Completely underwhelming. Place is chaotic, from the parking lot to check out. NOT a relaxing dinner experience. Tables are crowded and I felt like I was on an airplane for a table of 9 - no elbow room and nowhere to put my wallet. Service is annoyingly fast; menus delivered and was immediately asked what we wanted to drink, followed by what we wanted to eat. Ordered some apps and salads but came with food, making the the table a crowded mess. "Cocktails" cannot have but a drop of alcohol and good luck getting one anyway. Beer was warm. Have to ask for water and it came mid meal. Was asking us if we wanted to go boxes before we were even finished and never asked about dessert. So service is rushed, to say the least. Food was disappointing. Cornbread was good but why do we have to ask for butter (and it's not butter, it's plastic tubs of yellow salty oil)? Many condiments in serving size packets which was unappealing. Food was greasy and either overly salty or bland. We always love coming to Top O The River when we're visiting family! The place is absolutely huge with tables that can accomodate the whole family gathering during the holidays (seriously, I'm not kidding) What's even better about this place is their portions and selection. A bit pricey, but definitely worth it. I got the peel n eat shrimp, which come out cold, mind you, but were delicious and very filling (had to get a box). The thing to try here is definitely the catfish; you can get it as a whole filet or as filet "fingers" almost, and either one will definitely satisfy that fried fish craving you've been trying to satiate. I also took a pic of the onion rings we got because WOW, they're huge and delicious. I have never been disappointed in the food here and it is a staple when we visit the area during the holidays. This was my first time visiting this place. I did some research on Google it didn't have the times the business was opening. However it did give me the website, I went to the website and it has the opening time is incorrect says 4:00 for Saturday when it is actually 3:00. It says 12:00 for Sundays when it's really 11:30. Wish there were more options for the sides (fries, baked potato, and spicy beans ). I choose the broiled catfish fillet and fried shrimp with the baked potato. I wanted a loaded potato but was told they don't have loaded but I could get cheese on it. Brandon brought a mini pan of cornbread with coleslaw and pickled onions. I have never had cornbread like that (it wasn't moist it was actually kinda dry). I tried the onions and coleslaw with the cornbread and it was actually good. Who would've thought I would eat onions and cornbread??? Not me lol? The food came out and was hot and omg good. The tartar sauce was horrible but the cocktail sauce was good. They gave me daisy sour cream, butter and my cheese on the side. I don't understand why my cheese wasn't on my potato so it could melt. Popcorn Shrimp and we chose White Northern Beans as our side. Allll of this darn food for $25.50. The catfish fillets were cooked PERFECTLY!!!!! It was wet or soggy. The batter was seasoned. No complaints. The fried gulf shrimp were huge and delicious. The creole boiled shrimp I didn't try. I'm not a fan of cold shrimp at allllll. The popcorn shrimp were good also. The hush puppies were divine and house made. You could taste the onion powder and the sweetness at the same time. The great northern beans tasted like they had been slow cooked all day long. Stopped by here on 25 February to eat. Parked in the parking lot right at the door and called to see how long the wait was and was told no wait for two people went in and got in line, got to the desk then was told it would be a 25 minute wait. We told the girl at the desk that we had just called and was right outside when we called to see how long the wait was and she acted like it was no big deal. So we told them good by and left. I have been to the Gadsden location several times, and I was not disappointed by this one either. I came on a Monday night and it was almost empty, on the plus side though, we got better service. The complimentary cornbread and coleslaw were great, but the pickled onions are already giving me farts. For my dinner I got the fried chicken tenders with a baked potato. My girlfriend has been talking me about this place and how it's one of her families favorite restaurants. I was very much excited to try them out.the stay pretty busy and we had a half hour wait but it was worth it. The interior reminded me of the fish camp restaurants back in NC/SC. With this being my first time hear I let my girlfriend pick her favorite items which included a pot of greens. Each meal also comes with coleslaw pickles onions and hot skillet cornbread. The cornbread was a great compliment to the greens which were Smokey with just a slight hint of vinegar. We got the build your own platter where we were able to select two seafood items. We got the whole fried catfish and the fried crab claws. I had them catfish fried hard and it was prefect. Wes shared the platter which had 2 pieces of catfish which was just enough for my girlfriend and I. Every table is served a small skillet of Mexican cornbread, slaw and pickled onions. The food was so delicious and was piping hot when it came to the table.
