails (a decent sized chip out of the end of it) I said well I guess we are going to have to trim them back now, he said no he could fix it, I told him I did not want a tip put on it just to trim them back a little, he said no he would make a "bridge" to fix it - he put ACRYLIC on my nail!!! I told him 3 times NO and he said, not it's ok it will work, it will be fine, it's not fine, he put acrylic across half of the front of one of my nails, it's very thick on one side (part of the reason I didn't want acrylic in the first place is cause it's so thick) and thin on the other as he put SNS on top of the acrylic. He then didn't even manage to file it straight, I had to refile them when I got home as it was VERY crooked. Needless to say I was not at all amused, I was so angry I did not leave a tip (which I have never done before at a nail place) I was going to just let it go, move on, find a new nail place again whatever, until I looked at my bank statement this morning where the pending amount from them finally cleared 5 days after I had been there, and they STOLE from me, my total was $85, I very clearly wrote 0 on the tip line of the receipt and $85 across the total. An amount for $93 cleared my account this morning (I will be calling the bank as soon as they open and I will be getting this taken care of) I will NEVER go back to this place nor recommend them to anyone! EDIT to add: After contacting the bank about the unauthorized charges on my account, the bank found in my favor and refunded my money, the SAD part is because it was only $8 you know there will not be any charges pressed for theft! It's not about the amount, it's about the fact that they STOLE from me, on top of the horrible service! Ohh and now they have felt the need to change up their facebook page from a business page to a community page so that it no longer allows people to place reviews on it and they delete everything you know there is a problem!!! if there were a such a thing as giving a business 0 stars then i would. i went to get my eyebrows waxed here and the woman who waxed my eyebrows, ripped of the end of my left eye brow and made both eyebrows look uneven. when i told her the difference between my eyebrows and how i noticed something was wrong, she proceeded to tell me that my eyebrows are naturally uneven and thats why the end of my left eyebrow is ripped off (obviously untrue) so i asked for a refund and she repeatedly told me to never come back to her store and that she never wants to see me again in front of all the customers and that she could only give half of my money back. she was extremely rude and carried on the situation by arguing and asking other coworkers if my eyebrows were uneven to them... extremely unprofessional! read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Worst experience ever!! We were told it would be a couple minute wait for a gel manicure and we waited 45 minutes. My sisters manicure only took 30 from start to finish. My manicure took longer, but there is gel all around my cuticle that she tried to cut off at the end and ended up cutting my skin. They don't cap the ends of your nails. My polish is uneven and all over the place. I wouldn't even give it one star but had to write review. They don't sterilize their tools, they just put them in the pack as a facade. If I could give this place a zero or a negative star rating, I would. I was in the area and failed to check the reviews... I'll never do that again. I came in with long natural nails. I wanted gel french tip. The lady was nice and convinced me that she need to file a little. She proceeded to take a lot of length off. When she added the white polish, she missed a corner of my nail and I immediately told her. She said "I'll fix it" and smiled a sweet smile. Long story short, she filed the corner of my nail to the point that it was crooked! I immediately told her that I was upset and not satisfied. They started talking in their language and then the owner MiMi said "she said your nail was already crooked." Why do you file a nail after polish?! Because she was trying to correct her mistake instead of correcting the layers of polish. Yes, it would've been time consuming, but geeez, it was her mistake and I'm paying $30 for an hour of work! I don't expect you to mess my nails up to look worse than when I came in. To top that all off, of course I had to pay because she "fixed it short, one length". The man doing a pedicure came over with his latex gloves dripping in water and we know what else, and grabbed for my credit card... I've been a loyal customer getting my eyebrows waxed by none other than Mimi herself for over 5 years going religiously every two weeks.. needless to say I won't be returning after the treatment I've received the last three times I've been. after waiting over an hour to get my brows done and told that "I get paid more money to do nails than eyebrows" ,my self respect is more important to me than my eyebrows being perfect. Not impressed. This was our first time there they were very busy as all nail shops are but we went in for a Mani and pedicure. I paid 30$ for my daughter's pedicure, the man rushed on my daughter's feet and he tried to argue with me about the service as I was watching him do her feet the whole time it was a 15min job and the woman that did my manicure cut my finger and she's not a license technician because her was not on the wall. I came in to get pampered but because they were busy they rushed on our service and charged us full price. Never again. Tip to Top nails it don't matter how busy you are good service is good service. Instead of arguing with clients they should worry about performing good quality work. The only person worth service with is Mimi she was nice. I've been going here for 3 years. I decide to be brave today and take my kids with me (3 kids). My kids were content with the slushies and chips, not being loud or out of order. I get a polish change on my toes then get into the chair for a fill-in. She takes my polish off, then proceeds to tell me that I need a new set, fine, but then she says that I won't have time because my kids are there...which means what? I've been here plenty of times when mothers (even fathers) have brought their children along and the environment has been contained, without distractions from the kids, like it was today! So why today did it become a problem on top of the fact that she basically refused to service to me because my kids were with me. I'm feeling a certain type of way about the state of this nation and race relations as it is, and the fact that I'm a black woman with hers kids only makes me think the worse, which is so disappointing and hurtful. It's a long story, but the short version is got my nails done here. Later that day my hands started to hurt and swell. I had slices all over my hands from the tools. Which I had told her she was hurting me while I was at the nail salon. Called talked to Mimi she said come in and we fix the issue. The next day I went to a local salon to have the nails removed because I was in so much pain. Upon this visit and the pain I was in, I called Top Nail Spa and talked to the OWNER and was saying I didn't want my nails redone I just wanted a refund because my hands were hurting to bad. He was very rude on the phone but at the end he said come to the store and we will refund price of nails. Upon arrival Mimi and the owner denied ever talking to me. They didn't seem at all interested in looking at the cuts on my hands. And then went to tell me they would do nothing for me because I had not come back in with the set of nails on. Number one the issue wasn't my nails it was the fact my finger tips were covered in cuts and my hands were in pain. They said where I had gone to another nail place there was nothing at all they would do. After wasting my gas, time and energy leaving very upset I got nothing in return. I then contacted the BBB and requested a refund in return the nail place replied they could not help me because I had gone to another nail place and "got them done". I got the nails removed because one of your techs sliced my hands up and was rude during my services. I do not recommend anyone to go here. They are too high priced. Mimi leaves scabs when she does your eye brows. The owner just stands around micromanaging and being completely rude and anti- social. Half the nail techs either know how to do just feet or just hands. You have nail techs that are rude, they want to do your nails how they want and when you correct them they treat you like you are the problem. And don't mention their attitude toward tipping. Their attitude comes off as they deserve a tip no matter what and it better be a good one. This is not a one time experience review. This is my review over all the years my mother and I have gone. I will fight tooth and nail to make sure people know what they are paying for and what to expect. read more

Yes, there are days where the wait is longer than others but, there's a reason for that. You're waiting for quality service from quality people. I come here periodically to get my eyebrows done. I came in, Mimi greeted me and told me to sit, and she...disappeared. Another woman came out to do my eyebrows that spoke little to no English. I told her I like to keep my eyebrows full. She grabbed my head and said, "head goes here" and pushed my head back on the chair (it was awkward and a little painful!). She then proceeded to remove half my right eyebrow but left hair underneath. They're comically bad. I just left. The only way to fix them is to let them grow back, so what could she do anyway? But what *I* can do is warn you guys. Mimi does a good job with eyebrows. Just make sure to ask for her and insist she stay and actually do them. I am new to Lexington and was looking for a high rated nail salon and I had read the good reviews for Top Nail. I have been twice for a Pedicure and I was extremely disappointed each time. To be specific, the nail technician barely skimmed the service and by the time I had arrived home my feet were as rough as when i had arrived for the Pedicure. I went to get a manicure with a couple girlfriends, this was my first time here. The store was clean and aesthetically pleasing, however that is where my praise ends. I wanted a regular manicure and the technician doing my nails was not terribly friendly - he didn't really ask me any of my preferences and got annoyed with me when I was talking with one of my friends. When trimming my cuticles, he cut too far and made me bleed to the point that I bled through the entire manicure. He never apologized. When my polish dried, it was full of bubbles and waves. Then the technician disappeared in the back while my nails were drying so that I couldn't address any of these issues with him personally. I won't be returning to this salon. read more
