They will not do a consultation and my hair on the same day, for some reason and the front desk person declined to provide any reasoning, just the "we're just not allowed to." Found this salon through Yelp & liked the photos. Called salon & booked an appointment few days in advance. I got lucky & booked with Ty. Ty is an experienced hair stylist. He told me he was a Redken educator that taught in Australia & has worked in a few different states. Ty lighten my hair, layered/textured & trim the ends. I'm very happy with my salon experience-- I have not changed salons in 10 years (I'm from the Bay Area). I'm always worried when I get a haircut, but Ty gave me an excellent haircut & experience. Besides being a great hair stylist, he has an interesting story. I left feeling inspired about life & being in a new state. I would definitely come back to this salon. read more

I will NOT suggest this hair salon at all !! Im new in town and trying to find a salon, and while is very pretty, I have to say that only the guy that works there seems to be a good hair dresser. First I did not even feel welcome as a first time customer, was not even offered water, or was told we hope to have you back or how did you like your service today when leaving :( Then they made a huge deal about the length of my hair as if they only work with short hair customers, I had to ask for a second wash because I was given only one shampoo and my hair was clearly not clean properly, they also made a huge deal about my hair getting tangled. All around worst experience in a hair salon and to top it off I was charged for a wash and dry what I have paid for a full set of highlights almost. read more

I had a lovely experience with Ty at Tops Hair Salon last week! Ty has been doing my hair for a few years and he killed it once again! A few years ago, someone ruined my beautiful Balayage highlights and Ty totally saved me. I have been going to him ever since and I will not stray because he is the best! Ty is absolutely incredible at everything he does! He does a great job at listening to his clients and truly understanding what they want. We communicate so well together- I will give him ideas and show pictures of what I want, and he uses his knowledge of hair and color treatment to deliver exactly what I ask for, every time. I had a consult with Nicole and was quoted for a hair coloring with highlites, trim, scalp exfoliation and deep conditioning at $300. I came back a few days later for the appointment, and was assigned to Ritchie - I had to re confirm the entire consultation requests with a new stylist. I was adamant that I did NOT want any "trendy" colors, but to MATCH THE EXISTING GOLDEN RED - I just wanted to tone out the gray. Stylist ONLY did one color, no highlites, and no trim, no scalp treatment. Color I selected was golden auburn with highlites to match existing color, and a photo was brought in and set on the counter so stylist could see exact desired result, as well as to match my existing color in person. Stylist turned me away from the mirror and instead of what i wanted, he applied black cherry PERMANENT hair coloring! I got an immediate consult with a master colorist from another salon who advised that this application was permanent hair coloring - unchangeable and un fixable without severe damage to my hair. I was advised that the only way to fully remove without harsh stripping is to grow out for 5 years as I have extra long hair. I was advised that my hair could sustain permanent damage, and possibly fall out with full stripping due to the 3 level process. I WOULD HAVE NEVER ALLOWED permanent hair coloring - but Ritchie did NOT tell me that it was! It applied clear and became darker and darker as it developed. I told stylist it was TOO dark several times, and he said that's normal, but it would be desired color once processed. NOT TRUE!! This left me with flat black hair with a purple hue. Stylist took over an hour to blow dry and "bake" the color into every strand. Overnite, it turned a flat black and i was horrified when I woke up. Stylist chose that my red golden hair would be black and purple permanently unbeknownst to me. He did NO other services as quoted, and he charged me $256.00. He advised that he would charge at least another $100 just for any highlites I made an extra appointment for - and even more cost for the scalp exfoliation, trim, or deep conditioning I was quoted for originally. It will cost me $1000 and 3 more appts with a specialist from another salon to fix this. Topps Stylist would NOT call me back for 24+ hours, in spite of several calls to try to resolve this. I had no choice but to physically go to the salon. The owner/ manager disputed there was anything wrong and would not refund. She refused to discuss any defective product or application irresponsibility. Again, she said that the sylist - who was scheduled to be there that day, did not show up. It is my feeling that he was probably there but avoiding me because he did exactly what I* told him NOT to do. I was advised that 3 appointments had to be made with color specialist at another salon to strip defective color, with full chemical service, repair damaged hair, trim, deep condition, apply correct color, highlight and low light with full double foils. My hair has been severely damaged and am now left with trying to repair - or cut it all off. I've been growing it out for 5 years, and I may have to lose it all because now it's ruined. Charges have been disputed on my credit card and Salon is refusing to cooperate. This has been ongoing for almost 6 weeks. I have received legal counsel - and if no resolution asap, I will definitely be filing a lawsuit. See photos and captions below. DO NOT TRUST THIS SALON!!! read more

She contacted me 2 weeks before my appointment to advise me since her top stylist is cutting her hours back that the price of my treatment will have to reflect $100 an hour raising the price of my treatment from $290 to $500+. Then the owner went on to say that I only come in their salon like once or twice a year like that justified her rudeness towards me after coming to her salon for the past 5 years. After 3 hours & 20 minutes later, I received a cut and color I did not want but had to pay over $150 for. Not only was my stylist overbooked with clients, but distracted with directing the local school traffic nearby. I was a loyal customer with the salon for over 15 years, always tipped well, but after the 3 hour debacle, I was let down and have not returned. Nor do I ever plan to. Word of advice, the owners are more interested in selling their products then servicing their customers. Moreover, they insist on having their stylists direct traffic rather than provide the right salon service. Ridiculous. read more

Great service, great price, great people. Every time I go to Tops hair salon I feel completely satisfy. They always take care of me and get my hair cut just right. A couple of weeks ago, I went there to get the Brazilian blowout, and I could not be more happy that I did it. My hair looks so healthy and it so easy to style it. Jade was so nice. It is a pleasure from the moment I walk in, always with happy hellos. I usually have sort of an idea of what I want when I come in but whether it is Richie or Brooke who is working on my hair, they always help to bring it all together.
