Had the Porcupine Potatoes Appetizer, wasn't very impressed. It was basically fried mashed potatoes with little flavor. It came with a Peter jelly that was tasty and helped, but it was very thin. Service was quite slow. There were a handful of other 2 person parties inside. A couple already had food, so I'm unsure why it took the period of time it did to get served. However, when my Dish arrived, it was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Angelique, with the sauce on the side. The sauce was a high end sausage & white gravy type sauce. Paired with the DELICIOUS Grit Cake, the Chicken and the fried Sweet Potato Hash it was very good! I was not a fan of the Spinach flavors this dish. I normally love Spinach, but this was not a fav for me, so I removed it from my dish. But the dish I'm general was delicious. The husband had the Chicken Maurepas. He said it was "Okay. This is our favorite spot in Hammond to go eat. First of all, the prices are a great deal for the quality of food. I love their sensation salad. It's a hefty portion and the dressing is so good. I always get the crab cakes entree and it's fantastic. They always have plenty of crab in them and aren't too bready. The shrimp remoulade appetizer is also fantastic and we love their fish entrees. read more

I am seriously considering never eating again after my lunch experience here. Not only was the food not very good it was downright depressing. My fault maybe for not ordering salad for lunch .. instead I chose angel hair pasta in a cream sauce with steak. The entree arrived swimming in cream sauce with the steak laid across the top like well I don't know maybe a piece of wood? There was a complete absence of care given to the food and the presentation. Pasta should not be swimming in sauce. I'll try to post a picture of the dish after the meat was removed to take home for the dog.. I didn't take the pasta home because I didn't think they would eat it... Beware! Always ask where the seafood comes from when it says "imported." We asked our waitress where the jumbo shrimp were imported from; she checked and came back saying, "India!" Seriously? We were in Hammond for my granddaughter's graduation May 15th and due to unforeseen circumstances, the restaurant we initially reserved had to cancel their lunch service - one quick last-minute call and Tope la graciously squeezed our party in. Tope La was an okay restaurant. The food wasn't horrible but the actual restaurant was not the best. The inside of the restaurant had a strange smell and the service took very long. The bathrooms smelled like sewage and the mirror on the wall by our booth was dirty. I got the stuffed redfish and it was okay. April 25, 2025 - I have gone to Tope La many times. But, the last few times we went there the food was just ok, not as good as it use to be. Today I found out that Tope La is only open on Wednesday thur Sunday. Not open on Tuesday anymore. No more all day Lunch Price on Tuesday or any other day. But, they have Italian night on Thursdays. Their Crawfish is from Spain and their Shrimp are Imported. They do not have Louisiana Catfish. We live in Louisiana close to the Gulf and we can't even get Louisiana Seafood. We took my wife's best friend out for her birthday dinner and set the reservation for 730 pm. We got there and got seated. Our waitress finally made it.to greet us around 10-15 after we were seated. Took our drink orders and appetizer orders. We ordered the blackened grilled applicator and it was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Great flavor. The crab and eggplant stack was also a hit two fried eggplant stacked on sauteed spinach topped with a crab sauce. For dinner we had the 6 oz bacon-wrapped filet minor, boiled redfish topped with a lump crab sauce and pecan rice, and the top la country fried steak topped with an andouille sauce on mashed potatoes. All were a hit and cooked to perfection. For dessert, it was the favorite of bread pudding with a side of bananas and topped with a bit of infused sauce and the chocolate mousse cake with a raspberry drizzle. Again, these were awesome. My only issue was that our server seemed to disappear a lot and was hard to find, these were the four stars. Service wasn't bad but could have been better for the price we were paying. My friends and I gave Tope La a try last week as a post Christmas treat. And what a treat it was! We went midday so we're able to order from the lunch menu. We started with red bean queso as an appetizer. It was something new for us. So delicious. It was made with puréed red bens, smoked sausage and cheese. This came served with a plate of fresh tortilla chips. I ordered the sugar cane salmon which was grilled salmon drizzled with cane syrup. It was tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant and inviting. All staff members were quite friendly. I will definitely be back. read more

In Hammond for a downtown festival/street fair featuring - among other things - the amazing Marc Broussard. I'd heard about the place through the 'vine and am so glad to have had the opportunity to try their menu. Loved the vibe walking in and landed at the bar - where else, right? Bartender made a nice cocktail and ordered the "Crabmeat Stuffed Redfish" - with an artichoke, sun dried tomato, spinach and Pepper Jack cream sauce. My wife and I went during her birthday weekend in mid-October. It was a Saturday and we were practically the only ones there. The food was amazing, our waitress (Amber) made wonderful recommendations and the ambiance was so nice. The first hostess that sat us down, I did not care for much, a bit snooty, but the second one was much better and cheery! I am vegan and Amber coordinated with the chef to 'veganize' a plate for me, which I was very thankful for!!! I went to Tope La a few weeks ago for my friend's graduation lunch. My friend and so many other people in Hammond had hyped this place us so much but I wasn't entirely impressed. She had a large reservation and it seemed as though they may have forgotten about it because we sat in two separate booths next to each other instead of at a table all together. The booths were also uncomfortable and hard to get out of because you would sink pretty far into the booth which made eating a little hard to do comfortably. We ordered the bayou dip for the table and it was pretty good. I ordered the crab cakes which were also good but I was not a fan of the Sid wi ordered with it. The side I got was the shrimp and eggplant casserole and I was not a fan at all of it. The service was good and the restaurant seemed nice but overall it wasn't anything spectacular and was overrated. I'd rather go somewhere else for a nice restaurant experience, especially if I'm going to pay the prices we did for that lunch. read more

Probably the nicest restaurant in Hammond. It is located in the historic downtown area near the railroad. We came for $1 martini night on Wednesday. The only martinis that are $1 are straight vodka or gin. You can make it dirty no charge. Flavored martinis like cosmos and lemon drops are $3. A full menu is available at the bar. We had the appetizer sampler which came with potato balls, corn dogs, alligator, andouille, and spicy shrimp. It was very good and a nice portion. I didn't know what to expect when I came here. I don't know what kind of food they served here. I feel it's New Orleans comfort food with a fancy flare. Once I looked at the menu, I found multiple things I would like to try but I decided to go with the chicken stack. I easily described it as chicken parm with shrimp. I don't feel that description does it justice. This was phenomenal! The chicken had a nice crunch and flavor while still being juicy. The sauce was a marinara cream sauce which was perfect. The cheesy shrimp topping was just perfection. I had a side of au gratin potatoes which was some of the best au gratin potatoes I've ever had. Delicious farm to table food concept. I was surprisingly happy to find this quaint restaurant in the downtown area. They have a nice big round bar thats fun to sit at and have a drink before you sit down for dinner and they also have a decent happy hour.We had a whole spread for our table and started with Alligator, "Uncle E's" Crispy Smoked Wings, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and my favorite ...Red Bean Queso. Whooo whooo!! This place is amazing!! Although I live almost an hour away this would still be my top choice for Sunday Brunch. Heck...brunch, lunch, dinner...bring it all on! I met my girlfriends here for brunch and we started with a few $2 mimosas and $3 bloody marys. Then we added the most amazing appetizer while making our entrée choices...a red bean queso dip. This was so unbelievably good and so unique! It was smoky and creamy and not overpowering especially for someone like me who only considers themselves a mediocre fan of traditional red beans. I seriously wanted to hog the entire bowl away from my two friends. Even the chips that came with it had a little bit of a mild peppery flavor. I wish I could get the recipe for this because it would be a huge hit at parties!! For my entrée I choose the Tope La Sardou. They took a traditional Eggs Sardou (which is kind of like an eggs Benedict with sautéed spinach added in) and they kicked it up a notch by serving it over fried artichoke cakes...yes, fried artichoke cakes! And if that's not enough it comes paired with a mini serving of Pain Perdue (French toast) toped with fresh berries and sauce. Everything we ate was so flavorful, so filling and so perfectly cooked that just writing about it has me craving more! The best part was that the price was moderate and quite reasonable for a nice Sunday brunch gathering. The ambience of the restaurant is classy but not overly fancy and the service was top-notch. We made reservations for Easter Brunch. We had no idea it was going to be buffet style and $40 per person with gratuity included. I'm not a fan of seafood but the spread was okay. We had eggs Benedict, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits, chicken and waffles, and coffee. They also had seafood gumbo, mahi, grits, and I think crab bisque. Again I'm not a seafood person and am allergic to shellfish but they had plenty of other tasty items. We really enjoyed the desserts! Strawberry shortcake as well as the bread pudding was to die for! The coffee tasted like community which was a major plus! My friend sent back her orange juice because it tasted like Tang! The restaurant Is in an old building but has character. It felt a little muggy and warm as it began to fill up. My son was really surprised and enjoyed his Easter surprise brunch! The service was average as it got busier.
