Update: the owner reached out and has refunded my service. As well as apologized for the experience. I booked an appointment for gel nails and gel pedicure with callus treatment and a longer foot massage. I left with a gel manicure and a regular polish pedicure. The gel manicure is messy and so thick the nails don't even look like they have a shape. The gel is pooled to one side and the tips. The pedicure had no massage at all and just a severe exfoliation with sugar scrub to my shins. The pedicure is a mess with polish everywhere and my toe nails are all different lengths. The location is small and packed. It's dirty. The staff spend the entire time talking amongst each other in their native language. Truly upset as this place was recommended and I will never be returning. I wish Yelp allowed no stars

I decided to give them another shot and this time they really paid attention to my cuticles and cleaned up my nails before applying the gel-x nails. I also got a little star design which they did a very good job of painting on my nails. All in all to say, I'm glad I came back!

This place is amazing! They went above and beyond with service, Amy not only did the nail design exactly what I asked for but she corrected a bad Gel X job I did somewhere else. I've been going to TopCoat consistently for about a year for hard gel manicures and occasional pedicures. I've seen Amy, Brandy, Helen, Nana, and today saw Michael for the first time. He is new to the salon and did a great job. Everyone's always super friendly, efficient and most importantly-- they all do a great job! I really like this nail salon so far. I've been twice, once for gel-x/pedicure and once just for a gel-x fill. I've had two different techs and both have done a great job. Everyone is friendly and the place is clean. If you bring in a picture of what you want they can replicate it exactly. It's not cheap at all but if you're looking for good nail art and something fun it's a great place.

Best mani/pedi I've had in Marin. Kieu was very attentive to detail and spent ample time delivering a quality result. I did not feel rushed at all despite coming in for my appt one hour before closing. Builder gel mani and regular pedi was $108+tip. Super reasonable for this area!

When I book a nail appointment, I like to read reviews to see which nail technician I should request and so thought I should do the same for others. I'm updating here to say that after multiple visits, all of the women that I've worked with are excellent! In the past I've had wonderful experiences with Brandy, Candy (nail art), and Vivian - all conscientious and talented. Today , another great mani/pedi with Jenny and Heidi. I'm so impressed with each technician's desire to get things 'just right' and remedy any daily wear and tear. Their work never feels rushed as can sometimes happen in a busy salon, understandably. I should have listened to my friends when they told me TopCoat Nail Spa was a shitshow! When I pay for acrylics I expect the proper polymer dipping method, however their version of 'acrylics' was painting press on nails. Because of this, there are massive clear gaps between the real nail and the tip. (Check photo). They absolutely overcharged for a basic French tip-- $100!! Wont be returning EVER! read more

I have been here twice and the first time I received an excellent manicure/pedicure with zero issues. I went about two weeks ago and the technician cut my toenails so short that it will take them months to grow out. They just look awful. My fingernails looked fine for a week a, but after I removed the polish, my nails are in terrible shape, peeling and breaking. Not sure what type of polish they used, but it wasn't healthy for my nails. read more

I checked out this newer nail spot recently and had a mixed--but overall interesting--experience…read more First impressions were good: the space was very clean, busy, and well-run. The receptionist was warm, spoke English clearly, and the overall vibe felt more professional and welcoming than some other salons in Marin. They take both cash and Apple Pay, which I appreciated. The appointment itself was fast--almost surprisingly so. I got a very basic acrylic set done in about 40 minutes, whereas this usually takes closer to an hour to an hour and a half. That's both a pro and a con. If you're in a rush and just need something done, this place is efficient. That said, the technician was pretty persistent about upselling (gel, rhinestones, chrome, etc.), and when I declined and asked for something very simple, she seemed a bit irritated. There were also some confusing add-on charges (like an extra fee just for shaping, and then another for polish), which weren't clearly reflected on the sign. In the end, though, the total was still less than what I usually pay at Nails #1, which often creeps up to around $80 after add-ons--so price-wise, this was reasonable. As for the final result: the nails look okay. Not bad, but not super polished either. You can tell they were done quickly--each nail looks slightly different, and the overall finish isn't as refined as what you'd get from a longer, more detailed appointment. It felt more like efficiency over craftsmanship. I did like that I could take a phone call without bothering anyone, and the ambience was calm despite how busy it was. Would I go back? Maybe--if I'm short on time and just need my hands done quickly. But if I want a more meticulous, pampering experience where extra care is taken, I'd probably look elsewhere.

The whole salon is pleasant to be in (decor and music is great) and they have an army of workers. I like regular gel on my nails, but they offer it all. I'm pretty seasoned at this by now and what I've noticed is that I leave with great looking manicures, but every time I go back, my nails are thinner and weaker. I'm not sure if I'll keep going here because they seem to value time over the health of my nails. Every tech is quick to use the chemical remover that will sting/ burn your skin if it touches you, and takes the gel right off like acid. To make things even faster they'll use the dremmel to sand down the nail and remove any residual polish. This results in thinner, weaker, exposed nails over time. So when that chemical remover is painted on- wow! It hurts. It's cold and painful, and by the time you realize it- too late. I'm growing out my nails and letting them replenish themselves before I go back- which could take months. Why go back at all? Convenience, really. I'll likely ask them to lay off the chemical remover and wrap them instead. As far as polish colors go, they seem to have a lot, but they use a ton of DND. I prefer the longevity of OPI, but they do have some of this as well. They keep your info in their system but don't track your colors- note that detail yourself. I don't know if it's a gel thing, but it bothers me how rough they file my nails. It's never done with a fine grain along the edges. Inevitably I'll start snagging things with the edge of my fingernails and need to file them myself. Would I recommend this place? Yes, for ambiance and time alone. The cost is average to high if you go beyond the basic manicures, but this is Marin. I get better quality for the same, or less, in the city- so I may just start going back there until my nails are healthy again.

Love this nail salon! I only tried them for pedicure and it's really good! Diana makes a very good job for my nails (and I always have a problem with some pain in the big toe's nail corners, she does something right and I don't feel this pain the next couple of weeks!). I also add scrubbing, paraffin and massage to my pedicure to feel like a royal once a month:) I saw they do some design on your nails, too but never tried it. The salon is very clean and nice.
