My dogs have been clients of Top Notch since it opened many years ago. They go above and beyond to treat each dog with care and kindness. The owner, Lisa, even picked up a prescription for my dog while he was boarding and I was out of the country. With my dog Riley, they take extra care with getting him settled in and adjusted because he developed a bit of separation anxiety after the pandemic. They always have him looking his best after his every six weeks grooming. To make it easier for me (not having to call for an appointment) they've been booking him out every six weeks for the entire year. It is so easy for me to remember, and they do such a great job with him. I cannot say enough how much trust I have in Lisa and her team at Top Notch. Top Notch was once a great kennel. But it has new ownership and it is absolutely horrible. About a year ago, it cost $40 to board my dog overnight. The new ownership has jacked up the price by 50%! It now costs $60 rather than $40! Included in that is $10/day just to feed your dog!!! Are you kidding me?!?!? If I board him there four days, I could have bought a bag of the Kirkland brand they use that would last him 6 weeks! When I brought my dog home, he ran straight to his water bowl and drank nearly the entire bowl. Apparently Top Notch no longer provides water to boarders!!! It probably costs another $10/day for that. What next? $10/day for the air he breathes? Last time they overcharged me for my stay. The clerk said she couldn't give me the breakdown of the charge until she ran my card. Then I could log onto their new website to see the breakdown. Sure enough, she overcharged me. Oddly, she didn't know how to credit my card, only charge it. I never did see the credit come through on my statement. They had charged me for the private play for the day I checked out, even though I was checking out first thing in the morning. It seemed clear that they were systematically overcharging people because the charge for private play was automatically generated as soon as the system registered a new day (i.e., at midnight). Most people never knew they were overcharged. I complained both times. However, both times I told them not to have the manager call. It simply wasn't worth it because I have far too much to do to argue with corporate. Nonetheless their corporate manager called and used corporate spin about their changes, and how they were only doing it for my good. Really? Wasting my time only added insult to injury. Top Notch used to know my dog, what he ate, what he likes, etc. Now they don't know anything about him. They used to provide a "report card" after each stay, telling me how he did. Now you have to log on to their website to see an impersonal computer screen of notes. Honestly, I don't want to log onto yet another website. A 50% increase in price for worse service, $10/day if you don't want your pet to starve, an obviously dehydrated pet when you get them back. And all that for 50% more + a $10 overcharge to boot. And if you'd like, you can also get a phone call with corporate spin. I've given Top Notch $1000s over the last 20 years. They won't get even a single $1 more from me. We used Top Notch for the first time and had a great experience. The kennels are clean and during our walk through we did not see one dirty kennel. The place is very professionally run and it shows. I made a reservation for my 2 dogs here over a holiday weekend. I've kept them both here before without any issues. My plans had changed so I had to cancel. I canceled ahead of time per what I had done normally & I was told I needed to cancel even further out because it was a holiday so now would be charged a late cancellation fee. I asked where that was stated & if I could speak to management because I was never told this beforehand or I would've followed that. Well I got the run around when trying to speak to anyone higher up & only was able to talk to the front desk person that told me I had to pay the late cancellation fee. I didn't mind paying this had I been notified beforehand. There was basically nothing they tried to do to fix this either (mind you I've had my 2 dogs stay there multiple times). Now I've received an email that my dogs aren't welcome there anymore. The email was highly unprofessional. It actually made me laugh a bit that a business would actually draft that up & send it. Our Cane Corso boarded at Top Notch kennels for 16 days. This place is a clean facility and my dog was in love with staff. Staff kept us updated while we were out of state, he had a daily report card, he was groomed before we picked him up, he had playtime and looked leaner when we picked him up. Sorry to say, but we just won't be bringing our pup back here, it's just not healthy or safe. We had done boarding and mostly daycare, even when they had quite a few cases & infections of kennel cough. They assured us all that they were cleaning & sanitizing things (& supposedly got vaccinations info from all dogs staying there) - Modesto location. (Our dog had her up to date vaccines & still got kennel cough). Our dog picked up a horrendous case of kennel cough here. The cost was quite a bit for the vet bill to get her healthy & able to be around other dogs again. She's now at another daycare place that has never had a problem with kennel cough. I hope Top Notch can remedy their issues & make their location a safer place to bring dogs because we need services like this in town. read more

We have been taking our golden retriever Lily to Top Notch--Modesto since she was fully vaccinated. She is 10 months now and loves going there. She does group play when we board her and always comes home a happy girl. The staff is great, especially Sam who is always very friendly on the phone and replies quickly to emails. Not sure if ownership changed or new employees but the level of service and this frantic phone calls from their staff calling me regarding the waitlist is just stupid! First, relax.....breathe it's going to be ok. Rushing me on the call telling me I can't think about it first and talk to my wife is just rude!!! You called me about the wait....it wasn't ideal because it wasn't what we were waiting for and you presented another option that's not conducive to our 2 pups and you won't give me a few hours to talk to my better 1/2...? I took my 6ish year out large breed rescue to be evaluated for doggie day care @ Top Notch. My dog has major anxiety entering buildings and being separated from me. I fully expected for him to fail his evaluation and I was very nervous. Upon picking him up later that day, I was told that he showed signs of anxiety and uneasiness but that with time and continued visits, he should feel comfortable. He was on an ongoing evaluations. ( YAY! He didn't fail) Th staff is great, very patient and answered all my questions. They were great and patient with Charlee. Top Notch Kennels took great care of my Belgian Sheepdog for the two weeks we were on vacation. Those of us in this breed are very particular when it comes to who we entrust with our dogs. Typically they don't do well in kennel situations. Lisa Moore and her staff played with Bacchus every day, and he was in excellent condition when I got him back. The staff made sure I vaccinated my dog with Canine influenza and Bordetella vaccine prior to bringing him in, and he was in perfect condition when I picked him up. Next time I'll plan further ahead and get some training time for him. I've read Lisa Moore's Blogs and really agree with her training philosophy and methods. read more

This review is for the Top Notch Kennel located in Turlock. (Turlock location is not on Yelp) I just boarded my dog for a few days. The facility is super clean and well taken care of. The staff is super friendly and I felt my dog is going to be in good hands. They sent me pictures during the stay of my dog and she looked happy. When I picked her up, I received a report card which showed how she ate and and how her mood was. Everything we dropped off with her was listed on the report card and returned with her on pick up day. I definitely recommend the Turlock location and will return when needed. read more

This place is unbelievable! I Spent a lot of money there for two of my dogs to be board and trained and they didn't even do a good job!....I've used them for grooming on all my dogs until last year, they told me the day before they were all going in that they needed vaccinations. My Veterinarian had faxed over numerous times the vaccination records but insisted they were in need of a couple. I asked why would you notify me the day before the appointment?! They refused to service us on any of the services they offer because I was upset about them canceling the grooming appointment. I can't believe how bad the customer service is at both locations! I don't recommend any one to take their fur babies to them for anything!! My dogs had the needed vaccines and my veterinarian even confirmed it. Even though my dogs are vaccinated they still got kennel cough from a grooming visit at your facility! I know it's not 100% protection but obviously you let a dog or many come without the needed vaccinations! read more

Overall this place is beautiful inside and out. The care of the groomer is amazing and they took care of my GSD like he was their own. The groomer pays very good attention to detail and notified me of a growth on his body as well as excessive itching from his allergies. The groomers are incredible, Sammy and Nancy knock my socks off and I'm always pleased with how my pup looks. I have brought my animals three times every experience got worst with every visit well this one hit home for me and I will never be returning again. Number one the hospitality is horrible and when I had booked my plan they never kept there word in the type of care I thought I would be receiving. I receive O pictures updates left me worried they stayed 6 days. I called to check they said very little just they were A's and finally sent me pictures because I ask to send them too and when I asked what happened and I was not happy they did I don't know "WOW" I pick my them up and they did not give me back all my things that were expensive dog bowls and to find my poop boy had his hold nail missing and they said nothing about it to me as if they never knew but how deep it was when it happened in there care he bleed sure of it. If you want really poor care and to have rude woman to do not hold up they're job with quality and care walk away almost paying a $1000 to have this shit done to my animal's no thanks. Over the years I have taken three classes with dogs that had specific behavioral issues. The classes were helpful in curbing unwanted destructive behavior, Lisa and the staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I wouldn't hesitate taking any needed classes offered here. Although I have never boarded here, yesterday I picked up a friend's pup that had been boarded here for a few days. (Previously arranged) I was impressed with thier facilities and the staff, both employees I interacted with seemed to enjoy being there and working with the dogs. Avoid this location. First off I boarded my two lab's for 6 days in January. I did sign up for what the call snack. I was told my dogs got a D in eating. So there snacks was to put gravy and hotdogs in the food. My dogs don't eat wet food not was this explained to us. They proceeded to do this everyday which the dogs wont did eat the food so they had to throw the food away daily. They didn't care because I brought my food from home. Basically throwing my money away and will not issue a refund for the food. Spoke with Lisa who said she not In the business of refunding money. To me a snack is a treat given to the dog not adding wet gravy to my dog food. Spoke with staff they said yeah it's not explained very well. Secondly they said my dog failed the play group because they wanted to only socialize with each other and not with other dogs. Which I find odd since when I picked up my dog. Other dog where in a play group and most of them were just laying on the ground by themselves. Lisa recommend we go to a different kennel. Which is true and I would tell anyone who is thinking of using them to find a different kennel too. Lastly, notice my older dog having a cough once we got them home. He is up to date with all his vaccines. We have taken them to other kennels in the past and they are normally exhausted afterwards. Not here which I'm assuming they were just keeps In a kennel all day. Bottom line I would recommend a different kennel. read more

This review is specifically for the Play All Daycare facility. My dog absolutely loves this facility and the employees treat your dog as if it were their own. My dog, Dutchess, is obsessed with Hailey (sorry if I spelt wrong!) and she totally reciprocates the love! Today when I went to pick up Dutch, Hailey had bought her a new toy that she loves to play with. I'm seriously stunned by all the love these people give my dog, it gives me so much peace of mind knowing my dog is in good hands. I also love that this location is indoors with air conditioning as we are reaching 100 degree temperatures here in the central valley. I have zero complaints! Excellent staff and excellent facility! We will never return to this facility and strongly caution anyone else from utilizing the services of this facility. Our dog was boarded here for a period of 5 days. During this time, our dog incurred an injury from another boarder. Additionally, our pet was described by the staff to have a period of illness. We were not informed of either scenario, despite California laws (SB 945) that explicitly requires a pet boarding facility to "ensure that the owner of a pet is notified immediately that his or her pet is sick or injured unless the owner has indicated in writing that notification of any, or a particular, type of illness or injury is not required." When I contacted the facility manager, Carolyn Hinkel, about the incident, she was not aware of this requirement. Additionally, when I spoke with the facility owner (Lisa) she was unapologetic and very unprofessional during the telephone conversation. She ended the conversation by hanging up in my face. After reading other unsatisfactory Yelp reviews, it is not a surprise that this is how Lisa conducted herself. Ultimately, my family never received an apology for the lack of notification of either incident that took place while our pet was in the care of this facility. If we were informed at the time of either occurrence, we could have taken appropriate and immediate action. The care that was provided was insufficient and confirmed as such when our pet was evaluated by a licensed veterinarian. read more

I am so disappointed to have to have write a review on a place that I thought was TOP NOTCH here in Modesto. I took both my Mastiffs in On Friday and when I picked them up on Sunday afternoon , they both had KENNEL COUGH!!! Now my poor babies are very ill, on medication. The gal at the front desk at the TOP NOTCH KENNELS in MODESTO asked me if I was told about the outbreak of kennel cough. Our dog came home very ill and lethargic after being at Top Notch for a week. We took her in for Vet exam and her liver enzymes were elevated to a dangerous level. She was also limping in pain, but until we gave her medicine for liver, she could not take anything for her limp that she came back with after being there as well. Dr M stated that she ingested something while at the kennel. We paid hundreds in vet fees. Our pup has never been the same after staying at this horrible place. Our 5 year old Doberman DIED at their Turlock facility. We had boarded in Modesto close to 10 times, he always loved and enjoyed in there. But Modesto was full, waitlist only, so they suggested calling Turlock. Turlock also had a 5 dog waitlist in front of us, but miraculously had an opening the next day. This was suspicious, my wife worked in a kennel when she was younger and enlightened me to horrors of overcrowding. However we were leaving for business and needed Him watched for 4 days. Upon Arriving in Turlock he quickly marked his territory on the front counter and went into the back room. Back there he jumped up on the window to see us and seemed scared, this was unusual behavior for him. 2 days passed when I received a call from the Owner Lisa, who said he had passed in his sleep. She did a good job with the theatrics on the phone, claiming this had never happened before, etc. She was quick to want to take him to UCDavis for testing but seemed to have a preconceived option on his death being twisted stomach/ bloat (GDV). The doctor later 'confirmed' but after talking with him seem coached/ bribed and unprepared for my call. He did say it could have been found and surgically fix if noticed, which tells us he was left unattended for a long stretch of time without interaction/ supervision. After I pushed back for more information/ documentation from the kennel, none was available. We're not really buying it. The point is, there would have been signs. Had someone been present something as simple as gas-x could have gave him relief and bought time to surgically correct it. Ultimately our whole family has zero closure and very little information to help cope with a loss of a loved family member that slept by our side every night. I'm not here to bash this specific kennel or owner, rather want to warn owners please ask questions to kennels about GDV and other possible complications and if / how they are prepared and trained in treating your specific animals and breeds needs. Don't be a guinea pig or statistic in order to create awareness. read more

I have used the boarding services a few times and the Service is OK. However tonight when I picked up my dog from the peewee cottage he reeked of urine. And his paws seemed muddy and after closer inspection that is where the pee smell was coming from. The staff here is truly hit or miss. Sometimes I enjoy engaging with them and they are great with our dog. Other times I really wonder what is going on here. Our dog has a lot of energy and is a bit crazy for attention, but never aggressive or over the top...simply high energy. He sometimes has to get a time out, makes sense. They pride themselves on telling you they will give you a print out report card, we have been there a dozen times and I have received one of these report cards once ever. Last time I picked up my dog, the lady told me that he had a great time and a few times he tried to open the gate with his nose. Her interpretation of that action was that he must not want to be there and that maybe we shouldn't bring him there anymore if he does that next time... Ummmmm, how about he is smart and like many dogs he tries to be an escape artist. Is she for real?? Hell with her attitude maybe he was trying to get away from her and her craziness!!
