We've been going to Topline for more than 10 years I can tell you the number 1, 2 and 3 reasons to visit the place: 1. Price, 2. Nice, knowledgeable staff, and 3. Price. Seriously, this place has hands down the best prices on wine. For example, we just loaded up on Bennet Lane Maximus for $21.99, which is between $2 and $10 less per bottle than everywhere else. You can feel 100% confident that the price you are paying for wine is the absolute cheapest you'll find anywhere. It's family owned, so you get a better experience than shopping at Costco, where they are always pimping their private label wines. If you ask one of the employees to offer suggestions, and you give them a price range, they will have several options. This isn't one of those massive places with a huge selection of wines. if you are looking for a specific botique wine, or if you just have to have the '02 Insignia, this is not your place. They have a varied, but not huge, selection. They go by the motto "give the people what they want, and price it to move." Nice variety of French wines with a separate room dedicated to Bordeaux, Rhone, et al. Once again, amazing prices on the French wines. We don't drink much liquor, so I can't vouch for their prices on spirits. I would give Topline 4.5 stars if I could. The only thing that keeps me from giving them a 5 is the fact that they gave me a little bit of a hard time for returning a corked bottle one time, which was irritating, considering we have spent probably $25,000 at Topline over the past 10 years (yikes). Topline is a hard drinker's heaven. The combination of Costco-esque prices and hyper-knowledgable staff members is deadly for the frugal and functioning alcoholic. Make sure to consult with a guy roaming the floor before buying your next bottle of Grey Goose or Jack Daniels, because they'll point out far cheaper brands of equal or higher quality booze. Basically, the next time you're throwing a party for your degenerate friends from the local speakeasy, just walk into Topline and tell the guys behind the front counter exactly your intentions. I have been shopping at Topline for 15 years, and drive some 40 miles to get there. That is how good it is. This store has the best wine prices in all of LA, maybe in all of California. What is their secret? There are several. One is low-rent. They operate out of a small warehouse, not in a high-rent commercial district with foot traffic. The place is hard to find, and you need to want to come here to find it. No casual walk-ins. Decor is zilch. The cartons are just stacked up with the top one open to pull out your bottle, with a price scibbled on the box. Questions are answered, but there is no service (wine consultant) as such -- you are expected to know what you are doing when it comes to wine. The other secret is they buy winery closeouts, wines being dumped at less than list price. Wineries and wholesalers do not like to do that, and so sell to hole in the wall places unlikely to make much of an impact on the general public's perception of the value of that brand. Same idea as Trader Joe's, but they work with much smaller lots. I run through about 500 bottles of wine a year, and so come here every two months or so and take away 7-10 cases each time. With prices this good (and some experience in knowing what is in the bottles), it is worthwhile stocking up and filling your cellar. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this place. They have a spectacular collection and the prices are good...not great, but good. I actually had one of the BEST experiences with one of the employees who is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I was so appreciative I went back and bought liquor for an event I was producing knowing I could have bought it cheaper at Golden Farms down the street. But, then I met the owner who was, to put it bluntly, quite loud and obnoxious. I mentioned I was a mortgage broker and he proceeded to berate my industry in a very aggressive manner with lots and lots of expletives. It was, I must say a very strange experience. I've never written a review let alone a bad review but I've also never been treated so disrespectfully somewhere I just wanted to spend my money. I came in with my Sister, picked up what we wanted to purchase and headed to the cash register. A few younger male employees had asked us if we needed help when we initially walked in, they were perfectly nice and reasonable, however when we approached the register an older man who was obviously drunk appeared from the back room (with his glass) and started misogynistically and combatively approaching us. When we responded in an obviously confused way this only made him more combative and strange as he patronizingly commented on what we were wearing and what he imagined our ages to be. Finally I said we should go elsewhere and he said yeah you should. He continued behaving strangely as we were leaving so I asked, truly confused, "why are you being weird?" to which he yelled, "you're bring weird!" Overall a very strange interaction that never needed to happen, and its unfortunate because the store had a great selection and mostly nice employees. Great prices, cool people who will special-order for you. I've been coming here for years now. It's a warehouse-type space that's a little hard to find for first-timers. It's off the street (San Fernando) in a complex of several warehouses/store-fronts. Being a rather low-brow place means lower overhead, and this is reflected in the prices. (You can also help them out by charging your transaction as a debit instead of credit -- they always ask me, probably because I buy lots of stuff when I come in.) Wines... I've gotten some amazing bargain wines and sparklers. The French wine selection is good but not very extensive, but, hey, there are so many other great wine-producing countries, and at lower price-points. Naturally, California wines are very well represented, and there are some seriously killer bottles to be had; unfortunately, Topline's clientelle includes some serious wine enthusiasts who will buy 'em up before you come back for more if you're not quick enough. Topline is also definitely my destination for scotch (all spirits for that matter) -- good selection and great prices... $39.99 for Macallan 12, even less (I think $35.99?) for Highland Park 12. No, you CAN'T find a lower price ANYWHERE. Some hard-to-find artisan/craft spirits as well. Germain-Robin XO brandy... a good selection of craft distilled, small batch bourbons and ryes... the Irish are well represented with your ol' standbys like Jameson, Bushmills and Powers, but also some recent additions from Redbreast, Connemara (Peated Irish whiskey! Awesome!), Michael Collins, John Sullivan, and others... I'm not into tequila and rum, but there are lots of good bottles... highly recommended craft gins: Bluecoat and Anchor Distilling's Junipero... pretty unbeatable prices on vodkas (for something totally different and totally amazing, try the Napa Vodka, made entirely from a single vintage of Sauvignon Blanc)... a few good absinthes... pretty much everything you (and I) need and want! I was initially turned off by some napoleonic balding dude at the front of the store that belted out something at me when I walked in. But another person named Charlie was professional and to the point. Unfortunately for me the three wines that were selected for me were nothing to write home about, one of the bottles had just begun to turn, the others were so so at best. I cannot express how wonderful my experience was today. I went to Topline on the recommendation of a friend who told me the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. He wasn't kidding! I wish I had gotten the name of the employee who greeted me upon my entering the store. I explained my dilemma, I had a donor event, a small budget and a need to impress a discerning crowd. He walked me around the store, picking out wines and making recommendations. I was thrilled with the selection and the prices. I just discovered this place while looking for a liquor store that carries the hard-to-find Cherry Heering (I had decided to make the fabulous Blood & Sand cocktail for a party). I called Topline to see if they had it, got a quick answer (yes!), and then when I arrived, they immediately directed me to the bottle on the shelf. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to look around much. But I had heard Topline had discount rates, so I checked for Ciroc Vodka (which is not always easy to find) and it was $12 less than at Gelson's. I am definitely coming back when I have more time. The wine I bought at Topline recently was almost undrinkable, all recommended by staff. The space is not conditioned properly, so they can't keep the wine fresh, maybe that's the problem. It's so disappointing, I like the bare bones operation and find the staff nice, but the wine rarely lives up to their pitch. read more

I love this place, and love these guys. Each and every single time I have walked in here I get the service I need. The owners are "hands on", and they truly have a gift for knowing what I am looking for, weather it be a gift ...or for myself. I have had 100 dollar bottles filled with deliciousness. And ,11 dollar bottles that drink like a 50 dollar bottle. It's the best kept secret!!! I would truly travel even if I didn't live in Glendale. They have great prices!!! Love em! So adorable! I couldn't find where they are located, so I called and the older guy who I think is the owner literally stayed on the phone with me until I got where I'm supposed to go. The store is hidden in this driveway full of storages. Avoid San Fernando Rd. Take Pacific Ave, Riverdale and last driveway before you hit San Fernando. Everyone was so helpful. I was looking to get a reasonably good wine for my boss as a Christmas gift and had a few ideas. My choices were mostly around 100 or 120. The owner suggested something cheaper which he said was very popular. I trusted him. Let's hope my boss would like it. As he said, he saved me $70! Just ask for help. This place can be hard to find, if you've never been here. My favorite place to buy wine in LA, great selection of Bordeaux & other French wines, California cabs, Italian. They also have a great selection of Scotch, Bourbon, Tequila. The prices are lower than any place I know of in the area. The staff is helpful, if one of them can't answer your question they will get a co-worker that knows. Always good recommendations on Bordeaux. This store really is a treasure. The selection will not blow your mind but whatever they have is priced to move very quickly. One can feel very safe that the wines are not sitting around. The staff is very helpful. Some have commented that the owner can be a bit rough...true but they know what they're talking about and aren't unfriendly. I'd prefer honesty delivered a bit rough to flowery BS any day of the week...especially on a purchase such as wine. If you're new to wine, this is a low risk place to experiment since the prices are absolutely fantastic. Lots of good half bottles too. read more

I almost don't even want to write a review for fear that too many people will find out about this little gem of a liquor store. I am a big scotch and bourbon guy and always find it difficult to find a good selection at a price that won't put one into poverty. However, after some diligent searching, I was able to find such a place at Topline! Kevin is knowledgeable when it comes to scotch and he has helped me track down some great Yamazakis over the past year as well as other not so commonly found scotches (this isn't your local Bevmo). They also have a great selection of wine at very solid prices.
