I have never had a bad experience here. The love and compassion they show towards my dogs and us humans is above and beyond. I have never had a bad experience when bringing my pets here. They are thorough when examining and diagnosing my dogs. Two of my dogs have had diagnosis that require surgery. Dr. Amy always sends me a detailed summary of the visit along with articles explaining the condition. The staff is amazing. Professional, courteous, and extremely compassionate. They care about your pets is 0% I would not recommend any of my friends or family go here and if they do pull out your pet now and go somewhere else. Horrible. They gave me a rx that I requested but was signed by the former vet they fired (she was the only good vet there). I sent the rx to Chewy and they refused it saying that vet no longer worked there. Chewy said they just needed his current vet to call them to confirm the rx or fax a new one. She refused and said we had to come in personally to get the new rx (wanted us to buy it there $$$$$$). They didn't care if my dog recieved his proper medication, just wanted the money. Then my dog needed to have bloodwork done and is a gentle giant, not a mean bone in his body, and she said he would have to come back and wanted me to give him a total of 18 pills, yes 18. to basically knock him out. I refused to give him all 18 and only gave him what his former vet there always prescribed, which was 4 Trazadone at night and 4 that morning. When we took him to his appt. they refused to give him the shot he needed or even try to get his blood because we didn't give him all 18 pills! They expect you to pay 18.00 extra per visit supposedly toward the vet techs education. If we are all paying that much toward their education then maybe they need to go back to school to learn how to quickly and efficiently draw blood from a big ole teddy bear dog that wouldn't hurt a flea. So, I drugged my dog for nothing and now he is home dry heaving coming down off the Trazadone I gave him! The receptionist needs to learn how to smile and greet patients as well. read more

I had my 2 chihuahuas' nails trimmed today. This was not a wellness check, only a nail trim. I would do it myself, but at 74, my eyes are not so good, and I am afraid to hurt them. The trim was excellent! HOWEVER, I was charged $70. Yes, that is SEVENTY DOLLARS to trim my little chihuahuas' nails. I find that a little extravagant. I will continue to use them as my vets HOWEVER, I will never again go there for a nail trim, the cost is too high. here is my proof. I brought my two rats Alice and Clover here. I've had pet rats for decades, and this, hands down, has been the BEST experience at a vet's office ever. the doctor who took care of them was incredibly knowledgeable, honest, caring, and you can tell he's super passionate about animals. the staff was so kind, and went out of their way for me and my girls. I drove 2 hours one way just to give them their treatments, and I would do it all over again because they were SO GOOD with my pets. highly recommend!! read more

So happy to have found this vet! The staff is professional and welcoming. I have been bringing my dogs here for years and now that they have their new facility there are even more options for dog care. My dog Gina is usually timid into the vet but they know to give her towel time and that perks her right up. My pets and I are thrilled to have found Dr. Amy (and we loooove Katie, her tech asst, too). I left another local vet practice when my gut said that it wasn't right. At the other place, I felt rushed and like just another paying client. The staff would abruptly slam doors behind them, scaring my cat throughout every visit.... but that's another Yelp review. : ) When I checked out Dr. Amy's practice, she and her two staff members were friendly, warm, and just plain happy to answer my questions. Once I brought my cat in, the contrast was marked: the exam rooms are welcoming and comfortable; Dr. Amy and Katie responded with care to my cat's initial fear; and Dr. Amy even wiped her coat with Feliway to help my cat feel calm. (It worked. AMA-zing. She's a total Cat Whisperer.) There was no clock-watching or cash-register-ringing -- just excellent, caring, professional care. At one point, Dr. Amy gave me a choice between 2 treatment options, explaining the pros and cons of each. I felt trusted, as though we were a team. At one point I confessed to feeling guilty that I hadn't brought my cat in soon enough (he'd had his rash for a few weeks). Dr. Amy said, "I don't judge -- I just educate." She took the time to explain his issue, and answered all of my questions. (Not to belabor the point, but at the vet practice I left, the tech once criticized me openly for something that was not my fault.) Thank you, Dr. Amy, for being so awesome! I highly recommend Topsham Veterinary Wellness Center. Dr. Amy Ruksznis and her staff are superb. They are extremely educated in current treatment options, and they actually listen to their clients' concerns and take all the time needed to answer questions. They work with you, not against you, in the care of your pet. Dr. Ruksznis obviously loves what she does, and I have total confidence in her guidance toward the correct care of my doxiepoo, Little Bear. My only complaint is that I did not find her and her practice sooner. The lives of my two former poodles would have so much benefited from her knowledge and care, instead of having been tossed aside with disinterest by other vet practices in the area. I won't go into detail, or name names, but my 17-and-a-half -year-old suffering poodle, Rachel, deserved a lot more than the dismissal she got from a local vet. The same with my 14-year-old blind and deaf poodle who entered a near-comatose state after I administered the liquid Gabapentin prescribed by another local vet. That was a difficult night, and little Oliver was put down the next day. In Dr. Ruksznis's hands, I have no doubt that both would have fared better. To her, your pet has a name and a personality, rather than being just another animal. read more

I cannot say enough about Dr. Amy Ruksznis and her incredible guidance, support and comfort as we made the difficult decision to put our 13+ year old dog down. She spent so much time and really processed our decision with us-just so respectful of our time to say goodbye to our beloved Ella. I highly recommend this practice. read more

Our dogs have been patients here since they first began. Unfortunately, the practice has consistently been slipping. The quality of care has disintegrated and it is very sad. Many doctors have left the practice over the years and there always seems to be new technicians. Staff are consistently late for appointments and we began to feel like we weren't a priority. We brought our elderly dog in several times over the past 6 months with varying concerns. When we asked for resources for what we knew would most likely be inevitable staff was not able to give us any information. When the time came and our 14 year old dog had a stroke and couldn't move, we called (it was a Wednesday)and were told that we couldn't be seen until the following Monday!! You can only imagine how heartbroken and upset we were by what was occurring with our dog and to then have zero support from the vet we have been seeing for the past 5 years was just incredibly surreal. It is unfortunate to say that I would not recommend this practice and if you are looking for timely appointments and staff that are supportive and knowledgeable, look elsewhere. read more

The best vet by far! My dog used to get allergy injections, Dr. Amy suggested using goat's milk in her food as an alternative to the expensive and uncomfortable injections. We have been using it for 3 years and no more allergy shots! Whenever my dog is in, they call and check on her progress. I know she is not only cared for here, but loved. Recently we brought our daughter's pug to the Topsham Veterinary Wellness Center due to frequent urination with slight traces of blood. The Vet diagnosed a UTI and provided an antibiotic stating the problem should begin to clear in 48 hours. 48 hours later, our pug was urinating massive amounts of red blood. We immediately took her to the Androscoggin Animal Hospital where they performed an ultrasound showing TWO kidney stones larger than walnuts and insisted she have an emergency surgery the next morning. We were assured by the Androscoggin Vet that our pug would have died soon had the surgery not been performed. My Wife called the Wellness Center to update them on our pugs status, their SEVERE misdiagnosis and asked for a refund due to their INCOMPETENCE, as you might expect, the staff and OWNER showed no remorse or willingness to refund us. In fact, they became combative and openly HOSTILE towards my Wife. While the Androscoggin Animal Hospital care is costlier than the Wellness Center, I assure you that the staff, facility and quality of care are immensely superior. Chris McGuire, Topsham. read more
